Opis:
The results of a research into the scale and consequences of the degradation of aquatic ecosystems in Ukrainian Polesie have been detected in article, and the areas of increased anthropogenic pressure have been identified which greatly affect the condition and number of aquatic macrophytes. The biodiversity of sites with different anthropogenic load was evaluated using the biodiversity criteria. In the research, the structural and functional features of macrophytic species diversity within Teteriv River ecological corridor as a typical river landscape of Ukrainian Polesie were determined and described, the floristic composition was determined. Within the ecological zones, the number of species and their projective coverage in areas with different anthropogenic pressures within Teteriv River ecological corridor were determined. The basic criteria for the implementation of deferred biomonitoring based on the analysis of the dynamics of the species composition of the phytocoenoses of Teteriv River ecological corridor on the indicators of ecological stability and plasticity using the species-specific criteria, are: Margalef species richness index, Sørensen–Dice index, Shannon diversity index, Simpson’s index, and Pielou’s evenness index. Based on the results, correlation dependencies have been constructed, which will allow to obtain data on the stability of the development of aquatic ecosystems according to the data of species surveys. Interconnections between biodiversity indicators and indicators of surface water quality within the Ukrainian Polesie were found; they are the fundamental component of a long-term monitoring of the stability in the development of aquatic phytocenoses.

The use of phytoplankton as an indicator of water pollution is a promising tool for assessment of water quality. The purpose of this study was to determine whether diversity indices, including the species richness and diversity of phyto-plankton, could be used for reliable assessment of water quality in the Wadaslintang Reservoir in Indonesia. Surveys were conducted monthly at eight sites, from July 2019 to October 2019. Phytoplankton was collected during the day at 10:00 until approximately 15:00 in the euphotic zone. The parameters investigated were species richness and the abundance of phytoplankton, as well as water quality parameters listed in Government Regulation Number 82 of 2001. The level of pollution was represented biologically by the Shannon–Wiener diversity index and physicochemically by the STORET (storage and retrieval of water quality data) index. Moreover, the two indices were compared to determine whether a particular diversity index was more effective for assessment of this reservoir. The results showed that during the dry season, 22 taxa of phytoplankton were present, belonging to Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Chrysophyta, and Euglenophyta. During the wet season, 29 taxa were found, belonging to Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, and Chrysophyta. Based on the Shannon-Wiener index and STORET index, water quality was better during the wet season than during the dry season. The results of water quality assessment using both indices were consistent, but the diversity index was a more sensitive indicator of pollution levels. Therefore, the Shannon–Wiener index is a useful tool for assessment of water quality in the Wadaslintang Reservoir.

Opis:
Biodiversity can be evaluated basing on the species numbers or numbers of chosen taxa (S). The biodiversity assessment is also enabled using the Shannon index (H) that includes numbers of taxa and their relative abundances (or relative biomass likely relative degrees of covering). The proper description of biological or statistically significant differences (or their absence) between the compared taxocenosis of identical or subjectively different values of S and H, is not possible by use of both methods mentioned. Thus, the aim of our work was to present the manners for solving these problems basing on the example of three hypothetical organism communities. Two of the communities mentioned were characterized by the same values of S (taxon richness) and different values of H (the Shannon index) and two ones had similar H values and different values of S. To obtain the complete description of biological differences between compared communities the following indices were calculated: Hmax (a maximum value of Shannon index for the richness of taxa represented by the same number of individuals), Vd (a percentage value of covering structural capacity of community, “evenness deficiency”), E (MacArthur index - a taxon number (S) in a community for which the observed value of H equals Hmax) and Ps (taxon richness shortage in percents). Moreover, graphical method of Δb, profiles was used for comparing community diversities. Instead, to obtain information about statistically significant differences in biodiversity between analyzed communities, the rarefaction curves were applied. The curves are based on the zero models and the Monte Carlo method.

Observing wildlife at their natural habitat is practically a chance factor. However, there is alternative way by which it is possible to study the presence of wildlife and also their activities by indirect methods. North Bengal, especially Dooars is extreme rich in wildlife; therefore, there are many National Parks, Reserve forest as well as Wildlife Sanctuaries at this terrain. Studies on presence of wildlife by means of indirect evidences from different National Parks of Dooars reveals many untold stories. From this study it also evident that Dooars region is still harboring very good verities of wildlife, therefore, this is the demand of time to conserve these forests, as well as wildlife not only to save them from quick destruction but also to maintain human civilization.

Opis:
Roadside transitory water bodies being manmade depressions have a great ecological and socio-economic importance from years. The effects of agricultural runoffs, jute retting, macro-phytes infestations and inadequate rainfall in changed climate often degrade transitory water bodies’ environment while the biodiversity have impacted severely because of population pressure, over exploitation and indiscriminate use of fine meshed fishing gears as a whole. Physico-chemical and biological analysis with fish species composition, relative abundance, diversity indices like species richness, evenness and Shannon-Wiener index were carried out for pre-, during and post-jute retting season and for year mean as a whole to assess impact of jute retting on the roadside transitory water body’s environmental health and indigenous fish diversity at Sahebnagar village in Nadia District, India. All the physico-chemical parameters barring biochemical oxygen demand and water transparency remained more or less same or marginally got little changed during those three seasons. As much as 19 native fish species with varied relative abundances and dominances were identified. Jute retting impacted lower native fish diversity indices like Shannon-Wiener index values (1.94 to 2.68) clearly indicated poor to moderate pollution status of the transitory water body in that area during monsoon in particular and throughout the year in general. So we opined there should be some control over the intense jute retting in the road side transitory water bodies for sustainable management of these manmade resources.

Opis:
Spatial analyses of landscape element diversity are always carried out on the basis of a previously established analytical grid. It divides the research area into 'n' smaller areas - basic units before calculating various landscape measures for each of them. The selection of an appropriate analytical grid, particularly its cell size, is a key issue for the results obtained and conclusions drawn from them. The article describes the procedure of empirical selection of a basic unit size in the medium-scale landscape and geodiversity analyses employing a regular analytical grid with square cells. The established methodology was based on observations of the distribution of the number of studied feature categories in the analytical grid fields. The correctness measures for the selection of the optimal basic unit size were the distributions themselves, as well as selected descriptive statistical parameters. The conducted analyses accurately illustrate the dependences between the variable size of the basic unit size and the number of the studied feature categories. The research conducted proves that the simple empirical approximation of the optimal basic unit size is possible. The proposed procedure allowed the determination of the optimal basic unit size for the variation of the lithostratigraphic units of the Ojców National Park. The optimal unit size for the accuracy data typical for a reference scale 1:50 000 was specified as 500 m.

Opis:
Lumbricidae play a key role in the soil environment as “the ecosystem engineers”. They participate in all the categories of services provided by ecosystems. In agricultural areas, the conventional intensive farming practices have led to a significant decline in the biological diversity of soils including earthworms. In this study, we attempted to characterize the community structure of earthworms in permanent grassland and arable land of the Didactic & Experimental Station of Rzeszów University in Krasne near Rzeszów. Similar densities of earthworms were observed in the grassland and in the arable land (101.01 ± 18.03 ind. ∙ m-2 and 82.12 ± 18.26 ind. ∙ m-2, respectively) (p > 0.05) as well as a similar biomass of Lumbricidae (77.72 ± 15.30 g ∙ m-2 and 54.34 ± 11.72 g ∙ m-2) (p > 0.05). In the research, 7 species of earthworms were found in the permanent grassland and 6 representatives of Lumbricidae were identified in the arable land. The identified earthworms represented all three main morpho-ecological groups. The density and biomass of epi-endogeic earthworm L. rubellus and the anecic species of L. terrestris were shown to be higher (p < 0.05) in the grassland as compared to the arable land. In order to protect Lumbricidae and to sustain the beneficial role of earthworms in an ecosystem, it is necessary to monitor the negative changes in populations of earthworm species attributed to various farming practices.

Opis:
The article presents a new scientific approach to the issue of entropy as a pro-growth and limiting factor in regional development and its practical elaboration. The research goal was to formulate a theoretical definition of entropy in regional development and to verify it in practice, i.e. to diagnose the entropy factor and to effectively analyze it with the possibility of its practical use. The use of the Shannon Wiener index for Local Action Groups in the South Bohemian region has provided valid results in the field of differentiation of territorial units, such as Local Action Groups (LAGs), regions and municipalities, as well as an appropriate basis for prediction of their further development. The research has also confirmed suitability of four main indication pillars (economic, infrastructure, social and environmental) while their indicators should be adjusted to the character of the tested territory. An appropriate approach seems to be application of the entropy index to a relatively closed unit where the elements mutually affect one another and have mutual relations and ties. Outputs from the solution can be seen as a description of the general status in the individual LAGs; moreover, outputs from the research have been examined by LAG managements and they have seen them as an important source of knowledge and have made some recommendations to strengthen their informative capacity. In conformity with the findings we can conclude that the achieved results should be seen as the first approximation of the solution of the concerned issue and they need to be further verified and completed.
Zdiagnozowanie czynnika entropii i efektywna analiza z możliwością jej praktycznego wykorzystania.

A high usage of social media and web 2.0 in Indonesia creates an opportunity for Indonesian universities to understand their customers’ demands and needs. By considering social media and web 2.0 technology as an important role for the application of social customer relationship management (social CRM), this research is intended to evaluate the adoption and application level of social media and web 2.0 by universities in Indonesia. We accomplish an observation towards websites and web 2.0 and social media features, which are used by 58 universities in Jakarta, to be analyzed using non-exhaustive Sophistication Index. In addition, we execute a survey as well to take a look on university principals’ perception towards the practice of web 2.0 and social media application, and analyze it with Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). The result of this research shows that there are some web 2.0 and social media features which need to be utilized more frequently by universities, though most of these features have been working optimally.

Trees are significant components of ecosystems built by several widespread species. For instance, Papua forest is known to comprise abiotic and biotic elements. Also, certain plants have grown in popu- larity to a point where they are discovered almost everywhere. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to investigate tree diversity, distribution, and the importance of conservation. Data were collected in four locations using a total of 24 sample plots spread across Idoor, Karst, Persemaian, and Torembi, where seven, four, seven, and five plots were allocated, respectively. These forests formed a mixed natural plantation comprising 76 species from 35 families. Furthermore, Idoor and Karst generated the highest species diver- sity and varied significantly compared to Persemaian, while Torembi showed similarities with the other three locations. This condition formed three ecosystem communities across Persemaian, Karst, Idoor, and Torembi. Also, the composition of the dominant species showed variations at the seedling and sapling levels believed to structure the understory, while the pole and tree levels characterized the overstory. The total species status was described as critically endangered (CR) of two species, vulnerable (VU) of six species, least con- cern (LC) of 28 species, and data deficient (DD) species. Therefore, location management is advised to not only pay significant attention in terms of economic benefits but also ecological, including the provisions for ex-situ and in-situ conservation to support sustainable forest management.
