Opis:
Introduction: Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP) and the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are involved in the spread of cancer. Methods: We have evaluated the matrix metalloproteinases' (MMP-10, MMP-7) and their inhibitors' (tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases - TIMP-1, TIMP-2) mRNA expression in 61 esophageal cancer samples from patients who had undergone surgery, by using real-time quantitative RT-PCR, and correlated the results with the patient clinicopathologic features. Results: MMP-10, MMP-7, TIMP-1, TIMP-2 were overexpressed in 73%, 85%, 55% and 42% of esophageal cancer samples, respectively. The expression of MMP-10, TIMP-1, and TIMP-2 correlated with the tumor size. The MMP-7 overexpression was associated with the tumour stage (I, II vs III, p=0.05) and lymph node metastasis (N0 vs N1, p=0.037). Conclusions: We conclude that in the resected esophageal cancer an increased mRNA expression of MMP-7, MMP-10 and TIMP-1 correlated with clinicopathologic features. We suggest that these genes may play a role during progression of the disease.

Opis:
Balance disorders and dizziness, which are the results of the impairment function of the sensorimotor control system, are often symptoms mentioned by patients in GP’s surgery. In regard to the fact that there are no effective pharmacological or surgical treatments for cervical dizziness, the purpose of this article is to verify if pharmacological and surgical treatment complemented with physiotherapy has a stimulating effect on the circuits responsible for posture control. Ambulatory patients – 47 patients with cervicogenic dizziness attended in the physiotherapeutic program, which lasted 10 days in a system of 5 days of therapy intertwined with 2 days off. In order to objectify the therapy results the efficiency of the balance system was evaluated, using the examination which registered forces and foot pressure moments on the ground during unperturbed stance. A statistical analysis of the stabilogram length in planta sagitalia (forward – backward) F-B and planta frontalia (right – left) R-L proved: with open eyes – statistically significant reduction of stabilogram length in planta frontalia (R-L) p<0.043; biofeedback – on the border of statistic significance p<0.068, a reduction of stabilogram length in planta frontalia (R-L). A statistical analysis of the speed of body stability stabilogram proved: with open eyes – statistically significant reduction of stabilogram speed in planta frontalia (R-L), p<0.018. A statistical analysis of the path length of the center of foot pressure proved: with open eyes – a statistically significant reduction (p<0.017) of the path length of the center of foot pressure. An analysis concerning the moment of foot pressure and forces pressured on the ground during unperturbed stance confirms that the application of physiotherapy had a stimulating influence on the systems responsible for postural control.

Opis:
This article proposes the construction of autonomous mobile robots and designing of obstacle avoidance algorithms for them. Nowadays, mobile robots are gaining more and more popularity on the customer as well as industrial market, for example as automatic vacuum cleaners or lawnmowers. Obstacle avoidance algorithms play an important role in performance of this types of robots. The proposed algorithms were designed for builds with rather not expensive electronic components, especially sensors with limited precision and dynamics. The project began with the selection of needed parts and building materials as well as designing of the PCB and assembling the whole construction. The project included also designing and developing the software responsible for, among others, implementation of obstacle avoidance algorithms. After the project’s completion, a series of tests in a closed environment was conducted to verify the quality of vehicles’ performance. Results of tests were positive.
