The second half of this essay focuses on the translation of psychoanalysis, especially Strachey’s brilliant yet much-criticised translation of Freud.

    In the paper, the authors present and analyse examples of mistranslated film titles into the Polish language, selected from a database of over 1,100 titles and presented on the sample of the film genre comedy with all its subgenres. The authors discuss various film title translation strategies and procedures with reference to the literature on the subject. In the conclusions, the authors attempt to explain the reasons for the selection of certain translation procedures, with special focus on the free formulation of titles as the least transparent.

    Almayer’s Folly (1896) by Joseph Conrad challenged the conventions of the fictional romance while confronting the need of native-born Malayans and other Asian individuals to find voice and identity in an imperial context. Along with the narrative voice in this text are the many other voices of those who have been colonized. Fidelity to one’s identity and openness to relationships across cultures lies at the crux of this study. Conrad’s critics of the 1950s and 1960s dismissed his first novel as a romance with a weak subplot. However, that subplot, about Almayer’s daughter Nina and her love affair, sets forth moral claims of loyalty and fidelity that must be taken into account. For her relation- ship with a Malay prince expresses a love that is binding and enduring, one that crosses boundaries and divisions and is an apt model for our culturally convergent world. Conrad creates a dialectic of intercultural subjectivities to make a point about identity, loyalty, and self-fashioning. Whereas Almayer is portrayed as foolish and inflexible, his daughter, Nina, faces significant issues of identity, as she has to choose between the traditional, indigenous heritage of her mother and her father’s modern European aspirations. With Almayer’s Folly, Joseph Conrad showed himself to be an international novelist who could develop a story with an inter-racial and intercultural cast of characters.

    Electromagnetic radiation exposure increases with the rise of the wireless communication devices. Electromagnetic radiation, especially near 2400 MHz band, has gradually increased with the widespread of wireless fidelity adapter in indoor environment. In this study, electromagnetic radiation in dwellings where different Wi-Fi adapters and routers are used was assessed by measuring the electric field and compared with other electromagnetic radiation source and the limits set by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority. Measurements were taken in the range of 760-2690 MHz bands used by GSM, 3G/LTE and Wi-Fi technologies. The detected values for all frequencies are significantly lower than the limits of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority. Among the electromagnetic radiation sources, electromagnetic radiation of Wi-Fi adapter is higher than GSM/3G/LTE sources radiation in dwellings. Electromagnetic radiation values in nearest point of high power adapter Wi-Fi antenna are close to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority limit value. Results show that electromagnetic radiation based on Wi-Fi adapters or routers can be higher than GSM based electromagnetic radiation.

    The overarching aim was to reduce the frequency of connection failures that occur due to the connection speed and reliability, and identify, characterise and optimise the key process input variables (KPIVs). An experimental research approach with an inbuilt planned manipulation to one or more variables in the experimental data set was adopted. Key elements of the Six-Sigma methodology were applied to resolve the issue of high failures due to connection speed and reliability between two Li-Fi transceivers. KPIVs were successfully identified, characterised and optimised to implement a permanent corrective action to ensure a reduction in connection failures from 17% to 0%. The alignment between two Li-Fi transceivers along with Li-Fi cut-out was found to be critical in achieving good connection speed and reliability. The interference due to ambient visible spectrum lighting found to be statistically insignificant. This study explored the application and benefits of accessible wireless data communication technologies. Moreover, it sheds light on the probable factors that may influence Li-Fi connection speed and areas for future research. The current research provides a Six- Sigma based solution to high connection failure rates while using an infrared-based Li-Fi transceiver. Results also offer insights into the analytical tools that were found to be effective during the problem-solving process.

    The ongoing synodal process (16th Ordinary General Assembly: For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission), which began in October 2021 and will culminate in the same month of 2024, is encouraging a broad participation of the faithful in the synods, starting from the particular Churches. In terms of its concrete objective, it is a reflection on synodality and its exercise around synodal assemblies. This article explores synodality as a constitutive dimension of the Church and its meaning in practice. It delves into the organic cooperation between pastors and faithful as the basis for the participation of the baptised in synods. It looks at some specific aspects of synods: their service in favour of communion and mission, as an instrument of discernment of the “dynamic fidelity” which characterises the Church's journey; the appropriateness of a journey from the peripheries to the centre; the attitudes proper to those who participate in a synod; and the theological-pastoral dimensions of the synod. All this, taking into account the experience of the Church and the current reflection.

    In an article is described a new definition of input-to-output signal projection fidelity coefficient for any DSP algorithm, in particularly for nonlinear digital filters. The probabilistic fidelity coefficient is based on a function (polynomial) that assigns an algorithm distributions: response with constraint. For some algorithms, which are too difficult for analytic calculation of this function presented is an experimental method for obtain a fidelity coefficient.
    Szacowanie jakości obrazu jest zagadnieniem rozpatrywanym w licznych publikacjach. Problem ten jest szczególnie istotny, gdy zachodzi konieczność porównywania algorytmów cyfrowego przetwarzania obrazu. Pod pojęciem "jakość przetwarzania" zwykle rozumie się co najmniej dwa parametry: zachowanie pierwotnej struktury sygnału (oryginału) i stopień tłumienia zakłóceń. W niniejszej pracy rozpatrywany jest tylko pierwszy z nich, bowiem zdaniem autora, jest trudniejszy do zdefiniowania i budzi wśród autorów prac z zakresu DSP wiele kontrowersji. W artykule pokazano opis niektórych probabilistycznych właściwości obrazów o reprezentacji w odcieniach szarości. Zwraca się tu szczególną uwagę na związek wielomianowy między dystrybuantą na wyjściu z dystrybuantą na wejściu analizowanego algorytmu (11). Związek ten wykorzystano do zdefiniowania probabilistycznego kryterium jakości PIF (16), które bardzo dobrze pokrywa się z subiektywną oceną jakości obrazu wyjściowego, a co za tym idzie, z oceną jakości badanego algorytmu. Współczynnik PIF może być dla niektórych algorytmów określony analitycznie, ale w wielu przypadkach jest to bardzo trudne lub wręcz niemożliwe. W związku z tym opracowano eksperymentalną metodę szacowania PIF, której skuteczność wykazano na przykładzie.

    In this paper, the effect of an indoor visible light communication channel is studied. Moreover, the analysis of the received power distribution of the photodiode in the line of sight and the first reflection of the channel without line of sight with several parameters is simulated. Two different waveforms are explained in detail. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing has been widely adopted in radio frequency and optical communication systems. One of the most important disadvantages of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal is the high peak-to-average power ratio. Therefore, it is important to minimize the peak-to-average power ratio in the visible light communication systems more than in radio-frequency wireless applications. In the visible light communication systems, the high peak-to-average power ratio produces a high DC bias which reduces power efficiency of the system. A discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is proposed to be used in wireless communication systems; its ability to minimize peak-to-average power ratio has been tested. The analysis of two different subcarrier allocation methods for the discrete Fourier transform-spread subcarriers, as well as the examination of two distinct subcarrier allocation strategies, distributed and localized mapping, are investigated and studied. The effects of an accurate new sub-band mapping for the localized discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing scheme are presented in this paper. The light-fidelity system performance of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with different sub-mapping techniques are simulated with Matlab™. A system performance size of bit error rate and peak-to-average power ratio are obtained, as well.

    This article examines the issues of soundscape construction and reception and states that a city is a construction built from private sonic narrations that both shape and are shaped by spatial structures. The analysis of three audio-visual practices: Playtime,a film by Jacques Tati;Infrasonic Soundscape, an interactive online artwork by Hidekazu Minami; and Dialtones (A Telesymphony) by Golan Levin, a concert performance whose sounds were produced by theaudience’s mobile phones reveals the polyphonic character of space. These examples necessitate verifying the way one perceives the understanding of the concepts of sound and space as well as their interactions. The phenomenon of soundscapes requires transgressing the dichotomies of space/place, seeing/listening (sound/image), and listener (recipient)/creative subject (sender of a specific message), in favour of the intermediate categories. The core of the interspace which arises on this ground constitutes a dialog anyone might enter if they afford a gesture addressed to the other (various forms of space embodiment).

    Righteousness (Yi), one of the core classical Confucian values, has developed to be a hermeneutic concept of “Righteous Principles” (Yiri) in Neo-Confucianism. This term has been used as the embodiment of righteousness and rational principles (Yiriron). All the major political events during the Joseon dynasty were the target to verify its legitimacy through the prism of the Yiri from the foundation of the dynasty, through king Sejo’s accession, Sarimpa’s domination, and international relationship, to the Righteous Armies in a historical context. These events had closely cooperated with Joseon literati’s spirits (Seonbi Jeongsin) which practiced a strict Code of Conduct to pursue a high standard of Neo-Confucian gentlemanship. This article focuses on the historical processes of Joseon Literati’s Fidelity in the socio-political realities.
    Праведность (Yi), одна из основных ценностей традиционного конфуцианства, превратилась в герменевтическую концепцию «праведных принципов» (Yiri) в неоконфуцианстве. Этот термин использовался для описания слияния праведности и „рациональных принципов” (Yiriron). Во времена правления династии Чосон – от ее основания, вступления на престол короля Седжона, правления фракции Саримпа, в международных отношениях и до национальных движений армий справедливости – все основные политические события использовались для подтверждения в свете Yiri законности власти. Эти события были тесно связаны с духом ученых (Сонби Чонсин), согласно которому соблюдались строгие правила поведения для реализации высоких стандартов неоконфуцианского образования. Статья показывает в историческом ракурсе преданность учёных (литераторов) династии Чосон в социально-политических реалиях.

    Maritime education and training (MET) has a long tradition of using simulator training to develop competent seafarers and relevant seafaring skills. In a safety critical domain like maritime industry, simulators provide opportunities to acquire technical, procedural and operational skills without the risks and expense associated with on-the-job training. In such training, computer-generated simulations and simulators with higher realism are inferred to better training outcomes. This realism, or the extent to which simulators replicate the experience of a real work environment, is referred to as the “fidelity” of a simulator. As the simulation technology develops, the maritime industry adapts to more advanced, higher fidelity simulators. However, the cost of a simulator generally increases with increasing fidelity, and thus practical and economic constraints must be considered. In this paper, we investigated two types of simulators on perceived skill development of the students at engine room simulation training. We compared the self-efficacy levels of 11 second year marine engineering students and their perceived skill development between two different fidelity engine room simulators. The result suggests that students have higher motivation and prefer to train with immersive training simulators compared to the traditional training. This article aims to add to existing knowledge on the influence of fidelity of simulators in training effectiveness in maritime education and training.
