Opis:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of sonoelastography in patients of primary and secondary health care settings. Google scholar, PubMed, Medline, Medscape, Wikipedia and NCBI were searched in October 2017 for all original studies and review articles to identify the relevant material. Two reviewers independently selected articles for evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of sonoelastography in different diseases based on titles and abstracts retrieved by the literature search. The accuracy of sonoelastography in different diseases was used as the index text, while B-mode sonography, micro pure imaging, surgery and histological findings were used as reference texts. Superficial lymph nodes, neck nodules, malignancy in thyroid nodules, benign and malignant cervical lymph nodes, thyroid nodules, prostate carcinoma, benign and malignant breast abnormalities, liver diseases, parotid and salivary gland masses, pancreatic masses, musculoskeletal diseases and renal disorders were target conditions. The data extracted by the two reviewers concerning selected study characteristics and results were presented in tables and figures. In total, 46 studies were found for breast masses, lymph nodes, prostate carcinoma, liver diseases, salivary and parotid gland diseases, pancreatic masses, musculoskeletal diseases and renal diseases, and the overall sensitivity of sonoelastography in diagnosing all these diseases was 83.14% while specificity was 81.41%. This literature review demonstrates that sonoelastography is characterized by high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing different disorders of the body.
Celem badania była ocena dokładności diagnostycznej sonoelastografii u chorych leczonych w warunkach placówek podstawowej i specjalistycznej opieki zdrowotnej. W październiku 2017 roku dokonano przeglądu baz danych Google Scholar, PubMed, MEDLINE, Medscape, Wikipedia oraz NCBI w celu pozyskania prac oryginalnych i poglądowych, które stanowiły materiał do badania. Prace wybierało dwóch badaczy niezależnie. Oceniono dokładność sonoelastografii w diagnostyce różnych chorób na podstawie tytułów i streszczeń wyszukanych prac. Główny termin stanowiła „skuteczność sonoelastografii w diagnostyce różnych chorób”, a terminy „ultrasonografia w trybie B-mode”, „obrazowanie MicroPure”, „zabieg operacyjny” i „wynik badania histopatologicznego” stosowano jako terminy referencyjne. Badane patologie dotyczyły: powierzchownych węzłów chłonnych, guzków okolicy szyi, złośliwych guzów tarczycy, łagodnych i złośliwych zmian w węzłach chłonnych szyjnych, guzków tarczycy, raka gruczołu krokowego, łagodnych i złośliwych zmian w piersiach, chorób wątroby, zmian w śliniankach przyusznych i gruczołach ślinowych, zmian w trzustce, chorób układu mięśniowo-szkieletowego oraz chorób nerek. Pozyskane przez dwóch badaczy dane dotyczące charakterystyki ocenianych prac oraz wyniki analizy przedstawiają tabele i ryciny. W sumie wyszukano 46 badań dotyczących zmian w piersiach, węzłów chłonnych, raka gruczołu krokowego, chorób wątroby, chorób gruczołów ślinowych i ślinianek przyusznych, zmian w trzustce, chorób układu mięśniowo-szkieletowego i chorób nerek, a ogólna czułość i swoistość sonoelastografii w diagnostyce tych chorób wynosiły odpowiednio 83,14% i 81,41%. Niniejszy przegląd literatury wskazuje na wysoką czułość i swoistość sonoelastografii w diagnostyce różnych chorób. Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the sulphur content in 33 samples of oils pressed from different species of vegetable. The unconventional oil samples were purchased from commercial store. Oils was analysed in terms of sulphur content according to the method using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry with wave dispersion, that is described in the PN-EN ISO 20884, 2012 standard. Obtained results of sulphur analysis were presented as the arithmetic mean ± standard deviation (from three replicates) and statistically analysed using the Statistica 13.0 PL program. In order to indicate significance of differences between oils analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Tukey’s test of p ≤ 0.05 significance level was used. The statistical analysis indicated significant differences in the content of sulphur content in the analysed vegetable oils, which could affect the lubricity of prepared fuel blends and in some cases significantly, increase the sulphur content above acceptable value 10 ppm. It was concluded that vegetable oils could be a suitable raw material improving the lubricating properties of low-sulphur diesel oils. However, due to significant differences in the sulphur content in the analysed samples, the content of this element should be analysed beforehand in order to eliminate the possibility of exceeding the permissible level of sulphur in transport fuels.

We investigated the phenotypic variation of five morphological needle characters of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in three populations. Two of the populations occurred in bogs and the third one formed a degraded fresh pine forest showing some features of a dry pine forest. The greatest variation was found in characters a (needle length), b and d, denoting the number of stomatal rows respectively on the convex and flat sides of the needle. Conversely, characters c and e (average number of stomata per 2 mm of needle length on the convex and the flat side of the needle) were stable, with little interindividual variation. The two bog populations and the dryland population exhibited different sets of character correlations. The interpopulation differentiational detected on the basis of morphological character expression was markedly influenced by both the different edaphic conditions, and the distinct genetic structure of the studied populations.

The pressure on the use of water and climate change has caused a decreased availability of water resources in semi-arid areas in the last decades. The Setif Province is one of the semi-arid zones of Algeria as it receives an average less than 400 mm∙year–1. The question of the evolution of demographic pressures and their impacts on water resources arise. By applying WEAP software (water evaluation and planning), the aim is to develop a model of water resources management and its utilization, assess the proportion of the resource-needs balance and analyse the future situation of water according to different scenarios. This approach allows to identify the most vulnerable sites to climatic and anthropogenic pressures. The estimation of the needs for drinking water and wastewater in the Setif Province has shown that these needs increase over time and happening when the offer is not able to cover the demand in a suitable way. It is acknowledged that there is a poor exploitation of water resources including underground resources, which translates into unmet demand in all sites of demand.

Plants must continually calibrate their growth in response to the environment throughout their whole life cycle. Revealing the regularity of plant early growth and development is of great significance to plant genetic modification. It was previously demonstrated that loss of two key light signaling transcription factors, FHY3 and FAR1, can cause a stunted stature in the plant adult stage, and numerous defense response genes can be continuously activated. In this study, we performed a time-course transcriptome analysis of the early 4 weeks of leaf samples from wild plants and their fhy3 and far1 transcription factors. By comparative transcriptome analysis, we found that during the early 4 weeks of plant growth, plants primarily promoted morphogenesis by organizing their microtubules in the second week. In the third week, plants began to trigger large- scale defense responses to resist various external stresses. In the fourth week, increased photosynthetic efficiency promoted rapid biomass accumulation. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis of FHY3 and FAR1 revealed that the two light signaling transcription factors may be originally involved in the regulation of genes during embryonic development, and in the later growth stage, they might regulate gene expression of some defense-related genes to balance plant growth and immunity. Remarkably, our yeast two-hybrid and bimolecular fluorescence complementation experiments showed that FAR1 interacts with the immune signaling factor EDS1. Taken together, this study demonstrates the major biological processes occurring during the early 4 weeks of plant growth. The light signaling transcription factors, FHY3 and FAR1, may integrate light signals with immune signals to widely regulate plant growth by directly interacting with EDS1.

Opis:
Background. Selenium belongs to important microelements. Numerous studies have revealed relationships between its deficiency and occurrence of diverse illnesses, but the question of the proper form and dose of Se-supplementation still remains unsolved. Objective. In the present study the influence of different selenium compounds on blood morphology and biochemistry as well as on phagocytic capacity of granulocytes and NBT test in rats was investigated. Material and methods. Adolescent male Wistar rats were divided into four groups (ten animals each): I – control, received saline; II – received sodium selenite Na2SeO3; III – received selenoorganic compound A of chain structure 4-(o-tolyl-)-selenosemicarbazide of 2-chlorobenzoic acid; IV – received selenoorganic compound B of cyclic structure 3-(2-chlorobenzoylamino-)- 2-(o-tolylimino-)-4-methyl-4-selenazoline. The administration was performed by stomach tube at a dose of 5 · 10-4 mg Se g-1 b.w. once a day for 10 days. Results. Selenium compounds treatment decreased haematocrit. Erythrocytes number was unchanged in all groups receiving Se vs. control, whereas leucocytes number was depressed in groups II and IV. Haemoglobin was significantly decreased in group III. White blood count was altered in groups II and III, where all parameters were markedly decreased except for lymphocytes in group III and remained unchanged in group IV. The outcomes regarding selenium effect on biochemistry parameters of blood showed that urea remained unchanged, glucose was statistically decreased in groups II and III, whereas cholesterol was significantly diminished in group II and increased in group III vs. control. Results concerning phagocytosis and NBT test displayed that % of positive cells were decreased in groups II and III, whereas remained unaltered in group IV vs. control. Conclusions. As cyclic selenoorganic compound B did not cause many significant changes of the studied parameters it may be suggested that after further researches it could be taken into account as a possible selenium supplement.
Wprowadzenie. Selen należy do mikropierwiastków o dużym znaczeniu dla organizmu. Badania naukowe wykazały istnienie zależności pomiędzy niedoborem selenu a występowaniem wielu poważnych schorzeń, jednakże kwestia doboru odpowiedniej formy i dawki stosowanej w suplementacji nadal pozostaje nierozwiązana. Cel. W przeprowadzonym doświadczeniu badano wpływ podawania różnych związków selenu na morfologię krwi i biochemię krwi oraz zdolności fagocytarne granulocytów i test NBT u szczurów. Materiał i metody. Młode szczury samce rasy Wistar podzielono na cztery grupy (po 10 zwierząt): I – kontrola, otrzymywała sól fizjologiczną; II – otrzymywała selenian(IV) sodu Na2SeO3; III – otrzymywała organiczny związek selenu A o budowie łańcuchowej 4-(o-tolilo-)-selenosemikarbazyd kwasu 2-chlorobenzoesowego; IV - otrzymywała organiczny związek selenu B o budowie cyklicznej 3-(2-chlorobenzoiloamino-)-2-(o-toliloimino-)-4-metylo-4-selenazolinę. Związki podawane były sondą dożołądkowo w dawce 5 · 10-4 mg Se g-1 m.c. raz dziennie przez okres 10 dni. Wyniki. Podawanie związków selenu obniżyło hematokryt. Liczba erytrocytów we wszystkich grupach pozostała niezmieniona w stosunku do kontroli a liczba leukocytów była zmniejszona w grupach II i IV. Stężenie glukozy w przypadku grup II i III uległo istotnemu statystycznie obniżeniu. Stężenie cholesterolu w II grupie było istotnie obniżone a w III podwyższone w porównaniu z kontrolą. Badania fagocytozy i wyniki testu NBT wykazały, że % pozytywnych komórek uległ obniżeniu w grupach II i III w stosunku do grupy kontrolnej i pozostał niezmieniony w grupie IV. Wnioski. Ponieważ organiczny związek cykliczny B nie spowodował istotnych statystycznie zmian wielu badanych parametrów można byłoby sugerować, że przeprowadzenie dalszych badań pozwoli rozważyć jego zastosowanie jako suplementu selenu.

The effects of different types of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi on the root inoculation and plant elemental content of lupin (Lupinus albus L.) were investigated in the present study. The growth and development of lupin were examined to determine the species of AM fungi that can help to grow lupin with a high protein content and economic value. In this study, which was carried out as a pot experiment under controlled greenhouse conditions, first the pots were inoculated with Glomus geosporum, Glomus mosseae, Glomus caledonium, Glomus etunicatium mycorrhizal spores and then lupin (Lupinus albus) seeds were sown. The plants were watered with pure water during the experiment. The trial was terminated after a 60-day plant gowing period. In the study, inoculation occurred at lupin roots at rates varying between 13.3 and 30.0%. However, there was no statistically significant difference among the types of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi applied to the plant in the inoculation rate. The examination of the effect of the application of different AM (Glomus geosporum, Glomus mosseae, Glomus caledonium, Glomus etunicatium) spore on the plant development showed that AM inoculation did not have an effect on the lupin development. The effect of AM inoculation on the plant’s nutrient content revealed no significant difference in the content of crude protein, P and K, while demonstrating a significant increase in the sulphur and magnesium content versus the control. The plant content of crude protein varied between 185.6 and 226.5 (g kg-1), phosphorus – 0.61-0.74 (g kg-1) and potassium – 9.6-11.1 (g kg-1). The concentrations of Zn, Cu, B and Mo in lupin did not show statistically significant modifications caused by the inoculation of different types of AM. However, the plant Mn content showed a decrease due to AM inoculation, whereas a significant increase was observed in the Na content after AM inoculation. AM fungi were observed in plant roots after the inoculation with any of the four different types of mycorrhiza. But no positive effects of mycorrhizal inoculation were not observed on crude protein and the uptake of plant nutrients.

Opis:
Optimal nutrition of sugar beets at critical growth stages is one of the crucial factors for the achievement of their highest yield potential. In the present study, it was presumed that reduced systems of sugar beet cultivation had no effect on the plants’ nutritional status at critical growth stages, on their yield or technological quality. In 2012-2013, two series of one-factorial field experiments with different beet crop husbandry were carried out in order to verify this hypothesis. The cultivation systems of sugar beet crops differed in the postharvest cultivation technology, mulch types and seedbed tillage. Conservation tillage systems were compared with the control treatment, which represented the conventional cultivation system with an application of manure and 35 cm deep autumn ploughing. The plant nutritional status assessment was carried out at two dates corresponding to the following growth stages: BBCH 16/17 (6-8 fully unfolded true leaves) and BBCH 39/40 (row closing). Regardless of the methods of tillage or the year of observation, the results showed that the plants at BBCH16/17 stage were well-nourished with macroelements but malnourished with microelements, mainly iron and zinc. The microelement deficiency in the plants was a result of adjusted soil reaction, which varied from slightly acidic to neutral. At the BBCH 39/40 stage, there was a decreasing trend in the content of leaf macronutrients in the no-tillage systems treatments compared to the conventional tillage with the ploughing depth to 35 cm and manure application. The reduced tillage systems in sugar beet cultivation did not result in either a yield decrease or a worse technological quality of roots. The experimental factor had no significant effect on the content of molassegenic compounds in beet roots. A decreasing trend was observed in the content of α-amino nitrogen and potassium when compared to the traditional cultivation system. The study showed that the choice of a cultivation technology is of secondary importance as long as the plant grows in optimal conditions resulting from an appropriate site selection.
