Opis:
We study the shape differentiability of a cost function for the flow of an incompressible viscous fluid of power-law type. The fluid is confined to a bounded planar domain surrounding an obstacle. For smooth perturbations of the shape of the obstacle we express the shape gradient of the cost function which can be subsequently used to improve the initial design.

Opis:
The energy functional for an elliptic boundary value problem in two spatial dimensions is considered. The variations of shape functional resulting from the small shape-topological domain perturbations with the holes and inclusions in elastic body are determined. The exact representation of solutions to the boundary value problem is exploited for the purposes of asymptotic analysis. To this end the perturbed solutions of the boundary value problem are Expressem as the minimizers of perturbed energy functionals. The proposed method of asymptotic analysis results in the double asymptotic expansions, with respect to the size of a hole and to the contrast parameter of an inclusion with respect to the matrix, of solutions to the boundary value problems as well as of the associated energy functional. The shape sensitivity analysis of the energy functional with respekt of the boundary variations of an inclusion is performed. The further asymptotic analysis allows for the limit passage with the size of inclusion to zero. In this way the topological derivative of the energy functional is obtained. The proposed analysis can be used in the shape and topology optimum design for elastic bodies governed by the stationary as well as by the time dependent elasticity boundary value problems in the framework of selfadjoint extensions of elliptic operators.

We study a thermo-mechanical system consisting of an elastic membrane to which a shape-memory rod is glued. The slow movements of the membrane are controlled by the motions of the attached rods. A quasi-static model is used. We include the elastic feedback of the membrane on the rods. This results in investigating an elliptic boundary value problem in a domain W is subset R2 with a cut, coupled with non-linear equations for the vertical motions of the rod and the temperature on the rod. We prove the existence of a unique global weak solution to this problem using a fixed point argument.

We introduce a model in which a wire made of shape memory alloy is used to passively damp the vibrations of a membrane. The mechanical energy of the membrane is transformed into heat via the thermo-elastic properties of the shape memory alloy. We describe the model and prove existence and uniqueness of solutions. Finally we will show that for suitable initial and boundary conditions, the energy of the entire system is a decreasing function.

We consider elliptic problems on graphs under given loads and bilateral contact conditions. We ask the question: which graph is best suited to sustain the loads and the constraints. More precisely, given a cost function we may look at a multiple node of the graph with edge degree q and ask as to whether that node should be resolved into a number of nodes of edge degree less than q, in order to decrease the cost. With this question in mind, we are looking into the sensitivity analysis of a graph carrying a second order elliptic equation with respect to changing its topology by releasing nodes with high edge degree or including an edge. With the machinery at hand developed here, we are in the position to define the topological gradient of an elliptic problem on a graph.

The compressive strength, open porosity and water absorption were also determined and compared with the results obtained for the commercial aggregate. Opis:
The dynamic behavior of a rotor consisting of two bladed discs on a solid shaft is considered. The effect of shaft flexibility on the dynamic characteristics of the bladed discs and the coupling effects between the shaft and bladed disc modes are investigated. Results presented for various cases with differing blade flexibility show clearly the coupling effects in a bladed disc-shaft system. Interference diagrams are developed, from which the dynamic behavior of a system can be predicted for differing flexibility relationships between the solid shafts and the bladed discs. In this study, the global rotating mode shapes of flexible bladed disc-shaft assemblies have been calculated. Rotational effects such as centrifugal stiffening have been accounted for, and all the possible couplings between the flexible parts have been allowed. Gyroscopic effects have been included in the shaft with two discs. Calculated natural frequencies obtained from the blade, shaft, bladed disc and shaft with two discs have been checked to determine resonance conditions and coupling effects. The calculations have shown the influence of the shaft on the natural frequencies of the bladed discs up to one nodal diameter frequencies. The torsional frequency of the shaft with two discs is coupled with the zero nodal diameter modes of the single bladed discs. The bending modes of the shaft are coupled with one nodal diameter modes of the bladed discs. It is shown that including the shaft in the bladed discs model is important from a designer's point of view and can change the spectrum of frequencies considerably.

In the paper the existence of a solution to the thress-dimensional elastoplastic problem with the Prandtl-Reuss constitutive law and the Neumann boundary conditions is established. The proof is based on a suitable combination of the parabolic regularization of equations and the penalty method for the elastoplastic yield condition. The method is applied in the case of the domain with smooth boundary as well as in the case of an interior crack. It is shown that the weak solutions to the elastoplastic problem satisfying the variational inequality meet all boundary conditions.

The topological derivative is introduced for the extremal values of cost functionals for control problems. The optimal control problem considered in the paper is defined for the elliptic equation which models the deflection of an elastic membrane. The derivative measures the sensitivity of the optimal value of the cost with respect to changes in topology. A change in topology means removing a small ball from the interior of the domain of integration. The topological derivative can be used for obtaining the numerical solutions of the shape optimization problems.

The paper can be considered as a complement to previous papers of the authors. An insight into applied asymptotic analysis of boundary value problems in singularly perturbed domains is presented. Self-adjoint extensions are constructed for a family of boundary value problems in domains with a thin ligament and an asymptotic analysis of a Lq-continuous functional is performed. The results can be used in numerical methods of shape and topology optimization of integral functionals for elliptic equations. At some stage of optimization process the singular perturbation of geometrical domain by an addition of thin ligament can be replaced by its approximation denned for the appropriate self-adjoint extension of the elliptic operator. In this way the topology variation of current geometrical domain can be determined and used e.g., in the level-set type methods of shape optimization.

Opis:
The Topological Derivative has been recognized as a powerful tool in obtaining the optimal topology for several kinds of engineering problems. This derivative provides the sensitivity of the cost functional for a boundary value problem for nucleation of a small hole or a small inclusion at a given point of the domain of integration. In this paper, we present a topological asymptotic analysis with respect to the size of singular domain perturbation for a coupled nonlinear PDEs system with an obstacle on the boundary. The domain decomposition method, referring to the SteklovPoincar´epseudo-differential operator, is employed for the asymptotic study of boundary value problem with respect to the size of singular domain perturbation. The method is based on the observation that the known expansion of the energy functional in the ring coincides with the expansion of the Steklov-Poincar´e operator on the boundary of the truncated domain with respekt to the small parameter, which measures the size of perturbation. In this way, the singular perturbation of the domain is reduced to the regular perturbation of the Steklov-Poincar´e map ping for the ring. The topological derivative for a tracking type shape functional is evaluated so as to obtain the useful formula for application in the numerical methods of shape and topology optimization.

The stability issue of critical shapes for shape optimization problems with the state function given by a solution to the Neumann problem for the Laplace equation is considered. To this end, the properties of the shape Hessian evaluated at critical shapes are analysed. First, it is proved that the stability cannot be expected for the model problem. Then, the new estimates for the shape Hessian are derived in order to overcome the classical two norms-discrepancy well know in control problems, Malanowski (2001). In the context of shape optimization, the situation is similar compared to control problems, actually, the shape Hessian can be coercive only in the norm strictly weaker with respect to the norm of the second order differentiability of the shape functional. In addition, it is shown that an appropriate regularization makes possible the stability of critical shapes.

As a result, the existence of the strong material derivatives for the weak solutions of the problem is shown. The result can be used to establish the shape differentiability for a broad class of shape functionals for the models of Fourier-Navier-Stokes flows under the electromagnetic field.
