discomfort glare evaluation
Opis:
Objectives: The aim of the study was to analyze discomfort glare sensation in subjects aged 50 years and more in comparison with younger subjects (i.e. younger than 35 years of age). Material and Methods: The experiments were performed on a computer workstation placed in controlled lighting environment where 2 discomfort glare conditions were modeled. Each participant performed for about 1 h specially designed visual tasks, including the tests with Landolt's rings presented on the screen by a computer program. The glare evaluation method consisted of subjective evaluation of discomfort glare on the semantic glare rating scale, tests of mesopic contrast and glare sensitivity, subjective assessment of lighting quality and asthenopic symptoms. The time needed to perform the task and the number of mistakes were also recorded. The subjective evaluation of glare was compared with the Unified Glare Rating (UGR) index calculated by the DIALux simulation program. Results: A higher percentage of the younger group subjects assessed glare after the experimental session as uncomfortable and intolerable than in the 50+ group, who more often assessed glare as acceptable. The assessment of discomfort glare in the younger group corresponded to higher UGR value compared to UGR value calculated by DIALux. In the 50+ group, such correlation was found only for lower discomfort glare (UGR = 19). The results showed that younger participants more frequently suffered from visual fatigue and assessed lighting as less comfortable. However, the mesopic glare sensitivity increased significantly after the experiments only in the 50+ group under both glare conditions. Conclusions: The obtained results showed that discomfort glare sensation changes with age. The younger population seems to be more sensitive and demanding than the older one in relation to discomfort glare limiting, in spite of the lack of significant objective measures of fatigue. The exposure of the elderly to bigger discomfort glare could adversely affect the objective measures of fatigue like mesopic glare sensitivity and visual performance.

Opis:
The above paper presents the assumptions and results of the research whose aim was to determine the influence of 2024, 6061 and 7075 aluminum alloys on the final properties of GLARE-type composites. GLARE 3 2/1 type composites, made of two layers of the epoxy prepreg, reinforced with unidirectional glass fibers, arranged in the direction of 0°/90°, and two sheets of aluminum with a thickness of 0.4 mm, were investigated. Composites of various stacking configurations of alloy layers, made of one type of aluminum alloy (so-called ‘homogeneous composites’), and two different alloys (mixed composites), were analyzed. The properties of the composites were evaluated with the use of the mixing rule and compared with the test results. The influence of the used aluminum alloys on mechanical properties of GLARE-type composites has been determined. GLARE-type composite made of 7075 alloy sheets had the most favorable mechanical properties in comparison to properties of composites with 2024 and 6061 sheets. It has been shown how the properties of GLARE-type composites depend on the type of the aluminum alloy. It has been also proved that the properties of GLARE-type composites can be evaluated with the use of the mixing rule.

Opis:
The basic element of passing beam headlights is the "cut-off line". It was intended in European beam pattern as tool for correct adjustment of passing beam according good road illumination distance and oncoming drive eyes protection of excessive glare. Cut-off line was established on the one hand as a natural part separating bright and dark area in the conventional passing beam, on the other assigned its essential function of the visual aiming of headlights. It is used in laboratory practices as well as in vehicles factories and in services and technical periodical inspection. The most important is that cut-off line was defined visually and subjectively over 50 years ago. But needed aiming precision according guaranteed road visibility and glare protection is much higher than historically moulded practical cut-off performance. In paper is analysed definition of cut-off line, their performance and meaning, historical evolution and influence for technical development of headlamps design. Also, mathematical approximation and modelling of cut-off line visual perception is described. The important is analysis of practical examples of real cut-off lines, their connections with significant beam pattern characteristics and possible ambiguous aiming during type approval and during vehicle exploitation. Also, analyzed are perspectives of future cut-off line use, development or - may be replacement by other means better serving this very important task to guarantee correct adjustment beam pattern according good road illumination and protection against excessive glare.

Opis:
Almost all solutions in modern lighting systems are based on LED technology. Luminance and obvious ease of control are the key characteristics of this light source. At the same time, luminances at the level of 108 cd/m2 are a significant advantage of LED in design applications, where high luminous intensity amplification is important. However, in general and in road lighting applications, LED luminaires represent a source of potential discomfort glare. Unfortunately, lighting technology’s metrology lags behind LED parameter development and optimization. The results of luminance measurements of the same luminaires, made with a luminance camera and meters with a measuring field, differ. The differences even appear for the same imaging luminance measuring devices with different lenses. This article presents the results of experiments and detailed analyzes related to modern digital luminance photometry based on the use of digital image sensors. Luminance tests were conducted on multi-source research models of luminaires. Traditional luminance measuring equipment with a measuring field was used in the experiment. The research was also supplemented with the measurements made using CCD/CMOS luminance cameras with selected components where the angular field of view of each pixel was a 0.45 min arc corresponding to the highest average human sight parameters. The results confirm that the average luminance value for multi-source luminaires depends on the measurement system configuration. It has been proposed to standardize the angular field of view parameters of all measurement systems, where the measurement aims to obtain a value that directly relates to human visual impressions (e.g. glare).

Opis:
The current work is devoted to the determination of dispersion curves for elastic wave modes. The studied elastic waves propagate across metal-fiber hybrid composites. In order to solve the problem, special software has been developed with the use of C++. This software works with the MS Windows operating system and the proposed solution is based on the multi-threading mechanism. It makes possible to significantly speed up the calculations. The relatively new approach is used namely the stiffness matrix method. At the very beginning, the dispersion curves are determined for the traditional composite materials of cross-ply configuration, for which the layers are made of glass fiber/epoxy resin and carbon fiber/epoxy resin. The impact of the total number of layers on the dispersion curves is investigated. Next, the influence of the thickness of the layers, which are made of aluminum alloy, on the dispersion characteristic is studied. In the second case, it is assumed that the total thickness of the composite material wall for all cases is identical.
