Ceramic injection moulding and gas pressure infiltration were employed for the manufacturing of alumina/AlSi10Mg composites. Porous ceramic preforms were prepared by mixing alumina powder with a multi-binder system and injection moulding of the powder polymer slurry. Then, the organic part was removed through a combination of solvent and thermal debinding, and the materials were finally sintered at different temperatures. The ceramic preforms manufactured in this way were infiltrated by an AlSi10Mg alloy. The microstructure and properties of the manufactured materials were examined using scanning electron microscopy, mercury porosimetry and bending strength testing. The results of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy observations show that the fabricated composite materials are characterised by the percolation type of the microstructure and a lack of unfilled pores with good cohesion at the metal-ceramic interfaces. This is surprising considering that over 30% of the pores are smaller than 1 μm. The results show that the bending strength of the obtained composites decreased with increasing sintering temperature of the porous preforms.

Opis:
Trials of cast steel filtration using two types of newly-developed foam filters in which carbon was the phase binding ceramic particles have been conducted. In one of the filters the source of carbon was flake graphite and coal-tar pitch, while in the other one graphite was replaced by a cheaper carbon precursor. The newly-developed filters are fired at 1000C, i.e. at a much lower temperature than the currently applied ZrO2-based filters. During filtration trials the filters were subjected to the attack of a flowing metal stream having a temperature of 1650C for 30 seconds. Characteristic of the filters’ properties before and after the filtration trial were done. It was found, that the surface reaction of the filter walls with molten metal, which resulted in local changes of the microstructure and phase composition, did not affect on expected filter lifetime and filtration did not cause secondary contamination of cast steel.

In 2014 we finished research works involved in the development of a technology for manufacturing innovative ceramic-carbon foam filters for molten metal alloys filtration, which were financed by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) from INNOTECH programme resources. A batch of the filters produced in this technology was tested in practice in domestic cast steel and cast iron foundries. The trials were successful and foundries declared their intention to purchase the newly-developed filters for the current production of casts. This provided an incentive for “Ferro-Term” Sp. z o.o. to start design works on the prototype line for a serial production of these filters. At the same time, in co-operation with a scientific consortium, including the co-authors of the technology, i.e. the Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials, Refractory Materials Division in Gliwice, Institute for the Chemical Processing of Coal in Zabrze and Foundry Research Institute in Cracow, the company made a successful attempt to raise some funds for the necessary adaptation of the developed technology from the semi-technical to industrial scale from Intelligent Development Operational Programme. In the article we have presented information on the effects of works performed within the framework of the project entitled “Modernization and adaptation of the existing technological line for purposes related to technology verification and start-up of the production of innovative ceramic-carbon filters for molten metal alloy filtration”.

The potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the four major crops in Poland. In 2013 the area used for potato cultivation in Poland reached 270 thousand hectares. Among the important factors influencing the potato yield and quality are: soil cultivation and protection of plants. One of the most essential factors affecting the potato yield and quality is fertilization. The aim of the field trials carried out in 2014 on experimental potato plots was to determine the effect of dr Green foliar feed nutrients on plant health and on potato quality and yield (Jelly variety). The results of the studies and observations revealed that the application of Dr Green Ziemniak, Dr Green Start and Dr Green Energy foliar feeds favourably affected the quality, yield and structure of Jelly potato tuber crop.
Ziemniak (Solanum tuberosum L.) jest jedną z czterech najpopularniejszych roślin uprawnych w Polsce. Wielkość produkcji ziemniaka w 2013 roku w kraju wynosiła ponad 270 tysięcy hektarów. Istotnymi czynnikami kształtującymi wielkość i jakość plonów ziemniaka są między innymi uprawa roli i ochrona plantacji. Jednakże do najważniejszych czynników mających podstawowe znaczenie w kształtowaniu ilości i jakości uzyskiwanego plonu ziemniaka jest nawożenie. Celem przeprowadzonych w 2014 roku doświadczeń mikropoletkowych było określenie wpływu nawożenia dolistnego technologią Dr Green na zdrowotność roślin oraz na jakość i wielkość plonu ziemniaka odmiany Jelly. Uzyskane wyniki badań i przeprowadzonych obserwacji wykazały, że dolistna aplikacja nawozami Dr Green Ziemniak, Dr Green Start oraz Dr Green Energy korzystnie wpłynęła na jakość, wielkość i strukturę plonu bulw badanej odmiany ziemniaka.

The Department of Geoinformatics and Cartography of the University of Wrocław, Poland, is host in¬stitution of a project, financed by the National Science Centre in Poland, whose objective is to predict riverflow in real-time. If inundation is predicted, the problem of the verification of the overbank flow prognosis arises. This verification can be attained by utilizing an unmanned aerial vehicle that may be used for remote sensing applications. The unmanned aerial vehicle in question can take sequential photos with the unprecedented resolution of 3 cm/pix. Both the resolution and the opportunity for frequent flights – due to the low cost of the entire operation – allow us to compare prediction maps showing the forecasted overbank flow during an extreme hydrological event with the true observation obtained from the air. Although such verification is site- and event-specific, it can provide us with an objective technique for checking our system in a spatial domain. The main part of the system, known as HydroProg, produces multimodel ensemble hydrograph predictions and compares single-model prognoses; visualizations of them are then published in a web map service. The spatial predictions, along with the aerial orthophoto images, will also be presented online so that the user is able to observe the functioning of the system. Regular research flights have been carried out in Kłodzko County since 2012. The study areas correspond to sites where our Partner, the County Office in Kłodzko (SW Poland) – owner of the Local System for Flood Monitoring in Kłodzko County – has automatic gauges, and thus spatially reflect the hydrologic observation network. The aforementioned aerial module is experimental and will be incorporated into the entire system.

The aim of the study was to test the influence of the mineral salt composition of the medium on in vitro multiplication and growth of kohleria shoots. Shoot tips were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) (full- and half strength), Gamborg et al. (B₅), Nitsch and Nitsch (NN) or Lloyd and McCown (WPM) media supplemented with BA 1 mg·dm⁻³. The influence of passage time on the induction and growth of shoots on the medium containing half strength of MS mineral salts and BA 1 mg·dm⁻³, GA₃ 1 mg·dm⁻³ was also studied. The explants used in the experiments were obtained from aseptically grown shoot clusters. A significant influence of the medium type and the time of propagation on the number, length and weight of axillary shoots was observed. The medium containing full or half strength of mineral salts according to MS was the best. The propagation of kohleria shoots should take place at 4-week passages.
Celem badań było określenie wpływu zestawu soli mineralnych na namnażanie i wzrost pędów Kohleria amabilis (Planch, et Linden) Fritsch. Wierzchołkowe fragmenty pędów wykładano na pożywki zawierające zestawy soli mineralnych wg: Murashige i Skoog (MS) (pełny zestaw lub ½), Gamborg i in. (B₅), Nitsch i Nitsch (NN) lub Lloyd i McCown (WPM). Pożywki uzupełniono BA 1 mg·dm⁻³. Zbadano również wpływ długości trwania pasażu na pożywce zawierającej ½ MS oraz BA 1 mg·dm⁻³ i GA₃ 1 mg·dm⁻³ na indukcję i wzrost pędów. Eksplantaty wykorzystane do doświadczeń pochodziły z ustabilizowanych kultur in vitro. Wykazano istotny wpływ rodzaju pożywki i długości trwania pasażu na liczbę, wzrost i świeżą masę nowych pędów. Najlepsze były zestawy soli mineralnych ½ MS i MS. Namnażanie pędów kohlerii powinno odbywać się w odstępach 4-tygodniowych.

Surfaces of amorphous ribbon Fe70V10 B20 were observed by means of the scanning tunneling microscope before and after the annealing in vacuum. The topographic images of the air-side surfaces after annealing are similar in the x-y plane and different in the z-direction. From the scanning tunnelling microscope images some information on the crystallization of amorphous ribbons can be deduced.

Proton exchange between spin groups of the solid matrix of hydrated granular potato starch and water was studied using the 2D time domain NMR. The proton spin-spin relaxation time T$\text{}_{2}$, and spin-lattice relaxation time T$\text{}_{1}$ (selective and non-selective pulse sequences) were measured at room temperature. The observed spin relaxation results were analysed for exchange assuming a two-site exchange model (between water and solid matrix of starch). In this analysis we determined the intrinsic spin-lattice relaxation time for water protons (49 ms) and solid starch matrix protons (172 ms), as well as the water-starch magnetization exchange rate (86 s$\text{}^{-1}$).

Opis:
The paper discusses tests for effectiveness of three antibacterial substances for application in the national oil and gas industry. The substances were tested with reference to active cultures of microorganisms. These cultures were isolated, inter alia, from drilling fluids, produced waters and extraction sludge, and then multiplied and used in tests discussed in this publication. The tests demonstrated differences in particular tested substances in respect of effectiveness of their impact on aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and fungi. The results of the work will be used in industrial treatments in order to eliminate biogenic contamination, counteract biodegradation of drilling muds, and also for disinfection of reservoirs designed for storing water and other technological fluids.

The organic matter production/respiration balance in the coastal water column was examined, both the primary production and community respiration being measured with the oxygen light-and-dark bottle method. Community respiration (CR) was always lower than the gross primary production (GPP) measured at a standard light intensity of 390 μE m−2 s−1, which amounted, on average, to 30% of GPP. During most of the in situ sampling period, the coastal system (6–7 m depth) was found to be autotrophic, with depth-integrated GPP ranging from 6.7 mmoles O2 m−2 d−1 in December to 214.2 mmoles O2 m−2 d−1 in August, and CR ranging correspondingly from 6.0 to 177.7 mmoles O2 m−2 d−1. The essence of the seed preparation process is the treatment of seed to protect plants against soil pathogens or seed-borne pathogens, as well as against pests attacking plants. Seed fertilizers are mineral fertilizers containing nutrients that, when applied to seed during seed preparation, become readily available to the developing root system during germination and initial plant growth. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effect of Dr Green Prime seed fertilizer on energy and germination ability of wheat. Within the work wheat seeds in 5 variants were analysed, e.g., with the application of Dr Green Prime seed fertilizer, seed dressing A and fungicide A. The most kernels have germinated in the variant that has been treated with seed dressing A and Dr Green Prime. Only a small level of mould infestation or absence of the infestation was observed for seeds treated with seed dressing A. Aside from germination energy, ability and the level of infestation with moulds, the cotyledons and roots were weighed 12 days after the start experiment. The greatest mass of cotyledons and roots was observed for treatment with seed dressing A and Dr Green Prime 5.5 and 1.7 g, respectively.

Paper presents results of experimental studies of electrical conductivity of yttrium aluminum garnet-ethylene glycol (Y₃Al₅O₁₂-EG, YAG-EG) nanofluids, which were prepared by dispersing commercially available nanoparticles manufactured by Baikowski (Annecy, France, ID LOT: 18513) in ethylene glycol. The electrical conductivity was measured using conductivity meter MultiLine 3410 (WTW GmBH, Weilheim, Germany). In turn the temperature was stabilized in a water bath MLL 547 (AJL Electronic, Cracow, Poland). The electrical conductivity of YAG-EG nanofluids with various mass concentrations form 5% to 20% was investigated at different ambient temperatures. The experimental data indicate that changing volume fraction of YAG nanoparticles in ethylene glycol cause change of electrical conductivity of nanofluid. It was also presented that electrical conductivity depends on temperature of materials.

Nanofluids are suspensions of nanometrical size particles in a liquid base, which is usually water, oil or ethylene glycol. The potential practical use of nanofluids caused in recent years a considerable intensification of research into their properties. The most widely studied of physical properties include the fluid rheology, thermal conductivity and electrical parameters. The paper presents electrical properties of aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) nanofluids based on ethylene glycol (EG). Nanoparticles used to produce nanosuspensions employed in measurements have size between 100-300 nm. Electrical properties was investigated in a wide range of temperatures (-10°C-55°C) and frequencies (0.02-200 kHz) using a measuring LCR bridge connected to a temperature stabilization system based on liquid nitrogen and Peltier element.

In this work, single-phase $La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}Zr_{0.5}Co^{2+}_{0.2}Co^{3+}_{0.3}O_3$ and $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ti_{0.5}Co^{2+}_{0.3}Co^{3+}_{0.2}O_3$ ceramics with the stable perovskite structure were utilized for fabrication of multilayer negative temperature coefficient thermistors. The number and thicknesses of ceramic layers were adjusted to attain suitable resistances in a desired temperature range. Scanning electron microscopy studies revealed a dense, fine-grained microstructure of ceramic layers, lack of delaminations and cracks at ceramic layer-conductive layer boundaries and a good cooperation with conductive layers. The temperature coefficients of resistance of the fabricated multilayer thermistors were changing from - 13 to - 1%/K in the temperature range from - 55 to 400C.

The nanofluids have been produced by two-step method with the use of commercially available nanoparticles. Dynamic viscosity curves and dependence of viscosity on temperature for these materials have been measured. It has shown that with higher concentration of nanoparticles in the suspension, these nanofluids exhibit the non-Newtonian flow and it can be considered as shear-thinning liquids. The effect of temperature on the dynamic viscosity in Al₂O₃-EG nanofluids can be modelled with the use of Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann expression.
