Factorial Design Approach
Opis:
An attempt has been made to recycle Styrofoam waste to a novel functional polymer, Phenyl thiosemicarbazone surface (PTS). Polystyrene (PS) obtained from Styrofoam waste was acetylated and then condensed to PTS by reacting it with 4-Phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide ligand and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Synthesized PTS was applied successfully for the treatment of lead contaminated water by batch extraction method. Sorption variables were optimized (pH 8, adsorbent dose 53mg, initial Pb(II) ion concentration 10mgl-1 and agitation time 90min) by factorial design approach. Lead uptake by PTS was found much sensitive to the pH of Pb(II) ion solution. The maximum removal (99.61%) of Pb(II) ions was achieved at optimum conditions. The Langmuir and D-R isotherm study suggested the monolayer, favorable (RL=0.0001-0.01) and chemisorption (E=20.41š0.12kJmol-1) nature of the adsorption process. The sorption capacity of PTS was found to be 45.25š0.69mgg-1. The FT-IR spectroscopy study showed the involvement of nitrogen and sulphur of thiosemicarbazone moiety of PTS for the uptake of Pb(II) ions by fi ve membered chelate formation.

In this paper, the necessity of architectural approach change of workplace design is identified because of the change in the way business processes are used to challenge the transition from the post-industrial to the information society. Transformation is explained firstly by changing the interpretation of the territory of workplace, which today requires new extended definitions. Understanding transformation of the territory of workspace, whose physical frames do not follow fast information society and the modern work processes changes, goes through interdisciplinary approach. By analyzing the theories of organization - classical and contemporary, based on the views of Manuel Castell’s social theory and space of flows, the paper argues that the network society has key impact on the transformation of the working areas in office buildings. Transformation divides areas on the „places” and “the spaces of flows”, and formats of territorial and non-territorial workplaces. The aim of the paper is to determine the basis for defining the modern architectural approach and critical attitude in designing office facilities and workspaces. The paper presents three case studies during last three decades – transformations that includes business processes and workspace changes, which was prepared for many years and interdisciplinary, with different results achieved.
W niniejszym artykule autor próbuje dokonać (re)interpretacji terminu nieterytorialnego miejsca pracy, którego poprawne zrozumienie jest kluczowe podczas projektowania nowoczesnych budynków biurowych. Jaki wpływ na projektowanie miejsc pracy ma rozwój technologii informacyjnej? Aby odpowiedzieć na to pytanie należy najpierw dostrzec i zrozumieć dokonujący się proces transformacji obszaru roboczego, którego fizyczne ramy nie podążają za szybkim społeczeństwem informacyjnym, a współczesne procesy robocze wciąż ulegają zmianom. Analizując teorie organizacji – klasyczne i współczesne, oparte na poglądach teorii społecznej Manuela Castells'a i przestrzeni przepływów, artykuł dowodzi, że społeczeństwo sieciowe ma kluczowy wpływ na przekształcenia miejsc pracy w budynkach biurowych. Transformacja ta dzieli je na „miejsca” i „przestrzenie przepływów” oraz formaty miejsc pracy terytorialnych i nieterytorialnych. Celem artykułu jest określenie podstaw do zdefiniowania nowoczesnego podejścia architektonicznego i krytycznego w projektowaniu obiektów biurowych. W pracy przedstawiono trzy studia przypadków (z trzech ostatnich dekad). Są to transformacje obejmujące procesy biznesowe i obszary robocze.

Opis:
Growth of demand for containerized cargo shipping has put more ports into pressure to accommodate larger vessels. Considering the limitations on dimensions of navigation channels, this is not feasible unless aiming for significant capital dredging or alternatively creating high precision predictions of vessel motions subjected to environmental forcing and interaction with shallow and restricted waterway. NCOS ONLINE (Nonlinear Channel Optimisation Simulator) is a state of the art navigation support tool which combines DHI’s high level forecast of environmental conditions with mathematical model of ship motions to add an extra level of accuracy in predicting the under-keel clearance and vessel swept path to boost the efficiency of navigation and pilotage within restricted channels. NCOS Manoeuvring Module utilizes an autopilot scheme based on PID (Proportional / Integral / Derivative) controller and Line of Sight Algorithm to FORCE Technology’s SimFlex4 manoeuvring solver for prediction of manoeuvring ship swept path and response, which will effectively bring the accuracy of real time full bridge simulator to fast time operation support tool. In this paper, the result of mathematical model is validated against fullscale measurements of containership transits through Port of Auckland Navigation channel by comparing pilot commands, leeway drift and swept path through output of portable pilotage unit. According to the results the model is found promising to predict the behaviour of human pilots with precision required in operational use. Finally, the swept path and manoeuvring performance of a sample transit is assessed on different environmental conditions and tide stages to evaluate the safe transit windows in operation.

This article describes the process of recognising and acquiring new capabilities in the frame of operational planning process. It refers to the changes in the operational environment which can be observed nowadays. Educating senior officers is a process which requires proper tools, techniques, methods and approach. War Studies University tries to respond to these appearing needs in the field of operational planning process, especially in understanding the operational environment. The article looks at the elements of this process. Implementing the design thinking may possibly be an offer that has to be tested. A general overview of the testing model is the aim of the second part of this article. A description of the experimental model includes control and experimental group, dependent and independent variables. Additionally, selected tools are presented. The conduct of the pilot research to verify methods and the way of conducting the experiment is also predicted. The article also refers to the problems of cultural adaptation of the scenario. First of all, the scenario has to be of complex context. This is the consequence of used typology of the operational environment. In the Cynefin framework, environment is divided into four types: simple, complicated, complex and chaotic. The article underlines the meaning of the research concerning the design thinking, as a divergent approach, in the process of implementing this into operational planning.

The studied problem in this paper, treat the issue of state and fault estimation using a fuzzy observer in the case of unmeasurable decision variable for Discrete-Time Takagi-Sugeno Singular Sytems (DTSSS). First, an augmented system is introduced to gather state and fault into a single vector, then on the basis of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) approach, this observer is designed in explicit form to estimate both of state and fault of a nonlinear singular system. The exponential stability of this observer is studied using Lyapunov theory and the convergence conditions are solved with Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). Finally a numerical example is simulated, and results are given to validate the offered approach.

The increasing sizes of ships and lack of functionality of the existing solutions determine the interest in rebuilding the already existing solutions. Simulation models allow to analyse the possible modernisation variants taking into account the variability of elementary parameters. The article presents analysis results for the Przemyslowy Canal in Szczecin with respect to navigation safety and regulating traffic regulations in the Przemyslowy Canal taking into consideration the interests of all subjects involved. The paper applies real-time simulation methods based on manoeuvring simulators. After a thorough analysis that took into account the safety of navigation, further possibilities of development have been determined. Study results are aimed at designing new solutions in case of modernization of the Przemyslowy Canal in Szczecin.

One of the ways that meta-design methodology, introduced into the DSS area by Moore and Chang, can be further advanced thanks to the DSS architecture approach. The seminal Sprague-Carlson DSS design paradigm (Data-Dialog-Modeling) underlies or underpins most discussions of DSS architectures. Research done by the authors for several Polish business enterprises in the 1980s indicated the need to extend the Sprague-Carlson architecture. Their proposed solution thus seeks to enhance the original meta-design DSS methodology. The paper aims to present the findings of the authors’ research efforts focusing on a solution which has been in effect for over a decade in large enterprises as well as in capital groups.

Ships are operating in regions with seasonal ice coverage outside the Baltic Sea. Due to the lack of experience operating in regions such as the Arctic Sea, existing design guidelines may not lead to reliable and safe ships. This article summarises regulatory aspects of ship design for ice-covered waters, focusing on structural compliance and design ice load determination. The latter will be obtained using a probabilistic approach and compared to the current rule-based load. Based on the discrepancy and the existence of ice induced damage, different measures aimed at mitigating damage are presented. Furthermore, the influence of sub-zero temperature (SZT) in a collision scenario on the material response is presented.

Propellers usually operate in the ship’s stern, where the inflow of the non-uniform wake generates oscillating loads and changes the hydrodynamic performance. Therefore, determination of the forces on propellers and hydrodynamic performance due to a non-uniform wake field are the challenging problems for naval architects and hydrodynamists. The main objectives of the present study are to assess the hydrodynamic performance for a single blade and all the blades. The propeller is a B-series propeller under non-uniform wake field behind the Seiun-Maru (hereafter SM) ship hull. A practical approach is employed to calculate the hydrodynamic oscillating loads of the ship propeller under a non-uniform wake field. Results of the computations on the propeller behind the SM ship, due to a non-uniform wake field, are presented and analyzed using classical mathematical methods over a single cycle. The results show that a variation of thrust with the discussed parameters is the same as that shown for torque, also the blade-frequency of the total force, thrust and torque is an increasing function of radial sections, whereas these parameters decrease with increasing radial blade sections.

This article outlines the main tenets and the working cycle of Design Thinking, which is a problem-solving methodology. We argue that this methodology helps train qualities and skills that are particularly beneficial for students of translator education programmes. We recommend Design Thinking for translation teachers who subscribe to post-positivist, constructivist and other problem-based, participatory and collaborative educational approaches. The latter part of the article presents examples of classroom activities developed with the use of Design Thinking methodology. The activities focus mostly on communicative interactions between participants, since we believe that the major advantage of Design Thinking for the translation classroom is that it offers a structured scaffolding to improve classroom communication.

In complex industrial plants, there are usually many sensors and the modeling of plants leads to lots of mathematical relations. This paper presents a general method for finding all the possible testable subsystems, i.e., sets of relations that can lead to various types of detection tests. This method, which is based on structural analysis, provides the constraints that have to be used for the design of each detection test and manages situations where constraints contain non-deductible variables and where some constraints cannot be gathered in the same test. Thanks to these results, it becomes possible to select the most interesting testable subsystems regarding detectability and diagnosability criteria. Application examples dealing with a road network, a digital counter and an electronic circuit are presented.

The work presents the results of research that focus on creating high-quality public space through the involvement of society and taking into account the opinions of various stakeholder groups. The main goal is to understand how the concepts of "man-space-management" can be integrated in the process of creating high-quality public places in accordance with the principles of UN-Habitat. An important research aspect is the development of FCM (Fuzzy Cognitive Maps) models and various scenarios for the development of public space, which will enable the effective use of financial resources by the government, non-governmental organizations and private investors. The research is based on the opinions of the Zielona Góra community, which were collected through "placegame" workshops and questionnaires.
Praca prezentuje wyniki badań, które skupiają się na tworzeniu wysokiej jakości przestrzeni publicznej poprzez zaangażowanie społeczeństwa i uwzględnienie opinii różnych grup interesariuszy. Głównym celem jest zrozumienie, w jaki sposób można integrować koncepcje "człowiek-przestrzeń-zarządzanie" w procesie kreacji miejsc publicznych o wysokiej jakości, zgodnych z zasadami ONZ Habitat. Istotnym aspektem badawczym jest opracowanie modeli FCM (Fuzzy Cognitive Maps) oraz różnych scenariuszy rozwoju przestrzeni publicznej, które umożliwią efektywne wykorzystanie zasobów finansowych przez samorząd, organizacje pozarządowe i prywatnych inwestorów. Badania opierają się na opiniach społeczności miasta Zielona Góra, które zostały zebrane za pomocą warsztatów "placegame" oraz kwestionariuszy.

Synthetic biology is an emerging area of biotechnology for which main applications are in the field of Health and Environment However, it suffers from a lack of adapted CAD tools and methodology in order to fulfill efficiently and quickly the needs of these domains. In this paper, the strong relationship between circuits design in microelectronics and synthetic biology is highlighted. Most of synthesized biodevices behavior can be interpreted and modeled by BioLogic gate. As a consequence, bigger biosystems might be designed using methods and tools borrowed from microelectronics. These similarities lead to an efficient methodology, using microelectronics design flow, tools and methods, which should allow a top-down approach in synthetic biosystem design. The methodology is illustrated on the design of a biosystem (a T-flipflop), using top-down approach and HDL modeling languages. Retrofit and structural design with vibration control devices have been proven repeatedly to be feasible seismic hazard mitigation approach. To control the structural response; supplemental energy dissipation devices have been most commonly used for energy absorption. The passive control system has been successfully incorporated in mid to high rise buildings as an appropriate energy absorbing system to suppress seismic and wind-induced excitation. The considerable theses that are highlighted include vibration control devices, the dynamic behavior of devices; energy dissipation mechanism, devices installation approach and building guidelines for structural analysis and design employing vibration control devices also, design concern that is specific to building with vibration control devices. The following four types of supplemental damping devices have been investigated in this review: metallic devices, friction devices, viscous fluid devices, and viscoelastic devices. Although numerous devices installation techniques available, more precisely, devices installation approaches have been reviewed in this paper, including Analysis and Redesign approach (Lavan A/R), standard placement approach, simplified sequential search algorithm, and Takewaki approach.
