The aim of the paper was to present the specificity of knowledge management in courier companies as an example of intelligent organizations. Knowledge management is a modern concept that emphasizes using the most valuable resources of enterprises such as employees and it offers conditions for development of knowledge, sharing it, and thinking creatively. The paper presents courier companies as an example of intelligent organizations that use knowledge management in the implementation of courier services. The article presents the results of a survey that identified the use of knowledge in courier companies and analysed the factors that made the surveyed companies become intelligent organizations. The solutions implemented in enterprises that influenced the emergence of a competitive advantage were evaluated. Furthermore, the benefits achieved by the companies surveyed due to knowledge management and the growth of their intelligence were analysed.

The article analyzes the market for postal services on the example of Poland. Then there were presented the advantages of using drones in postal courier services. Next the assumption of conception of using unmanned aerial vehicles in courier services and a procedure of delivery of consignments were presented. Then for the real example of a drone there were conducted the calculation of real flight parameters and the forces effecting on a drone. At the end the economic aspect of using the drones in the courier services was calculated. Based on the results were discussed the usefulness of the use of of drones in courier services. In summary it was concluded that courier deliveries using the drones can be competitive in the future for the traditional methods of delivery. The cost of 1 parcel delivery can be even about 9% lower than so far. Consideration should be given that the prices used to estimate the cost of production machines are retail prices. The mass production of drones can bring savings in production costs in the range of 15-20%. The only element that does not allow to run the project of delivering items using the drones is the battery. The calculations show that at the proposed subassemblies the battery capacity allows only for a 7-minute flight. However, the works on the new sources of supply are conducted - lithium batteries, the anodes of pure lithium, the fuel cells.

The aim of the study is a critical analysis of literature concerning the evaluation of courier service quality and verification if client expectations towards courier service quality change in time considering the perspective of future 5–10 years. Research methods include the theoretical analysis of scientific literature, CAWI survey and statistical analysis of obtained data. The literature overview has shown the lack of clearly defined evaluation constructs of courier service quality together with the criteria and weight, one universal commonly used measuring scale for evaluation of the service quality, diversification of methods and measurement tools for the various groups of stakeholders of courier service. Moreover, it can be concluded that the research concerning the courier service quality has not considered the problem of aging of quality indicators. Research results by the author have proved that the expectations of clients using courier service change in time, some of them are exposed to the aging process (price) while others become more important (for example tele-technologies, modern packaging, and technical facilities). Moreover, the survey results have shown that the customer opinions can be the source of interesting and innovative ideas for the development of courier service in future. The analysis of domestic and foreign literature allowed presenting the academia with an output concerning the evaluation of quality in the field of courier service. As a result, the theoretical and methodological gaps were revealed to expose potential fields for further research. The research results concerning different methods of service quality evaluation can be useful mainly for managers in courier enterprises. Moreover, the knowledge about changing expectations of clients allows adjusting courier proposals to customer needs to gain a competitive advantage in the global market.

The growth of e-commerce has highlighted the importance of express courier service (ECS). We empirically study consumer’s choice of ECS in purchasing goods online. This research aims to examine the effect of service quality (SQ), shipping cost, brand, and attitude towards customers’ intention to choose ECS on e-commerce. This research was conducted using a quantitative approach among customers who intended their goods to be shipped using ECS. Data of 100 respondents were collected and then analyzed using the structural equation model technique. We find that there is no correlation between SQ and shipping cost and the attitude towards choosing a courier service. However, the analysis indicates that brand has an infl uence on the customer’s attitude towards choosing a courier service. Furthermore, the analysis suggests that the consumer’s attitude towards choosing a courier service acts as a mediator between SQ, shipping cost, and brand as regards the consumer’s intention to choose an ECS. It is worth noting that brand has a stronger infl uence on the consumer’s attitude compared to the former factors.

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a well-established, popular, and often used method for efficiency evaluation of units from all sector, both commercial and nonprofit organisations, of any scale of operations. Network DEA models are a relatively recent approach used to examine the efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs) having an internal structure of sub-processes. The article presents the concept of DEA network models in estimating the efficiency of courier and messenger companies with relations to their business clients. The considerations are supported by an example of data concerning leaders from the sector of couriers and messengers in Poland and one of the biggest and most popular online stores. The results are compared with the traditional DEA approach. In addition, to measure reliability for DEA scores, the jackknife procedure was performed. The author proves the usefulness of network DEA as a research and management tool.

Recent years have seen a dynamic growth of ecommerce. This links to technological developments, an increase in the number of people who have access to and actively use the Internet, and the use of mobile devices. The aim of the paper is to present the results of a questionnaire survey of the factors behind the development of e-commerce services. In an analysis of the factors behind the development of e-commerce services, note should be made of the customer’s needs which will be the core of their opinions. The paper analyses factors of development of e-commerce services such as: frequency of internet shopping, logistic aspects of e-commerce services, and the criteria for the evaluation of quality of e-commerce services based on customer satisfaction. The five aspects of logistics in e-commerce taken into consideration included reliability of the supply, completeness of the supply, shipping price, delivery time, and the choice of courier company. Besides, the paper defines the interdependence between the frequency of internet shopping and the logistic aspects of e-commerce. A hierarchy is also established of the degree of satisfaction as regards the quality criteria of e-commerce services. The analysis covers data from a questionnaire survey of 100 customers using ecommerce in Poland. The respondents were customers using e-commerce services aged between 20 and 24. The questionnaire was based on a five-point Likert-type scale of between 1 and 5. The survey was qualitative and nationwide. The analysis was done using the Statistica 10 software. The Pearson correlation was chosen from amongst the methods available to determine the impact between the surveyed variables. Firms that provide e-commerce services aim to fulfil the ever increasing needs and expectations of their customers. They attach a lot of importance to the quality of customer service which is demonstrated by the high scores awarded by the respondents.

The outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic has resulted in significant changes in employers' attitudes to employee health safety, as a new rapidly spreading threat has emerged. A characteristic feature of this threat is very little knowledge about it and the lack of effective treatments and prevention procedures. The short time since the outbreak of the pandemic also means that there is very little knowledge about how employers try to protect employees from infection with this virus, as well as how effective these actions are and how employees evaluate them. Therefore, among couriers of UPS companies in Poland and Germany a survey of the satisfaction was undertaken regarding the solutions adopted and implemented by managers in the field of shaping the health safety of employees. The survey uses the modified Customer Satisfaction Index - CSI method, for which employees were treated as internal customers. As a result of the research, it was possible to compare employee satisfaction with the solutions used by managers to protect their health in Poland and Germany, and shape conclusions resulting from this study.

The paper aims to present logistics solutions in Poland’s e-commerce market using the example of the rapidly growing InPost SA Group. The group’s development strategy focuses on the e-commerce market and the expansion of services including innovative solutions. The subject literature, and documents and information provided by the research subject, the InPost SA, are the sources used in this study. The paper presents the specificities of the e-commerce sector, especially courier services, express and parcel deliveries. Receivers of shipments in the e-commerce market are a demanding group of customers, who continually pressure the courier market operators to expand their range of services. The study also identifies drivers of competitive advantage in the changing logistics services sector associated with e-commerce.
