Opis:
The article discusses the valuation of ecosystem services in connection with the economic activity of the Russian Federation in the Arctic zone. It also considers the categories of ecosystem services in general and the assessment of ecosystem services in the Arctic in particular. The article also considers types of negative impacts on the Arctic ecosystems, their assessment, and investment risks existing in ecosystem services. It is shown that the application of the methodology and ecosystem services contributes to the adequate assessment and creation of a hierarchical classification of “usefulness” and “benefits” for society derived from the existence, use, and non-use of ecosystems. The concept of Arctic ecosystem services consists of three components: identification, monetisation, and ecological risk assessment. Identification, classification, and initial assessment, mainly at the qualitative level, allow us to determine and classify services for further improvement of life quality and regulation of socio-economic effects of environmental changes. Quantitative assessment is related to the identification of the degree of ecosystem service amenability. The example of the Arctic ecosystems shows that the possibility to assess and the accuracy of the assessment can be quite different and largely depends on the type of service. The analysis of possible ecosystem services and their relationship with the quality of life in the Russian Arctic indicates significant investment risks.

Bełchatow Lignite Mine is the largest producer of lignite in Poland with estimated coal reserves of 700 million tons. The mine excavates two lignite deposits Bełchatow and Szczercow. The Szczercow lignite deposit occupies the western part of the Kleszczow trough, located in the Polish Lowlands. The main part of the lithostratigraphic profile of the Szczercow lignite deposit is a multilayer coal complex, whose thickness varies from 1 to 180 m, with the overburden ratio of 2.84:1. The average thickness of the balance lignite amounts to 40 m. The carbonaceous coefficient of the coal complex in the predominant part of the deposit is over 70%, but locally reaches even up to 100%. Lignite from the Szczercow deposit is of an average technological quality. It typically contains 51.7% of total moisture, 23.6% of ash on dry basis, 3.36% total sulphur recalculated to dry basis, and a net calorific value of 7.33 MJ/kg. Random reflectance (R0) is 0.27% with huminite group macerals averaging at 85%. According to the International Classification of In-Seam Coals and Low Rank Coal Utlization, the technological code of the lignite from the Szczercow deposit is: humic low-rank C (orto-lignite) 19 51 23 33. Similarities between the quality parameters of lignite from the Szczercow and Bełchatow deposits will allow it to be burned in the Bełchatow lignite-fired power plant and may give a chance to extend its activity after the completion of lignite mining from the Bełchatow deposit.

Opis:
This paper presents calculations based on results of a field experiment, in which selected potato cultivars grown for industrial processing received different fertilization. The data originated from trials on three potato cultivars: Adam, Pasja Pomorska and Ślęza, at set up at the Research Station in Bałcyny, owned by the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and completed in 2008-2010. The economic analysis included planned and performed treatments as well as such information as the type of technical equipment, labour and draught force input, or material outlays. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that the three starch potato cultivars responded differently to foliar fertilization. The cv. Pasja Pomorska yielded the highest under soil fertilization with 280 kg·haˉ¹ NPK (80 N, 80 P, 120 K) and foliar application of Basfoliar 12-4-6 in a dose of 8 dm3·haˉ¹. Considering the ratio of the yields to costs, cv. Ślęza was characterized by the best profitability index, which in every technological variant reached a value of over 2.0. From the point of view of rational economy, the most profitable was the fertilization combination which consisted of soil fertilization with 420 kg·haˉ¹ NPK (120 N, 144 P, 156 K) and foliar application of Basfoliar 12-4-6 with Solubor DF in amounts of 4 + 1 dm³·haˉ¹.
W pracy zaprezentowano obliczenia będące wynikami doświadczenia polowego związanego z wpływem zróżnicowanego nawożenia wybranych odmian ziemniaka do przetwórstwa przemysłowego. Zamieszczone zestawienia dotyczą badań nad odmianami: Adam, Pasja Pomorska i Ślęza, wykonanych w latach 2008-2010, prowadzonych w Stacji Doświadczalnej Uniwersytetu Warmińsko-Mazurskiego w Bałcy-nach.

We propose a method of constructing multisector-multiregion input-output tables, based on the standard multisector tables and the tools of spatial econometrics. Voivodship-level (NUTS-2) and subregion-level data (NUTS-3) on sectoral value added is used to fit a spatial model, based on a modification of the Durbin model. The structural coefficients are calibrated, based on I-O multipliers, while the spatial weight matrices are estimated as parsimoniously parametrised functions of physical distance and limited supply in certain regions. We incorporate additional restrictions to derive proportions in which every cross-sectoral flow should be interpolated into cross-regional flow matrix. All calculations are based on publicly available data. The method is illustrated with an example of regional economic impact assessment for a generic construction company located in Eastern Poland.

Opis:
Sustainable mining management is increasingly seen as an important issue in achieving a social license to operate for mining companies. This study describes the life cycle cost (LCC) analysis and environmental valuation for several coal mine tailings management scenarios. The economic feasibility of six different options was assessed using the Net Present Value (NPV) and Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) methods. These options were belt press (OPT 1), tailings paste (OPT 2), thickened tailings (OPT 3), and OPT 1 with technology improvement and renewable energy sources (OPT 1A-C). The results revealed that OPT 1A (belt press technology with stack cell flotation) was the first preference in terms of LCC while OPT 1C (belt press technology with stack cell flotation and 10% wind energy) generated the highest benefits value (BCA) compared to the other options. The LCC and BCA components and the volume of GHG emissions were used to determine the best option. Normalization of these three elements resulted in the selection of Option 1C as being the most cost-effective option.

The paper looks into selected problems relating to the evaluation of economic efficiency of telework implementation for IT teams. Telework is a form of employment which can be successfully used in most of IT activities and professions. The need for rationalizing constantly growing labor costs makes it necessary to implement telework programs in IT teams. The author presents the methodological background for a study of economic efficiency of such programs based on the Cost-Benefits Analysis (CBA). Estimates of expected benefits are based on Key Goal Indicators (KGI) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) recommended in the PO7 Manage IT Human Resources process of the COBIT® (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology) 4.1 model. The validity of a suggested approach is then verified on a real example of IT telework program implemented in a large organization, with detailed effectiveness assessments included in the article.

In economies with relatively short free-market traditions, enterprises are highly exposed to general economic risk, including fluctuations in the business cycle, which may result in the limitation of their development opportunities and discourage them from undertaking business activity. Having regard to the aforementioned circumstances, the main goal of this article is to assess the exposure of Polish enterprises to the risk related to changes in the economic situation. To achieve the goal set in such a manner, the first part of the article covers the grounds for the undertaken research along with an overview of the literature concerning the presented issues. In the second part of the article, the results of the risk assessment and the relationships of its level to the course of the business cycle in Poland during the years of 2000 to 2015 are shown. In the process of risk measurement, the statistical measures of variability and dynamics indices regarding the financial results of Polish enterprises are used. Whereas, in the course of determining the changes in the business cycle, the author makes use of the changes in the level of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The enterprise assessment is used to verify its activity and is a point of departure to make future decisions. The assessment quality depends on its executor’s knowledge, experience and capabilities. Enterprises have adopted an assessment performance method based on their needs and activity specifics. In the ever changing environment the applied enterprise assessment algorithm should be progressively improved. The present enterprise assessment satisfies its basic needs but is not sufficient. The assessment should be enriched by a number of elements that will consider the enterprise logistic system multidimensionality. Numerous factors and their mutual relations should be taken into account in the assessment. This makes it necessary to form a pattern of the enterprise assessment algorithm that would function as a guide.

Opis:
Livestock sector forms an important livelihood activity for farmers, through supporting agriculture and supplementing income in India. The lack of availability of sufficient feed is one of the major limiting factors for better productivity of livestock. The feed are of two types as roughages (high in crude fibrous material) available at public forest, farm lands, etc. and concentrates (high in nutrients and mixture of oil, coarse grain, and cereals). The general degradation of forest reduces the fodder availability, severely. Therefore, improving forest condition may provide pathways for sustainability of both, livestock and forest. This may be addressed through sustainable forest management, which requires scientific inputs and may be shifting of some demand of locals to other resources. This requires huge amount from government. Presently, livestock sector is part of the Agriculture and Allied Activities sector in the accounting system of India, and therefore, all related shares and expenditure is part of the component. This results into under allocation for the actual shares of forestry contribution to livestock, in the Forestry and Logging sector. This occurs primarily, due to the lack of scientific information on the share and value of fodder from forest. This study has been undertaken to estimate the share and economic value of forests derived livestock feed. Primary data has been collected as per pretested questionnaire from 316 randomly selected households engaged in livestock rearing from 66 villages distributed across the Uttarakhand, India. Information pertaining to the fodder to livestock from all sources and socio-economic attributes were collected from each household to understand the feed consumption behavior of livestock. The feed sources were classified in forests, other than forests and market. The shares and economic value of livestock feed derived from different sources has been estimated for all livestock. The prices of various feeds were either collected directly from market or estimated through non market valuation techniques based on two scenarios (contingent valuation and ratio of dry and green matter basis of 0.40). The average proportion of feed quantity consumed by livestock was 58% from forests, 39% from other than forests and 3% from markets for hilly region. It was 97% from other than forests and 3% from markets for plain region. For hilly region, the proportion of economic value varies from 40– 41% for forest; 40– 41% for agriculture and 18– 20% from market. The total value of forest fodder was Rs 4811 millions in scenario 1 and Rs 5209 millions in scenario 2 for the Uttarakhand. The study concludes and recommends that these proportions may be utilized to allocate the appropriate share of livestock feed into Forestry and Logging sector, which may results into the realistic share of the sector.

The objective of the research was to identify and select homogeneous segments of consumers in terms of their competence on the market of the financial services, as well as to evaluate the influence of the consumers’ economic competence on the relations with banks. The sociodemographic features as well as the place that the consumer occupies within the social structures provide a poor explanation of the evaluation of the banks. Opinions about banks are poorly correlated with the socio-economic status of the consumer. There is a weak relationship between the economic status of the consumer and his/her economic competence. There is a strong correlation between the economic competence of a consumer and the overall evaluation of the banks. Four homogeneous groups of consumers were selected in terms of economic competence: Self-excluded (17%), Uninterested (48%), Second-raters (30%), and Leaders (6%). The segmentation was conducted using latent class analysis (LCA). The latent class analysis enabled one to identify the subtypes of the interconnected features which are unobserved in the traditional model. The source of the empirical data is comprised of the field research results conducted by the CAPI method on a nationwide representative sample of the residents of Poland, N=3000.

The large multilevel oil and gas, metallurgical, mining and chemical and many other companies compete in an oligopolistic market and occupy key positions in the Russian economics. For ensuring the maximization of the value and effectiveness of capital for such companies the construction principles used to formulate a model of economic results achievement should be justified. There are various ways to assess the economic results of the company, the features of holdings formation and functioning, the problems in the assessment of a multilevel company. These factors should be considered in determining the construction principles for a model of economic results achievement in a multilevel company.
Dla gospodarki rosyjskiej w branżach paliwowej, gazowej, metalurgicznej, górniczej, chemicznej charakterystyczne jest występowanie dużych grup kapitałowych konkurujących ze sobą na rynku oligopolistycznym. W takich przedsiębiorstwach o wielopoziomowej strukturze zarządzania w celu zapewnienia maksymalizacji wartości i efektywności wykorzystania kapitału konieczne jest stworzenie modelu realizacji i oceny określonych efektów ekonomicznych.

Plaster plays an important role in the building industry. Besides an aesthetic function it provides the protection of external walls from weather conditions. In the paper thermo insulating Thermopor plaster was described. Its chemical and physical properties and manner of using were defined. The impact on the environment with the use of LCA technique was examined. Thermopor plaster can fulfil a thermo insulating function. The economic and ecological analysis of applying this plaster in the thermo insulation of the external walls of the building was conducted. The use of Thermopor plaster on external walls brings ecological benefits. The reimbursement of ecological cost related to the use of this plaster appears already after 2 to 5 years, depending on the source of heat used, which results from the decrease of thermal energy consumption for heating the building. For economic reasons, the partial reimbursement of cost is obtained as a result of the reduction of heating cost. Although Thermopor plaster has thermo insulating properties similar to typical insulating materials, such as polystyrene or mineral wool, the economic cost of using the plaster for thermo insulation becomes several times higher.

A technological quality method was used to compare two methods of sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) production. The first method was the classic spray method (CM) and the second was a dry single-stage method (DSM). The assessment criteria were environmental, based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) evaluation and economic, based on production costs. The technological quality assessment of CM was 6.5% lower in comparison to DSM. LCA environmental analyses showed that the partial environmental quality of DSM was lower by only 4.4% compared to CM. Partial economic quality was lower by 10.3%, mainly due to the lower energy costs (on average 52%) for DSM. The advantage of the new DSM method is the technological progress achieved, mainly due to the application of new technology, design, and apparatus solutions; thus, the basic elements of the activities proposed in the methodology allow for cleaner STPP production.
