Opis:
Researches provided on University of Warsaw Geology Department uses a 3D scanner to make advanced analysis of quartz crystals found on different places on Earth. Quartz crystals are formed in the same process for millions of years. They usually grow in regions of active volcanoes and earthquakes. Their final shape and color depend from number of external factors such as for example pressure, and temperature. Precise 3D scan of quartz crystals made with sub millimeter accuracy gives scientists unique possibilities of researching the condition under which the crystal was formed and discovering the earth condition from hundred thousand years ago.

Opis:
A difficulty of freeform surfaces evaluations lies in a setup of a coordinate measuring system in general, when it is not possible to use the standard system of alignment by a point, a line, and a surface. An algorithm for the measurement adjustment using a small workpiece coordinate system movement and rotation to achieve a smaller least square error of the produced surface for a given freeform surface defined by the function of two variables is considered. The algorithm uses the Newton method for calculation of the orthogonal distance of a measured point to a given surface and also for minimization of the sum of the distance squares. Numerical results for an example are given.

Opis:
The paper presents information on manufacturing processes of plastic components. Basic subtractive and additive methods are described. There were also manufactured elements of fan housing by using this two types of methods. Then, the elements were measured using a touch probe. The obtained results were analyzed, on which a comparison of components’ geometric accuracy was performed.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of comparative analysis of modeling accuracy the freeform surface constructed by using a variety of algorithms for surface modeling. Also determined the accuracy of mapping the theoretical freeform surface described by mathematical equation. To model surface objects used: SolidWorks 2012, CATIA v5 and Geomagic Studio 12. During the design process of CAD models were used: profile curves, fitting parametric surface and polygonal mesh. To assess the accuracy of the CAD models used Geomagic Qualify 12. On the basis of analyse defined the scope of application of each modeling techniques depending on the nature of the constructed object.

Opis:
We propose a skeletonization algorithm that is based on an iterative points contraction. We make an observation that the local center that is obtained via optimizing the sum of the distance to k nearest neighbors possesses good properties of robustness to noise and incomplete data. Based on such an observation, we devise a skeletonization algorithm that mainly consists of two stages: points contraction and skeleton nodes connection. Extensive experiments show that our method can work on raw scans of real-world objects and exhibits better robustness than the previous results in terms of extracting topology-preserving curve skeletons.
