Opis:
We describe a novel high efficiency element based on a binary-phase metal-based sandwiched grating, where the binary grating is covered by a dielectric layer and connected by a metal slab on the fused-silica substrate. The modal method is used to optimize the grating duty cycle and period to analyze the feasibility to achieve high efficiency for TE and TM polarizations by effective indices of the modes excited in the grating region. Rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) is employed to optimize the grating depth and to cover the layer thickness accurately by numerical calculations. It is not easy for the conventional binary grating with a usual duty cycle to achieve high efficiency in the –1st order for TM polarization. For the binary-phase metal-based sandwiched grating, high efficiency can be diffracted into the –1st order for not only TE polarization but also TM polarization. Moreover, the wide fabrication tolerance, the wideband property and the flat surface of easy cleaning should be significant for practical applications in a variety of optical systems.

Opis:
An equation for a binary phase diagram with two eutectic points was deduced from the Van’t Hoff equation. The melting points of hydrazinium nitrate/ nitroguanidine (HN/NQ) samples with different ratios, ranging from 0 to 1 mole fraction, were explored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results revealed the presence of two eutectic points in the phase diagram of the HN/NQ binary system. The dependence of temperature on the composition (T-X phase diagram) of HN/NQ was depicted based on the equation described by the DSC data. The phase diagram of MeNQ/HN, with only one eutectic point was constructed by substituting experimental data of the compositions and their corresponding temperatures into the Van’t Hoff equation. The phase diagram with two or more eutectic points indicated the formation of new stable compounds with appropriate ratios of the two components; no new substance appeared in the system with only one eutectic point. Thus, the HN/NQ binary system showed the presence of a new substance, which is probably the HN/NQ co-crystal. No new substance was detected in the MeNQ/HN binary system. The results of the X-ray diffraction patterns agree with the findings from the phase diagrams.

A general form of material balance equations to be used to calculate quasi-binary sections of multi-component phase diagrams is derived here. When this general equation is reduced to ternary systems, it coincides with those, given in the Thermo-Calc manual. For a k-component system, altogether only (k-2) such independent equations should be written from the list of k(k-1)/2 possible equations.

Opis:
Abstract In the paper, the phase composition changes for the series of Nd10+xFe90 x (x = 0; 0.5; 1; 1.5; 2; 2.5; 3; 3.5; 4) binary alloys, produced by long time annealing and rapid solidification methods were investigated. X-ray diffractometry and Mössbauer spectroscopy were used to determine the phase composition of the alloys. These structural investigations revealed the existence of two crystalline phases in the long time annealed samples: bcc á-Fe and rhombohedral Nd2Fe17 of the Th2Zn17-type structure. Furthermore, the single phase region was observed for the Nd concentration above 12 at.%. For the rapidly solidified ribbon samples, a low volume fraction of the alfa-Fe and the crystalline phase of hexagonal symmetry were detected.

Opis:
In recent years, kernel methods have provided an important alternative solution, as they offer a simple way of expanding linear algorithms to cover the non-linear mode as well. In this paper, we propose a novel recursive kernel approach allowing to identify the finite impulse response (FIR) in non-linear systems, with binary value output observations. This approach employs a kernel function to perform implicit data mapping. The transformation is performed by changing the basis of the data In a high-dimensional feature space in which the relations between the different variables become linearized. To assess the performance of the proposed approach, we have compared it with two other algorithms, such as proportionate normalized least-meansquare (PNLMS) and improved PNLMS (IPNLMS). For this purpose, we used three measurable frequency-selective fading radio channels, known as the broadband radio access Network (BRAN C, BRAN D, and BRAN E), which are standardized by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), and one theoretical frequency selective channel, known as the Macchi’s channel. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm offers better results, even in high noise environments, and generates a lower mean square error (MSE) compared with PNLMS and IPNLMS.

Opis:
Insufficient resolution of digital-light-processing projector will degrade the sinusoidal quality of the binary encoded fringe pattern because of less sampling points in a fringe period, which will degrade the measurement accuracy if it is used in phase measurement profilometry. Two resolutions are proposed in the paper. One is that a cylindrical lens is introduced in the projecting light path of the measurement system to improve sinusoidal quality of the binary encoded fringe by elliptical low-pass filtering of the system. The other one is that superposition of multi-frame binary encoded gratings with different microstructure is to reduce the binary image noise for improving the measurement accuracy. Simulations and experiments verify the validity of the above two methods.

Opis:
A pulsation heat pipe is an efficient heat pipe used in many engineering applications. This study aims to test the effect of working fluids on the thermal performance of pulsation heat pipe. Seven turned pulsation heat pipes were designed and manufactured from a copper pipe with a 3.5 mm inner diameter. The lengths of an evaporation part, an adiabatic passage, and a condenser part were 300 mm, 210 mm, and 300 mm, respectively. In this study, three different fluids were used as the working fluid: distilled water, methanol, and binary fluid (a mixture of water and methanol) with a 50% filling ratio. Compared to water, the experimental results suggested that methanol had a better thermal performance when used as a working fluid in the PHP. On the other hand, a binary fluid enhanced the lower thermal performance of water (29% reduction in the thermal resistance and a 20% increase in the effective thermal conductivity of the PHP).

Opis:
The main work of this paper focuses on the simulation of binary alloy solidification using the phase field model and adaptive octree grids. Ni-Cu binary alloy is used as an example in this paper to do research on the numerical simulation of isothermal solidification of binary alloy. Firstly, the WBM model, numerical issues and adaptive octree grids have been explained. Secondary, the numerical simulation results of three dimensional morphology of the equiaxed grain and concentration variations are given, taking the efficiency advantage of the adaptive octree grids. The microsegregation of binary alloy has been analysed emphatically. Then, numerical simulation results of the influence of thermo-physical parameters on the growth of the equiaxed grain are also given. At last, a simulation experiment of large scale and long-time has been carried out. It is found that increases of initial temperature and initial concentration will make grain grow along certain directions and adaptive octree grids can effectively be used in simulations of microstructure.

Opis:
Most researches of network reliability generally assume that the system structures do not change with time. This paper presents the concept of multi-phase network systems (MPNS) to consider dynamic characteristics of networks, and analyze the reliability of MPNS. MPNS reliability is evaluated through a cross-phase binary decision diagram (BDD). The BDD-based algorithm can act as a platform to consider various components behaviors such as repair and growing pressure. Case study shows that the proposed MPNS concept is an effective description of some practical communication networks, and the cross-phase BDD model is efficient in analyzing MPNS reliability.
