Opis:
Industrial companies are the core of the national innovation system. However, large, medium and small enterprises differ significantly in their role in the innovation system, resource potential, strategic priorities and objectives. The paper focuses on a comparative analysis of the strategic priorities of innovative activities of Russian companies of different size. We have identified three types of companies: small innovative companies, large and medium-sized companies with a traditional business model, major innovation-driven companies with an integrated business model. Our analysis of the trajectories of small innovative firms located in Novosibirsk Scientific Center showed that the majority of the companies can be characterized either as spin-off firm or as specialized supplier. Spin-offs are newly established small firms, who have recently separated from the major research labs or parent companies. The typical behavior model for such companies is innovative entrepreneurship. Specialized suppliers are small companies that provide significant contributions to complex manufacturing systems in the form of equipment, parts, tools and software. Innovative objectives of such small companies deal with design and production of the specific elements required for large companies. Large and medium-sized companies with a traditional business model are characterized by the existing structure of commodity output and the supply chain. Characteristic type of innovative behavior for such companies includes incremental product and process innovations. Large innovation-oriented companies with an integrated business model have traditional production units and innovative units in their structure. Innovation priorities of major innovation-oriented companies with integrated business model are consistent with the hybrid model of behavior which combines the traditional model with an innovative entrepreneurship.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to compare assessments made by Finnish- and Swedish-speaking workers in Finland about the safety climate in their companies, because an earlier study showed that the accident frequency of Swedish-speaking workers was one third lower than that of Finnish-speaking workers. 148 Finnish-speaking and 138 Swedish-speaking workers from 14 small and medium-sized companies participated in this study. They filled out a Finnish safety climate questionnaire, the reliability of which was above the acceptable level. There were no differences between the language groups in the total variables of safety climate and safety action. Based on the differences in single items, we interpreted that Swedish-speaking workers stressed collective safety more, whereas Finnish-speaking workers put more emphasis on their personal responsibility for safety.

Opis:
This paper explores whether religiously motivated behaviour may function as the Streeckian “beneficial constraint” in its potential of hindering voluntaristic action of economic actors and thus increases productivity of the analyzed small and medium-sized enterprises, challenged by the informal economy/corruption. Efficient performance in the formal economic sphere usually demands that entrepreneurs who enter formality introduce new organizational structures, which bring competitive products or services into a market or find a niche for their products. The study inquired into the question whether Catholic-oriented entrepreneurs, while shifting to formality from informality or maintaining legal compliance created innovative economic strategies. Whilst examining this problem it was found that the religious attitude of the analysed entrepreneurs is co-determined by the structural context in which the analyzed actors operated (e.g. type of economic sector, the size of the company, the degree of informalization of given sector, managerial skills etc).

Następnie zaprezentowano interpretację i cechy negocjacji w małych i średnich firmach.
The accomplishment of all kind of business ventures requires establishing and maintaining beneficial relationships with business partners, communicating efficiently and making effective deals through mutual decision making and exchanging tangible and non-tangible assets, making many arrangements concerning the scopes, deadlines or the methods of performing the activities as well as resolving conflicts in cooperation. Therefore, within economic activity in general, and in small and medium-sized companies in particular, it is needed to conduct numerous negotiations with many external partners and between the members of particular organization. That entails the necessity of having proper negotiation competences, i.e. knowledge and experience, abilities and skills as well as personal traits. Considering the above statements, the objective of the paper is to characterize negotiation competences which an entrepreneur should possess in order to perform the above-listed activities. The introduction contains the clarification of key notions used in the text. Then the concept and features of negotiations within small and mediumsized companies are presented. Within the substantial part of the paper, the negotiation competences of an entrepreneur are described, divided into two groups, i.e. universal and situational ones. Afterwards, an original concept of the evaluation of those competences is suggested. In the summation, apart from the paper synthesis, directions for further research are pointed out.

Opis:
Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have plenty of competitive advantages compared to large companies. They are more capable of being original and innovative, and due to their flexibility, they can respond better to environmental changes and satisfy their customers’ emerging needs. They also have more opportunities to redesign or alter and improve their management tools and information systems. Moreover, the employees can improve their expertise in novel fields. Due to the significance of SMEs in countries’ economies, a great number of studies and investigations have been conducted on them. According to the previous studies of the researcher and review of the literature, relying on the three-dimensional model, three groups of structural, content, and environmental factors were identified as the most important factors affecting the performance of SMEs in Semnan province in Iran. Nevertheless, owing to the wide area of research and also in order to achieve better results, this study has focused only on investigating the role of structural factors in the performance of SMEs in Semnan province. The research method used in this study in terms of target is applied and in terms of data collection is analytical. The method used for data analysis is the technique of structural equations of second rank factor analysis . The results of the research revealed that structural factors affect SMEs performance to the amount of 3.99.
