    Symphony of the Ursus Factory
    Opis:
    The text is a proposal to analyse the film Symphony of the Ursus Factory from three different perspectives: performance studies, qualitative research, and participatory art. Departing from a quote by the director, Jaśmina Wójcik, where she reminisces about her first encounters with the former employees of the factory, the author focuses on the issue of embodied knowledge. Through discussing different moments of the film and its visual and audial strategy, the author also shows how theatricality mixes with documentality in the production. The author also refers to different events and activities from the nine-year-long Factory Ursus Project to show it as a long-term process grounded on different modes of participation and collaboration, without which the movie could not have been possible and which legitimates its artistic form.

    The inclusion of media technology in theatrical plays (Saltz, 2013) follows a contingent fascination and entanglement between human actors, technology and automata (Reilly, 2011) on stage. The contemporary play Spillikin – A Love Story places a new digital ‘actor’ in this debate: the humanoid robot as a socially interactive agent (Breazeal, 2002; Fong, Nourbakhsh, & Dautenhahn, 2003) and caring companion. This paper discusses the exhibition of sociability through the robot’s humanlike gestures and its ability to decipher human gestures on stage. The aim is to point to the ethical consequences for the audience concerning the robot’s implied autonomy to interact socially.

    This paper will analyse the process of the creation of an original script and a short performance focused on the relationship between the Catholic figure of Francis of Assisi and the body, as framed by queer theory. Over the centuries and in various cultures, the Catholic institution has been a body of oppression, particularly to minorities. On the other hand, the institution has produced a significant number of figures who were resilient and who have defied the system, both internally and externally. Frequently, these figures are depicted in a tame manner, so that they are seen in a more conservative and orthodox light. Francis of Assisi is one of these figures. Particularly in and after the administration of the Order under Bonaventure, Franciscanism developed in a way that the image of the Poverello was manipulated and softened down. By returning to the pre-Bonaventure documents on the saint, and reflecting on them through queer theory, this project attempts to show the defiant traits of this saint, particularly in the way how he perceived and related with the body and physicality, including deformation. This presents a liberated approach to the body and queers the way how the body has been oppressed both by the Institution, which suppresses the body, as well as by society, that celebrates only select body forms. The second part of the paper ‘translates’ into practice the theoretical framework through a case-study of a theatrical project.

    Monika Świerkosz reviews the performance Rewolucja, której nie było (A Revolution That Was Not There), produced by Teatr 21 and Biennale Warszawa, directed by Justyna Sobczyk, and first performed on 7 Dec 2018 at Teatr Soho. The author points out that even though the performance was inspired by the 40-day-long protest staged by parents of persons with disabilities, it is more than a journalistic commentary on these events. Świerkosz describes the performance, emphasizing its political aspect. The author mentions specific dramaturgical, aesthetic and formal strategies which make A Revolution That Was Not There a space for the voices of Teatr 21’s actors. Finally, the author writes that the performance is a clear signal that the revolution has not ended, that it is still on, even though it’s far from the corridors of the Polish parliament.

    In the work presented in this paper, the effects on aerodynamic lift caused by the flow of exhaust gases when intentionally oriented on the rear wing element of a generic Formula One car have been investigated. A quantitative analysis on the effect of a cold jet of nitrogen gas on a wing element NACA 0012 has been conducted using a medium-speed wind tunnel facility. The Reynolds number for the jet flow, based on the jet diameter and exit velocity was 13000. The Reynolds number base on the bodywork length and the free stream flow velocity was around 54000. The airfoil was mounted onto a 3-component strain-gauge force balance, from which readings for lift and drag forces were measured. This arrangement was supported on sliding system in order to allow measurements at airfoil heights of 32, 45, 60 and 90mm with respect to the floor of the wind tunnel. The angle of attack of the wing element was also varied within the range of -20 to +20 degrees. A qualitative comparison between the experimental results and the computational simulation was performed through the application of oil flow technique for a representative number of cases. The agreement was found to be satisfactory as the primary flow features were predicted to a rea-sonable degree of accuracy in the computational study. The potential benefits for engine cooling derived from placing the exhaust pipe inside a duct of larger diameter were also investigated in the computational part. A parametric investigation concerning the relative diameter of the exhaust pipe and the outer duct, as well as the overlap between them will be discussed. The commercial CFD package FLUENT, in its 6.1 version, was employed for the numerical simulation part of the present work.
    W pracy zaprezentowanej w niniejszej publikacji badano wpływ na siłę nośną wywołany przez przepływ gazów spalinowych ukierunkowanych celowo na element tylnego skrzydła bazowego samochodu Formuły 1. W tunelu aerodynamicznym średniej prędkości przeprowadzono analizę ilościową wypływu strumienia zimnego azotu na element skrzydła o profilu NACA 0012. Liczba Reynoldsa dla wypływu z dyszy, na podstawie średnicy dyszy i prędkości wylotowej wynosiła 13000. Liczba Reynoldsa obliczona na podstawie dlugości nadwozia i prędkości przepływu strumienia swobodnego wynosiła okolo 54000. Skrzydło zamontowano na 3-składowej wadze tensometrycznej, z której odczytywano zmierzone wartości siły nośnej i siły oporu. Układ ten był zamocowany na systemie przesuwnym w celu umożliwienia pomiarów przy wysokościach płata nad podłogą tunelu aerodynamicznego wynoszących: 32, 45, 60 i 90 mm. Kąt natarcia elementu skrzydła był także zmieniany w zakresie od -20 do +20 stopni. Jakościowe porównania wyników badań i symulacji komputerowej przeprowadzono przy zastosowaniu techniki wizualizacji przepływem oleju dla reprezentatywnej liczby przypadków. Zgodność została uznana za wystarczającą, jako że podstawowe cechy przepływu były przewidziane z wystarczającą dokładnościa w badaniach obliczeniowych. W części obliczeniowej byly również badane potencjalne korzyści dla chłodzenia silnika pochodzące z wyprowadzenia rury wydechowej do wnętrza kanału o większej średnicy. Zostały również omówione analizy parametryczne dotyczące stosunku średnic rury wydechowej i kanału zewnętrznego, jak również ich wzajemne zachodzenie na siebie. Komercyjny pakiet oprogramowania CFD FLUENT, w wersji 6.1, został wykorzystany w części niniejszej pracy dotyczqcej symulacji numerycznej przepływów.

    Opis:
    Investigations into the nature of the activity of gaming have been made difficult by virtue of the plurality of possible forms this activity may take. In this paper, I address this problem by examining (digital) gaming under the heading of practice theory, in an attempt to shed more light on the practical aspects of ludic literacy. Building on the theoretical and conceptual frameworks of Pierre Bourdieu, I present a general model of digital gaming as a form of situated human practice, followed by details of a case study, conducted in order to test and adjust the initial version of the model. Though further research with a greater population of players is needed in order to expand the scope of the model, the findings of the study lend credence to its validity as a conceptual framework for delineating and framing different practices generated by digital game artefacts.
    Badania nad naturą grania są utrudnione przez różnorodność możliwych form, jakie może przybierać ta działalność. W artykule tym podejmuję ten problem, analizując gry (cyfrowe) pod szyldem teorii praktyki i próbuję rzucić więcej światła na praktyczne aspekty kompetencji ludycznych. Opierając się na założeniach teoretycznych i koncepcyjnych Pierre’a Bourdieu, przedstawiam ogólny model gier cyfrowych jako formy usytuowanej praktyki człowieka, a następnie prezentuję studium przypadku, zaprojektowane w celu przetestowania i skorygowania wstępnej wersji modelu. Choć poszerzenie zakresu stosowalności modelu wymaga badań na większej populacji graczy, wyniki naszego badania potwierdzają poprawność naszego modelu rozumianego jako teoria wyznaczania i osadzania praktyk wyrosłych z artefaktów ludycznych.
