A pot experiment was conducted in the green house to determine the effect of municipal solid waste on the growth of maize (zea mays). Growth parameters of percentage emergence, plant height, leaf area and number of levers per plant were collect and subjected into statistical analysis, using ANOVA and fisher’s L.S.D. at 5 % probability level. Plant growth parameters decreased with increase in cropping cycle. Similarly, maize grown on dumpsite soils did better than the control soil samples. It show increase in plant height, leaf area and number of leaves per plant at a range of 16.82 cm to 12.87 cm, 5 to 4 and 64.69 cm to 59.88 cm for the dumpsite and control samples respectively. Soil PH, organic matter (OM), total Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Sodium (Na) and Effective Cat-ion Exchange Capacity (ECEC) decreased with increase in cropping cycle respectively. The Dumpsite soil sample recorded higher mean values than the control (P < 0.05). There is every indication that municipal solid waste is beneficial to plant if only proper and careful sorting and separation of hazardous waste is done.

Field trials were conducted during 2011 and 2012 cropping seasons at the Teaching and Research Farm of the University of Agriculture Makurdi, Benue State located in Southern Guinea Savanna of Nigeria. The objective of the study was to evaluate the response of some improved sweet potato varieties planted at three densities to intercropping with soybean. The experiment was a 2x3x3 split-split plot laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The main plot consisted of two cropping systems [sole cropping (sweet potato, soybean) and intercropping (sweet potato + soybean). The sub-plot consisted of three sweet potato varieties (CIP440037, NRSP/05/007C and CIP440141). The sub-sub-plot treatment comprised of three sweet potato planting densities (25,000 plants/ha, 33,000 plants/ha and 50,000 plants/ha). Intercropping severely depressed the yields of both sweet potato varieties and the soybean component, such that intercrop yields were rarely above 50% of sole crop yields, irrespective of the sweet potato variety used. The number and weight of the sweet potato component was not significantly affected at the planting density of 50,000 plants/ha. Indices used to measure intercrop advantage showed that intercropping these sweet potato varieties with soybean was biologically efficient and percentage land saved varied from 23.08 and 32.43. Soybean was more competitive than sweet potato at all densities tested.

The article reviews the range of lactose-free products, analyzing the information placed on the label in selected stationary and online stores in Poland. 75 lactose-free dairy products were identified, including pasteurized and UHT milk, natural, drinkable and flavored yoghurt, cream, quark cheese, cottage cheese, ripened cheese, spreadable fats and infant formula. It has been shown that online stores were characterized by greater availability of lactose-free products. Nevertheless, the range of these products in stationary stores is constantly increasing. Among the analyzed groups of lactose-free dairy products, the most easily available products were milk and flavored yoghurt. Cottage cheese and cream were the least available. The most lactose-free products available on the market were produced by the Mlekovita Dairy Cooperative. There were no significant differences in composition and nutritional value between the lactose-free and conventional products. However, the differentiating factor was the price of products, which in the case of lactose-free products was from 4 to even 166% higher than in the case of conventional products. There has also been an increasing availability of alternative products for lactose-free dairy products on the Polish market, i.e. drinks or yoghurts based on vegetable raw materials, as well as products in which lactose-free milk was used as an additive i.e. ice-cream, cakes, chocolate.
W artykule dokonano przeglądu asortymentu produktów bezlaktozowych, analizując informacje umieszczone na etykiecie, w wybranych sklepach stacjonarnych i internetowych na terenie Polski. Zidentyfikowano 75 produktów mlecznych bezlaktozowych, wśród których znajdowały się mleka pasteryzowane i UHT, jogurty naturalne, pitne oraz smakowe, śmietany, twarogi, serki wiejskie, sery żółte, tłuszcze do smarowania oraz odżywki dla niemowląt. Wykazano, że większą dostępnością produktów bezlaktozowych cechowały się sklepy internetowe. Niemniej jednak asortyment tych produktów w sklepach stacjonarnych ciągle wzrasta. Wśród analizowanych grup produktów mlecznych bezlaktozowych najłatwiej dostępnymi produktami było mleko oraz jogurty smakowe. Najmniejszą dostępnością cechowały się serki wiejskie i śmietany. Najwięcej dostępnych na rynku produktów bezlaktozowych wyprodukowanych zostało przez Spółdzielnię Mleczarską Mlekovita. Nie wykazano istotnych różnic w składzie oraz wartości odżywczej pomiędzy produktami bezlaktozowymi a konwencjonalnymi. Czynnikiem różnicującym była cena produktów, która w przypadku produktów bezlaktozowych była od 4 do nawet 166% wyższa od konwencjonalnych produktów. Zaobserwowano również, wzrastającą dostępność na polskim rynku produktów alternatywnych dla mlecznych produktów bezlaktozowych, tj. napoi czy jogurtów na bazie surowców roślinnych, jak również produktów, w których zastosowano jako dodatek mleko bez laktozy, tj. lodów, ciast, czekolad.

Field experiments were conducted to assess the effect of time of introduction of maize and cropping pattern on two varieties of soybean in a soybean/maize intercrop in 2007 and 2008 seasons at the University of Agriculture Makurdi. Three periods of introduction of maize were evaluated: (i) planting at the same time with soybean;(ii) introduction of maize two weeks after planting soybean and (iii) introduction of maize four weeks after planting soybean. There were five cropping patterns viz: (i) soybean variety Samsoy-2 planted sole (ii) soybean variety TGX 1448-2E planted sole (iii) maize variety DMR-ESR-Y planted sole (iv) Samsoy -2 intercrop with maize and (v) TGX1448-2E intercrop with maize. The experiment was a split plot laid on complete randomized block design replicated three times. Results obtained revealed that there was no significant effect of time of introduction of maize on any soybean parameter observed. Yield and yield components of soybean indicated significant effect of cropping pattern (P < 0.01) with number of pods per plant and grain yield. Grain yield and number of pods per plant decreased in intercrop with soybean variety Samsoy-2 having the highest number of pods per plant and grain yield. The result on maize indicated that maize planted sole was significantly (P < 0.01) taller than intercropped maize, there was significant (P < 0.01) effect of time of introduction of maize and cropping pattern on maize plant height, ear length, ear diameter, survival and barrenness percentage and grain yield. The Land Equivalent ratio (LER) values indicated that higher yield advantages were obtained from maize introduced two weeks after planting soybean and maize intercropped with soybean variety Samsoy-2 (1.35) than with soybean variety TGX1448-2E (1.12).

Pioneers of the digital era have invented a different business model and expanded the existence of the digital economy, and the digital entrepreneurship is the beginning of this digital revolution. To explore the key characteristics of digital entrepreneurs, this study is divided into two stages. The first stage conducted a literature review and case study to construct the characteristic elements of the entrepreneurship into a model of digital entrepreneurs. In the second stage, the relative weights of the key characteristics of digital entrepreneurs are understood through an analysis of the AHP questionnaire results. The results show that autonomy and selfdiscipline are keys among the main dimensions of the key characteristics of digital entrepreneurs' entrepreneurship; the secondary dimension of "action power" is key in the main dimension of "autonomy and self-discipline"; the secondary dimension of "business networks" is key in the main dimension of "social capital"; the secondary dimension of "insight" is key in the main dimension of "innovation and breakthrough"; the secondary dimension of "communication ability" is key in the main dimension of "leadership communication".

The surface roughness and residual stress behavior in two types of SiNx/SiO2 dielectric quarter-wave stacks was investigated experimentally. A reactive pulsed magnetron sputtering system was used to prepare the SiNx/SiO2 multilayer thin films. The results show that SiNx/SiO2 quarter-wave stack with a buffer layer of MgF2 thin film can reduce the residual stress. The effect of aging on the residual stress in two quarter-wave stacks was also studied. We found that the residual stresses in both SiNx/SiO2 multilayer coatings are changed from a compressive state to a tensile stress state with increasing the aging time. The root mean square (RMS) surface roughness of MgF2/(SiNx/SiO2)22 and (SiNx/SiO2)22 quarter-wave stacks are 2.23 ± 0.22 nm and 2.08 ± 0.20 nm, respectively.

Dental and postcranial material of the bovid−like ruminant Palaeohypsodontus zinensis sp. nov. is reported from the Oligocene of the Bugti Hills (Balochistan, Pakistan). This finding extends the geographic distribution of this dentally highly derived ruminant, which was previously restricted to the early Oligocene of Mongolia and China. The inclusion of Palaeohypsodontus within the Bovidae is disputed on the basis of astragalus characters, and the taxonomic status of the Oligo−Miocene Eurasian bovid−like ruminants is briefly discussed. It is concluded that the assignment of Palaeohypsodontus to the Bovidae would be premature. More dental and postcranial material of this genus as well as additional fossils of early bovids are necessary to shed new light on the phylogenetic relationships within the first representatives of that family in Eurasia.

The electrical neutralization ability of polyaluminum chlorides (PACls) with respect to humic acid was investigated by the fluorescence quenching method. The Stern–Volmer constant (Kq) at various pH and coagulation doses was determined for polyaluminum chlorides (PACl-B) of various basicities (B, B = [OH]/[Al]). The experimental results show that under acidic conditions, the order of Kqvalues of PACl-B is PACl-2.5 > PACl-2.3 > PACl-1.5 > AlCl3. In solutions of pH = 7, the order of Kqvalues is PACl-1.5 > PACl-2.3 > PACl-2.5 > AlCl3. When pH > 7, aluminum ions are rapidly hydrolyzed, thus PACls of various basicities generally do not show capacity for electrical neutralization with humic acid. At pH = 6, all PACls-B obtain the maximum Kq values, indicating that humic acid and PACl-Bcoagulation process is less affected by H+ or OH ions, and produces the best electrical neutralization ability. Compared to the past method of using surface potential as a means of determining the ability of neutralization of coagulation, the results of this study show that the Kq value of the quenching effect can reduce the experiment complexity.

Cacao swollen shoot virus (CSSV) is an endemic pathogen causing significant economic losses to cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) production in West Africa. There is limited updated report on the occurrence, spread, genetic diversity and species of CSSV and its mealybug vectors, especially in Nigeria. Nigeria is presently lagging behind in the search for resistance to CSSV and its vectors in T. cacao L. The present study aimed to map and screen for the presence of CSSV and its natural vectors – female mealybugs (Pseudococcidae: Hemiptera) in cacao plantations in Nigeria. Symptomatic and asymptomatic cacao leaves and whole female mealybug samples were collected from major cacao-growing areas in Nigeria – Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, Ondo and Oyo States. A total of 2568 cacao leaves from 1052 cacao trees were screened with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using an open reading frame 1 (ORF 1) CSSV-specific primer pair. PCR screening of the mealybug species was performed using the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. A combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and histology for morphological identification and DNA barcoding enabled to characterise the female mealybug species. The results revealed that CSSV and its mealybug vectors are present in the major cacao-growing areas in Nigeria. Although CSSV and its vectors have been previously reported in Cross River, Ondo and Oyo States, our results present the first documented evidence of CSSV emergence and its mealybug vectors in Abia, Akwa Ibom and Edo States. We also present the first report of Pseudococcus jackbeardsleyi (Gimpel and Miller) mealybug species on cacao in Nigeria. In conclusion, it is pertinent to re-establish coordinated routine survey and monitoring of CSSV and its mealybug vector presence in T. cacao L. in Nigeria.
