The research for novel power conversion topologies and the development of cutting-edge power component technologies are driven by the demand for renewable and much more efficient electricity generation, delivery, and conversion. Simulation and Analysis High Voltage Gain DC-DC Converter with Double Voltage Booster Switched Inductor for PV Applications are analyzed in this paper. Multilevel boost converter topologies recently reintroduced, are gaining popularity as a solution for industrial and transportation power systems because they enable the use of innovative, efficient, but relatively low voltage low-voltage devices at greater voltage and power levels. there is only one power switch on the converter that is planned here, three diodes, two capacitors, and two inductors to achieve ultra-high gain with better efficiency. High voltage gain, minimal switch stress, and the ability to lessen input-current ripple and capacitor voltage ripple are all benefits of the topology. When it switches complementary, the capacitors' ripple is reduced, which lowers the size requirement for the capacitors. A 12V, 500 watts prototype was analyzed, simulated and designed. at a duty cycle of 0.75 it is achieved high DC-DC gain i.e 19 and efficiency 93%. The practicality of the converter will be demonstrated by the close agreement between the analysis and simulation findings.

Opis:
The flying-capacitor (FC) topology is one of the more well-established ideas of multilevel conversion, typically applied as an inverter. One of the biggest advantages of the FC converter is the ability to naturally balance capacitor voltage. When natural balancing occurs neither measurements, nor additional control is needed to maintain required capacitors voltage sharing. However, in order to achieve natural voltage balancing suitable conditions must be achieved such as the topology, number of levels, modulation strategy as well as impedance of the output circuitry. Nevertheless this method is effectively applied in various classes of the converter such as inverters, multicell DC-DC, switch-mode DC-DC, AC-AC, as well as rectifiers. The next important issue related to the natural balancing proces is its dynamics. Furthermore, in order to reinforce the balancing mechanism an auxiliary resonant balancing circuit is utilized in the converter which can also be critical in the AC-AC converters or switch mode DC-DC converters. This paper also presents an issue of choosing modulation strategy for the FC converter due to the fact that the natural balancing process is well-established for phase shifted PWM whilst other types of modulation can be more favorable for the power quality.

Opis:
High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems has been an alternative method of transmitting electric power from one location to another with some inherent advantages over AC transmission systems. The efficiency and rated power carrying capacity of direct current transmission lines highly depends on the converter used in transforming the current from one form to another (AC to DC and vice versa). A well-configured converter reduces harmonics, increases power transfer capabilities, and reliability in that it offers high tolerance to fault along the line. Different HVDC converter topologies have been proposed, built and utilised all over the world. The two dominant types are the line commutated converter LCC and the voltage source converter VSC. This review paper evaluates these two types of converters, their operational characteristics, power rating capability, control capability and losses. The balance of the paper addresses their applications, advantages, limitations and latest developments with these technologies.

Opis:
In order to solve the problem of traditional carrier phase-shift modulation with multiple ratios or PI controllers and cumbersome tuning parameters, this paper uses improved carrier phase-shift modulation. The total turn-on number of sub-modules each bridge arm is determined by comparing the sinusoidal modulated wave with the triangular carrier, and then the control signal is generated according to the capacitance voltage sorting result and the bridge arm current polarity. However, this modulation method uses a sorting method that causes the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) have an excessively high switching frequency. Therefore, a sorting trigger condition that can effectively reduce the switching frequency is used. The method determines whether to reorder based on the error between the voltage average and the actual value. For the circulation problem, the double-frequency negative sequence component is extracted by rotating coordinate transformation, and it is suppressed by PI control. A 21-level MMC model was built in MATLAB/simulink to analyze the sub-module capacitor voltage fluctuation, output current, voltage distortion rate and bridge arm circulation. It is verified that the modulation method can combine the sorting algorithm and circulation suppression method at the same time, and has better voltage equalization and circulation suppression effects.

This paper presents a novel concept of a circuit for voltage balance of three series-connected capacitors or batteries, as well as the research results. The problem is related to the control of voltage sharing on series capacitors, supercapacitors or battery banks in energy storage systems or direct current (DC)-link of four-level neutral-point-clamped inverters. The proposed circuit is a switched-capacitor (SC) resonant converter composed of a single capacitor and seven transistor switches. Control of the converter makes it possible to transfer energy between any capacitors, by switching selected transistors. This paper presents the basic concept of the converter, an analysis of control strategies and the simulation results for various cases of voltage balancing.

This paper proposes a multiobjective improved particle swarm optimisation (IPSO) for placing and sizing the series modular multilevel converter-based unified power flow controller (MMC-UPFC) FACTS devices to manage the transmission congestion and voltage profile in deregulated electricity markets. The proposed multiobjective IPSO algorithm is perfect for accomplishing the close ideal distributed generation (DG) sizes while conveying smooth assembly qualities contrasted with another existing algorithm. It tends to be reasoned that voltage profile and genuine power misfortunes have generous upgrades along ideal speculation on DGs in both the test frameworks. The proposed system eliminates the congestion and the power system can be easily used to solve complex and non-linear optimisation problems in a real-time manner.

Opis:
In this paper, an open-switch fault diagnosis method for five-level H-Bridge Neutral Point Piloted (HB-NPP) or T-type converters is proposed. While fault tolerant operation is based on three steps (fault detection, fault localization and system reconfiguration), a fast fault diagnosis, including both fault detection and localization, is mandatory to make a suitable response to an open-circuit fault in one of the switches of the converter. Furthermore, fault diagnosis is necessary in embedded and safety critical applications, to prevent further damage and perform continuity of service. In this paper, we present an open-switch fault diagnosis method, based on the switches control orders and the observation of the converter output voltage level. In five-level converters such as HB-NPP and T-type topologies, some switches are mostly 'on' at the same time. Therefore, the fault localization is quite complicated. The fault diagnosis method we proposed is capable to detect and localize an open-switch fault in all cases. Computer simulations are carried out by using Matlab Simulink and SimPowerSystem toolbox to validate the proposed approach.

Opis:
Multilevel converters have been intensively investigated and developed since 1960s and have found successful industrial applications. The aim of this paper is to present state of the art as well as recent research and applications of cascaded multilevel converters, which are a very interesting solution for power distribution systems and renewable energy sources. Cascaded multilevel converters can easily operate at medium and high voltage based on the series connection of power modules (cells), which use standard low-voltage component configurations. Series connections of modules (cells) allow for high quality output voltages and input currents, reduction of passive components and availability of component redundancy. Due to these features the cascaded multilevel converters have been recognized as attractive solutions for high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) transmission, solid state transformers (SST) and photovoltaic (PV) systems.

Opis:
This paper presents a new concept for a power electronic converter – the extended T-type (eT) inverter, which is a combination of a three-phase inverter and a three-level direct current (dc)/dc converter. The novel converter shows better performance than a comparable system composed of two converters: a T-type inverter and a boost converter. At first, the three-level dc/dc converter is able to boost the input voltage but also affects the neutral point potential. The operation principles of the eT inverter are explained and a simulation study of the SiC-based 6 kVA system is presented in this paper. Presented results show a serious reduction of the DC-link capacitors and the input inductor. Furthermore, suitable SiC power semiconductor devices are selected and power losses are estimated using Saber software in reference to a comparative T-type inverter. According to the simulations, the 50 kHz/6 kVA inverter feed from the low voltage (250 V) shows <2.5% of power losses in the suggested SiC metal oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) and Schottky diodes. Finally, a 6 kVA laboratory model was designed, built and tested. Conducted measurements show that despite low capacitance (2 × 30 μF/450 V), the neutral point potential is balanced, and the observed efficiency of the inverter is around 96%.

The converter, for power electronic applications, can operate in ZCS mode by utilizing resonant circuits for recharging the switched capacitors. The main focus of this article is an in-depth original analysis of the waveforms and the converter voltage ratio. The concept of the converter is verified by simulation results of the circuit in MATLAB/Simulink Sim Power Systems. The formulas given in the mathematical analysis are evaluated for example parameters of the components with the use of numerical approach in MATLAB software. Plot sets are presented in order to judge the influence of the parameters on converter performance. All non-expected relations are explained based on mathematical analysis. The possibilities of the design optimization are identified and presented based on the anticipated results. The present analysis is important for the converter design process and can be used for numerical multi-object optimization to further improve the converter design.
