Opis:
The categories of interdisciplinarity, as well as the similar categories of multidisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, are relatively young language resources, although in many scientific disciplines are already quite weak (especially in the humanities), in the other, however, (in the social sciences), it seems that is only just emerging. This article will be devoted to this issue, with particular focus on the analysis of interdisciplinarity as a key to broad, multi-faceted research. The postulate of interdisciplinarity is, in a sense, a response to the challenges arising in the process of the development of science. First, as a response to the internal discourse on science – the crisis expressed in the progressive professionalization, specialization and institutionalisation of research. Secondly, as a response to the challenges faced in learning, in view of the fact that reality, its nature and structure, are becoming more complex and thus more difficult for scientific exploration. Interdisciplinarity means to focus attention on issues that are located at the intersection of the different disciplines. In this way, an attempt is made to break free from the narrow, deep single-discipline approach to complex issues and the many ensuing restrictions. Generally, interdisciplinarity, as demands reality across scientific disciplines, is, in a sense, added value. This is due to the fact that an overview of the test of reality from the perspective of the various branches of scientific broadens, deepens, modifies and clarifies the research results, which science is certainly beneficial.
Kategoria interdyscyplinarności (znana też w języku polskim jako międzydyscyplinarności), podobnie jak zbliżona do niej kategoria multidyscyplinarności (inaczej też wielodyscyplinarności), jak również transdyscyplinarności, stanowi stosunkowo młody zasób językowy. Chociaż w wielu gałęziach nauki (zwłaszcza w humanistyce) jest już dość utrwalony, w innych jednakże (w tym w naukach społecznych) wydaje się dopiero wyłaniającym się obszarem. Tej właśnie problematyce poświęcony jest ten artykuł, ze szczególnym ukierunkowaniem na interdyscyplinarność jako ,,klucz” do wieloaspektowych, szerokich w wymiarze badań naukowych. Postulat interdyscyplinarności jest, w pewnym sensie, reakcją na wyzwania rodzące się wraz z rozwojem nauki: po pierwsze, jako odpowiedź na dyskurs wewnętrzny o kryzysie nauki – na kryzys wyrażający się w postępującej profesjonal izacji, specjalizacji oraz instytucjonalizacji w zakresie badań naukowych; po drugie, jako odpowiedź na wyzwania stające przed nauką w związku z tym, że rzeczyw istość w swym charakterze i strukturze staje się coraz bardziej złożona i tym samym trudniejsza do naukowej eksploracji. Interdyscyplinarność oznacza skoncentrowanie uwagi na zagadnieniach, które są zlokalizowane na styku różnych dyscyplin. W ten sposób próbowano uwolnić się od wąskiego, ugruntowanego w ramach jednej dziedziny wiedzy, podejścia do złożonych kwestii oraz wynikających z tego faktu wielu ograniczeń. Generalnie interdyscyplinarność jako postulat badania rzeczywistości ponad granicami dyscyplin naukowych stanowi w pewnym sensie wartość dodaną, ponieważ ogląd badanej rzeczywistości z perspektywy różnych gałęzi naukowych poszerza, pogłębia, modyfikuje i precyzuje rezultaty badawcze, co dla nauki jest niewą tpliwie korzystne.

Wheels of locomotive axes are subject to wear during operation, when the wheel is contacting the track in the railway curves both with its rolling surface and flange. The quality of both of the mentioned surfaces has a direct impact on railway traffic safety; therefore, their wear is under special control. Statistic methods of research of wear of locomotive axes can be efficiently divided into two types: regression and probability. The article discusses the examples of research completed in Lithuanian railways. Recommendations on which method is the most appropriate method to use in which situation is provided according to results of the research.
При прохождении локомотивом кривых, колеса колесных пар подвержены износу в момент соприкосновения поверхности качения и гребня с рельсами. Качество обеих упомянутых поверхностей оказывает непосредственное влияние на безопасность движения; по этой причине их износ требует особого контроля. Статистические методы изучения износа колесных пар можно разделить на два типа: регрессионные и вероятностные. В статье обсуждаются исследования, проведенные Литовскими железными дорогами. По результатам этих исследований даются рекомендации по выбору подходящего в той или иной ситуации метода.

In 2008 the Department of Marketing Research of the Poznan University of Economics conducted a survey among the most important centres dealing with economic tendency surveys. Thematically the survey consisted of two blocks. First of them concerned the popularity of particular methods, ways of obtaining results (including self-conducted surveys and externally commissioned surveys), experience (years) in application of those methods, their most important advantages and areas of practical use. Second block consisted in the evaluation of predictive validity obtained by means of particular methods and the cost assessment of their use. The survey also dealt with a way of solving methodological problems, related to the use of particular methods, employed by the research centres i.e. popularity of ways of elimination of seasonality and trends from time series and effectiveness assessment of those filters. Whilst it is true that research community of economic trends cyclically, in connection with biennial CIRET conferences, exchanges information on the use of methods, the fact remains that this is the first survey which is a more formal attempt to sum up the applied research toolbox.

Though it is laborious to examine the culture of the school, researchers have been endeavouring to empirically apprehend it since the 1960’s. A variety of research jobs have been carried out, of various starting points, ways of materialisation, and conclusions. The present text indicates a way of classifying these studies according to the purposes they had been assigned. Though the list of examples is not entirely complete nor is the classification definite, a conclusion is clear and evident: in most cases, the culture of the school is not examined in order to grasp this culture itself. Much more often, the culture of the school is examined as a starting point, a pre-condition, or a tool to explore another object of the researcher’s interest outside the culture itself, such as the quality and evaluation of the school’s overall performance, the quality of the learning process, or the school’s developmental potential.

Opis:
The article deals with the methodology of analysing the oikonymic material in the linguistic-cultural aspect; the basic methods and techniques of such investigation have been determined. The author has emphasised that the descriptive method serves to consider oikonyms as specific encyclopaedic texts; the comparative historical method helps to study social-historical conditions of name formation; the structural one assists in finding the position of every oikonym in the system and structural paradigm of the language; the comparative method is determined to consider the place of the oikonyms of Ukraine among the names of human settlements of other national systems; the method of field investigation of the material involves modelling of linguistic-cultural portraits of oikonyms. There are four principles of naming human settlements and it has been discovered out which linguistic and cultural information the names formed according to each of these principles comprise. The term oikocultureme has been suggested, and the national specificity and linguistic-cultural universality of onyms (proper nouns) marked with this term have been analysed. The author has proved that studying oikonyms in the linguistic-cultural aspect presupposes the usage of methods and techniques of linguoculturology and onomastics.
W artykule opisano metodologię analizy materiału ojkonimicznego w aspekcie lingwokulturologicznym; określono podstawowe metody i techniki takich badań. Podkreślono fakt, że metoda opisowa służy do traktowania ojkonimów jako rodzaju tekstu; metoda porównawczo-historyczna – do badania społeczno-historycznych warunków tworzenia nazwy; strukturalna metoda pomaga odnaleźć pozycję każdego ojkonimu w paradygmacie systemowo-strukturalnym języka; porównawcza – rozważyć miejsce ojkonimów Ukrainy wśród nazw miejscowości innych systemów narodowych; metoda badań terenowych polega na modelowaniu portretów lingwokulturologicznych ojkonimów. Zadeklarowano cztery zasady nominacji osadniczej oraz określono informacje językowe i kulturowe zawarte w nazwach utworzonych zgodnie z każdą z tych zasad. Zaproponowano termin ojkokulturonim, zbadano specyfikę narodową i uniwersalność językowo-kulturową onimów, oznaczonych tym terminem. Udowodniono, że badanie ojkonimów w aspekcie lingwokulturologicznym oznacza stosowanie metod i technik lingwokulturologii i onomastyki.
 W artykule charakteryzują się współczesne ukraińskie oikonimy jako znaki onomastycznego lingwokulturowego kodu. Podkreślono jest znaczenie lingwokulturowej informacji ustanowione w każdym nazwaniu miejscowości i opisano metodykę lingwokulturologicznego badania onomastycznego materiału. Podkreślono także, że współczesne oikonimy przez lata, a nawet przez wieki swego istnienia często zostawali poddawane fonetycznym, morfologicznym zmianam. Również została zmiana nazwy osiedli i powrócono do pierwotnych nazw, ale współczesnik żyje w "polu magnetycznym" terazniejszego nazwania i tylko ono jest fenomenalnym jezyko-kulturowym znakiem, który demonstruje antropocentryczny charakter zamieszkanego osobą miejsca. Zaproponowano jest  termin oikokultoronim, przeanalizowano krajową specyfikę i jezyko-kulturową wszechstronność onimów, zaznaczonych tym terminem.

Theoretical background: Intellectual capital is perceived as a global economy driving factor. Many researchers highlight that it is an ingredient improving the functional gear of almost any organisation. Some voices have simultaneously appeared in scientific discussions claiming that the concept of intellectual capital management may not be fully applicable, either in conditions of economic downturn or during turbulent changes. A whole spectrum of external factors then come to the floor, affecting the situation of a company, while the periods of economic perturbations discourage investments in human resources and hamper HR initiatives. Therefore, in these changing economic conditions, a question arises about the rationale for and the directions of the development on the research on intellectual capital, and the concept itself undergoes a practical verification of suitability and usefulness. This is a particularly interesting field of research because the transformations, which take place in the environment of enterprises, create specific expectations, which should be met within the framework of ongoing research projects on the intellectual capital.Purpose of the article: The aim of this article is to identify the dominant topical trends and networks of research directions in the subject of intellectual capital and their changes over time. The study attempts to illustrate these changes.Research methods: Having employed the text mining method, nearly 5,000 scientific articles on intellectual capital were analysed. Consequently, this extensive literature review enabled mapping of the network of links among the research directions in this area.Main findings: The results of the study have provided a fairly deep insight into the trends in the research on intellectual capital over the years. The results also reflect the vastness of the subject and the scope of the issues addressed over the past and present years. The interest in the concept of intellectual capital management continues and the dynamics of changes in the environment of the modern enterprise is not at all insignificant. The clusters, identified in the research on intellectual capital, have been opening new theoretical, pragmatic and methodological horizons. The analysis, carried out within the study network, confirmed the multifaceted nature of the network of research directions in the area of intellectual capital. In addition, the new research trends, which have been emerging in this area, clearly respond both to the dynamic changes in the business environment and to the doubts about the scale of activities, undertaken with regard to the intellectual capital management. Thus, in this situation, the periods of crisis and instability appear on one hand as a serious threat to the issue of intellectual capital management, while on the other, they can be perceived as an opportunity to renew the existing management concepts.

One of the most challenging problems university students encounter when learning foreign languages is acquiring lexical units and enhancing vocabulary skills. The article provides the study of the methods and principles of teaching foreign language vocabulary to university students as well as their advantages and drawbacks. The general levels of educational students’ achievement in learning English are determined on the basis of the pilot research carried out at Donetsk National University in Vinnytsia and Vinnytsia National Agrarian University. Although the results of the pilot research show students’ weaknesses in the process of learning lexical units, they prove the positive impact of the presented methods and principles of teaching English at university.

Due to special conditions of functioning of machinery and devices used in coal mining, the process of its selection is important and should comprise variability of working conditions. A short review of methods of assessment of coal workability used as yet was done and the results were divided into groups. Significance of measurements and assessment of mechanical characteristics (including workability) is proven by worldwide in scientific centres by numerous elaborated methods of its assessment. In the article new devices used in determining and assessing mechanical characteristics of coal that significantly influence durability and reliability of mining machinery were described.

The scientific discipline of archeology has gone through various stages of its development and improvement of research methods. First, it was combined with ancient history and the history of art. In the mid-nineteenth century, the base of its chronology was on biblical events. Modernist archeology of the twentieth century focused on classifying monuments and reconstructing cultural processes. In the second half of the twentieth century, archeology inspired other disciplines of culture and science to “stratigraphically” look at their own history. In this way, the stratification of scientific thought (archeology of knowledge), the history of photography (archeology of photography), and the media (archeology of media) began to be analyzed. Archeology has become a cognitive metaphor in contemporary culture. Lack of knowledge of the theoretical and methodological achievements worked out by archaeologists may, after some time, lead to the trivialization and petrification of the archaeological metaphor, although today it still seems fresh and innovative for “archeology of media,” “archeology of photography,” or “archeology of modernism.”

Is comeniology a science? This question becomes the guiding thought of my contemplations. I conduct the analysis of John A. Comenius's concept according to the selected scientific criteria: logical order, levels of theory, explanatory power, heuristic power, degree of persuasion and degree of justification, power of prediction, language and methods. I accept the image of a man as a triad involving spirit (immortal part connected with the spiritual world), soul (rational part considering the free will given by the Creator) and body (animal part and the part of the soul capable of perceiving sensory stimuli). In my article I am searching for a proper interpretation of Comenius' concept of a free man that was based on observation and experience.

The article presents and discusses the way of teaching sociology of the body whose aim is to allow students to become familiar with embodied methodology and make them methodologically sensitive. The research tasks given to the students are based on analytic autoethnography which influences the students’ methodological development. Examples of the students’ works are presented and discussed, particularly in terms of the advantages they might bring in the educational proces and difficulties that they may cause to both the student and the teacher. As the most valuable benefits deriving from this way of teaching the authors indicate: raising methodological sensitivity, the ability to link embodied experience and knowledge with theoretical concepts, self-understanding in terms of social processes, but also putting into practice the perspective of embodiment in the social sciences. The courses of the sociology of the body in Poland and their status at Polish universities are presented as the context. The authors claim that the skills learnt during this course are crucial for students of sociology and for their methodological competencies, not only in the field of sociology of the body.

Several methods applied in the Department of Regional Geography of Warsaw University in research on the relationship between the natural environment and man were presented: chi-squared test, class diversification method, correlation methods, regression analysis. Their merits and limitations were described. The usefulness for research of different aspects of the nature-man relationship was discussed. New possibilities of applying thus obtained results (e.g. for delimitation of regions of the nature-man relationship) were identified.

The article presents the results of diagnostic-correlative research of quantitative/ qualitative character, related to information competence in teachers in the scope of the application of ICT methods and tools in the context of new trends in technology and the accompanying civilizational transformations. The methods of a diagnostic survey and statistical methods were applied (poll and narrative interview). A sample of 1160 teachers was examined and it was determined that: 1) the level of competence represented by the majority of the respondents can be described as satisfactory (in the light of standards – sufficient) to undertake activities for the implementation of ICT in professional practice; 2) there is a distinct connection (correlation: high, positive) between the level of information competence (findings in the cognitive sphere of teaching achievements) and the level of application of modern ICT tools (appropriate incentives in practice).

The methodology of pedagogy belongs to the youngest group of pedagogical disciplines. The first thoughts about the basic postulates of the methodology of pedagogy were recognized long ago, even in the pedagogical paradigm of John Amos Comenius (1592-1670), who created support for the methodology of pedagogy as an integral component of pedagogical science. After the presentation of the basic concepts of the pedagogical theory of this Moravian thinker, the principle of evidence in his pedagogical theory is considered in this paper. A review was made of the influence Comenius left on his followers Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) and Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827), especially from the point of view of further development of the principles of evidence in their education theories. In this paper, we have con-firmed our hypothesis about the compatibility of the principle of evidence with research techniques and instruments. Proactively action by Comenius represents a turning point not only in the field of pedagogy development as a science and its disciplines, but also in the field of human development in general. Regarding that, there is a need for a new pedagogical discipline, Comeniology, which will give a new perspective to this pedagogical doctrine and will foster a critical review in relation to his pedagogical theory. According with our research subject, we have presented some of our dilemmas and questions to which the Comeniology as a new scientific discipline could give an answer, and therefore a kind of scientific contribution. Based on the previous methodological achievements, Comeniology remains committed to discovering the origins of other research techniques and methods in the pedagogical postulates of Comenius, to determine the applicability of the Comenius pedagogical principles with regard to the changes and challenges facing the contemporary teaching process, to open the issue of pedagogical psychological competencies of teachers for the application of the golden rule of Comenius and its other principles, to continue engagement of Comenius in the qualitative educational function of a modern school, but also to consider the influence of other factors (family environment) that may influence the choice of teaching principles and methods.

The obligation to prosecute the perpetrator of any crime throughout the entire period of its punishability is one of the statutory tasks of the Police. The prominent forensic scientist — Hans Gross claimed that crime is not an abstract and theoretical entity out of touch with reality, but a real social phenomenon that can be investigated and recognised. Nevertheless, archive shelves contain records of undetected crimes from the past years that cast a shadow over police statistics and never give investigators any peace of mind. These undetected crimes from a few, a dozen or even several dozen years ago, are reinvestigated by officers from the Cold Case Units (colloquially referred to as the Police X-Files). Currently, such a unit operates in each regional police headquarters as well as in the National Police Headquarters. The methods and means that the X-Files investigators take advantage of depend on the specificity of an individual case, however, in the model of their conduct, it is forensic science that plays a significant role — alongside covert policing or criminal analysis. Physical evidence plays a huge role in determining the objective truth, and thanks to the research methods and tools currently available to crime scene investigators, the boundaries of learning about the reality are expanding. Despite the passage of time, the purpose of criminal proceedings is achieved, i.e. perpetrators of many crimes committed years ago are identified and brought to justice.
