Opis:
In this paper, optimization works on the technology of passivation and optical coatings of laser diode facets are described. The main goal is to increase the optical power at which the catastrophic optical mirror damage occurs. The coatings and passivation processes have been done in an ion source-aided electron-beam evaporator. The essence of passivation was to remove native oxides and produce a native thin nitride layer with simultaneous saturation of the dangling atomic bonds. The procedure has been realized with the help of nitrogen or forming gas (N2 + H2) beam. As a result, we present sets of technological parameters allowing to increase the catastrophic optical mirror damage threshold of diode lasers.

Opis:
Titania dioxide (TiO₂) layers were synthesized via the acid-catalysed sol-gel route using titania (IV) ethoxide, and then annealed at temperatures varying in the range of 150-700 °C. The research concerned the effect of annealing temperature on the structure of TiO₂ layers, their surface morphology, and their optical properties. Further, X-ray diffractometry, and Raman spectroscopy were used to determine the structure of TiO₂ layers. Scanning electron and atomic force microscopy were used to study the surface morphology of TiO₂ layers. Transmittance, reflectance, absorption edge, and optical homogeneity were investigated by UV-VIS spectrophotometry, while the refractive index and thicknesses of TiO₂ layers were measured using a monochromatic ellipsometer. Chromatic dispersion characteristics of the complex refractive index were determined using spectroscopic ellipsometry. Structural studies have shown that the TiO₂ layers annealed at temperatures up to 300 °C are amorphous, while those annealed at temperatures exceeding 300 °C are polycrystalline containing only anatase nanocrystals with sizes increasing from 6 to 20 nm with the increase of the annealing temperature. Investigations on the surface morphology of TiO₂ layers have shown that the surface roughness increases with the increase in annealing temperature. Spectrophotometric investigations have shown that TiO₂ layers are homogeneous and the width of the indirect optical band gap varies with annealing temperature from 3.53 eV to 3.73 eV.

Opis:
The article concerns the evaluation of the possibility of using the optical profilometry method in the analysis of the destruction process of acrylic coatings exposed at a climate station in an industrial-urban atmosphere. It was found that the observed changes do not allow to clearly assess the durability of the tested coatings. It seems that the method used may play a supporting role in assessing the quality of the coatings because the surface maps show the number and size of pores in the coating. Therefore, this method can be used, for example, to help determine the optimal parameters of the coating process (e.g. spray pressure).

Opis:
The article describes the results of a research on the surface morphology and optical properties of Al₂O₃, ZnO, and TiO₂ thin films deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) for applications in silicon solar cells. The surface topography and elemental composition were characterised using a scanning electron microscope, and thickness was determined using an optical reflectometer. The samples were structurally examined using a Raman spectrometer. The structural variant was identified: for Al₂O₃ it is sapphire, for TiO₂ it is anatase, and for ZnO it is wurtzite. Possibilities of minimising light reflection using single and double thin film systems below 5% were presented. For the first time, the effectiveness of these thin films on the current-voltage characteristics and electrical parameters of manufactured silicon solar cells was examined and compared. The solar cell with the highest efficiency of converting solar radiation into electricity was obtained for Al₂O₃/TiO₂ and the efficiency of such a photovoltaic device was 18.74%.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to produce composite thin films with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) matrix with nanoparticles of silicon dioxide (SiO2 ) as the reinforcing phase (5 and 10%) using spin coating method and to investigate the influence of mass concentration of silica particles and process parameters on the morphology and optical properties of the obtained PVP/SiO2 nanocomposite coatings. The composite layer topography examination, made using atomic force microscope (AFM), showed the increase of roughness due to the increase of silica mass concentration in thin films. UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis showed that with the increase of SiO2 nanoparticles in polymer matrix and use of higher rotation speed, the absorbance level decrease. Besides, composite layers with 10% mass concentration relative to polymer concentration were characterized by wider energy band gap, so it can be concluded that obtained nanocomposite thin films can be used as protective layers against UV radiation, with zero absorption in the range of visible light wavelengths.

Opis:
One of the problems in identification of carbon nanocoatings is measurement of their thickness. There are a lot of methods which allow for determination of thickness i.e. SEM analysis of cross section of sample with manufactured coating, nanoindentation analysis with using DSP (Digital Signal Processing) method, roughness analysis with using different kind of profilers. In this paper the technology of manufacturing of carbon coatings on AZ31 magnesium light alloy has been depicted and optical profiler has been used for thickness evaluation of these coating. Obtained results allowed for precise estimation of manufactured carbon coatings thickness. In this way it was also possible to compare obtained thickness results with thickness evaluated by other methods.

Opis:
In this study, ceramic TiO2 thin films were prepared on glass substrates using sol-gel and spin-coating methods from the TNBT/ AcOH/ EtOH/ H2O solution. The obtained coatings were subjected to drying at room temperature and were then calcined in the air at different temperatures in a range of 400–600°C in order to obtain clean TiO2   layers. The surface morphology and chemical composition were characterized with the use of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDX). Research has shown the presence of elements in the TiO2   and the influence of temperatures on layer thickness. Analysis of optical properties and energy gap width of the prepared coatings was determined by means of spectra analysis of absorbance as a function of radiation energy obtained with the use of the UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The obtained spectra of the layers are characterized by a shift of absorption lines towards the visible light wavelengths and the obtained values of band gaps decrease as the calcination temperature rises. The obtained and developed results of TiO2   thin films testify to the wide application possibilities of the layers in elements which use photocatalytic processes such as self-cleaning surfaces, solar cells, pollution removing membranes and optoelectronic components.
