Opis:
The researches carried out in the last decade allow to verify the current status on the Lubusz group in the literature on the subject. The Wkra (Uecker) Land should be incorporated into the borders of this group changing radically its western scope. The eastern scope is established by the enigmatic and still unrecognized Pyrzyce group, whereas the north-eastern edge by the Ina and Płonia rivers. The southern edge is determined by the Warta river due to the poor state of the research of regions to the south of the river. Thanks to the recent research on a cemetery in Czelin, Gryfino County, site 23 it was possible to verify the cultural content of the Lubusz group. The cemetery was used from phase A3 of the younger Pre-Roman Iron Age until phase C1b of the Roman Period. The main component of the cultural tradition is tradition of the Lower Elbe region expressed in the funerary rite (urn burials are in majority), pottery (the Lower Elbe shapes) and fibulae (Almgren 10–14, 136). Next comes the tradition of the Przeworsk culture noticeable mainly in the funerary rite (weapon deposits, cremated burials in pits), pottery shapes and weapons. The third element is the Wielbark tradition present in pottery shapes. The fourth element is the Scandinavian tradition recorded in metal objects including weapons (umbo Ilkiær 5/Jahn 8, sword of Vimose-Illerup type). The last one is the Roman provincial tradition (situla: Eggers 20-21, fibulae: Almgren 68 and 236, gladius of Pompeii type). The results of the research conducted in Czelin allow to consider the cemetery as eponymous site for the group (Czelin group), especially that the term “Lubusz group” does not match its western and southern scope.
Badania prowadzone w ostatniej dekadzie na dolnym Nadodrzu pozwalają zasadniczo zweryfikować zasięg i status kulturowy grupy lubuskiej, jaki znamy z dotychczasowej literatury (por. ryc. 1 i 13; Wołągiewicz 1981, 205–209). Badania cmentarzyska w Czelinie, pow. Gryfino, stan. 23 (ryc. 5:1, 3–4, 6–7, 9) i zapinek (m.in. Almgren 10–14, 136; ryc. 6:2–3). Następnym nurtem kulturowym jest tradycja kultury przeworskiej obecna w stylistyce uzbrojenia (ryc. 8:1–11; 11:1, 3–4), ceramiki (ryc. 5:2, 8) i w obrządku pogrzebowym (groby jamowe). 5:5). Czwarty nurt tworzy tradycja skandynawska czytelna w uzbrojeniu (umbo Ilkiær 5/Jahn 8, miecz typu Vimose-Illerup; ryc. 8:12; 11:5) i obecności krzesiw iglicowych (ryc. 10:5–7). Ostatni nurt, prowincjonalno-rzymski, definiuje obecność przedmiotów importowanych: situli typu Eggers 20–21, zapinek Almgren 68, 236 oraz gladiusa typu Pompeje (ryc. 6:5, 8, 10; 10:11; 11:2). Cmentarzysko w Czelinie jest obecnie najdłużej badanym metodycznie i najbogatszym stanowiskiem tzw. „grupy lubuskiej”.

The following article presents the goals and assumptions contained in the project entitled “Psychosocial influences concerning disabled people’s professional activity”. The study was conducted in four stages: (1) document analysis and literature review presenting research concerning how disabled people function on the job market; (2) expert opinions, including disabled people; (3) qualitative studies employing Maxqda2 to analyze information gathered from 311 interviews; and (4) quantitative research on a sample of 1498 participants with various types of disabilities (hearing, sight, physical, somatic, and psychological) conducted in 2007. The following article presents the first set of results obtained, referring to connections on a socio-demographic level (place of residence, gender, age, education, and marital status) as well as those isolating disability characteristics (type, level, and genesis) against degree of life satisfaction. Comparisons were executed for five groups with various employment statuses: employed, those looking for employment who had worked before, those looking for employment who had no previous employment experience, previously employed but had no intention of returning to the workforce and those who had never worked and had no intention of becoming employed. Lowest feelings of life satisfaction were among those not looking for employment whereas highest levels of life satisfaction occurred amongst employed participants. Important risk factors: gender (female), age (elderly), low education, marital status (single), place of residence (non-city dwellers), disability (innate and level).

Media market has suffered a radical transformation since 2004 and the effects of the in- vestments are seen as a subject of controversy. The first unwanted consequence is the influence that the media moguls have on public opinion by means of the press empires they own, while the second unwanted consequence is one of global type that refers to the limitation of the pluralism of expression by means of “trustization” and “tabloidization.” Not interfering with ideology, the concentration of media property reduces the cultural differ- ences and the political opinions that are present in the spectrum of the means of information. Mass media in Romania has gone through radical changes of property and editorial direction since 2004. The most controversial aspect remains the insurance of a balance between pluralism and competi- tion. All relevant domains for transparency refer, in the majority of cases, to the national regulations and do not involve European Union, except at the formal level.

Who are Czech journalists and what do they do? Based on data from 291 interviews with Czech journalists working in the news media at various levels between 2012 and 2014, for the Worlds of Journalism Study (www.worldsofjournalism.org), the paper introduces for the first time an overview of the most important results of the Czech part of the study. We present an analysis of the data on journalists’ working conditions, the most and least important perceived influences on their work, as well as their level of trust in various institutions, recent significant changes perceived in their profession and the professional roles they prefer. The basic demographic data of our sample is also given. The survey was done in two phases, between which significant media ownership changes took place, making the results highly up-to-date. We conclude that the position of journalists is changing. Journalists are required to write more stories than before, yet have less time to research them. Although they assert the importance of journalistic ethics, they have also perceived that ethical standards have somewhat weakened recently. Nevertheless, they express a high level of autonomy and freedom in their work.

Study of musical-acoustic influences, which are used to improve the functional state of a person, as well as her/his neurophysiological or psychological rehabilitation, is very relevant nowadays. It is related with a large number of conflict situations, significant psychological and informational overloads of modern human, permanent stress due to the pandemic, economic crisis, natural and man-made disasters. This work examines the effect of listening to low-frequency music on the percentage of alpha, beta, delta, and theta waves in the total spectral power of the electroencephalogram in the frequency band 0.5–30 Hz. To obtain rhythms of the brain the spectral analysis of filtered native electroencephalogram was used. For statistical analysis of neural oscillations the Student’s t-test and the sign test were implemented with usage of the Lilliefors normality criterion and the Shapiro-Wilk test. Statistically significant differences were identified in alpha, theta and delta oscillations. For the beta rhythm presented music did not play any significant role. An increase in the activity of the alpha rhythm in the temporal (for 2.20 percentage point), central (for 1.51 percentage point), parietal (for 2.70 percentage point), occipital (for 2.22 percentage point) leads of the right hemisphere and the parietal (for 1.74 percentage point) and occipital (for 2.46 percentage point) leads of the left hemisphere and also of the theta rhythm in the temporal leads of the left hemisphere (for 1.13 percentage point) were observed. The downfall of delta rhythm in the frontal lead of the left hemisphere (for 1.51 percentage point) and occipital in both hemispheres (for 1.64 and 1.33 percentage points respectively in the left and right hemispheres) was detected. These may indicate that listening to low-frequency compositions helps to restore the brain in physiological conditions at different functional overload levels, decrease the level of emotional tone, and promote relaxation.

Foreign literary influences, German and Western European in particular, played a pivotal role in the 19th-century Slovenian literary field. During this time, the first female Slovenian authors emerged. Among them was Pavlina Pajk (1854–1901) who continued the tradition of the sentimental novel. Her texts incorporate several topics and motifs associated with the novels of other Western female authors, in particular those of George Sand. Moreover, Pajk was the first Slovenian woman writer who, presumably influenced by Western ideas, started writing about “the woman question”. This article thus presents Pajk’s ideas concerning “the woman question” in her writings.

The results of semi-quantitative and qualitative studies of nannofossil assemblages in dark to light grey, rhythmically bedded, calcareous mudstones of the Upper Cieszyn Beds, Silesian Nappe of the Outer Carpathians are presented. The vertical variation in the carbonate content of these mudstones and changes in the composition of nannofossil assemblages, as well as the Shannon diversity index (SI), result from humid-arid climate changes, driving the trophic conditions of surface waters and nannoplankton biocalcification. These changes were control- led by the variable influences of both the Tethyan and Boreal provinces. The light grey mudstones were deposited during the dominance of warm waters from the Tethyan realm and some nannoconids, typical of the warm, stratified water of lower palaeolatitudes, occur here. The dark grey mudstones represent influences of the Boreal province, indicated by the appearance of Crucibiscutum sp. and a generally higher biodiversity demonstrated by SI. Climatic changes affected the stratification of surface water, expressed also by different linear fits for pairs of SI, Watznaueria barnesiae and Rhagodiscus asper. On the basis of the presence of Eiffellithus striatus, E. windii and signals of both Tethyan and Boreal influences. the section studied represents the uppermost Valanginian– lowermost Hauterivian boundary interval, i.e., the upper part of the BC5/BC6 nannofossil zones, related to the furcillata-radiatus ammonite zones.

The research covers the early years of Ukraine’s and Poland’s cooperation in their bilateral relations in the context of building up security policies between the NATO and the CSTO in 1991–1994. Various information influences from state and non-state actors, internal and external, made it so the processes of the search for security guarantees ended up quite different between the two neighboring countries. Covering sources and literature that provide evidence for influences from sources such as the Kremlin, the non-lustrated “old guard” former Communist party functionaries in Ukraine, and the former opposition in Poland, the research shows how the two countries’ relations with the NATO differed, and why, though both countries joined the Partnership for Peace program at roughly the same time, Poland managed to start active Euro-Atlantic integration much earlier than Ukraine did. Using sources such as the text of the treaties, the establishing documents and legislature guidebooks of organization, public writings of diplomats and former policy makers, the research shows what exactly were the risks that the NATO assessed in the joining of former Eastern Bloc countries (with the unstated reasons for the small number of contacts of those countries with NATO in the 1991–1994 relevant to the West’s suspicion of post-Soviet intelligence and military), and which points of the first Ukraine-NATO proved “too much” for the former. Furthermore, Ukraine’s early success with the number of NATO exercises it partook in during the first years of the Partnership for Peace became an example to other Eastern Europe countries seeking better relations with NATO and defense sector reforms, including the Republic of Poland. The paper also highlights the tendencies of cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland in the context of NATO enlargement and the various aspects of Atlantic integration. The most important among them was cooperation in security and defense, both bilateral and within the framework of the NATO Partnership for Peace Program.

Opis:
This article aims to show the ancient links between the cultural and professional migration of  the Vlach (Romanian) shepherds and their folkloric influence upon the Central Slavic ethnographic style and folkloric customs. The migration began more than 1.000 years ago and it was a phenomenon spread over East and North-East Europe and over Central Europe, far away over the River Don to the Caucasian area and through the Balkan Peninsula towards Asia Minor. Concerning the Central European medieval laws from the 17th century till the 18th century, the Vlach shepherds communities had their old oral Vlach jurisdiction and special rights periodically renewed by the Hungarian, German and Polish kings. They played an important military role as frontier guards or defenders of the nobility men. Although from the middle of the 18th century all the Vlach communities were under external domination, their cultural and folkloric heritage was identified to the Central European Slavs’ folklore. It was seen especially in the musical tradition. Many Czech, Polish and Slovak researchers have researched different old folkloric elements and published them in more than 200 abstracts or studies. The results proved that the Romanic elements were about 500 years old or more and influenced much of the Central Slavic folkloric genre. We cannot make an exception of the hundred ancient Romanian words inherited by today’s Slovak shepherds together when many thousands of Vlach ethnographic and folkloric influences lead us towards some interesting conclusions that for a long time the co-existence of the Czech, Slovak and Polish and Vlach population had generated a Slavic-Romanic cultural mix. This genre of the cultural symbioses and its elements are unique in the Central Slavic cultural area.

The basis for recognising claims for mining damage to a structure should be a mining and construction analysis, carried out following a detailed visual inspection of the damage and the results of surface deformation measurements. It allows to establish a cause and effect relation between the activity of the mining company and the damage. Unfortunately, there are cases when such an analysis is omitted and the following scheme is used: "since there is damage and the object is located in a mining area, it is mining damage". The problem is illustrated by two court cases where the author acted as an expert witness. Both cases are examples of the so-called pseudo-mining damage and confirm the thesis that the mere image of damage without professional analysis of construction and mining factors may lead to wrong conclusions regarding the causes of the damage.

A recent plethora of evidence suggests the direct influence of motivation on perception. Surprisingly, there has not been any scientific reports concerning whether the intrinsic motivation to experience a particular phenomenon can influence the character of that experience. To examine such possibility, an experimental study employing Rubber Hand Illusion (RHI) paradigm was conducted. The strength of the illusion has been assessed using first- (question- naire) and third-person (skin conductance response – SCR – in a situation threatening rubber hand) measurement methods. Correlation between self-reported motivation and self-reported strength of the illusion did not reach statistical significance. However, highly motivated participants displayed pattern of skin conductance response characteristic for strong illusion. We conclude that the motivated participants actually experienced the illusion stronger, but simultaneously their expectations concerning the illusion escalated so their subjective reports of the strength of the illusion did not reflect results obtained by SCR. The obtained results support the hypothesis that cognition influences perception

Opis:
This paper examines the cultural heritage of the Swahili of East Africa based on an analysis of archaeological, historical and anthropological literature. The intricate history of Swahili interaction with the maritime environment, their immediate neighbours and the outside world since the last quarter of the first millennium BC produced a distinct cultural heritage. Coupled with internal dynamics, these interactions led to the rise and fall of a civilization characterized by a unique socio-cultural, economic and political pattern on the East African coast. Swahili cultural heritage reflects this interaction. This examination analyses a selection of tangible and intangible aspects, including ruined buildings, wooden crafts, and Swahili modes of dress, literary art and communication, music and dance. The paper concludes by examining the influence of Swahili cultural heritage on world culture.
