Opis:

Let I and J be σ-ideals on Polish spaces X and Y, respectively. We say that the pair ⟨I,J⟩ has the Strong Fubini Property (SFP) if for every set D ⊆ X× Y with measurable sections, if all its sections $D_x = {y: ⟨x,y⟩ ∈ D}$ are in J, then the sections $D^y = {x: ⟨x,y⟩ ∈ D}$ are in I for every y outside a set from J (``measurable" means being a member of the σ-algebra of Borel sets modulo sets from the respective σ-ideal). We study the question of which pairs of σ-ideals have the Strong Fubini Property. Since CH excludes this phenomenon completely, sufficient conditions for SFP are always independent of ZFC.
 We show, in particular, that:
 • if there exists a Lusin set of cardinality the continuum and every set of reals of cardinality the continuum contains a one-to-one Borel image of a non-meager set, then ⟨MGR(X), J⟩ has SFP for every J generated by a hereditary $п^1_1$ (in the Effros Borel structure) family of closed subsets of Y (MGR(X) is the σ-ideal of all meager subsets of X),
 • if there exists a Sierpiński set of cardinality the continuum and every set of reals of cardinality the continuum contains a one-to-one Borel image of a set of positive outer Lebesgue measure, then $⟨NULL_μ, J⟩$ has SFP if either $J= NULL_ν$ or J is generated by any of the following families of closed subsets of Y ($NULL_μ$ is the σ-ideal of all subsets of X having outer measure zero with respect to a Borel σ-finite continuous measure μ on X):
 (i) all compact sets,
(ii) all closed sets in $NULL_ν$ for a Borel σ-finite continuous measure ν on Y,
 (iii) all closed subsets of a $п^1_1$ set A ⊆ Y.

In this paper, we prove that the topological dual of the Banach space of bounded measurable functions with values in the space of nuclear operators, furnished with the natural topology, is isometrically isomorphic to the space of finitely additive linear operator-valued measures having bounded variation in a Banach space containing the space of bounded linear operators. This is then applied to a stochastic structural control problem. An optimal operator-valued measure, considered as the structural control, is to be chosen so as to minimize fluctuation (volatility). Both existence of optimal policy and necessary conditions of optimality are presented including a conceptual algorithm.

A subset of a vector space is called countably convex if it is a countable union of convex sets. Classification of countably convex subsets of topological vector spaces is addressed in this paper. An ordinal-valued rank function ϱ is introduced to measure the complexity of local nonconvexity points in subsets of topological vector spaces. Then ϱ is used to give a necessary and sufficient condition for countable convexity of closed sets. Theorem. Suppose that S is a closed subset of a Polish linear space. Then S is countably convex if and only if there exists $α < ω_1$ so that ϱ(x) < α for all x ∈ S. Classification of countably convex closed subsets of Polish linear spaces follows then easily. A similar classification (by a different rank function) was previously known for closed subset of $ℝ^2$ [3]. As an application of ϱ to Banach space geometry, it is proved that for every $α < ω_1$, the unit sphere of C(ωα) with the sup-norm has rank α. Furthermore, a countable compact metric space K is determined by the rank of the unit sphere of C(K) with the natural sup-norm: Theorem. If $K_1,K_1$ are countable compact metric spaces and $S_i$ is the unit sphere in $C(K_i)$ with the sup-norm, i = 1,2, then $ϱ(S_1) = ϱ(S_2)$ if and only if $K_1$ and $K_2$ are homeomorphic. Uncountably convex closed sets are also studied in dimension n > 2 and are seen to be drastically more complicated than uncountably convex closed subsets of $ℝ^2$

Opis:
At first glance, the documentary films that the outstanding Polish filmmaker Grzegorz Królikiewicz was making at the turn of the 1970s, may seem less experimental than his feature films (one only needs to recall such innovative films as Through and Through or The Dancing Hawk). Viewed against the context of certain radical formal decisions, they may even strike one as traditional. Nevertheless, if one were to look closely at Królikiewicz’s early documentaries, one can see that they are more complicated than they seem and that what we have there is “unobvious” experimental cinema. An internal conflict is created by the relationship between form and content, the tension between them, and sometimes even discussion. This concerns his poetic short films (Don’t Cry, Brothers and Men), based in part on Królikiew- icz’s conception of “off-screen cinema space”, as well as his psychodramas (Fidelity, The Murderer’s Letter). The true message of these films has been carefully concealed, and has to be looked for in the way the director presents everyday reality to us.

Opis:
Following the spatial turn in cultural studies, ethnic space is understood as a cultural category, constructed by discourse and determined by capital, within which people create their own narratives. This essay explores the construction of ethnic space and identity in the phenomenon of the Polish American polka music festival. Framed by the attention to the process of “production of space” (Lefebvre 1991), the essay presumes that new conceptualizations of spatiality assume space is no longer treated as something given, a pre-existing territory, or locale. The case study of the ethnic music festival is an ideal place for examining the invention of place, because it is not located in a fixed space, but in a movable community traveling from festival to festival. The polka festival circuit is attended by a core community of polka boosters, many of whom travel from event to event in vacation motor homes, with attendees setting up "neighborhoods" of motor homes that include front lawns, outdoor kitchens, and "streets." Most bring lawn signs, street signs, flags and other public signs of Polish American identity, recreating-this essay argues-the urban ethnic neighborhood of previous immigrant generations. Polish American ethnic identity for this group of participants is located and recreated in an imagined community that it creates, dismantles, moves and recreates in a mobile spatiality of ethnic belonging. The paper explores the moveable and mutable production of ethnic space arguing that the traditional aspects of nineteenth century village, reimagined in the twentieth century Polonian neighborhood are now recreated anew in twenty-first century polka festival culture: the village, the church, the parochial school, the tavern, the neighborhood economy and the kitchen are creatively refashioned in this mobile ethnic community.Recent scholarship on Polish American polka has argued that contrary to popular stereotype, polka is innovative hybrid alternative music and, furthermore, that preserving polka's history is an important, but often overlooked, part of preserving American multicultural history (Gunkel 2006, 5-8). This project continues that research by providing this spatially-framed study of the phenomenon of the seasonal polka festival. Over a period of five years, I visited polka festivals in North America as a participant observer, documenting the social and cultural landscape of these gatherings of polka people. This essay traces the nature of imagined community in Polish American polka festivals-understood as a diasporic ethnoscape–exploring the construction of ethnic space in the twenty-first century.

The article is a proposition of a new approach to building a neural model based on the system of Day-Ahead Market operating at TGE S.A. The reason for the proposed method is an attempt to find a better model for the DAM system. The proposed methodology is based on using mathematical models used in quantum computing. All calculations performed on learning the Artificial Neuron Network are based on operations described in Hilbert space. The main idea of calculations is to replace the data from the decimal system into the quantum state in Hilbert space and perform learning operations for a neural model of the DAM system in a special manner which relay on the teaching model for each position of the quantum register for all data. The obtained results were compared to the “classical” neural model with the use of a comparative model.

This article aims to sketch out the Jewish-Polish identity of a prominent Jewish actor and director, Zygmunt Turkow (1896–1970). A summary of the nature of Jewish identity is followed by a study of his memoirs Fragmentn fun mayn lebn [Fragments of My Life] (1951) from the period of 1896–1916. Drawing on Cultural Literacy (Segal 2014), the study focuses on the methods and thoughts of Roland Barthes ([1967] 1985) on urban space. The main section of this paper includes an overview of the places and institutions in Warsaw that Turkow mentioned in his memoirs. All the addresses are ascribed to four social categories (home and friends, religion, education, and freetime) and then discussed. The final section contains research conclusions on Turkow’s selfhood, his sense of Jewish and Polish identity, and his attachment to Jewish or Polish culture, as well as the defining characteristics of his Polish-Jewish/ Jewish-Polish self-identity. This article aims to explain the peculiar circumstances that contribute to the complexity of determining and investigating what can be considered as Jewish identity.

The text is devoted to discussing the formation methods and the functions of screen space in shots by Mieczysław Jahoda in the films Zimowy zmierzch (directed by S. The analysis concerns the camera means applied by Jahoda in order to obtain screen effects: light, frame composition, photographic optics and perspective transformation. The film shots by Mieczysław Jahoda are characterized by an exceptional ability to evoke mental space, emotions, memory and imagination via the shapes of screen space. Their feature is a special esthetization aimed at creating the atmosphere of films, as well as symbolic and cultural references.

As a result of identification, four respective discrete parametric arx models were obtained, which were then subject to quality assessment. Then, a simulation model was built in the Simulink environment, which was used for simulation tests and for assessing the sensitivity of the model created using the data from 2019 as the basis and the data from 2020 for verification. The obtained results confirm the correctness of both the performed discrete parametric identification and the possibility of testing the quality of the model and its sensitivity with the use of the DAM system model in the MATLAB and Simulink environment.

Seven major types of sea space use (Nature Protection Measures, Fisheries Ex- ploitation, Geological Exploitation, Recreation, Large Infrastructures, Navigation, Military uses) in the Polish Marine Areas are presented in terms of how much space is used (km2) for each use and the degree of overlap among the different uses. The greatest degree of conflict is noted with regard to Nature Protection (which overlaps with 60% of the areas used for Recreation and Geological Exploitation), and Fisheries Exploitation (which overlaps with 60% of the areas used for Nature Protection, Recreation, Infrastructure and Navigation). On the other hand, Fisheries Exploitation areas are the least disturbed by other users, and its major competitor is Nature Protection, which claims 20% of the areas used by fisheries. A GIS–based map that illustrates the degree of conflict is included, and the authors suggest participatory management as the proper way to minimize conflicts over sea space use and to promote the effective protection of natural resources.

This paper discusses the literary, artistic, scientific, and educational narratives that are (re)created to facilitate the city’s recovery of memory in the wake of the Holocaust. This is the case with Lublin. The story of the complete destruction of its Jewish quarter in the Second World War is a tragically familiar one in Central Europe, even though it had been silenced and forgotten for decades during the communist period. I would like to analyze an essayistic project that searches for a new language about a place left empty. How could one fill the void by making it mean something to new people, becoming their own narrative, and preserving the presence of the city’s former inhabitants? How is it possible to create a new mythology of a place? I assume that such questions must have been the starting point for essays on Lublin byWładysław Panas (1947–2005), related to the commemoration in the context of urban space. My text comes in four parts. I begin with general information and historical background, as well as an introduction to the analysis of Panas’s essay Oko Cadyka (The Eye of the Tzaddik) − the main subject of my paper − which exemplifies the reflection on the creation of narrative and urban space in contemporary humanities. In the second part, I focus on and contextualize the relationship between text and city that the essay postulates. The third part deals with theoretical approaches to interpretation. The fourth part underlines the scientific and critical aspects of Panas’s text, which questions the language of science − the humanities, historiography, and theory in general. I end with a look at some artistic projects inspired by his images.
