Opis:
The aim of the article is to present Reyes Mate’s project for a culture of memory. Western culture/tradition tends to erase and blur the traces of crimes (even genocides) in order to achieve/restore peace; however, at the same time, this leads to ignoring the victim’s suffering and, in consequence, helps the wrongdoer. Following Reyes Mate, we argue that a memory of past injustices must constitute an integral part of the present and is the only means to prevent the hermeneutic death of victims. Any project for justice must put victims at the center of reflection. Memory is the beginning of the process that leads to reconciliation, for it makes it possible to redress both the victim and society. Moreover, it enables us to reclaim both the victim and wrongdoer as members of society. A culture of memory would also be a response to the failure of knowledge. Cases of extreme violence elude and transcend cognition; they are not only unthought but also unthinkable. Therefore, memory is a consequence not of discovering but of revealing the past: it follows from the fact that unthought exists and the unthinkable happened, which proves that our knowledge is limited and that we are able [and eager] to “invisibilize” victims’ suffering and depriving injustices of meaning. This is why memory should be the starting point for reflection on a new philosophical program against lassitude and oblivion, as well as on idealistic/anti-realistic and Enlightenment ideas. Memory reveals hidden aspects/dimensions of our reality and becomes at the same time an epistemic imperative and fundamental philosophical category.

This article discusses the concepts of “justice” and “injustice” in Shakespeare’s two plays: Merchant of Venice and Measure for Measure. The application of laws and its effects on the social life are the basic themes of this study. Shakespeare concluded these plays so masterfully and open endedly that it is now reader’s responsibility to decide whether the court and society are “just” enough. This study tries to give some examples from both of the plays admitting that the concept of “justice” is hard to define. The conclusions will shed further light on the discussion about the justness of Shakespearean plays.

The aim of our paper is twofold. Firstly, very original approach to the question of victims elaborated very thoroughly by Reyes Mate is presented. Unfortunately, his conceptualization of victimology is relatively little known outside Spanish and Latin American culture. It is meant as a basis for adequate theory of injustice and justice. Secondly, comprehensive and detailed metaethical analyses of fundamental concepts used by Reyes Mate are developed here by means of standard methods, i.e. triangle, hexagon, and octagon of logical oppositions.

Research Objective: The article aims to analyse the concept of structural violence to outline its essential theoretical references. The Research Problem and Methods: The main problem raised in the text is the distinction of structural violence against other forms of violence. The article uses the method of conceptual analysis supplemented with case studies. The Process of Argumentation: The definition of structural violence proposed in the paper emphasizes the presence of intentional or unintentional systemic conditions that violate or limit the rights of individuals or groups. In the order of analysis, structural violence is first distinguished from other forms of violence: personal and legitimist. There are three forms of structural violence manifestation: social injustice, direct violence caused by an unjust social system, and a permanent threat embedded in the social system. In connection with the above, the possibility of identifying structural violence with theoretical tools developed by John Rawls to specify the conditions of structural justice is indicated. As a critical complement to this approach, a caveat is discussed that shows that however useful, Rawls’s approach may not be sufficient. Finally, the issue of cultural and symbolic violence is analysed. Research Results: The conclusion drawn from the presented analysis is that structural violence is inextricably linked with social structure. A significant difficulty in minimizing it is that its sources are often invisible, remaining somewhat outside the framework of the current social paradigm. Therefore, the fight against this type of violence requires far-reaching interventions at the level of public awareness. Conclusions, Innovations, and Recommendations: Recommendations that can be derived from the above considerations focus on the need to conduct social campaigns that have the opportunity to gradually change social awareness and the often unconscious social status quo.

Opis:
This study evaluates Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun as vociferous protestations and call for redress concerning diverse forms of historical and contemporary misrule, inequalities and injustices in the Nigerian society and beyond. Thus Adichie is not just a feminist but also a humanist who is genuinely concerned with the predicaments of the subaltern in the hands of their powerful oppressors. Using New Historicism as a theoretical parameter, the study posits that several factors that resulted to conflict situations and discontent in the past in certain societies are still prevalent in contemporary times, hence the continuous agitations from various ethnic nationalities and sections of such domains, particularly in Nigeria, Adichie’s country of birth. This demonstrates that injustice and oppression perpetrated anywhere can only be laid to rest when they are sincerely redressed with nothing else but justice. The study, therefore, avers that several unresolved historical injustices and ills raised in the novels be resolutely redressed by the contemporary leaderships in those jurisdictions, and where necessary make appropriate reparations, restitution or tender decisive apologies. Doing so in the right manner will invariably contribute to global peace and stability. This implies that for lasting peace to reign in the concerned domains, several issues bordering on historical and modern-day injustices, misrule, human rights abuses, ethnic, racial and religious rivalry, etc., of which the novelist has consistently raised eloquent protestations through her fictions under study should be given serious positive attention and redress in the interest of all.

Purpose: Drawing on social exchange theory (SET), this study explores the mediating role of quiescent silence as a link between organizational stressors and turnover intentions among Russian frontline employees (FLEs). Furthermore, we aim to investigate whether coworker support moderates the relationship between quiescent silence and turnover intentions. Research Methods: The study is a cross-sectional survey administered among a sample of 235 FLEs employed in Russian healthcare organizations. We analyzed the data with SmartPLS version 3.0. Findings: The results reveal that ethical conflict and abusive supervision are significantly related to quiescent silence. Quiescent silence mediates the relationship between abusive supervision, ethical conflict, and employee turnover intentions. Managerial Implications: There is a need to provide employees with opportunities to voice their opinions. However, what is crucial is the assurance of employee privacy while motivating them to voice opinions. Managers should be more proactive in diagnosing silence. Originality: This is the first study to explore the mediating role of quiescent silence on the relationship between organizational stressors and employee turnover intentions in a unique Russian healthcare context. The moderating role of coworker support to buffer the relationship between quiescent silence and turnover intentions is unique to this study.

In this article the author attempts to outline the cognitive benefits from studying contemporary knowledge-creative practices of local cultures. She perceives such practices as a response to the demands formulated within the framework of decolonial studies and the new humanities to remedy the epistemic injustice typical of the Western world. Beginning with Boaventura de Sousa Santos’s concept of epistemicide and its specific relevance to the Polish cultural context, the author shows how it can be opposed within the framework of various models of situated and relational cognitive practices developed within decolonial, feminist and performance studies. At the same time, she enquires what modifications must be made to these models in the context of Central and Eastern Europe to foster the developement of humanities, both locally and in a broader global context. Analysing of the recent performances in the cultural milieu of Upper Silesia and Dąbrowa Basin, i.e. the Silesian Theatre in Katowice, the Korez Theatre in Katowice, and the Zagłębie Theatre in Sosnowiec, the author proposes her own concepts of local knowledge, which she calls ethno-nostalgia and ethnofuturism. She treats them as examples of micro-utopias which can firstly have an apotropaic function in the face of contemporary challenges and secondly be an alternative to the various versions of ‘folk histories of Poland’ that are currently emerging, and thirdly develop the idea of pluriversum put forth within decolonial studies. The article furthermore provides the author’s future research agenda at the Laboratory for the Study of Knowledge-Creative Practices of Local Cultures that has been recently opened at the Jagiellonian University.

The present qualitative study sought to unravel English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers’ perceptions and experiences of classroom justice and injustice. By employing purposive sampling, 31 EFL teachers in Iran were targeted to respond to an open-ended questionnaire. Subsequently, five of them took part in a follow-up, semi-structured interview. All data analyses were conducted via MAXQDA software. The main findings of the study were as follows; (1) The procedural, interactional, and distributive justice dimensions emerged in the teachers’ accounts of justice and injustice; (2) classroom justice was highlighted more saliently in teachers’ accounts than classroom injustice; (3) the teachers mainly had positive evaluations of their justice practices; and (4) they regarded educational and institutional factors, student-related factors, and teacher-related factors as the three major sources of challenges faced by EFL teachers when enacting classroom justice. It is hoped that by unraveling and reflecting on their justice and injustice behaviors, EFL teachers be prompted to go for their instructional justice betterment and more skillfully handle daily challenges that they face when trying to act fairly in the classroom.

Opis:
Since God created man for peace, the question arises: What are the causes of wars? Benedict XVI often spoke about the threats to peace to diplomats, people who are especially responsible for building peace. The author of the article examined these statements in terms of threats to peace and systematized them according to a theological key. Thus, for Benedict XVI, who put God first in the life of man and society, it was evident that the source of threats to peace is the rejection of God the Creator and Giver of the natural moral law, the deprivation of religious freedom, reductionism of man and his life, as well as erroneous ideologies. From this rejection of the transcendent dimension of reality comes social disorder, that is: injustice, deception leading to violence, evil as a source of further evil, terrorism, the struggle for access to natural resources, and poverty – all of these are direct or indirect threats to peace.

Both in the past and in the current period of human history we encounter similar problems: public lies, existential and economical destabilization, military conflicts, religious and spiritual confusion etc. As in St. Augustine´s time, today we, the modern Christians, are amidst all this turmoil also facing the challenge of how to make this world a better place to live while staying focused on the eternal and supreme Good – God himself. In a time of contemporary economic and financial crises, when many people face the threat of losing their jobs and experiencing many humiliating forms of social injustice, the Church through its leaders and thinkers is reminding us of the importance of the elementary principles of its social doctrine, as well as the universal moral norms and values that need to be exercised in the public life of the human family, as well as the personal lives of individuals. Every crisis is caused by the abandoning of morality and therefore the solution to any crisis requires our return to the timeless dimensions of truth and ethics.

The article analyzes climate change as a recent threat of the early 21st century. It presents an understanding of the concept of climate justice in the context of political discourse. The purpose of the study is to analyze the nature of climate justice and the protest forms of its implementation. To ensure climate justice, climate policy must embrace human rights, gender equality, inter-generational justice and cultural integrity. In particular, climate justice is treated everywhere by the problems of environmental democracy, climate activism, climate apartheid, climate skepticism. The author believes that climate change should be addressed not only as an environmental issue, but also as a climate justice issue focused on how the most vulnerable people are affected.
