Opis:
An integrated model, which contains flow and transport‐fate modules, will be presented for simulating transport and fate of oil spills at seas. The flow module uses different kinds of meshes that provide great flexibility for modeling the flow in complex geometries of currents and barriers. The refined grid resolution in regions of interest is important. Horizontal diffusion is simulated using random walk techniques in a Monte Carlo framework, whereas the vertical diffusion process can be solved on the basis of the Langeven equation. The model contains the most significant processes which affect the motion of oil particles. For a better fit to the curvature of the coastline there are used unstructured non overlapping rectangular or triangle grid cells. Special attention must be paid to choose the horizontal and vertical resolution in simulating the oil trajectory in the coastal area.

Opis:
The present age of digital subsurface mapping is represented above all by quantitative maps based on regular grids. They are created on the basis of various input data: digitized contours, widely comprehended well data, 2D and 3D seismic, and qualitative geological maps. Scope and the data utilization and the applied methodology of processing are strictly dependent on the scale and purpose of a given map; for regional and detailed maps they are significantly different. However, irrespective of the map scale, correct models, reflecting probable subsurface variability, instead of the input data spatial distribution and applied estimation algorithm themselves, are conditioned by chances of integrating of all the mentioned types of data. These purposes can be achieved only through the application of the most flexible interpretive programs such as ZMAP–Plus or mapping modules of the Geographix system. High quality quantitative subsurface maps based on regular grids are nowadays used first of all in petroleum exploration and geothermal research. But development of such studies may contribute to creation of high-quality, interactive, subsurface models, available not only for owners of expensive professional software but also for all geoscientists interested in these topics.

The concept and implementation of the system for creating dynamic noise maps in PL-Grid infrastructure are presented. The methodology of dynamic acoustical map screating is introduced. The concept of noise mapping, based on noise source and propagation models, was developed and employed in the system. The details of incorporation of the system to the PL-Grid infrastructure are presented. The results of simulations performed by the system prototype are depicted. The results in the form of noise maps obtained by a system are compared with some other solutions in order to investigate accuracy.

Opis:
A simple and efficient method for creating a motion trajectory is presented with an aim to achieve sufficient coverage of a given terrain. A chaotic map has been used in order that the motion trajectory should be unpredictable. The chaotic path generator which has been created, is used for implementing a robot’s movement in four and eight directions. The path generator is tested in various scenarios and the results are discussed. After thorough examination, the proposed method shows that the motion in eight directions gives better and very satisfactory results.

Opis:
The paper presents functionality and operation results of a system for creating dynamic maps of acoustic noise employing the PL-Grid infrastructure extended with a distributed sensor network. The work presented provides a demonstration of the services being prepared within the PLGrid Plus project for measuring, modeling and rendering data related to noise level distribution in city agglomerations. Specific computational environments, the so-called domain grids, are developed in the mentioned project. For particular domain grids, specialized IT solutions are prepared, i.e. software implementation and hardware (infrastructure adaptation), dedicated for particular researcher groups demands, including acoustics (the domain grid “Acoustics”). The infrastructure and the software developed can be utilized mainly for research and education purposes, however it can also help in urban planning. The engineered software is intended for creating maps of noise threat for road, railways and industrial sources. Integration of the software services with the distributed sensor network enables automatic updating noise maps for a specific time period. The unique feature of the developed software is a possibility of evaluating auditory effects which are caused by the exposure to excessive noise. The estimation of auditory effects is based on calculated noise levels in a given exposure period. The outcomes of this research study are presented in a form of the cumulative noise dose and the characteristics of the temporary threshold shift.

Opis:
The menace of surge occurrence in the compressors is taken very seriously and its avoidance became a fundamental for the design of any modern jet engines. Nowadays, a problem with appropriate evaluation of the compressor surge margin while considering different simplifications of three-dimensional CFD model is still present. For that purpose, this article presents a comparison between the measurement data and several variants of 3D CFD models characterized by a specific mesh density. To calculate all the results on which the comparisons and conclusions are based, an 8-stage axial compressor is taken into account. Flow conditions of the machine are computed for three part load speeds: The low, the mid and the high one respecting the variable guide vanes schedule fitted to the specific load. For each of speed variants a four mesh configurations were generated: coarse, medium, fine and extra-fine. All speed configurations were treated with two different turbulence models – Wilcox k-ω and Menter’s SST k-ω, giving ultimately 15 CFD models, calculated with the TRACE solver using an initialization based on a circumferentially averaged flow solution delivered by the Streamline Curvature Method. During the study an additional assessment of reference grid independence was performed and the mesh convergence has been achieved. A comparison between turbulence models and the measurement proves that SST turbulence model is not well distributed through the speeds in compare to the measurement data and the Wilcox turbulence model. Inconsistency of sensitivity in the mesh coarsening for different rotational speeds was found. Increasing the mesh roughness level has to be executed for each speed separately. Overall compressor map shows that shift of the Pressure Ratio and the Mass Flow decreases with lower rotational speed. Neglecting the system add-ons like labyrinth sealing volumes, bleed-ports and other leakages has a visible influence on deviations from the measurements. Because of intended future use in design and optimization the “Medium” grid with Wilcox k-ω turbulence model was chosen, being a good representation of the Rig characteristics with reduction of the computing time.

Opis:
Population data are generally provided by state census organisations at the predefined census enumeration units. However, these datasets very are often required at userdefined spatial units that differ from the census output levels. A number of population estimation techniques have been developed to address these problems. This article is one of those attempts aimed at improving county level population estimates by using spatial disaggregation models with support of buildings characteristic, derived from national topographic database, and average area of a flat. The experimental gridded population surface was created for Opatów county, sparsely populated rural region located in Central Poland. The method relies on geolocation of population counts in buildings, taking into account the building volume and structural building type and then aggregation the people total in 1 km quadrilateral grid. The overall quality of population distribution surface expressed by the mean of RMSE equals 9 persons, and the MAE equals 0.01. We also discovered that nearly 20% of total county area is unpopulated and 80% of people lived on 33% of the county territory.
