Opis:
This paper presents an experimental investigation of the discharge flow pressure in the vertical silo and the hopper due to the use of insert (top cone with trunk cone bottom). Using the Insert inside the silos is one of the proposed solutions to avoid the problems of having funnel flow pattern, which has a significant effect on the distribution of flow pressure exerted on the silo wall and the hopper. The experiments were performed on a metal cylinder prototype; corn was used as a granular material, and the wall and hopper pressure distribution was measured by a special pressure transducer. The experiments revealed an important result in the flow pressure due to the change in the location of the insert. The experiments were conducted in Damascus University laboratories.

The article presents the technology of layered casting with the use of 3D printing to make a frame insert. The insert was made of powdered titanium and then filled with liquid cast iron. The paper presents the results of research, including structure observation and hardness measurements, as well as abrasion resistance tests. The results indicate the possibility of creating a local reinforcement using a frame insert. The resulting casting is characterized by a local increase in hardness and, in addition, an increase in abrasion resistance of the entire surface layer. The quality of the obtained connection depends strongly on the casting parameters.

Opis:
A finite element analysis has been carried out to investigate flow patterns and loads on silos either with a ralatively steep hopper, or with a shallow hopper but in the presence of an insert. A Lagrangian-Eulerian approach was first adopted to simulate the material flow pattern, with the precondition that mass flow was obtained. It was then attempted to predict the loads exerted by granular materials on the walls of such silos. The load on the insert was also simulated. Techniques such as the adoption of adaptive meshes and filleting along sharp corners were applied in the analysis to overcome the difficulties usually encountered with large deformations in the FEM and the mathematic singularity presented by the abruptness of geometry. Filleting proved to be necessary to bring down the pressure peak at the transition level. The insert took over a significant part of the loads. Comparison with the classic theories have confirmed that the loads predicted on the wall agree quite well with the theoretical results in the silo's cylinder section, but that differences exist in the hopper section; the difference is greater when the hopper is shallower. It has also shown the limitations of predicting flow patterns of granular materials with the traditional elastic-plastic model; a more advanced model is needed.

A simplified cellular automaton was used to calculate the kinematics of non-cohesive granular materials during confined flow in silos. In this model, granular flow was assumed to be an upward propagation of holes through a lattice composed of cells representing single particles. Calculations were carried out with different silo shapes and inserts, transition probabilities, migration rules, outflow schemes, grid types, wall roughness and cell numbers. To visualize the calculation process, horizontal layers of various shades were introduced. The simulation results were compared with laboratory tests in model silos.

The paper describes results of research on heavy vehicle tyre with Run Flat VFI insert. The experiment has included the determination of heat generation, rolling resistance, and radial stiffness of two different tyre designs (textile and steel carcass). The results have been used for the purpose of evaluation of tyre operating characteristics. The study included research on non-inflated tyre properties. The purpose of the paper is to determine characteristics of the tyres equipped with inserts, which are essential for driving wheeled APCs. The inserts are composed of polymer rings mounted on the rims inside the tyres. If the inflation pressure of the tyre is very low or if there is no inflation pressure at all, the ring transfers the loads imposed on the tyre to the rim. Usually in such a case, there is a contact of the ring and inner surface of the tyre tread area. Laboratory facility for surveys of heavy vehicles tyres, summary characteristics of radial stiffness and hysteresis of test tyres, temperature distribution on the external surface of the test tyre, comparison of radial characteristics of the tyres tested, example of stiffness characteristics, distribution of temperature on the side of tyre during the road test and carcass damages on the flat tyre are presented in the paper.

The researches have been carried out, where the object has been the set of two friction couples: valve stem - valve guide and valve seat - seat insert. The camless driven valve has been common for each of such cases. The analyzed valve has been driven by magnetoelectrical drive. The speciał research stand has been elaborated and its scheme has been presented in the article. It has been measured the valve lift and valve acceleration, the impact force, the friction force, temperature values for valve guide and for seat insert, sound level during impacting on the stand. The aim of researches has been to determine the dynamic parameters, the friction force between valve stem and valve guide, the impact force for valve impacting seat insert vs. frequency and valve lift. The analyzed valves have mated with seat inserts and valve guides made of cast iron, in oil absence. The valves have been made of TiAl6Zr4Sn2Mo2 alloy. The researched friction couples have operated in temperature equal 293 K. The increase of frequency has resulted in small changes for values of lift and in greater changes of acceleration, during valve impact into its seat insert. The greatest values of impact force and acceleration have been for the small, middle and high values of valve lift, either. The ratio of impact force and valve acceleration has changed in thin bands. The friction force has decreased slightly with frequency increase and has decreased with valve lift increase. The sound level has increased with the frequency increase, and has not been dependent upon valve lift.

This paper presents a methodology based on the finite element method to simulate the flow of granular materials. Moreover, it allows proper estimation of dynamic pressure during silo discharge since this subject is still under discussion, especially for designing silos with an insert (an input element). A 2-D simulation of the discharge process of a cylindrical silo with cone and a central discharging orifice was performed. Two cases were studied, with and without using insert in silo. Numerical analysis was carried out with the help of the uncoupled arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) approach. The resulting dynamic pressure distribution on the silo wall for each of the two cases was inferred numerically. The resulting values of pressure were compared with the results of the experimental study on a cylindrical metal silo to demonstrate the accuracy of the numerical model in determining the dynamic wall pressure, especially in the case of using an insert in silo during discharge.

NC11 steel, in view of the specificity of its manufacturing process, is characterised with band-like orientation of carbides. Depending on the direction of cutting the material for the inserts out of commercially available steel products, carbide bands can be oriented in parallel or perpendicularly to the direction in which aggregate grains move in the process of pressing stampings. It has been found that in case of scratches made in direction perpendicular to carbide bands, depth of the scratches is less than this observed when scratches are made in direction coinciding with prevailing orientation of carbide precipitates.

The article presents a method of piston temperature measurement on a running engine using electromagnetic induction for transferring measurement results from a moving measuring system placed in a piston to a stationary system attached to the engine crankcase and to measuring system located outside the engine. Selected test results that were carried out on a single-cylinder Diesel engine are presented. A system consisting of a thermistor and a secondary coil was mounted in the piston. The primary coil was mounted in the crankcase under the cylinder liner of the engine. Engine tests were aimed at determining the influence of the piston ring insert on the temperature distribution in the piston. Temperature measurements in the piston without the ring insert were carried out for comparison. In both cases, the pistons had the same geometrical dimensions. The tests were carried out in conditions of external characteristics (the maximum load as a function of engine speed) and load characteristics (load changes at constant engine speed). The test results in the form of the temperature difference between the temperature of piston top and the temperature under the top compression ring indicate that the ring insert is a barrier to the heat flow from the piston to the engine cooling system. In addition, the results of the piston temperature measurements during the step change of the engine speed and its load to the nominal value are presented.

The aim of the research presented in this paper was to develop an experimental - numerical model for predicting the life of die inserts. For this purpose, using FEM, the temperature and stress fields in the insert during stable operating cycle of a die casting machine were determined. The study of WCL steel, of which inserts are made, included fatigue tests and tests from the range of fracture mechanics. From the results obtained, a relationship was derived between the number of the die casting machine operating cycles and the propagation speed of cracks formed on the insert working surface.

This paper presents matters related to production of ceramic and cast iron composite. The composite was made with the use of a foam structured ceramic insert. The tests included measuring of hardness, impact strength and resistance to abrasive wear of the composite produced. On the basis of obtaining results was stated that the use of foamed ceramic filters provides good conditions of filling a ceramic framework with molten grey or chromium cast iron. The growth of hardness of the ceramic-grey cast iron composite is ca. 60% as compared to the grey cast iron hardness. The growth of hardness of the ceramic-chromium cast iron composite is slight and does not exceed 5 % in comparison to the chromium cast iron. Introduction of the ceramic inserts deteriorates the cast iron impact strength by ca. 20 - 30 %. The use of ceramic inserts increases the resistance to abrasive wear in case of grey cast iron by ca. 13% and in case of the chromium cast iron by ca. 10 %.
