Opis:
The challenge in vehicle and crew scheduling is to arrange a given set of bus trips into running boards while minimizing certain objectives and complying with a given set of constraints. This scheduling was solved several tens years ago manually by a dispatcher who used his skill, experience, knowledge of history, and intuition. This attitude worked quite well in small instances but could not be applied in larger ones. Development of computers brought opportunities to build computerized vehicle and crew optimization systems. This paper describes a computer system KASTOR developed for vehicle and crew optimization, which complies with the special requirements of Czech and Slovak bus providers, and is significantly different from those in some west European countries.

This paper describes the conception of an individual personal transport vehicle. The conception of the vehicle is based on a mechanical structure of a bike and on a pneumatic engine as equipment of power support. The research was done as an analysis of existing vehicles with main or supporting gas power systems. In the research the expectations of users, technical resources as well as known constructions were taken into account. At the beginning, the technical properties of known methods and modern vehicles available for individual personal transport of people were reviewed. Next, some vehicles which can meet economic, ecologic and environmental criteria were identified. Finally, the authors proposed usage of extremely small and light-weight vehicles. It appears that the smallest, lightest and most economic construction of vehicles should be modeled on the bike. For power convenience on uphill roads compressed air as a supporting power factor was proposed. It also implied the possibility to use supporting power system as main power engine. However, the economic storage and management of compressed gas required optimization system of gas usage. This optimization depends on pulse wide modulation of air valve flow and possibility of air compression. Air compression is possible by driving downhill or on fixed vehicle by human muscle power. Those circumstances warrant to name such power system a hybrid pneumatic propulsion.

In the article the author presents the analysis of persona! commuting vehicles produced nowadays. The analysis comprises their purposes, functionality, comfort and construction solution of the following elements: drive and sleering system, suspension and batteries. The evolution of a vehicle regarding the space necessary for its manoeuvres and parking is the essential parameter of the analysis. The concept of a city vehicle worked out at the Cracow University of Technology is presented in the further part of the article. The vehicle that has been constructed belongs to L6e category. In the article two concepts of such vehicle are presented - a vehicle for a single person and "a tandem " type of vehicle for two persons. The result of introductory tests of a function model worked out on the basis of a concept model is also presented. The function of the frame and its shape is to make possible for the front of vehicle to enter the back of the other one. Construction solution of this type also reduced the space necessary for parking. Two concepts of front suspension system - rotation axle and suspension with swivel axle were evaluated. Manoeuvrability and stability of rectilinear of rectilinear motion were taken into account. The results that were obtained make drawing conclusion referring to further development of such vehicle possible.

Aim: While transport systems play a crucial role in socio-economic development, its expansion has serious environmental impacts. Reducing rivalry in use by supporting public transport, cycling and walking, as well as exclusion of car users are popular instruments to support sustainable transport. While such policy (external stimuli) may lead to positive impact in the short run, a change in attitude of transport users may be necessary in order to long-term sustainable transport. This attitude change is related to Personal Social Responsibility (PSR), relying on the education of a conscious and responsible society and influencing individual transport choices of individuals. The purpose of the paper is to examine the impact of modifications of the levels of rivalry and excludability in the access to transport systems on the development of Personal Social Responsibility in terms of sustainable transport behaviour.   Design/ Research methods: Based on literature review, a survey was developed to provide an answer to the main research question: To what extent do changes in the urban transport system supporting sustainable transport have an impact on transport behaviour? The following elements of Personal Social Responsibility are considered: aware and voluntary transport choices, state-of-well-being resulting from choices, environmental and social impact, and being a good example to others   Conclusions/findings: The respondents observed numerous changes in the elements of the Wrocław transport system they use (Wrocław is a large city in the South-West of Poland), mainly related to the development of road infrastructure. The level of competition between individual transport users remained largely unchanged or slightly decreased, to the benefit of pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users. Only 26.21% of the respondents declared a change of the most frequently used means of transport, with half of them choosing to drive by car, and half - by public transport. These changes were not related to concerns about ecology, the local community or awareness of doing good for people and the environment. Therefore, it can be concluded that they resulted from external stimuli affecting private benefits not related to the development of the PSR. Originality/value: While international research in the field of the field of sustainable mobility focuses mostly on factors impacting sustainable transport choices and the effectivity of different instruments of sustainable transport policies affecting the factors considered most important in transport choices, this study shows that even when changes in the intensity of rivalry and excludability in transport systems for different users lead to required changes in transport behavior, this does not necessarily result in the development of PSR elements that would overall support the social transformation towards sustainable transport development.   JEL: Q01, R41, R48

It is difficult to organize urban transport in the city center. Existing buildings, narrow streets and working infrastructure make it difficult to use the oldfashion transport means such as trams or buses. The new idea consists in elevation of the transport in the very city above ground level (typical PRT systems cover rare areas like airport or fairgrounds). The study analyzes the hierarchical, layered system consisting of a ring light rail and PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) serving as commuter network. It is shown in the case of an exemplary city that the proposed solution is possible and reasonable. Ridership and vehicle mileage of the entire system are calculated for the light rail analytically, and in the case PRT by simulation.

The large US SATS (Small Aircraft Transportation System and EU supported EPATS (European Personal Air Transportation System [4, 5]) projects target to develop and introduce new transportation system based on the newly designed small and smart aircraft mostly personal used in completely redesigned and rebuilt airport and ATM systems. Introduction of such innovative system can be characterized by innovation diffusion process. The diffusion of innovation is the process by which an innovation is communicated through certain channels over time among the members of social system. The penetration of the new innovative system into society and economy can be characterized by “S” curve. In case of earlier time of diffusion, when only the relatively small number of users, called innovators and early adaptors are applying the new system, the evaluation of efficiency of the new system plays a determining role. Generally, it seems the efficiency can be defined and applied for evaluation of the new technology easy. However, the efficiency means different meaning for different group of people, like designers, operators, users, owners, stakeholders, or simple “neutrals”, namely for those who does not belong no one from the named groups. So, the new system must be evaluated with use of different terms, different methods, as technical or energetic efficiency, benefits, etc. This short paper tries to summarize the different definitions of efficiency and their use for evaluating the EPATS and their impacts on the EPATS development process.

Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is a promising form of urban transport. Its operation relies on the use of small unmanned vehicles which carry the passengers between the stations within a dedicated network. Various aspects of the PRT network performance are frequently evaluated using the discrete-event simulation. The paper supports the need of establishing some reference models for the simulation of PRT networks, targeted mainly at the needs of the research on the network management algorithms. Three models of such PRT network models are proposed and discussed. The presented models can play the role of benchmarks which would be very useful for comparative evaluation of heuristic control algorithms, developed by different research groups.
Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) jest obiecującą formą transportu miejskiego. Jego działanie opiera się na wykorzystaniu małych bezzałogowych pojazdów, które przewożą pasażerów między stacjami w sieci dedykowanej. Różne aspekty wydajności sieci PRT są często oceniane przy użyciu symulacji dyskretnego zdarzenia. Artykuł popiera potrzebę ustanowienia kilku modeli referencyjnych do symulacji sieci PRT, ukierunkowanych głównie na potrzeby badań nad algorytmami zarządzania siecią. Proponowane i omawiane są trzy modele takich sieci PRT. Prezentowane modele mogą pełnić rolę wzorców, które byłyby bardzo przydatne do oceny porównawczej heurystycznych algorytmów sterowania, opracowanych przez różne grupy badawcze.

The subject of this article concerns safety in transport in the context of broadly understood contemporary challenges. The study characterizes the impact of transport on individual types of safety. Ecological, personal and economic security were selected for the analysis. The purpose of this article is to attempt to synthetically address the issue of safety in transport while taking into account several selected areas of this safety. Selected types of security will be considered: ecological, personal and economic. It is the transport that presents new challenges that will affect the level of safety in the future. Today, the most important thing for the environment is to secure all parts of the infrastructure, both point and line, so that the movement process takes place without any irregularities that could result in damage to health and even loss of human life.
Tematyka niniejszego artykułu dotyczy bezpieczeństwa w transporcie w kontekście szeroko ujmowanych wyzwań współczesności. W opracowaniu dokonano charakterystyki wpływu transportu na poszczególne rodzaje bezpieczeństwa. Do analizy wybrano bezpieczeństwo ekologiczne, personalne i ekonomiczne.  Celem tego artykułu jest próba syntetycznego rozwiązania problemu bezpieczeństwa w transporcie, z uwzględnieniem kilku wybranych obszarów tego bezpieczeństwa. Uwzględnione zostaną wybrane rodzaje bezpieczeństwa: ekologiczne, osobiste i ekonomiczne. To właśnie przed transportem stawiane są nowe wyzwania, które będą w przyszłości wpływać na poziom bezpieczeństwa. Dziś najważniejsze dla otoczenia jest zabezpieczenie wszelkich części infrastruktury zarówno punktowej jak i liniowej tak, aby proces przemieszczania odbywał się bez jakichkolwiek nieprawidłowości które w konsekwencji mogły by doprowadzić do uszczerbku zdrowia a nawet utraty życia ludzkiego.

There are various definitions of efficiency of transport and different methods of measurement. This makes it difficult to measure and carry out benchmarking assessment of different modes. This paper presents proposals for measuring the efficiency of transport systems, taking as criteria: travel time, energy consumption, material use, impact on environment, affordability and accessibility. Based on these criteria, a benchmarking analysis of road and air transport was carried out. A new proposal for general definition of efficiency of transport is presented.

W artykule przeprowadzono analizę zbioru relacji, które są tworzone w procesie obowiązkowego ubezpieczenia osobistego pasażerów od następstw nieszczęśliwych wypadków w sektorze transportu kolejowego. Z przeprowadzonych analiz wynika, że w zakresie ubezpieczenia pasażerów od następstw nieszczęśliwych wypadków w transporcie kolejowym zidentyfikowano określone cechy i wady, jak również wskazano na kierunki doskonalenia opisanego systemu ubezpieczeń. W trakcie przeprowadzonych analiz, uwzględniono kwestię równowagi interesów wszystkich podmiotów ubezpieczają- cych się w transporcie kolejowym.
The article explores the totality of relations that are formed in the process of compulsory personal insurance of passengers against accidents in the railway transport. In the process of analyzing the mechanism of insurance protection of passengers in railway transport, its features and shortcomings are revealed, and directions for its improvement are determined. The balance of interests of all subjects of railway-insurance relations has been taking into account.
В статье исследуется совокупность отношений, которые формуются в процессе обязательного личного страхования пассажиров от несчастных случаев на железнодорожном транспорте. В процессе анализа механизма страховой защиты пассажиров на железнодорожном транспорте выявлены его особенности и недостатки, а также определены направления его совершенствования с учетом баланса интересов всех субъектов железнодорожно-страховых отношений.

This paper briefly reviews the transport networks and socio-economic indicators affecting the development of transport and shows the share of different modes of transport in passenger transport volume in Europe. Based on statistics and studies of mobility, carried out earlier in the framework of European programs, an assessment of accessibility and performance of main transport systems was made. Pointed out the need to fill the existing gap transport occurring in the range of 300 km to about 1200 km.
