Opis:
The deforestation and forest degradation rates have a propensity to rise every year. The problems in pertaining with the issue is not solely preoccupied on the ecological concern but also to the socio-economic impacts. The complexity of forest management is a serious barrier in determining a better management policy. Modeling system is a simple method to describe the real situation in nature. A qualitative approach is used to identify the relationship between the dynamics of important behaviors. The causal relationships among the factors were investigated by using causal loop diagram. The model conceptualization was constructed by using a stock-flow diagram. The result of the simulation model was used to determine the alternative policies for better forest management. The results indicated that the tenant welfare would be enhanced through the provision of production-sharing by 25% and the Corporate Social Responsibility by 2%, which yields a reduction in cultivated area of 916.61 ha within a period of 67 years or a decline of land area by an average of 13.68 ha per year.

Opis:
The functioning of forests in Poland is often associated with a productive role and the production of wood-based raw materials, disregarding the need to protect forest environments. In practice, the approach to the protection of nature and animals, including insects in forest areas, has changed in recent decades. Many researchers still point to the need to protect the processes taking place in forest environments. Actions are being taken to reduce monocultures in forests and to increase the biodiversity of plants and animals living among crops. A good example described in this paper is the relationship between seed plantations and insects. These relationships may have a positive effect on the fruiting process and seed production in selected tree species. This paper presents an example of the relationship between wild bees and Prunus avium L. seed plantations as an example of a positive relationship in which humans as well as pollinating insects can benefit. The structure and size of Prunus cultivation in Poland are described and the hitherto harvest of seeds is analysed. The elements of the biology of the Prunus species, important for the process of pollination of flowers by insects are also indicated. The study also indicates ways to protect bees in the forest environment.

The paper discusses the results of rooting experiments conducted with the cuttings obtained from 8-year-old spruce trees of Istebna race. The studies investigated the effects of endogenous factors, such as the place of extraction, length and origin of cuttings, and an exogenous factor, which is a rooting stimulus.

Opis:
This study present species composition and potential of litter on carbon and nitrogen return in secondary mixed deciduous forest after shifting cultivation. The dominant species of trees were Haldina cordifolia, Albizia odoratissima and Lagerstroemia duperreana. The Important Value Index (IVI) values of trees were 132.91, 17.78 and 14.22, respectively. The pattern for the decomposition coefficients (k) was highest in the wet period (May–September) and lowest in the dry period (October–April). The carbon and nitrogen return patterns increased in the dry period (October– April) and decreased in the wet period (May–September). Carbon and nitrogen loss in the decomposing litter continually decreased during the decomposition process from the initial levels, with a final relatively rapid release in the wet period. Results from this study was understanding of community composition, litterfall production and litter decomposition for understanding potential of secondary mixed deciduous forest for balancing carbon for mitigating greenhouse gas effect in the local area.

Opis:
Eight sandy and three loess forest and arable soils taken from the S-E region of Poland were used in the study. The following fractions of C were determined: total organic carbon, fraction soluble in 0.5 mol NaOH dm-3 (humic acids + fulvic acids), humic acids, fulvic acids, fraction soluble in 0.5 mol H2SO4 dm-3 (hemicelluloses) and residue. Quantity and quality of organic matter depended on horizon and soil use. The highest content was shown by fraction of humus acids and residue, whereas the lowest - hemicelluloses fraction. In most soils C ratio of humic to fulvic acids exceeded 1.0. On average, in humus horizons, it was higher in arable than in forest soils and in loess as against sandy soils. In sandy soils, a slightly higher content of humus fraction and lower residue one than in loess soils was found.
