We show that the global non-linear stability threshold for convection in a double-diffusive couplestress fluid saturating a porous medium is exactly the same as the linear instability boundary. The optimal result is important because it shows that linearized instability theory has captured completely the physics of the onset of convection. It is also found that couple-stress fluid saturating a porous medium is thermally more stable than the ordinary viscous fluid, and the effects of couple-stress parameter (F ) , solute gradient (S f ) and Brinkman number (Da ) on the onset of convection is also analyzed.

This article deals with the study of a thermoelastic nanobeam in a modified couple stress theory subjected to ramp-type heating. The mathematical model is prepared for the nanobeam in thermoelastic three-phase-lag. The Laplace transform and the eigenvalue approach are used to find the displacement component, lateral deflection, temperature change and axial stress of the thermoelastic beam. The general algorithm of the inverse Laplace transform is developed to compute results numerically. The comparison of three-phase-lag, dual-phaselag and GN-III (1993) models are represented, and their illustration is depicted graphically. This study finds the applications in engineering, medical science, sensors, etc.

Shear wave based acoustic devices are being used in gaseous and liquid environments because of their high-sensitivity. The theoretical study of horizontally polarized shear (SH) waves in a layered structure consisting of a piezoelectric ceramic of P ZT − 5H or BaT iO3 material overlying a couple stress substrate is presented in this paper. The considered substrate is supposed to be exhibiting microstructural properties. The closed form expression of dispersion relations are derived analytically for electrically open and short conditions. The effects of internal microstructures of the couple stress substrate, thickness of P ZT − 5H or BaT iO3 ceramic, piezoelectric and dielectric constants are illustrated graphically on the phase velocity of the piezoelectric layer under electrically open and short conditions.

We examine the contribution of married and cohabited women and men to the joint income of the couple. We use individual income data from Household Budget Surveys for Poland in 2011 from a sample of 16,538 married and cohabited couples. The results of analysis show that contribution of men to total household income is higher than contribution of their female partners through the life cycle, controlling for type of a couple, education levels of genders and number of children. The contribution of married and cohabited women to total income of the couple remains almost flat during the life cycle.

The article outlines the results of academic endeavors to develop a Polish adaptation of Stephen Haynes’ and colleagues Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire For Older Persons (MSQFOP). The results obtained using the Polish version are comparable to those obtained using the original research instrument, which proves that the Polish MSQFOP scale adaptation can be successfully used for research purposes. The scale consists of 24 items covering four dimensions: Communication and expression of feelings, Sex life, Health and Affiliation. The scale testing procedure involved a research sample consisting of 832 people. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was .94 for the entire scale and oscillated between .68 and .94 for the subscales.
W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki prac nad polską adaptacją Kwestionariusza Satysfakcji z Małżeństwa dla Osób Starszych (The Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire For Older Persons) MSQFOP autorstwa S. N. Haynesa i współpracowników. Przedstawiono właściwości psychometryczne polskiej wersji MSQFOP. Otrzymane rezultaty są porównywalne z danymi dla wersji oryginalnej narzędzia i potwierdzają, że polska wersja kwestionariusza MSQFOP może mieć zastosowanie w badaniach naukowych. Kwestionariusz składa się z 24 itemów tworzących cztery wymiary: Komunikacja/Wyrażanie uczuć, Pożycie seksualne, Zdrowie, Afiliacja. Skala przetestowana została w badaniach 832 osób. Wskaźnik rzetelności (α-Cronbacha) dla całej skali wynosi 0,94 a w odniesieniu do poszczególnych podskal waha się od 0,68 do 0,94.

Childhood sexual abuse is a traumatic experience, the consequences of which are numerous in adult intimate relationships. Couples often have problems in maintaining their relationships and frequently face problems in their sexual life. Because of the consequences that they experience and which they usually do not attribute to past trauma, couples increasingly seek therapeutic help. A safe therapeutic relationship enables the formation of new neural connections and a change in relational structures. Identifying and understanding the consequences of sexual abuse with elements of dual awareness is essential for the partnership and healing of both partners. The purpose of the article is to deepen the understanding of the consequences of childhood sexual abuse for couple relationships according to the Relational Marital Therapy paradigm.

Dispersion curves employed for designing Love wave based liquid sensing devices may provide more accurate information if due consideration is given to parameters describing microstructural behavior of the substrate. The present study involves mathematical modelling of Love waves propagating in a hybrid structure consisting of an elastic layer in the middle overlying a size dependent substrate, loaded with a viscous liquid (Newtonian) half space. Numerical computations are carried out to graphically demonstrate the effects of various parameters: characteristic length of the substrate, thickness of the elastic layer, viscosity and density of the overlying viscous liquid (Newtonian) on dispersion characteristics.

This paper highlights tool wear mechanisms in the machining of heat resistance alloys including nickel-based Inconel 718 alloy which is one of the most popular material in the aircraft industry. Special attention was paid to the notch wear which develops on the flank face due to high temperature oxidation of the cutting tool material at temperature of about 800°C. The experimental procedure includes the diffusion couple methods and tool wear tests which assess the degradation of the deposited coating. The obtained results were supported by SEM images of the flank face periphery and EDS analysis performed in the regions of intensive oxidation. Some conclusions and ongoing research on the investigation of the oxidation phenomenon of cutting tool materials are outlined.

In this paper, the effect of magnetic field on thermal convection in couple-stress fluid saturating a porous medium is considered. By applying linear stability theory and the normal mode analysis method, a mathematical theorem is derived which states that the viscoelastic thermal convection at marginal state, cannot manifest as stationary convection if the thermal Rayleigh number R, the medium permeability parameter Pι the couple-stress parameter F and the Chandrasekher number Q, satisfy the inequality R ≤4π2/Pl (1 + 2π2F + PlQ/2ε) the result clearly establishes the stabilizing character of couple-stress parameter and magnetic field whereas destabilizing character of medium permeability.

Opis:
Bone loss is one of the serious health issues in bedridden patients or young generation due to lack of physical activities. Mechanical forces are exerted on the bones through ground reaction forces, liquid loadings and by other contraction activities of the muscles. We are assuming an isotropic half-space with mechanical properties equivalent to that of bone exhibiting microstructures. Consistent couple stress theory introduces an additional material parameter called characteristic length which accounts for inner microstructure of the material. Dispersion relations for leaky Rayleigh waves are derived by considering a model consisting of couple stress half space under the effects of gravity and loaded with inviscid liquid layer of finite thickness or a liquid half space. Impact of the gravity, liquid loadings and microstructures of the material are investigated on propagation of leaky Rayleigh type waves. Phase velocity of leaky Rayleigh waves is studied for five different values of characteristic length parameter which are of the order of internal cell size of the considered material. Variations in phase velocity of leaky Rayleigh waves are also studied under the effect of gravity parameter and thickness of liquid loadings.

The paper deals with propagation of SH waves in a viscoelastic layer over a couple stress substrate with imperfect bonding at the interface. A dispersion equation of SH waves in a viscoelastic layer overlying the couple stress substrate with an imperfect interface between them has been obtained. Dispersion equations for propagation of SH waves with perfectly bonded interface and slippage interface between two media are also obtained as particular cases. Effects of the degree of imperfectness of the interface are studied on the phase velocity of SH waves. The dispersion curves are plotted and the effects of material properties of both couple stress substrate and viscoelastic layer are studied. The effects of internal microstructures of the couple stress substrate in terms of characteristic length of the material are presented. The effects of heterogeneity, friction parameter and thickness of the viscoelastic layer are also studied on the propagation of SH waves.

For understanding the effects of an internal microstructure, generalised microcontinuum theories with additional microstructural parameters are developed. One such a parameter, called the characteristic length of the material comparable with the internal cell size of the material is involved in the couple stress theory. The problem of propagation of Lamb waves in a plate with an internal microstructure and loaded with an inviscid liquid on both sides is studied using the couple stress theory. The dispersion equation of Lamb waves with the liquid loadings is derived. The impact of the liquid loadings is studied on the propagation of Lamb waves. The effect of the characteristic length is also studied on the phase velocity of Lamb waves in the plate for various modes in the presence of liquid loadings.

Since the outbreak of the Euro crisis in 2010 the European Union seems to tumble from one crisis to the next: From Arab spring to the Ukraine conflict, from Syrian civil war to the refugee crisis. So far the EU members did not find a way out of these crises. Although in times when all EU partners seem to be paralyzed by an aversion of strengthening the EU institutions they might be forced working closer together anyway. Against the background of a general loss of orientation inside the EU this article takes a closer look at the handling of the Euro crisis. It discusses whether revived Franco-German leadership inside Europe might be an option to give orientation to all EU members. Starting with a brief review of the strengths of this bilateral couple during the initial phase of European integration it is the aim to detect its unique capability to lead the EU out of European crises. Since Germans and French after serious disputes and despite different economic interests managed to work together for European solutions, both might be a role model for all EU members. The way the governments in Berlin and Paris overcame their differences during the Euro crisis delivers insights for all EU partners to cope with the structural economic imbalances.

This paper develops a cracked nanobeam model and presents buckling analysis of this developed model based on a modified couple stress theory. The Timoshenko beam theory and simply supported boundary conditions are considered. This nonclassical model contains a material length scale parameter and can interpret the size effect. The cracked nanobeam is modeled as two segments connected by two equivalent springs (longitudinal and rotational). This model promotes discontinuity in rotation of the beam and additionally considers discontinuity in longitudinal displacement due to presence of the crack. Therefore, this multi-spring model can consider coupled effects between the axial force and bending moment at the cracked section. The generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method is employed to discretize the governing differential equations, boundary and continuity conditions. The influences of crack location, crack severity, material length scale parameter and flexibility constants of the presented spring model on the critical buckling load are studied.
