Opis:
The gap waveguide technology is a new technique used for designing and fabricating microwave components, ensuring a low-loss and easy fabrication process, especially at high frequencies, and allowing for the production of multilayer structures due to the lack of requirement of an electrical connection between the metal layers of the waveguide structure. This paper presents the design and areas of implementation of single-hole and multi-hole 20 dB Bethe couplers, using the groove gap waveguide (GGW) technology for Ku band. Simulation results show that the operating bandwidth of the proposed design is over 40% wider, and its isolation rate is more than 25 dB higher. By using the multi hole configuration, a bandwidth that is more than 59% wider and the isolation rate of over 30 dB may be obtained.

A stripline waveguide with double-side UC-PBG pattern is considered. To verify usefulness of the stripline structure with UC-PBG a 3 dB coupler has been designed and fabricated. Reduction of the coupler size (due to slow wave effect) has been predicted and observed. Numerical and experimental investigation confirmed enhanced backward coupling phenomena.

In the paper, a procedure for precise and expedited design optimization of unequal power split patch couplers is proposed. Our methodology aims at identifying the coupler dimensions that correspond to the circuit operating at the requested frequency and featuring a required power split. At the same time, the design process is supposed to be computationally efficient. The proposed methodology involves two types of auxiliary models (surrogates): an inverse one, constructed from a set of reference designs optimized for particular power split values, and a forward one which represents the circuit S-parameter gradients as a function of the power split ratio. The inverse model directly yields the values of geometry parameters of the coupler for any required power split, whereas the forward model is used for a post-scaling correction of the circuit characteristics. For the sake of illustration, a 10-GHz circular sector patch coupler is considered. The power split ratio of the structure is re-designed within a wide range of -6 dB to 0 dB. As demonstrated, precise scaling (with the power split error smaller than 0.02 dB and the operating frequency error not exceeding 0.05 GHz) can be achieved at the cost of less than three full-wave EM simulations of the coupler. Numerical results are validated experimentally.

In this work a division of coupler plane of the crank-rocker four-bar linkage has been presented. This division is made by means of four curves: moving centrode, constant centrode, moving curve of rotation centres and constant curve of rotation centres. The method of determining these curves has been discussed. Assuming the coupler points in some region of the coupler plane can determine the coupler curves with characteristic points. This article presents some examples of these curves.
W pracy przedstawiono badania płaszczyzny łącznikowej korbowo-wahaczowego czworoboku przegubowego. Podziału płaszczyzny łącznikowej dokonano wykorzystując następujące krzywe: centrodie ruchomą i stałą oraz ruchomą i stałą krzywą środków obrotu. Sposób otrzymywania tych krzywych zaprezentowano w pracy. W wyniku podziału płaszczyzny łącznikowej uzyskano obszary, w których punkty łącznikowe wykreślają krzywe łącznikowe z punktami charakterystycznymi. Przykłady tych krzywych zamieszczono w pracy.

This work is devoted to the plotting of coupler curves in the environment of graphical programs. As there is a large variety of shapes, for the purpose of this study, the authors selected those curves that feature a cusp form. In the research, two software programs were used, i.e., AutoCAD and Rhinoceros with the Grasshopper plug-in. Two types of curves were defined: a fixed and a moving centrode, in which the points of the moving centrode define the coupler curves whose cusps are located on the fixed centrode. In conclusion, two design tools were compared and the curves in question were discussed in detail.

In this paper, a theoretical design of a novel passive optical line protection device for fiber to the home networks is presented and discussed. Such a device has been designed to overcome several issues of the conventional optical line protection which is based on a switching mechanism controlled electronically. The proposed design is suitable for multiplexed passive optical networks, especially, the dense wavelength division multiplexing technology. This unit is installed at both ends of the network and is composed of a 1×2 splitter to deliver the transmitted multiplexed signal to 2 optical paths and a 2×1 (99.9/0.1) coupler allowing an automatic control when a problem appears. Two optical line protection units exchange optical data through 2 dual fibers. In the case where the primary link suffers from a transmission problem, it automatically switches without any electronic control whatsoever to the backup link through a passive (99.9/0.1) coupler with an average total loss estimated to be of 3.2 dB.

We present an optical signal coupling scheme for slab waveguide surface grating coupler sensors. The proposed solution is based on the use of polymer microlenses. In this work we analyze two types of compact polymer lenses: the aspheric plano-convex lenses and Fresnel lenses. The feasibility of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by the experimental investigation into the optical signal coupling to the test structure of TiO2-SiO2 slab waveguide surface grating coupler using both types of lenses.

In this paper, we investigate how data transmissions may be affected by various types of optical interference introduced into the fiber on purpose, via a clip-on coupler. The research proved that transmissions may be jammed completely using inexpensive equipment readily available on the market, provided that the attacker has physical access to the fiber optic cable. The most dangerous attacks rely on a typical, slowly modulated communication laser with a rectangular waveform. This study urges further research aimed at counteracting such attacks.

A compact temperature measuring device using a weakly coupled multi-core fibre in the Michelson interferometer structure is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The device is manufactured by an easy and simple splicing approach which consists of a multi-core fibre segment and an in-fibre coupler. In-fibre coupler is made of a cascaded single-mode fibre and multi-core fibre balls. It enhances the interference phenomenon of light nergy between the central core and the outer cores of a multi-core fibre. The sensor shows a high quality fringe visibility of about 14–18 dB in the wavelength spectrum. Multi-core structure presents multi-path interferences and exhibits a maximum temperature sensitivity of 70.6 pm/°C in the range of 20–90°C with an insensitive response to the refractive index in the range of 1.334 to 1.354. The device has the advantages of compact size, easy manufacturing, and it solves cross-sensitivity between temperature and refractive index making it an authentic real-time temperature monitoring solution.

The paper is dedicated to the kinematic synthesis of dwell linkage mechanisms on the basis of the four-bar linkage. As known, to obtain the dwell of the output link, linkage mechanisms can be used and they have a number of advantages in comparison with other types of mechanisms. Using the kinematic geometry methods, special points of the mechanism’s coupler plane can be found. One of these points is Burmester point and it enables to synthesize four-bar linkages which coupler point traces the curve, a part of which is approximately close to the arc of the circle. By joining the additional structural group, dwell linkage mechanism can be designed. But the problem is to find such parameters of the mechanism which allow designing dwell linkages with a given duration of the dwell. Using the presented numerical and analytical method, this problem was solved; the samples of reference diagrams for the synthesis are also presented in the article. The method enables to carry out kinematic synthesis of dwell mechanisms, taking into account a number of other parameters, such as the length of the links, maximum displacement of the output link, dwell exactitude etc.

This paper presents a technique of decoupling differential signals transmitted in a pair of microstrip lines on a printed circuit board (PCB), using dedicated coupler for high speed data transmission monitoring in chip-to-chip interconnections. The coupler used for signal probing is overlayed on the pair of microstrip lines under test, and provides a signal to the next blocks of the measurement system without disturbing transmission in the lines. Starting from the basic configuration obtained in the previous work, we describe a procedure of re-designing the coupler for enhanced directivity so that it is suitable for high-speed data transmission monitoring. The new coupler structure has improved topology based on stepped-impedance resonators with geometry parameters adjusted using numerical optimization techniques. The correctness of the design has been confirmed by the time-domain measurements performed for real chip-to-chip communication signals, using a dedicated measurement system based on Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA Development Kit. The presented technology can be used for reducing the cost of the product diagnostics by eliminating dedicated measurement connectors, run-time system debugging or reverse engineering.

The paper presents a wideband nine-port reflectometer realized as a cascade connection of six- and five-port reflectometers. It is shown that such a solution allows for a convenient adjustment of circuits’ parameters in order to provide significantly reduced measurement uncertainty with respect to other reported reflectometers. Simultaneously, the proposed network features a simple and flexible design. For the experimental verification, the proposed nine-port reflectometer has been manufactured and incorporated into the system intended for reflection coefficient measurements within the frequency range 2.5 - 3.5 GHz. The obtained results are in an excellent agreement with the values measured using a commercial VNA.

The purpose of this article is to present a coupler developed for the calibration of hydrophones at low frequencies in the Central Office of Measures (GUM). Due to the growing demand for marine environment research in the field of underwater noise, implemented in accordance with Directive 2008/56/EC, many models of autonomous underwater noise recorders have been developed. Ensuring the reliability of recorded data begins with the reliable calibration of hydrophones and/or the entire recorder. The choice of the calibration method was made on the basis of a detailed and broad analysis of calibration methods and similar solutions of coupling constructs worldwide. The analysis mainly took into account the documents of the last few years. On the basis of this analysis, the vibrating water column method was chosen and the construction of the coupler was developed. Regular calibration of hydrophones will contribute to reliable underwater noise monitoring in the Baltic region.

This paper presents the analysis of the effect of differential signal coupler positioning accuracy on its high frequency performance parameters for contact-less high speed chip-to-chip data transmission on PCB application. Our considerations are continuation of the previous works on differential signal coupler concept, design methodology and analysis for high speed data transmission monitoring. The theoretical analysis of possible coupler positioning innaccuracies is extended for representative design cases by simulations carried out using EM simulator. The results reported here confirm that the concept of contactless monitoring of high speed chip-to-chip data transmission in a pair of coupled microstrip lines is of practically usefulness without applying the expensive and precise positioning system.
