Opis:
A number of international studies argue that there is a correlation between the number of traffic fatalities and the degree of public activity. The studies use the unemployment rate to support that argument. As unemployment grows miles travelled fall, a factor known to affect road safety. This relationship seems to be true for Poland, as well. The model presented in the paper is intended to prove it. It is a structural time-series local level model with the explanatory variable (the unemployment rate) and some interventions. Because of the dynamic nature of traffic safety developments it lends itself very well to modelling in that way.

Opis:
Aging has profound effects on facial biometrics as it causes change in shape and texture. However, aging remains an under-studied problem in comparison to facial variations due to pose, illumination and expression changes. A commonly adopted solution in the state-of-the-art is the virtual template synthesis for aging and de-aging transformations involving complex 3D modelling techniques. These methods are also prone to estimation errors in the synthesis. Another viable solution is to continuously adapt the template to the temporal variation (ageing) of the query data. Though efficacy of template update procedures has been proven for expression, lightning and pose variations, the use of template update for facial aging has not received much attention so far. Therefore, this paper first analyzes the performance of existing baseline facial representations, based on local features, under ageing effect then investigates the use of template update procedures for temporal variance due to the facial age progression process. Experimental results on FGNET and MORPH aging database using commercial VeriLook face recognition engine demonstrate that continuous template updating is an effective and simple way to adapt to variations due to the aging process.

Opis:
This paper presents a model for short-term time-horizon production and distribution planning of a manufacturing company located in the middle of a supply chain. The model focuses on an unbalanced market with broken supply chains. This reflects the state of the current post-COVID-19 economy, which is additionally struggling with even more uncertainty and disruptions due to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The manufacturer, operating on the post-pandemic and post-war market, on the one hand observes a soaring demand for its products, and on the other faces uncertainty regarding the availability of components (parts) used in the manufacturing process. The goal of the company is to maximise profits despite the uncertain availability of intermediate products. In the short term, the company cannot simply raise prices, as it is bound by long-term contracts with its business partners. The company also has to maintain a good relationship with its customers, i.e. businesses further in the supply chain, by proportionally dividing its insufficient production and trying to match production planning with the observed demand. The post-COVID-19 production-planning problem has been addressed with a robust mixed integer optimisation model along with a dedicated heuristic, which makes it possible to find approximate solutions in a large-scale real-world setting.

Opis:
This paper presents the modelling of the heat loads in the dry and wet cylinder sleeve in unsteady state. Next compared the results obtained temperature distribution on the individual surfaces of the dry and wet cylinder from the moment of starting the turbocharged Diesel engine to the moment when the distribution of the temperature changed in a small range. Modelling was conducted based on the boundary conditions III kind as a function of time, which describes the convective heat transfer coefficient and the temperature of the surrounding surfaces of cylinder sleeve, appointed on the basis of the bizonal model. The thesis used thefinite elements method (FEM). The calculations show that topparts of the cylinder sleeve near of the mount flange heat up thefastest however the temperature in the bottom parts below the 3rd ring in the piston is the lowest. Higher temperature of the dry cylinder sleeve in relation to the wet is caused by the fact that different convective heat transfer coefficients on the side of the liquid coolant were assumed. The highest difference of average temperature occurs in the initial phase of heating up of the dry and wet cylinder sleeve between 5 and 15 second. In the result of carried out calculations it was stated that the cylinder sleeve fastest heats up during first 20 second of the engine work then the temperature starts to stabilize and in 40 second it changes in a small range.

Opis:
This paper presents the modelling of the heat loads in the exhaust valve from and without regard of carbon deposit in initial phase of work of the turbocharged Diesel engine by using the two-zone combustion model, finite elements method (FES) and program Cosmos/M. In order to illustrate the problem the valve face is divided into two equal areas, then it was assumed that one of them is covered with a thin layer of carbon deposit. Modelling was conducted based on the boundary conditions III kind as a function of time, which describes the convective heat transfer coefficient and the temperature of the surrounding surfaces of valve. As a result of the calculations was compared obtained temperature distribution on the surfaces of the valve - with and without carbon deposit. The study also performed an analysis of the stress distribution that arises in the valve by the presence of the carbon deposit on the surface of the face valve. The analysis showed that the face valve heats up unevenly, more slowly on the side of the carbon deposit. Moreover small increase of the temperature causes the increase of the stress values. Maximum values of stresses do not appear in a valve face under a layer of carbon deposit but on the line distributing the surface covered with carbon deposit and without carbon deposit, near the valve face. These stresses cause the growth of microcracks in the area of the valve face, which finally give occasion to the defect of material, the damage of the valve and engine failure

Opis:
The article presents a computational model build with the use of artificial neural networks optimized by genetic algorithm. This model was used to research and prediction of the impact of chemical elements and heat treatment conditions on the mechanical properties of ferrite stainless steel. Optimization has allowed the development of artificial neural networks, which showed a better or comparable prediction result in comparison to un-optimized networks has reduced the number of input variables and has accelerated the calculation speed. The introduced computational model can be applied in industry to reduce the manufacturing costs of materials. It can also simplify material selection when an engineer must properly choose the chemical elements and adequate plastic and/or heat treatment of stainless steels with required mechanical properties.

Opis:
The appropriate emitter database is one of the most important elements in the present electronic intelligence (ELINT) system. This paper provides an overview of the relational modelling, which is used to construct the emitter database for current ELINT systems. The method described, delivers the entities' relational diagram that is independent from the manner of the data storage in further process of implementation. This approach ensures the integrity of the measured data. The process of final emitter identification is based on "the knowledge-based approach" which was implemented during the process of constructing the database.

Opis:
One of the most challenging research fields in which research community has taken a very active role is focused on trying to bring the features of wireless networks into line with the traditional wired solutions. Given the noisy and lossy nature of the wireless medium, it is more difficult to provide a comparable Quality of Service (QoS) and Reliability over wireless networks. This lack of reliability avoids the use of wireless solution in scenarios under harsh environment and mission-critical applications. In this paper we propose an inter-node collaborative schema with the aim of improving the achievable QoS level for multicast streaming, through the use of Network Coding and the algebra it is based on. We also present an implementation of the described algorithm on the OPNET discrete event simulation tool. Experimental results highlighting the performance achieved by the proposed algorithm and its improved efficiency as compared to other solutions are described.
