Opis:
This article deals with literary pathography, i.e. texts which purport to project rage or a mental disorder, and use narrative strategies adopted specifically for that purpose. The analysis is focused on two novels by Aleksandra Zielińska, Przypadek Alicji (Alicja’s Case) and Bura i szał (Bura and Rage) treated as literary representations of the protagonists' mental condition. The literary character of these 'records' is revealed by multiple intertextual tropes and poetic devices that deconstruct the cultural stereotype of female rage. Consequently, Aleksandra Zielińska's novels should be seen as projections of a fractured female subject (un sujet divisé) fixed on her somatic vulnerability, driven by an urge to cry out her affliction, trauma and rage, unease about woman-to-woman relations, and the pressure of erratic affective impulses.

Opis:
This article deals with recent Polish herstory narrations, i.e. works of fi ction that, while relying on distinctly literary techniques and devices, foreground the feminine experience of history, and moreover, may be associated with the so-called Herstory Turn in Polish humanities and cultural studies. This category of fi ctions includes also novels in which the herstory narration belongs to a female subject created by a male author, notably Jacek Dehnel’s Abbess Macryna (Matka Makryna), Ignacy Karpowicz’s Little Sonya (Sońka) and Jarosław Kamiński’s Just Lola (Tylko Lola). These three novels are analyzed with the aim of showing how their narrative strategy foregrounds the women narrators/main characters (acting as history’s true subjects), identifying the marks of authorial imitation of the feminine discourse, and, fi nally, asking the question about man’s status in an ostensibly feminine text. It seems that one way of answering it would be to point to the male author’s validating the feminine experience of history and ensuring that it can be heard.

Opis:
Solid-phase extraction (SPE) is simple and inexpensive sample preparation procedure which can be applied for the isolation/fractionation of essential oil compounds from wide variety of samples, such as foodstuffs, biological and environmental. Due to the complex nature of the examined matrices and frequently low concentration level of target components, analytical procedures require the use of initial sample preparation stage. The paper shows the possibility of essential oil components fractionation from different plant materials using SPE method. The results presented in this paper shows that the proposed SPE procedure allows for easy and total fractionation of essential oil constituents (especially low-molecular oxygen compounds) from the sample matrix.

Opis:
A key role in the development of smart Internet of Things (IoT) solutions is played by wireless communication technologies, especially LPWAN (Low-Power Wide-Area Network), which are becoming increasingly popular due to their advantages: long range, low power consumption and the ability to connect multiple edge devices. However, in addition to the advantages of communication and low power consumption, the security of transmitted data is also important. End devices very often have a small amount of memory, which makes it impossible to implement advanced cryptographic algorithms on them. The article analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of solutions based on LPWAN communication and reviews platforms for IoT device communication in the LoRaWAN (LoRa Wide Area Network) standard in terms of configuration complexity. It describes how to configure an experimental LPWAN system being built at the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications at Poznan University of Technology for research related to smart buildings.

Opis:
Objectives: To evaluate the results of treatment in a group of patients undergoing cataract phacoemulsification with sulcus implantation of single-piece foldable intraocular lenses. Material and methods: A total of 24 eyes of 24 patients, who underwent cataract phacoemulsification in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw in 2008–2015 was included. As a result of intraoperative rupture of the posterior lens capsule, single-piece foldable intraocular lens was implanted into the ciliary sulcus. Visual acuity, intraocular pressure, anterior and posterior segment of the eyes were assessed before the surgery, on days 1 and 7 after the surgery and in the period of 6 to 84 months after the surgery. Results: During the follow-up period from 6 months to 7 years, an improvement in BCVA was shown by an average of 0.2 on the Snellen chart. Complication included: pigment dispersion (42%), increased intraocular pressure or the need to modify antiglaucoma treatment (25%), iris transillumination defect (17%). Conclusions: In the case of cataract phacoemulsification complicated by rupture of the posterior lens capsule, sulcus implantation of a single-piece foldable intraocular lens improves visual acuity, but poses a risk of developing secondary glaucoma. If we choose such a solution, we should provide patients with the possibility of regular checkups. Due to relatively frequent complications, in cases of cataract surgery with posterior capsule rupture, the authors recommend choosing other fixation methods.
Cel pracy: Ocena odległych wyników leczenia w grupie pacjentów poddanych operacji fakoemulsyfikacji zaćmy z fiksacją na torebkę przednią jednoczęściowych zwijalnych soczewek wewnątrzgałkowych. Materiał i metody: Grupę badaną stanowiło 24 oczu 24 pacjentów, którzy w latach 2008–2015 zostali poddani operacji fakoemulsyfikacji zaćmy na Oddziale Okulistyki Centralnego Szpitala Klinicznego MSWiA w Warszawie. Wnioski: W przypadku zabiegu fakoemulsyfikacji zaćmy powikłanego przerwaniem torebki tylnej soczewki implantacja jednoczęściowej zwijanej soczewki wewnątrzgałkowej do bruzdy ciała rzęskowego zapewnia poprawę ostrości wzroku, jednak stwarza ryzyko rozwoju jaskry wtórnej.

Opis:
Until recently, green tea polyphenols were considered strong antioxidants. However, the latest reports have revealed that bioflavonoids can play a multiple role in anticancer therapy, including the inhibition of cell proliferation and generation of the oxidative stress in a dose-dependent manner. The presented research was designed to examine the potential of the green tea (±)-catechin as a reinforcement of the electrochemotherapy (ECT) with cisplatin in pancreatic cancer in vitro. The study was performed on two cell lines of the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) - parental EPP85-181P and multidrug-resistant EPP85-181RNOV. Prior to the ECT protocol the cells were preincubated with high or low concentration of catechin for 2 or 24 hours, respectively. We assessed the influence of preincubation on the cisplatin toxicity with and without electroporation (EP), the electrosensitivity of PDA cell lines and the uptake of the daunorubicin and propidium iodide. Additionally, we evaluated the antioxidative properties of catechin by the measurement of the ROS-related fluorescence and the immunoreactivity of the oxidative stress-related enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD2) and glutathione S-transferase (GST). We found that co-treatment with catechin can firmly enhance the efficacy of electroporation with cisplatin in vitro. More favorable effect was obtained for 2-hour incubation, which indicates the involvement of the transcriptional-independent mechanisms of catechin action. The effect may be partially explained by the increased oxidative stress level, which was higher in multidrug-resistant cells. However, further studies on cisplatin-catechin interplay and the thorough examination of the catechin-cell membrane interaction need to be performed.

Opis:
Introduction. Low anterior resection of the rectum (LAR) is a treatment of choice in patients with diagnosed low rectal cancer. Rectal cancer surgery has a close relationship with the urinary-sexual organs and also with related nerves and nerve plexus. Thus, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves of the pelvic area may be damaged. As a result of this, the important point is the sexual function loss following rectal surgeries. The aim of the study was to investigate the sexual disorders in patients with rectal cancer who underwent LAR. Materials and methods. In this retrospective study the sexual activity, comfort of the experience, quality of sexual life (QoSL) during 3 periods were analyzed: before surgery, a month after and half a year after surgery. Analysis of demographic characteristics, comorbidities, previous surgeries, toumor characteristics and adjuvant therapy as was performed. Results. Most patients (64/100, 64%) expressed that LAR operation has strongly affected their QoSL, 32 patients reported the mild decrease in QoSL, while only 4 patients stated that did not experience any changes in QoSL. QoSL was assessed in 3 different periods of time: before the operation, 1 month after and 6 months after the operation (22,6±3.7 vs. 11.3±7,9 vs. 17,0±6.3; p<0.0001 respectively). The decreased QoSL one and six months after the surgery were significantly lower in patients with diagnosed hypertension and higher BMI (p=0.0283). Conclusions. Sexual disorders after LAR for rectal cancer are often underestimated and it is very important to be aware of them. In our study, it was determined that male sex, higher BMI and hypertension are related to impair of sexual dysfunction after LAR. We observed that the most severe complaints related to sexual activity occur one month after the procedure, after 6 months in most of the patients' sexual disorders were decreased approaching the initial state.
