Opis:
The target of this paper is to provide a critical review and to enlarge the theory related to the Generalized Normal Distributions (GND). This three term (position, scale shape) distribution is based in a strong theoretical background due to Logarithm Sobolev Inequalities. Moreover, the GND is the appropriate one to support the Generalized entropy type Fisher's information measure.

Opis:
In the paper, the problem of estimation of variance components σ₁² and σ₂² by using the ML-method and REML-method in a normal mixed linear model {Y,E(Y) = Xβ, Cov(Y) = σ₁²V + σ₂²Iₙ} is considered. This paper deal with properties of estimators of variance components, particularly when an explicit form of these estimators is unknown. The conditions when the ML and REML estimators can be expressed in explicit forms are given, too. The simulation study for one-way classification unbalanced random model together with a new proposition of approximation of expectation and variances of ML and REML estimators are shown. Numerical calculations with reference to the generalized Fisher's information are also given.

Opis:
We have shown that the Schrödinger wave equation can be explained and derived from fundamental postulates that are based on the conservation of probability, significance of measurements at infinity and nature’s tendency of maintaining a system as unbiased as possible. As a reasonable measure for the local randomness, Fisher information is considered. The presented approach provides an axiomatic derivation for the Schrödinger wave equation, avoiding imperfect models borrowed from classical mechanics such as direct application of the energy conservation, statistical mechanics or vibrating string models.

Opis:
An operational model of portfolio selection is presented. The target of a risk-neutral investor is to select the best portfolio composed of assets with the highest rate of return. The term "best" means that probability of attaining the return required by an investor is the largest for all possible stopping times, for which s/he has the right to buy information concerning the random vector of returns from investments (assets).
Zaprezentowano pewien operatywny model wyboru portfela inwestycyjnego.

Opis:
The problem of determining an optimal training schedule for locally recurrent neural network is discussed. Specifically, the proper choice of the most informative measurement data guaranteeing the reliable prediction of neural network response is considered. Based on a scalar measure of performance defined on the Fisher information matrix related to the network parameters, the problem was formulated in terms of optimal experimental design. Then, its solution can be readily achieved via adaptation of effective numerical algorithms based on the convex optimization theory. Finally, some illustrative experiments are provided to verify the presented approach.

Opis:
This article outlines the application of the Bayesian method of parameter estimation to situations where the probability of age misreporting is high, leading to transfers of an individual from one age group to another. An essential requirement for Bayesian estimation is prior distribution, derived for both perfect and imperfect age reporting. As an alternative to the Bayesian methodology, a classical estimator based on the maximum likelihood principle has also been discussed. Here, the age misreporting probability matrix has been constructed using a performance indicator, which incorporates the relative performance of estimators based on age when reported correctly instead of misreporting. The initial guess of performance indicators can either be empirically or theoretically derived. The method has been illustrated by using data on Empowered Action Group (EAG) states of India from National Family Health Survey-3 (2005-2006) to estimate the total marital fertility rates. The present study reveals through both a simulation and real-life set-up that the Bayesian estimation method has been more promising and reliable in estimating fertility rates, even in situations where age misreporting is higher than in case of classical maximum likelihood estimates.

Opis:
The work treats the problem of fault detection for processes described by partial differential equations as that of maximizing the power of a parametric hypothesis test which checks whether or not system parameters have nominal values. A simple node activation strategy is discussed for the design of a sensor network deployed in a spatial domain that is supposed to be used while detecting changes in the underlying parameters which govern the process evolution. The setting considered relates to a situation where from among a finite set of potential sensor locations only a subset of them can be selected because of the cost constraints. As a suitable performance measure, the Ds-optimality criterion defined on the Fisher information matrix for the estimated parameters is applied. The problem is then formulated as the determination of the density of gauged sites so as to maximize the adopted design criterion, subject to inequality constraints incorporating a maximum allowable sensor density in a given spatial domain. The search for the optimal solution is performed using a simplicial decomposition algorithm. The use of the proposed approach is illustrated by a numerical example involving sensor selection for a two-dimensional diffusion process.

Opis:
In this paper, attention was paid to the problem of low controllability of marine medium- and high-speed engines during operation, which significantly limits the parametric diagnosis. The measurement of quickly changing temperature of engine exhaust gas was proposed, the courses of which can be a source of diagnostic information. The F statistic of the Fisher-Snedecor distribution was chosen as a statistical tool. Laboratory tests were carried out on the bench of a Farymann Diesel engine. The tests consisted of introducing the real changes in the constructional structure of the considered functional systems of the engine. Three changed parameters for the structure were reviewed: the active cross-sectional area of the inlet air channel, injector opening pressure and compression ratio. Based on the recorded plots of the quick-changing temperatures of the exhaust gases, three diagnostic measures were defined and subjected to statistical tests. The following data were averaged over one cycle for a 4-stroke piston engine operation, (1) the peakto-peak value of the exhaust gas temperature, (2) the specific enthalpy of the exhaust gas, and (3) the rate of increase and decrease in the values for the quick-changing exhaust gas temperature. In this paper will present results of the first stage of the elimination study: the one-factor statistical analysis (randomised complete plan). The next part will present the results of the second stage of studies: two-factor analysis (block randomised plan), where the significance of the effect of changing the values of the structure parameters on the diagnostic measures was analysed in the background of a variable engine load.

Opis:
The article presents a continuation of research carried out to determine the effect of input parameters (changes in engine structure parameters) on selected output parameters (diagnostic measures), based on quickly changing exhaust gas temperature. A method of determining the simultaneous influence of two input factors (the structure parameter and the engine load) on one output factor was presented, as well as an evaluation of which of the analysed input factors has a stronger influence on the output parameter. The article presents the stages of the experimental research conducted and statistical inference based on the results. Three changing parameters for the structure were reviewed: the active cross-sectional area of the inlet air channel, the injector opening pressure and the compression ratio. Based on the quickly changing temperatures of the exhaust gases, three diagnostic measures were defined and subjected to statistical tests. The following data were averaged over one cycle for a 4-stroke engine operation: the intensity of changes, the specific enthalpy and the peak-to-peak value of the exhaust gas temperature. The results of the two-factor analysis are presented. Conclusions on the analysis are given and a criterion for the selection of a diagnostic measure, depending on the analysed parameter of the structural design of the diesel engine, is proposed. The previous part of the article presented the results of the first stage of the elimination study: the one-factor statistical analysis (randomised complete plan). This paper presents the results of the second stage of the studies: two-factor analysis (block randomised plan), where the significance of the effect of changing the values of the structural parameters on the diagnostic measures were analysed in the background of a variable engine load. The next (third) part will present the results of the calculations and analysis of the interaction coefficient of significance.
