The paper presents a set of test procedures for performing an extended test of dual-core microcontroller performance. The procedures described enable the performance of the system to be determined with regard to memory organization, mutual influence of cores and ability to verify the impact of code optimization level. The experimental trials were performed using an LPC4357 microcontroller with onboard FLASH and SRAM memory. The results obtained showed a slight performance drop for the various microcontrollers operating simultaneously in typical conditions. However, with frequent references to a shared memory, the performance drop may reach as much as 80%.

MULTI-UTILITY VEHICLE is a vehicle which carries a folding bridge and multiple sensors. This vehicle is mainly used in war-field, it helps the soldiers to cross The un-even areas with the help of the bridge. It also helps other heavy vehicles to cross the disturbed path using its bridge. It is also equipped with multiple sensors like the fire detector, gas detector, light detector. This helps the soldiers to identify the different types of threats bearing poisonous gases, increase in temperature etc. from a longer distance. Those threats can be recognized by the soldiers with the help of buzzers equipped in the detector. As it is a remote vehicle which works on the wireless transmission of ZigBee, the light detector in the vehicle is used to automatically switch on the main lights when the visibility level starts decreasing due to sunlight. This project is already implemented in European countries during the First World War. It is an upcoming technology in our country. For solving the problem of the cooperation between multi-robots, a communication system based on the ZigBee network was designed. In the hardware of the robots, the ZigBee nodes are introduced. The multi-robots form a star network by the ZigBee nodes, and they keep communication with each other by the central node. The ZigBee network has many characteristics such as low cost, low power consume, strong anti-jamming ability and real-time performance etc, it adapts to the application of intelligence. Experiments showed that the communication between the robots is reliable. This scheme is a good way for robots to complete complex task and improve working efficiency.

Direct sensor-to-microcontroller is a simple approach for direct interface of passive modulating sensors to a microcontroller without any active components in between the sensor and the microcontroller and without an analog to digital converter. The metrological performances of such interface circuits are limited by certain microcontroller parameters which are predetermined by the manufacturing technology. These limitations can be improved by specific hardware-related techniques and can improve the accuracy, speed and resolution of the measurements. Such hardware solutions as well as proper selection of the electrical components are addressed in this paper. It has been shown that employment of only a few MOSFET transistors can reduce the maximal relative error of single point calibration more than fifteen times and can increase the measuring speed around 30 % in all calibration techniques in the measurement range of PT1000 resistive temperature sensors. Moreover, the effective number of resolution bits increases by more than 1.3 bits when using an external comparator.

The concept of electronic circuit breaker came into focus realizing that conventional circuit breakers such as MCBs take longer time to trip. Therefore, for sensitive loads it is very important to activate the tripping mechanism at the shortest possible time, preferably instantaneously. This project is demonstrates fast tripping mechanism as against the slow one like MCB. Electronic circuit breaker is based on the voltage drop across a series element proportional to the load current, typically a low value resistor. This voltage is sensed and rectified to DC which is and then compared with a preset voltage by a level comparator to generate an output that drives a relay through a MOSFET to trip the load. The unit is extremely fast and overcomes the drawback of the thermal type. It uses a microcontroller from 8051 family. The project was designed to shut down the power supply when it is overloaded. Conventional circuit breaker like MCB based is on thermal bimetal lever trip mechanism. It is very slow and the trip time is dependent upon the percentage of overload. This project senses the current passing through a series element and the corresponding voltage drop is compared against the preset voltage proportional to the current by a level comparator to generate an output for the load to trip.

The paper considered the theoretical information of generators for several power sources, schematic theirsolutions, and the main disadvantages and advantages. A generator for 4 batteries based on field-effect transistors with optical galvanic isolation and a clock generator built on the basisof the Atmega328 microcontroller, which is part of the Arduino Uno device, was studied. The result of the study was the confirmation of the existenceof the "Tesla-switch"effect. A program code was developed for the alternate switching of six transistor switches of the optical decoupling. The structural diagram of the device was studied, and the influence of the generator frequency and the consumed power of the load on the output parameters of the device were determined. The considered idea of energy saving and environmental friendliness of power supply systems is relevant, in particular in casesof blackouts.
W artykule rozważono informacje teoretyczne dotyczące generatorów dla kilku źródeł zasilania, schematy ich rozwiązań oraz główne wadyi zalety. Zbadano generator dla 4 baterii oparty na tranzystorach polowychz optyczną izolacjągalwaniczną oraz generator zegara zbudowany na bazie mikrokontrolera Atmega328, który jest częścią urządzenia Arduino Uno. Wynikiem badań było potwierdzenie istnienia efektu "Tesla-switch". Opracowano kod programu do naprzemiennego przełączania sześciu przełączników tranzystorowych odsprzęgacza optycznego. Zbadano schemat strukturalny urządzenia oraz określono wpływ częstotliwości generatora i mocy pobieranej przez obciążenie na parametry wyjściowe urządzenia. Rozważana idea oszczędzania energii i przyjazności dla środowiska systemów zasilania jest istotna, w szczególności w przypadku awarii zasilania.

The paper presents a concept of utilization of counter-timer circuits built in popular microcontrollers for generating precise time intervals. The main aim was to generate pulses START and STOP wholly in hardware without using a core of the microcontroller. This enables minimizing the value of time jitter of the generated time intervals and allows the use of remaining resources of the microcontroller freely. The introduced method of generation exploits the possibility of simultaneous synchronization of TIM2 and TIM3 timers from an overloaded TIM1 timer. Dependent timers work in One Pulse Mode. START and STOP signals are generated by PWM channels of individual timers. PWM channels can be configured independently which gives the possibility to generate START and STOP pulses of different polarity and width. Generation of a time interval can be triggered automatically (TIM1) or through one of the inputs of the microcontroller. The implemented generator is characterized by the generated range of time interval from 0 to 100 s and the resolution of 40 ns. The jitter of 100 ps was obtained. The concept is suitable to apply in any microcontroller of the STM32 family. It allows the generation of precise and adjustable delays in the application without the need to significantly expand a hardware part of the device.

Opis:
A ball balancing on a beam is a perfect platform for demonstration various control strategies. The task is to place ball rolling freely, in a reference position along the beam driven by a motor, rejecting disturbances. The research system consists of mechanical platform with stepper motor and two infrared ball position sensors, power supply and electronic controller based on a 32-bit microcontroller connected to Matlab/Simulink software running the main control algorithm. Designed in Simulink input and output subsystem blocks contain all functions required to provide data exchange with microprocessor controller of the mechanical system. Developed data exchange protocol and its implementation both in microcontroller software and Simulink subsystems allow to use this complete system for educational purposes: the controller designer is free to develop supervisory control layer, not going into details of system operation. The results of system operation with P, PD and LQR control laws are shown at the end of this paper.

An optoelectronic system for controlling a direct current (DC) motor is presented in Part 1 of the article. The software for the designed motor is described in Part 2. A system for processing data from an infrared transmitter was built. The project was upgraded in successive stages of development, and it ultimately evolved into a small computer with a motor controller. The designed system automatically adjusts the motor’s rotation and speed. The user is tasked only with conveying operational commands. The entire system is based on a single microcontroller. The designed optoelectronic system receives user commands (the program can be modified to support free-space optical communication networks conforming to all communication standards). The system activates the motor, counts the number of rotations and adjusts the motor’s position.The designed system operates on the following principle: the user sends commands to the motor via a remote control with an infrared diode. The keys on the remote control have been programmed with different commands. The transmitted data are processed by the system which activates the motor and sets the desired motor speed. The task is completed, and the system is ready to process the next command. If the number of rotations differs from the preset value, the motor’s position is adjusted. If the physical position of the rotor axis is altered, the system corrects the offset to the last programmed position. The designed system can be easily adapted to various types of motors and IR controllers.

This paper is aimed at the description of hardware design, software equipment and the functionality of the second evolution of the intelligent multipurpose input/output microcontroller converter and control unit designed and assembled by the authors. Preceding stages of the unit development are concisely overviewed first, the deficiencies of which give rise to the primary motivation of this contribution. Then separate hardware parts of the novel unit are described in detail including electronic schematic diagrams. The device firmware and software capabilities are introduced as well. The advantages of the unit are highlighted compared to older versions. Its functionality, performance and efficiency are then verified by a laboratory control-related dynamic responses measurement example. In the contrary to previous evolutions, a more compact hardware design, increased A/D and D/A converter resolutions, added USB communication capability, better and more accurate analog circuits with more advanced operation amplifiers, the use of OLED instead of LCD display, the pulse-width modulated signal generated by the microcontroller unit itself can be considered among the most important improvements. Moreover, the direct use of the serial link may reduce noise significantly and makes the device more universal.

The paper presents the design of a microprocessor system intended for control, data processing and communication in a multi-channel time counter. The time counter is a relatively complex autonomous instrument designed for measurements of time with picosecond precision and frequency within a range of 3.5 GHz. The device employs a high-speed, single-chip microcontroller with event-driven programming without the mediation of an operating system. The autonomous operation of the measurement system with real-time controlling and data processing was achieved. The paper focuses on the hardware design and the software development model which enables collision-free and concurrent work of many components. The device uses advanced mechanisms available in STM32 series microcontrollers, allowing the efficient support for USB and Ethernet interfaces. The microprocessor system works at a relatively low frequency, which minimizes emission of interference and allows measuring time intervals with a high precision.

This paper describes new techniques of maximum power point (MPP) tracking for solar water pumping system. The latter system consists of a PV array, a DC/DC buck converter and a universal motor coupled to a centrifugal pump. A conventional hill climbing method is employed to seek the MPP using the motor-pump rotation speed or the pump outlet pressure information. Experimental results are presented and a comparison with conventional algorithm which requires both voltage and current sensors is provided.

In this paper, a non-linear model of a 2–2 way, on–off fast-switching valve is used. The model includes subsystems of electrical, magnetic, mechanical and fluid. Pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is adopted to energise the on–off solenoid valve and allow the air to flow towards the actuator. Since the non-linear behaviour of valve is of great importance, to reduce the delay in performance of switching valves, different approaches are proposed. Furthermore, hysteresis, proportional integrator (PI), optimal model predictive and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) are used and compared. Also, to improve the valve behaviour, an empirical setup based on AVR microcontrol-ler with FLC is implemented. Empirical and simulation results indicate that all proposed control methods have superior performance. How-ever, the fuzzy method is easy to implement in practice.
