Opis:
Catalase with the commercial catalase name Terminox Ultra is widely used in the textile industry in bleaching processes. This enzyme is used to catalyse the decomposition of residual hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. In this study catalase was kept for about 30 hours in water baths in a temperature range from 35 to 70°C. For the first time, the kinetics of thermal deactivation of this enzyme was examined using an oxygen electrode. Stability of the enzyme depends strongly on temperature and its half-life times are 0.0014 h and 7.6 h, at 35 and 70°C, respectively.

Opis:
This article deals with the modeling of the continuous damage deactivation affected yield surfaces of copper and failure surfaces of mortar, from the viewpoint of continuum damage mechanics. The concept of damage deactivation is adapted to Tresca-Guest and Huber-Mises surfaces and two models are presented: the classical discontinuous one, in which microcracks close instantaneously, and the new continuous one, in which they close gradually. The results for both models are compared and verified in order to achieve the best fitting the experimental data. Detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis of obtained solutions confirms the necessity and correctness of an application of the continuous damage deactivation concept.

The article is devoted to a vital issue for the Polish Armed Forces, namely to the containment and elimination of contaminations. The main factors which are likely to cause the direct or indirect release of hazardous substances and the emergence of contaminations in the territory of the Republic of Poland (RP) include military operations, disasters and technical failures in industrial facilities, as well as terrorism. The containment and elimination of contamination is an element of the WMD defense system, in which the combat capability of the army’s troops, equipment and military technology is restored after a contamination. The most important element of the system is the immediate elimination of contamination, as it can affect the health, and often also the life, of the contaminated. The doctrinal document DD/3.8(A) contains the main principles for immediate containment, the main one being “as soon as possible”. It is important to be aware that the so-called insulating protective clothing does not provide adequate protection for the skin and uniforms. At the same time, it can be a source of secondary contamination. Technical equipment comprising individual packages will suffice, but the Polish Armed Forces should acquire one IPLS-type decontamination package with pharmacological agents and a new skin disinfectant. Such solutions are preferred in NATO armies.

Opis:
The thermal stability of enzyme-based biosensors is crucial in economic feasibility. In this study, thermal deactivation profiles of catalase Aspergillus niger were obtained at different temperatures in the range of 35° C to 70° C. It has been shown that the thermal deactivation of catalase Aspergillus niger follows the first-order model. The half-life time t 1/2 of catalase Aspergillus niger at pH 7.0 and the temperature of 35° C and 70° C were 197 h and 1.3 h respectively. Additionally, t 1/2 of catalase Aspergillus niger at the temperature of 5° C was calculated 58 months. Thermodynamic parameters the change in enthalpy ΔH*, the change in entropy ΔS* and the change Gibbs free energy ΔG* for the deactivation of catalase at different temperatures in the range of 35° C to 70° C were estimated. Catalase Aspergillus niger is predisposed to be used in biosensors by thermodynamics parameters obtained.

Opis:
The polycyclic nitramine 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12- hexaazaisowurtzitane (HNIW, CL-20) is synthesized via hydrodebenzylation of 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexabenzyl-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane (HBIW) over a palladium-based catalyst. This process is the key step in the synthesis of CL-20, a compound with unique energetic and explosive characteristics. The use of CL-20 is restricted at present by the high cost of the hydrodebenzylation process, during which the palladium-based catalyst becomes rapidly deactivated. The catalyst deactivation has now been shown to consist of deposition of the reaction products on the carbon support with simultaneous blocking of the active centers by these products. The HBIW decomposition products can permanently combine with palladium, thereby reducing the number of the active centers on the catalyst. Other byproducts clog the pores of the active carbon and reduce both the surface area of the active carbon and the pore volume. The reaction yield is also reduced by aggregation of palladium particles. A palladium catalyst regeneration procedure which has now been developed, consists of heating the catalyst for a specific time at 350 °C in a nitrogen and water vapour stream, and allows partial recovery of the activity of the palladium catalyst in a subsequent HBIW hydrodebenzylation reaction. The specific area and overall pore volume of the regenerated catalyst are also enhanced. The yield from the HBIW hydrodebenzylation reaction using the regenerated catalyst was ca. 42%.

The process of cathodic evolution of hydrogen at metal (or composite) electrodes is one of the most widely studied electrochemical reactions. It has important technological significance in the fields of fuel-cell and battery development. Nickel-coated carbon fibre (NiCCF) offers an attractive, large surface-area catalyst material for the process of cathodic evolution of hydrogen. Such composite materials could potentially be used to produce large area, woven cathodes for the generation of H2 in commercial electrolysers. Kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at commercially available NiCCF material (Toho-Tenax fibre) were studied in 30 wt.% KOH solution, at room temperature over the cathodic overpotential range: -100 to - 500 mV/RHE. Significance of the cathode deactivation effect (in relation to the corresponding values of the charge-transfer resistance and the cathode potential parameters) upon continuous alkaline water electrolysis has also been discussed.

Compared with the monometallic palladium, bimetallic Pd-Au/SiO2 catalysts show much higher activity and better stability in the reaction of hydrodechlorination of tetrachloromethane, also providing higher selectivity to longer than methane hydrocarbon products. Reasonably mixed Pd-Au particles show better catalytic performance during ~60 h operation, whereas the monometallic palladium and very rich in palladium catalysts suffer rapid deactivation. Smaller amounts of carbon- and chlorine-containing deposits found after reaction on Pd-Au catalysts correspond to their superior catalytic behavior.

The problems of process costs and pollution of residual waters in the textile industry require increasing attention due to the new ecological regulations and also those resulting from an economic point of view. Hence, the behavior of non-isothermal fixed-bed reactor applied for hydrogen peroxide decomposition by immobilized Terminox Ultra catalase attached onto the outer surface of glass beads was studied to determine the operational conditions at which hydrogen peroxide decomposition is most effectively. A dispersion model for bioreactor applied in this work, and verified experimentally, took into account the coupled mass and heat balances as well as the rate equation for parallel enzyme deactivation. The effect of feed temperature, feed flow rate, feed hydrogen peroxide concentration, and diffusional resistances were analysed. In the calculations the global effectiveness factor based on the external mass-transfer model developed previously was employed to properly predict the real bioreactor behavior.

The synthesis of Ti-MCM-41 catalyst was performed. The obtained catalyst was characterized by the following instrumental methods: UV-vis, IR spectroscopy, XRD, and X-ray microanalysis. The activity of the obtained catalyst was tested in the process of allyl alcohol epoxidation with 30 wt.% hydrogen peroxide in methanol as a solvent and under atmospheric pressure. In the next stage, recovery of Ti-MCM-41 catalyst from the post-reaction mixture and its regeneration by washing with appropriate solvents and drying were conducted. In the case of total loss of the activity of the catalyst, calcination of the catalyst was also carried out. The loss of titanium from the structure of Ti-MCM-41 catalyst and a partial collapsing of the structure of this catalyst can be the main reason of the decrease the activity of the catalyst what was manly visible in the decrease of the values of two functions of this process: the allyl alcohol conversion and conversion of hydrogen peroxide to organic compounds.

Opis:
Catalytic exhaust gas aftertreatment devices fitted to combustion engines are susceptible to partial deactivation as their operating time progresses. This includes selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reactors meant for NOx emission control. There are several known deactivation mechanisms of SCR reactors already analyzed in detail in the literature. This paper, however, approaches the analysis of reactor deactivation by comparison of exhaust gas characteristics over repeatable cycle for fresh and aged samples of a SCR reactor for non-road mobile machinery. The research aims to outline which parameters describing the SCR reactor’s performance are most affected by its ageing. In order to do that, fresh and aged samples of the reactor were tested under the Non Road Steady Cycle. The acquired emission results, including concentration traces of particular compounds were analyzed. The specific NOx emission of the aged reactor was significantly higher than that of the fresh one. The NOx conversion efficiency of both reactors was found similar at periods of steady engine operation. It was recognized that during transient conditions the NOx conversion efficiency of the aged reactor was decreased. It was found that the main factor contributing to that phenomenon is the drop in the ammonia storage capacity of the aged SCR sample.

Opis:
On the basis of hydrogen peroxide decomposition process occurring in the bioreactor with fixed-bed of commercial catalase the optimal feed temperature was determined. This feed temperature was obtained by maximizing the time-average substrate conversion under constant feed flow rate and temperature constraints. In calculations, convection-diffusion-reaction immobilized enzyme fixed-bed bioreactor described by a coupled mass and energy balances as well as general kinetic equation for rate of enzyme deactivation was taken into consideration. This model is based on kinetic, hydrodynamic and mass-transfer parameters estimated in earlier work. The simulation showed that in the biotransformation with thermal deactivation of catalase optimal feed temperature is only affected by kinetic parameters for enzyme deactivation and decreases with increasing value of activation energy for deactivation. When catalase undergoes parallel deactivation the optimal feed temperature is strongly dependent on hydrogen peroxide feed concentration, feed flow rate and diffusional resistances expressed by biocatalyst effectiveness factor. It has been shown that the more significant diffusional resistances and the higher hydrogen peroxide conversions, the higher the optimal feed temperature is expected.

The knowledge about nanoaerosols, their potential health effects, their measurement, limitation and administrative-legal treatment has been developed in the last 3 decades in connection with the exhaust gas cleaning of the combustion engines. Nanofiltration, which has thus become known, almost completely eliminates nanoparticles with filters of high durability, high specific filtration areas, and reasonable costs. On the occasion of the Covid pandemic, NanoCleanAir experimentally proved that the viruses in an automotive filter substrate are separated as well as the combustion particles and are also deactivated. To minimize cross exchange of infectious aerosol, new attention must be paid to flow management in ventilated spaces. Digitized flow analysis has also received significant inspiration from engine technology in the past. This paper provides information on some basic investigations and gives valuable advice based on the experimental and numerical results of a retrofitted classroom.
