Opis:
The aim of the study was to compare meteorological and climatological knowledge among first year students of geography at two universities: Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin and Warsaw University (UW) in Warsaw. Due to the curriculum changes in secondary schools, as well as different conditions of recruiting candidates, the level of knowledge of students in the coming years, as well as in various colleges and universities, may be different. Identical surveys were conducted twice among first year students of first level full-time studies: at the beginning of November 2014 and at the beginning of June 2015, which allowed knowledge changes evaluation at the beginning of the study and after the first year of studying geography. The problem was a matter of self-assessment of knowledge by the respondents, as many of them are not able to correctly identify it. It was found that there was a marginal increase in the level of knowledge of students of Warsaw University and the UMCS.

Opis:
The article aims to compare the intensity of use of external knowledge sources in various types of businesses. It focuses on companies in the process of internationalization as they operate in diverse, demanding environment. Furthermore, the form of ownership of companies is also taken into account as effectiveness of private- and state-owned enterprises is the topic of ongoing debate in many countries. The results show that Polish private- and state-owned enterprises engaged abroad characterize with their own specificity in terms of knowledge sources they use. Nevertheless, they acquire external knowledge less intensively than foreign owned businesses.

Opis:
The hereby article discusses the issues related to the existing or required support given by the State to enterprises in order to provide them conditions to innovate. Neoclassical economy puts an emphasis to the price mechanism as a decision making effective tool, but enterprises meet many barriers in creating and introducing innovation, like high cost, high risk or lack of demand for innovation. These phenomena tend to inhibit innovation of enterprises. This means that market is not an efficient mechanism for innovation activity of enterprises, and its imperfections provoke the State’s intervention. The goal of the article is to shape the objectives of State’s impact on decisions of innovative enterprises. Research method is the critical literature review and public data on State’s support on business R&D analysis. The research results show State’s support for both – incremental and radical innovation, which proves that innovative activity of enterprises is far from being a spontaneous, market-based process.

Opis:
Research ethics address concerns related to power imbalances. These dynamics are particularly prominent in refugee camps, where the contemporary ‘protracted’ state (UNHCR, 2004) turns them into quasi-laboratories, where refugees are subjected to scrutiny, measurement, observation, and analysis by researchers, NGOs, and governmental organizations. Researchers typically conduct brief field trips to perform predetermined scientific activities, limiting their comprehensive understanding of the subject under study. Fieldwork conducted in Nakivale Refugee Settlement (Uganda) since 2019 has highlighted an often-one-way communication dynamic between researchers and refugees, where refugees rarely receive feedback on the information they provide. Consequently, refugees develop a lack of trust towards researchers, impacting their subjectivity and self-esteem. They perceive themselves as information providers rather than owners, lacking simultaneous access to that information. The concept of power-knowledge (Foucault 1980) is instrumental in understanding this issue and reflecting on researchers’ responsibilities in studying vulnerable populations.

Opis:
Introduction and objective. For an effective and desired outcome of therapy to be achieved, the technical capacity of the healthcare worker is a key factor. The aim of the study is to assess knowledge and attitudes of primary healthcare (PHC) workers towards rational artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) prescribed in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria. Materials and method. This is a descriptive cross-sectional survey in which a self-administered structured questionnaire was used. A combination of stratified and multistage sampling techniques where utilized in the selection of the healthcare workers (HCWs). Results. Of the 422 respondents, 100 (23.7%) were males and 322 (76.3%) were females. Respondents with less than five years in practice accounted for 36%, while 64% had six years and above of practice. Community health extension workers (CHEW) accounted for 54%, while 46% were either community health officers (CHO), nurses, midwives, Bachelors of Science (BSc) in community health, or with other qualifications. A total of 390 (92.4%) were aware of the availability of ACTs and used the malaria treatment protocols, whereas 28 (6.6%) still used monotherapy for simple malaria treatment, and 2.7% did not use any form of test before initiating treatment. Co-administration of non-ACTs with ACTs accounted for 12%, with 88% prescribing paracetamol with ACTs. 67% of the respondents required capacity building in rational ACT use. Conclusion. The majority of the respondents had the requisite knowledge and skills coupled with positive attitudes in prescribing ACTs. Some respondents could not distinguish between an ACTs and a monotherapy. This may affect the exact application of the malaria treatment protocols, especially at the PHC level.

Opis:
In Brazil, and more generally, in Latin America, the struggle of the indigenous movements for the demarcation of their ancestral land and the development of an intercultural education contributed to the constitutional changes of the 1980s, which led these states to regard themselves as a multicultural nation and to recognize specific collective rights to native people and tribes living on their territory. This dynamic deals with the scope of a democratic transition and a decentralization process which characterizes a new form of governance of almost all Latin America countries where the indigenous territories and the resources at their disposal can be preserved. By giving the possibility to formulate another vision of the school education based on a dialectic between indigenous knowledge and school knowledge in a sustainable developmental perspective of the indigenous territories, new experiments started to be expanded from the 1990s. This article advances the discussion between globalized and localized educational practices. It enlightens the debate between the homogenization of school systems and other alternatives such as the use of traditional knowledge. It focuses on socio-cultural knowledge and its intersection between formal and informal education. The first section of this paper presents the theoretical framework of my research and its methodology. The second section discusses, in a historical background, how the Brazilian indigenous public policies were implemented. In the third section, I use my fieldwork data to examine and analyze the advent and the development of intercultural bilingual education (IBE) in two regions of Amazonas state (Alto Solimões and Alto Rio Negro) among the Ticuna, Baniwa, and Tukano people during the 1990s and 2000s.

Opis:
The distinctive public–private sector segmentation in China provides a unique opportunity to assess the impacts of environmental education. Considering that the ideological education of ecological civilization has long been mandatorily enforced in the public sector, including government agencies and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), ahead of the private sector, this research centers on the question of whether environmental behaviors are influenced by sector affiliation in China. We carried out an empirical comparison using data from the 2013 version of the Chinese General Social Survey. The results showed that public sector and state-owned enterprise affiliations were both positive predictors of environmental behaviors. However, private environmental behaviors were weak in SOEs and environmental knowledge had an insufficient impact on public environmental practices. These findings suggest that a more efficacious environmental education system is needed in public sectors as well as for the general public.
Charakterystyczna segmentacja sektora publiczno-prywatnego w Chinach stanowi wyjątkową okazję do oceny wpływu edukacji ekologicznej.
