Opis:
Gas sector was one of the best growing industries of the Soviet Union in the last two decades of its existence. This was made possible thanks to the discovery and exploitation of natural gas fields in Western Siberia, as well as the construction of transmission infrastructure - domestic and export pipelines. The history of the Russian gas industry is inextricably linked with the activity of Gazprom, the gas concern set up in 1989 in place of liquidated Ministry of Gas Industry. The article gives a summary of the 25-year history of Gazprom and its economic, social and political role. It discusses activities of the company on internal and external markets, issues of gas reserves, production and transmission, as well as the financial and political relationship with the authorities of the Russian Federation.

Opis:
The present state and tendencies of the natural gas market and gas storage in Europe areaddressed in this paper and compared to the situation in Poland. The European countries are presented in view of their natural gas production, import and export vs. consumption (total and per capita) and the consumer structure. The changing consumption level is assessed as a function of the consumer's structure and quantity of consumption. This has a direct influence on the demand for natural gas storage. The author also characterizes the gas storage market in Europe, accounting for the existing and planned investments, with special emphasis on storage capacity, injection and withdrawal capacity, and also types of storages. The characteristic was based on, among others, the consumption level, home production and import in particular countries.

Opis:
There is a several year experience concerning exploration and production of shale resources in the USA. First production wells started in 1996 (the history of hydraulic fracturing is even 40-50 years older), and last few years one can observe a huge impact on American economy and decreasing level of natural gas import. One can assume that the development will grow significantly and the USA will stay self-sufficient and can start exportation of hydrocarbons - especially LNG. The economy will decide about the share of the natural gas in energy mix - energy balance. In the paper there is a detailed discussion concerning economy of the shale exploration and production (i.e. the costs of drillings, services, geological conditions versus timings and schedule of production). Based on analyzed scope one can predict a stable progress in cost reduction (learning curves) linked with production of shale hydrocarbons.

Opis:
As is well known, gas consumption and its prices depends on many factors including local factors, geopolitics, the development of the gas transport infrastructure (including liquefied natural gas), distribution and extraction costs – for example unconventional deposits (e.g. shale gas). The global gas market depends primarily on the economic relations between large gas producers and importers e.g. US-China, Middle East/US – Russia etc. (Olayele 2015). In individual countries, the price is also dependent on concluded contracts and delivery directions. Also it should be mentioned that the gas consumption depends on weather conditions, type of day of the year (holiday, business day, month) and economic situation (Kosowski et. al 2010). What impact has the appearance of the COVID-19 epidemic had on the European natural gas market? The analyzed research problem concerned, in particular, two areas: gas consumption and its prices, in selected European countries in the aspect of the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic with reference to historical data from 2016–2019. Seven European countries belonging to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) were selected, for which the highest inland consumption of natural gas by country was observed in the last year. The countries are presented in order or consumption: Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland. The data has been downloaded from transmission system operators (TSOs) for each of these countries. Furthermore the article showed information about the dates of governments restrictions (lockdown), LNG contract volumes, injection/withdrawal volumes (storage).
Wytypowano siedem krajów europejskich należących do Europejskiej Sieci Operatorów Systemów Przesyłowych Gazu (ENTSOG), w przypadku których w ostatnim roku zaobserwowano najwyższe krajowe zużycie gazu ziemnego. W odpowiedniej kolejności są to: Niemcy, Wielka Brytania, Włochy, Francja, Holandia, Hiszpania, Polska. Dane zostały pobrane od operatorów systemów przesyłowych (OSP) dla każdego z tych krajów. Ponadto artykuł przedstawił informacje o terminach wprowadzonych ograniczeń rządowych (restrykcje), wolumenach kontraktów LNG, wielkościach zatłaczania / odbioru do podziemnych magazynów gazu.

Opis:
In the article, the authors characterize the current European market with natural gas, describing differences in prices for households and prices for companies from the point of view of individual components, where they focus more on taxes, levies and fees. The article further deals with the possible impact of the price of natural gas on the country's economy, more specifically, the correlation with inflation, unemployment and interest rates. The main aim of the authors is to establish an appropriate econometric model, which describes the impact of the price of natural gas together with the unemployment rate and interest rates on the inflation of the country. The price of natural gas, of this strategic raw material, is one of the factors that can influence the processes for low-carbon technologies or more precisely, the process of EU decarbonisation and with it the associated amount of CO2 emissions.

A Bayesian stochastic volatility model with a leverage effect, normal errors and jump component with the double exponential distribution of a jump value is proposed. The ready to use Gibbs sampler is presented, which enables one to conduct statistical inference. In the empirical study, the SVLEDEJ model is applied to model logarithmic growth rates of one month forward gas prices. The results reveal an important role of both jump and stochastic volatility components.

Opis:
The economic significance of shale gas in Poland cannot be underestimated. In 2010 Poland was considered among the most promising of European countries for replicating the American shale gas boom. A study undertaken in 2011 by the United States Energy Information Administration placed Poland first among European countries in terms of technically recoverable reserves. Later reports downgraded the estimate of recoverable gas. In the EU member states were increasing reliance on imports from outside the EU, especially from Federation of Russia. For instance France currently imports gas from Algeria, the Netherlands, Russia and Norway, the UK from Norway and the Netherlands and LNG from Qatar. In addition, geopolitical factors may make shale gas in the EU more expensive to produce, and there are also infrastructure challenges. Other challenges include fracking litigation both in the United States and UK with the potential aftermath for European courts. In the United States, landowners often stand to benefit financially from drilling on their property—if they own the underground resources, they may receive a bonus or royalties upon leasing to an oil company in order to develop the resources. On the other hand, among the many obstacles in further development of shale gas might be the possible impacts of hydraulic fracturing on the environment and on human health.

Opis:
This paper examines the development of oil prices in the last years and its impact on energy security of the southern Europe countries. The development of oil prices in the last years has a potential impact on all economies. Indeed the impact was positive for crude oil importing economies but in the other hand, negative impact on crude oil exporting economies. According to our analysis, the impact was positive on all southern Europe economies, regardless the scale of the impact. Off course the low crude oil prices improves the affordablity of energy supply, but for the energy security of southern Europe countries should be insured by other alternative energy resources, among them natural gas and renewable energy resources.
