Opis:
Mathematical model of high-efficiency ceramic recuperators using the new generation of shapes was elaborated. The parameters and characteristics magnesia, fusion cast alumina-mullite-zirconia, chamotte recuperator shapes were compared. Ceramic recuperator to glass tank was calculated by the model.
Opracowano model matematyczny wysokosprawnych rekuperatorów ceramicznych wykonanych z nowej generacji kształtek. Porównano parametry i charakterystyki kształtek rekuperatorowych: magnezjowych - topionych, oraz korundowo-mulitowo-cyrkonowych i szamotowych - odlewanych. Według opracowanego modelu zaprojektowano rekuperator ceramiczny do wanny szklarskiej.

In this article, the model for prediction of diesel fuel consumption by railbuses is presented. In order to create the model, the results of measurements of the average fuel consumption of eight dual mode railbuses of type X (manufactured by the same producer) are used. The usefulness of the indicators method in additive and multiplicative version is assessed. For both models, the percentage share of the trend, seasonality, and irregular (random) components are analysed and the results for the multiplicative version are given.

In the automotive industry in the world continuously being sought universal driving cycle. The test should closely match the fuel consumption and emissions of toxins in the fumes of the test vehicle in its real operating conditions [4]. However, in the previously developed solid driving tests established velocity profiles differ significantly from actual driving conditions. The difference in fuel consumption, comparing the natural operation of the NEDC test reaches an average of 18%. The new version of the driving cycle should be more realistic to the everyday use of additional equipment and gadgets that are installed in modern vehicles [1]. The impact on fuel consumption by vehicles may be conditioned not only by its size and weight, but also by the geometry of the track motion, forces causing the motion and the forces acting on the car when driving on curved tracks. The vehicle encounters and overcomes all the forces that act on it while driving-resistance movement. In the energy intake through the vehicle runs in the motor changes at the expense of the energy of fuel consumed. The driving force performs work on a given stretch of road balancing (predominant) friction. On the basis of the calculated resistance movement and the energy consumption of the movement in the selected object was a comparison of the actual consumption of fuel in the vehicle with the ignition spark. Analysis was performed and found differences in three cycles: urban, extra-urban and combined.

Owners of vessels are interested in the lowest possible operating costs. These costs are mainly related to fuel consumption during navigation. To manage it rationally, the main decision-making problem is selecting the proper parameters of the ship’s propulsion system during navigation. In practice, operators of ships equipped with controllable pitch propellers controlled in manual mode make a selection of the commanded outputs based on their own knowledge, intuition, and all accessible information regarding sea conditions. In many cases, their decisions are unreasonable or incorrect. Therefore, it would be desirable to support their decision-making in selecting the commanded outputs. For this reason, we have decided to develop a decision support system in the form of an expert system. This computer-aided system supports the selection of the commanded outputs of the ship’s propulsion system. The most important component of this system is the two-criteria optimization model, allowing the rational management of the ship fuel consumption and navigation time.

Opis:
Nowadays, in civil aviation, issues related to improving efficiency, reducing the costs of air operations as well as the negative impact of air transport on the environment are of increasing importance. These ideas allow the formulation of the paradigm relating to the development of air transport - ‘more Efficiently, more Economically, more Eco-friendly - 3E’. The article presents in a cross-sectional and synthetic way research conducted by leading scientific centres around the world as well as prototype aviation constructions designed by companies from the aviation industry. Benefits and disadvantages of future propulsions, such as purely electric, hybrid and distributed propulsions, were presented. Conclusions were formulated regarding further possible directions of civil aviation development, taking into account the improvement of its efficiency as well as economic and ecological indicators.

Deterioration in the performance of gas turbines is a well-known phenomenon occurring during their operation. The most important form is a decrease in the internal efficiency of the compressor and turbine due to fouling, which is the most significant deterioration problem for an operator. This article presents the effect of gas turbine fouling as a drop in airflow, pressure ratio, and compressor efficiency resulting in a reduction in power output and thermal efficiency. This resulted in a decrease in the nominal power of a gas turbine and an increase in the fuel consumption (heat rate). The fouling effects were described using the example of the MT30 marine gas turbine with a nominal power of 36 MW. The estimated profit loss during the operation of the gas turbine was within the range of 1–10% of the total fuel consumption cost. A 2% deterioration in the output of a gas turbine accounted for US$ 10,000–20,000 per year and 1 MW of gas turbine nominal power (according to marine fuel prices in 2019–2020) – this means at least US$ 300,000 annually for an MT30. Due to the low accuracy of fuel consumption measurements, another possibility was provided. The correlation between the gas turbine power deterioration and thermal efficiency was presented, which made it possible to estimate the increase in the specific and total fuel consumption when the nominal power deterioration is known. Two linear approximations were proposed to calculate increases in the annual operating costs for an MT30 due to fouling.

The objective of this research project was to determine the percentage impact of dry-medium air filter being used in Fiat Multijet 1.3 JTD engine on its operational properties (engine flexibility and specific fuel consumption). Experiments were performed according to the requirements of research methods specified in the piston combustion engine standard in force. In order to make comparisons, operational parameters of the power unit (torque, effective power and specific fuel consumption) were measured with dry-medium air filter (with a new filter element) being fitted and with air filter being removed. Each point of respective characteristic curves was determined based on four measurements as their mean value. Also boost pressure, which could be of importance for results, was considered in the experiments. However, the degree of EGR valve lift, the operation of which could also appear to be important, was not taken into account. For each measuring point of respective characteristic curves, the ranges of measurement uncertainties were determined. Expanded standard uncertainties were calculated based on the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. The experiments being carried out allowed concluding that the engine with air filter was less flexible by approx. 20% when compared to that without air filter, whereas its specific fuel consumption was greater by approx. 9%. The degree of air filter pollution affects its flow resistance and, which is related to this, engine torque and its effective power as well as its flexibility decrease but fuel consumption increases

The number of vehicles in the world is growing rapidly. Therefore, the global consumption of crude oil is increasing and its natural resources are being depleted. It causes the rise of oil fuel cost. Constantly rising energy prices and emironmental concerns have made energy saving the highest priority for transportation operators. The main goal of vehicles' operation is economy. The fuel consumption of the most popular internal combustion engines depends on various factors, and one of the most important of them is thermal condition. Energy or fuel saving is the main way to reduce operational expenses of vehicles. This paper aims to investigate fuel consumption of 1.9 liter volume direct injection diesel engine and to construct a diagram of the dependence of the amount of smoke in exhaust on the temperature of engine's operation. The temperature was fixed in the engine's crankcase, while the temperature of cooling liquid was measured at four points as well as during the engine's bench testing. Unexpected test results are obtained: when the temperature of exhaust gases rises above 70-75 °C, the amount of smoke increases by a few times. Finally, basic conclusions and recommendations are given.

The article discusses the issue of the impact of wind force and direction on fuel consumption and the emission of harmful exhaust gases on the selected flight route. The focus was on percentage changes in fuel consumption and emissions of individual harmful exhaust gas compounds depending on the wind speed and the direction from which it interacts with the aircraft. The analysis was carried out for three different flight levels, in order to compare changes in fuel consumption and emissions also in terms of flight altitude, however the following article focuses only on one level - FL240.

Opis:
Fluctuating fuel prices and the importance of road transport in the context of the environmental impact of transport make the research related to fuel consumption analyses still up‑ to‑ date and socially important. The article presents the methodology for determining the statistical model of fuel consumption based on the analysis of the significance of driving parameters. The fleet of trucks (sets of tractor truck and semi‑ trailer) was selected as the research object due to their dominant share in the road commercial transport sector in the transport of goods. In order to calculate determinants of fuel consumption, the classic method of least squares was used, as a result of which an optimal statistical model of fuel consumption was developed using the elimination method. The model developed was also verified based on the real data.
Zmienne ceny paliw oraz znaczenie transportu drogowego w kontekście oddziaływania środowiskowego transportu powodują, że badania związane z analizami zużycia paliwa są ciągle aktualne i istotne społecznie. W artykule przedstawiono metodologię wyznaczania modelu statystycznego zużycia paliwa na podstawie analizy istotności parametrów jazdy. Jako obiekt badań wybrano flotę samochodów ciężarowych (zastawów ciągnik siodłowy i naczepa) z uwagi na ich dominujący udział w sektorze drogowego transportu zarobkowego w przewozie ładunków. W celu wyznaczenia determinant zużycia paliwa zastosowano klasyczną metodę najmniejszych kwadratów, w efekcie której opracowano, metodą eliminacji, optymalny model statystyczny zużycia paliwa. Przeprowadzono także weryfikację opracowanego modelu na podstawie danych rzeczywistych

The paper presents a proposal of a description of the operating conditions of diesel-electric locomotives. The proposal is a result of the operational experience and the analysis of the locomotive operation. It constitutes a significant simplification in relation to the descriptions currently used by domestic carriers. The paper also presents examples of analyses of the operating conditions of locomotives using the proposed method.
W pracy przedstawiono propozycję opisu warunków eksploatacji lokomotyw spalinowych z przekładniami elektrycznymi. Propozycja ta jest wynikiem doświadczeń eksploatacyjnych przy analizie pracy lokomotyw i jest łatwiejsza w użyciu niż opisy wykorzystywane aktualnie przez krajowych przewoźników. Przedstawiono również przykłady analizy warunków eksploatacji lokomotyw spalinowych według zaproponowanej metody ich opisu.

The paper presents the causes and effects of corrosion, destructively affecting the technical condition and operational reliability of injectors used in Common Rail supply systems. In addition, the analysis was made regarding damage to compression-ignition (diesel) engines with common-rail supply systems occurring in the operation of injectors caused by external and internal operating factors. Studies on injection equipment wear were carried out with the use of Hitachi S-3400 scanning electron microscope. Photos were also taken at the repair workshop of the needle surface and the socket using D.O. Smart digital microscope with specialized fibre optic lighting. Worn components were analyzed, indicating the elements most frequently subject to destructive processes. The possibilities of diagnosing subassemblies of Common Rail injection systems were indicated.
W artykule przedstawiono przyczyny i skutki korozji, wpływającej destrukcyjnie na stan techniczny oraz niezawodność eksploatacyjną wtryskiwaczy stosowanych w układach zasilania Common Rail. Ponadto dokonano analizy uszkodzeń silników o zapłonie samoczynnym z układami zasilania typu Common Rail występujących w pracy wtryskiwaczy spowodowanymi zewnętrznymi i wewnętrznymi czynnikami eksploatacyjnymi. Przeprowadzono badania zużyć aparatury wtryskowej z zastosowaniem skaningowego mikroskopu elektronowego Hitachi S-3400. Wykonano również zdjęcia w serwisie zajmującym się naprawą powierzchni iglicy i gniazda mikroskopem cyfrowym D.O. Smart ze specjalistycznym oświetleniem światłowodowym. Analizie poddano zużyte części składowe, wskazując na elementy najczęściej ulegające procesom niszczącym. Wskazano na możliwości diagnozowania podzespołów układów wtryskowych Common Rail.

Opis:
Unavailability of a ship propulsion system under aging effects and proper maintenance is estimated using GO-FLOW. GO-FLOW is an effective software tool for the unavailability analysis of complex systems. Aging effects are incorporated into GO-FLOW using a time-dependent technique and assuming a linear aging model. The results show that the aging effects and improper maintenance can potentially increase the frequency of accidents due to a malfunction of the propulsion system by a factor of three.
