Opis:
Taekwondo is famous for its powerful kicking techniques and the roundhouse kick is the most frequently used one. In earlier literature, the influence of a physical target (exiting or not) on kicking power generation has not been given much attention. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the kinematics of roundhouse kick execution and its factors related to power generation. 6 ITF taekwondo practitioners voluntarily participated in this study. They were asked to perform kicks with and without a physical target. The first kick aimed at breaking a board while the second one was a kick into the air. A Smart-D motion capture system (BTS S.p.A., Italy) was used to quantitatively determine their kinematic characteristics during each kick. The main findings showed that kicks aiming at a breaking board were significantly slower than kicks without a physical target (maximal kick-foot velocities were 10.61 ± 0.86 m/s and 14.61 ± 0.67 m/s, respectively, p < 0.01), but the kicking time of the former was shorter (0.58 ± 0.01 s and 0.67 ± 0.01, respectively, p < 0.01). The results suggest that a physical target will negatively influence the kick-foot velocity, which is not necessarily a disadvantage for creating a high quality kick. Possible motor control mechanisms are discussed for the phenomenon. The study made it clear: trainings with and without physical targets would develop different motor control patterns. More studies are needed for identifying the effectiveness of different controls and efficiencies of their training.

Introduction. Military actions and injuries sustained make returning to ordinary life and everyday routine a challenge which soldiers need to face. Research on this subject shows that the consequences of post-traumatic stress extends further, beyond the victim’s everyday life, resulting in health problems and problems with social relationships. Objective. The aim was to gather knowledge of the ways of expressing anger in a group of hospitalized Ukrainian postdeployed servicemen. A research study was conducted concentrating on the two forms of managing anger, i.e. releasing or suppressing anger, and posing the following question: ‘How are they manifested in the hospitalized Ukrainian combat veterans? Materials and method. The study included 35 hospitalized soldiers who had taken part in military operations in Ukraine (age: 34.61±9.23; age range: 21–56 years of age). The research was conducted in the hospitals in Lutsk. Measurements were conducted with the use of certified psychological tests, i.e. Anger Expression Scale (AES), medical documentation and oral reports given by the persons conducting the study. Results. The average value of the suppressed anger indicator was 31.57±6.23 (p<0.05); respective value of the released anger 24.37 ±6.34 (p<0.05). For released anger, results at the level of the upper quartile (Q3=28) and above were obtained by 28.57 % of the soldiers in the study, while in the case of repressed anger, the results obtained at the level of the upper quartile (Q3 = 36) and above that value were obtained by 34.27% of the soldiers/patients. Conclusions. The results obtained show that in the group of hospitalized patients/soldiers there is a higher level of repressed anger intensity than in the case of released anger. The study survey suggests that in their case expressing anger is usually a reaction to somebody’s inappropriate-in-their-eyes behaviour. Curbing anger takes on various forms, from trying not to express annoyance and/or rage, to trying to keep calm in spite of growing anger caused by other people’s behaviours.

Purpose: The current study aimed to quantify the main influences and the interactions (joint effects) of gender, leg and type of target on the biomechanics of front kick quality. Through the quantification, we tried to identify the relevant factors related to the kick accuracy and maximum velocity for coaching practice. Methods: A ten-camera NIR VICON MX40 motion capture system (250 Hz) was used to determine the kicking foot maximum velocity from two well-trained subject groups (8 males and 6 females). Each subject performed both left and right front kicks in a lateral standing position into the air (without a physical target), to a board, to a table tennis ball and to a training shield. The target were set on a height corresponding to a height of solar plexus of each participant. Results: The results showed that all the three factors (gender, leg and type of target) have significant influences on kicking speed ( p < 0.001) and significant interaction (joint effect) was only found between gender and target ( p < 0.001). Further analysis revealed that the males’ kicking maximum velocity was affected more by board, while females’ one was affected by the size of the target. Conclusions: The results would seem to suggest that, for males, kick-to-a-board may be the more effective method for increasing kick quality, compared to other type of target. For females, kick-to-a-small-ball appears to be effective method for increasing kick maximum velocity.

Opis:
In the following article there has been assessed the influence of the spray angle on sprinkling intensity distribution in the spray water stream generated by the selected fire-hose nozzle PWT 52/1-2-3-4 type TURBOMASTER produced by AWG company. The research was performed in the open air in August and September 2017. The field of measurements was located in front of the gate of The Firefighting and rescue equipment laboratory. A slightly modified test stand, which is normally used for researching fire-hose nozzles, was used to carry out the experiments. The measurements of the sprinkling intensity were performed on the basis of the authorial improved test methodology patterned upon the guidelines included in the old Polish PN-89/M-51028 standard. The parameter of sprinkling intensity has been assessed in weight and volumetric way using the measuring containers. The digital angle measuring device was used to measure the spray angle. The following article presents only the results of research, which was carried out for two water flow rates 200 dm3 /min and 400 dm3 /min and three spray angles: 30°, 60° and 90°, but all experiments were performed for two different water flow rates (200 dm3 /min and 400 dm3 /min) and six spray angles (15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90°). Based on the results of the conducted research it has been clearly demonstrated that the spray angle is a very important parameter which has an influence on sprinkling intensity distribution in the spray water streams produced by the selected fire-hose nozzles. It was observed that along with the changes of the spray angle the values of many parameters, which describe sprinkling intensity distribution, have been changed. The following parameters have been adopted for this research: the value of the sprinkling area and its dimensions (shape), the maximum throw (range) of the produced spray streams and the maximum value of the sprinkling intensity. In the last part of this article a summary and some conclusions have been made, of both, academic significance and practical character. In addition, the necessity and validity of the subsequent research has been indicated, in particular, using modern fire-hose nozzles.
Do przeprowadzenia doświadczeń wykorzystano częściowo zmodyfikowane stanowisko laboratoryjne, służące nominalnie do badania prądownic wodnych. Pomiarów intensywności zraszania dokonano wykorzystując autorsko udoskonaloną metodę badawczą pochodzącą ze starej polskiej normy PN-89/M-51028. Parametr ten określano w sposób wagowo-objętościowy z użyciem pojemników pomiarowych. Do pomiaru kąta rozpylenia wykorzystano kątomierz elektroniczny. Do przeprowadzenia analizy przyjęto następujące wskaźniki: powierzchnię zraszania i jej wymiary (kształt), maksymalną długość rzutu prądu rozproszonego oraz maksymalną intensywności zraszania. Na koniec sformułowano wnioski istotne zarówno w aspekcie teoretycznym, jak i praktycznym. Ponadto wskazano konieczność i zasadność prowadzenia dalszych prac badawczych, zwłaszcza z użyciem nowoczesnych prądownic wodnych.

Based on the reflectance spectra for radiation wavelength from about 380 nm to 1.8 μm, the optical interference effects in vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes films are studied. We performed the measurements for two complementary polarization states of incoming radiation (s- and p-polarization) for nanotubes arrays sparse enough for interference effects to be possible to observe. By performing the measurements for different wavelengths and incidence angles, we mapped the evolution of interference maxima/minima of reflectance signal. The results from this novel approach indicate that for the radiation polarized perpendicularly to tubes axis (s-polarization), the real part of the effective refractive index can be estimated from the classic Fabry-Pérot model. In order to describe the differences between spectra obtained for s- and p-polarizations we discuss the most important factors that affect the reflectance signal in case of investigated nanotubes arrays.

Organotin compounds (OTC), as well as metals, are toxic to many organisms. Even at very low concentrations OTC and metals can have several negative effects. The paper discusses key issues relating to the location of harbours in the coastal zone (including near the river mouths and semi‐closed access to the sea) and the pollution of harbour sediments with heavy metals (e.g. zinc, copper, nickel and lead) and organotin derivatives (e.g. butyltin, phenyltin, octyltin, and tricyclohexyltin), using the examples of the Gdańsk and Gdynia ports. The authors have described key spatial factors of the two ports which largely determine sedimentation processes. It has been shown that the heavy metals content in the sediments of the Port of Gdańsk does not exceed the concentration values permitted by Polish law, however, the problem with the establishment of standard concentration levels for organotin derivatives remains.

Magnetic properties of MnAs nanocrystals embedded in GaAs are analyzed in the frame of phenomenological model proposed by Sasaki for ferritin superparamagnets. Our calculations explain qualitatively experimental data of magnetization versus temperature, obtained according to zero-field-cooled and field-cooled protocols. They show dynamics of magnetization of MnAs nanocrystals in range of temperature from 10 K to 320 K. There is transition from state in which very slow dynamics is observed (frozen state) to state in which dynamics is fast (quasi-superparamagnetic state).

The static dielectric constants and the optical birefringence for four members of the homologous series of bicyclo[2,2,2]octane derivatives with -NCS terminal group (pentyl to octyl) have been measured as a function of temperature. From the dielectric anisotropy, the optical birefringence as well as the polarized absorption spectra of the dichroic dye dissolved in the liquid crystalline host the order parameter has been determined. The results obtained by using various experimental methods have been compared with those calculated from the Maier-Saupe mean field theory. It has been found that the order parameter for the successive homologues shows alternation similar to that exhibited for the nematic-isotropic transition temperature.

Richter’s syndrome (RS) is a rare complication in which chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) transforms into a more aggressive type of lymphoma – diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), or Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL). The review describes the clinical case of a patient with CLL and RS diagnosis. A computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdominal cavity detected numerous normodense areas in the liver. Simultaneously, ultrasound examination (USG) of the thyroid revealed the presence of a solid hypoechogenic lump. The material sampled from closed biopsies of liver and thyroid in both cases allowed the diagnosis of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The liver and the thyroid are particularly rare locations of RS. However, those cases allowed the conclusion that RS may occur even in a very unexpected and less probable location.

We present experimental evidence that at high pressures indium donors in CdTe localize electrons in spatially correlated manner. We have studied Hall mobility, μ$\text{}_{H}$, as a function of electron concentration, n$\text{}_{H}$, at T=77 K. Changes of n$\text{}_{H}$ have been achieved by two methods. High pressure freeze-out of electrons onto localized states of In-donors leads to the mobility enhancement with respect to the situation when n$\text{}_{H}$ has been modified by means of a subsequent annealing of the sample. As a result, depending on the degree of spatial correlations in the impurity charges arrangement, different values of μ$\text{}_{H}$ correspond to the same value of n$\text{}_{H}$. The variation of mobility with electron concentration suggests that the localized state of In-donor represents likely negatively charged DX state.
