    Introduction. Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a clinical manifestation of varicella zoster virus reactivation. It is characterized by an erythematous vesicular rash in the external auditory canal and pinna with otalgia, vertigo and ipsilesional facial palsy. Symptoms develop over a few days with prodromal signs of facial weakness, tingling, facial numbness. Usually, cranial nerves VII and VIII are involved in the inflammatory process. Possible consequences of Ramsay Hunt syndrome are hearing loss, encephalitis and meningitis. Description of the case report. The authors present the case of a 63-year-old woman with a vesicular rash, earache, vertigo and left-sided facial paralysis who was treated with antiviral drugs and analgesics. These symptoms were complicated by conductive hearing loss in the left ear and meningitis. After treatment facial paralysis decreased. Unfortunately, hearing loss was permanent. Discussion. Rapid administration of antivirals and corticosteroids limited facial paralysis and improved facial expression. The prognosis for facial palsy is poorer in Ramsay Hunt syndrome than in idiopathic forms. Conclusions. A past history of vertigo and hypertension could been a predisposing factor for the severe manifestation of Ramsay Hunt syndrome and subsequent complications

    This paper takes a relevance-theoretical approach to the English translation of “Дзікае паляванне караля Стаха” (1964), the Belarusian novel written by Uladzìmìr Karatkevìč – “King Stakh’s Wild Hunt” (translated by Mary Mintz, 1989). In doing so, it proposes a different perspective on the alleged ‘untranslatability’ of minority literature. The analysis takes into account various procedures applied to the different elements of the novel and reveals that Mintz makes strategic choices aimed at choosing the best solution for each problem individually.

    The aim of the paper is to describe and analyze the activities of Helen Ukpabio, a Nigerian preacher, who operates in the Akwa Ibom state. She combines elements of Christianity with African traditions in order to induce the fear of witches in people. Her activities bring forth massive expulsions of the accused of witchcraft children from their homes and villages. The Nigerian’s actions have met with a protest of the humanitarian organizations defending human rights. The article attempts to analyze the phenomenon in the social and cultural context, as well as to reflect on it from the perspective of universal humanistic values.

    Na podstawie wybranych utworów literackich, Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontё i Pani na Shalott Alfreda Tennysona, oraz obrazu Prerafaelity Williama Hunta artykuł ukazuje sposoby kwestionowania przez ich autorów wiktoriańskiego ideału kobiety-anioła, strażniczki domowego ogniska. Omawiane prace pokazują jednocześnie, że wspólna tematyka umożliwia przekroczenie barier gatunkowych, a przez to ukazanie podobnej intensywności uczuć, dotarcie do intymnych przestrzeni świadomości i ukrytych przed światem pragnień i przemyśleń bohaterek, które nie wahają się kwestionować usankcjonowanych konwencji społecznych. We wszystkich omawianych pracach kluczowym elementem definiującym przynależność społeczną jest przestrzeń i to w odniesieniu do niej bohaterki Charlotte Brontё, Jane Eyre i Bertha Rochester, oraz Pani na Shalott Tennysona i Hunta definiują swoją tożsamość. Artykuł ukazuje, że to właśnie w odniesieniu do na nowo zdefiniowanego własnego terytorium odnajdują one drogę do swoiście pojmowanej wolności i uwolnienia kobiecości.
    This paper is based on the assumption that it is possible to overcome generic boundaries and discern a shared language in the literary and visual arts. Its purpose is to demonstrate how literature and art rupture the Victorian ideal of angelic woman at home and allow us to enter intimate territories of female minds where free will goes against the sanctioned expectations. I will demonstrate this on the basis of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, where a pilgrimage to maturity and emotional fulfilment is embodied as space. This text will be juxtaposed with Tennyson’s “The Lady of Shalott,” read as a representation of defiance of gender-ascribed confinement. One of this poem’s most potent pictorial images, Hunt’s engraving of 1857 (a basis for his later painting of 1905), capturing the Lady in the moment of fateful decision-making is compared with Jane Eyre’s other silent home-ridden character, Bertha Rochester. All three images, of Jane, Bertha and the Lady, realise in their own way a territorial relocation seen as necessary for an untrapping of femininity.

    A development of the Jackson-Hunt’s theory is delivered. Contrary to Jackson-Hunt’s theory for ideally coupled growth the current description is dealing with the coupled eutectic growth which is more realistic than an ideal course of eutectic structure formation. Thus, the undercooling of every eutectic phase is not equal to each other. A new boundary condition is introduced to solve the diffusion equation. According to this condition, the eutectic concentration is always maintained at the triple point of the solid / liquid (s/l) interface. Therefore, the solution to diffusion equation is given separately for both lamellae. The mass balance is satisfied by the current solution. Both thermodynamic equilibrium and mechanical equilibrium are assumed to be situated at the triple point of the s/l interface, only. A protrusion of the leading phase over the wetting phase is defined mathematically due to the mass balance fulfilment. The current description is associated with the asymmetrical phase diagrams. Finally, the current description is applied to interpretation of the rapid eutectic growth. Therefore, Aziz’s concept for the changes of partition ratio versus growth rate is introduced into the description. As a result, the rapid formation of the eutectic structure is described by the oscillatory mode. Interpretation of the oscillatory mode of the eutectic structure formation is illustrated in the arbitrary eutectic phase diagram. The eutectic structure, obtained through the detonation gas spraying onto the steel substrate (rapid solidification) is delivered to illustrate the present description.
