Opis:
This paper aims to outline the consequences of unintended mixing of polyolefin and biodegradable materials during recycling. The research was done on blends of high density polyethylene (PE-HD) and two commercial biopolymers intended for packaging applications. The mechanical properties, microstructures, water absorptions and DSC results were analyzed. A significant decrease in the blend properties compared to neat polyethylene and biopolymers is a warning against the poor waste management of biodegradable products.
Celem przeprowadzonych badań było wskazanie konsekwencji niezamierzonego zmieszania podczas recyklingu poliolefin i polimerowych materiałów biodegradowalnych. Ocenie poddano mieszaniny polietylenu dużej gęstości (PE-HD) i dwóch dostępnych na rynku biopolimerów przeznaczonych do wyrobu opakowań. Określano ich właściwości mechaniczne i termiczne, absorpcję wody i mikrostrukturę. Właściwości mieszanin wyraźnie gorsze w porównaniu z nienapełnionym polietylenem i biopolimerami stanowią czynnik ostrzegający przed nierozważną gospodarką odpadami biodegradowalnymi.

In this paper was characterized the fragment of the east-west waterway from Płock to Terespol, composed of the section of the Vistula measured from 633rd kilometer (the backwater end of Włocławek Reservoir) to 520th km (Warsaw), Żerań Canal including a fragment of Zegrze Reservoir and the lower part of the Bug up to 282nd km (Terespol). Hydrological and geomorphologic conditions of both sections of the river-beds and the state of their regulation infrastructure were presented in the aspect of existing navigation conditions and causes of their limitations. It was stated that both the river-beds, i.e of the Vistula and the Bug over their analyzed sections, have not fulfilled the requirements determined by the waterway classification standards.

Opis:
Owing to the presence of B vitamins, proteins and lactose, milk and dairy products fortified with magnesium could function as transporters of magnesium to the human body. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the type of an applied magnesium compound on the dynamics of fermentation, syneresis, texturometric profile and colour of yoghurts. The yoghurts produced were thickened with 3% addition of skimmed milk powder and fortified with various magnesium compounds in the amount of 30 mg Mg 100 g-1 of milk. The fermentation of milk was carried out with starter yoghurt cultures at the temperature of 45°C for 4.5 hours. During the milk fermentation, changes in acidity were examined immediately after the addition of the starter, after 2 h of incubation and after 4 h of incubation. After 24 h of cold storage, texture, syneresis, pH, titratable acidity and colour of yoghurts were determined. The magnesium compounds used for the fortification of milk in the dose of 30 mg Mg 100 g-1 of milk did not inhibit fermentation. After 24 h of storage, all yoghurts fortified with magnesium had a pH typical of fermented milk. Among the magnesium compounds used, magnesium bisglycinate had the strongest alkalizing impact on acidity of milk prior to fermentation. Fortification of yoghurts with magnesium compounds reduced syneresis of the whey in yoghurts. The texturometric profile of yoghurts changed depending on the type of an applied magnesium compound. Comparable components of texture were determined in control yoghurts and in yoghurts enriched with magnesium D-glukonate hydrate. Magnesium L-pidolate and magnesium chloride hexahydrate significantly reduced hardness and adhesiveness of yoghurt curd. Enriching yoghurts with magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium L-lactate, magnesium chloride hexahydrate, magnesium L-pidolate and magnesium acetate caused a darker colour compared to the colour of yoghurts which were not enriched.

Opis:
The study presents an assessment of selected mechanical properties of peel and flesh in raw field-grown cucumbers (Cucumis sativus L.), as well as changes occurring in the fruit during the process of pickling, with the use of two types of brine with different composition and with addition of a probiotic. Contents of water in two size fractions of fresh cucumbers were determined using oven-drying method. A puncture test performed with a 5 mm punch probe measured peel and flesh puncture strength and energy as well as apparent modulus of elasticity in raw cucumbers, and following 10, 30, 60 and 90 days of the pickling process. The specified mechanical parameters of cucumber peel and flesh were found to decrease during the pickling process. The reduction in peel and flesh puncture strength is described by a logarithmic function, in energy by linear function and in modulus of elasticity by a power function. The decrease in the puncture strength was slower in the cucumbers subjected to pickling in the brine containing probiotic (B), the decrease in energy was slightly faster in smaller cucumbers (fraction I) subjected to pickling, and during the pickling process in the probiotic containing brine.

Opis:
Minerals are among the most important substances promoting the beneficial effect of tree sap on a human body. However, the composition of tree saps is characterised by high intra- and interspecies variability and it is also known to vary in time even when collected from trees of the same species. The aim of this work was to evaluate the time-related variability of the mineral content in birch tree sap, to prove dependencies between the mineral composition and basic physical parameters of tree saps, and to refer the results obtained in our study to the Polish nutritional standards. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there is no point in time when birch sap invariably achieves superior nutritive values. This is proven by the fact that two of the three tested birch trees had a higher content of minerals at the beginning of sap collection, while the remaining one produced better sap at the end of the experiment. The differences in the mineral composition of tree saps observed during the two-week study raise doubt about the nutritional benefits of their content. For example, one liter of sap collected during two weeks from the three tested birches supplied from 8.49 to 26.34%, 0.9 to 2.80% and 9.17 to 20.23% of the adequate intake of potassium defined in the Nutritional standards for the Polish population (2013). For zinc, the recommended dietary allowance value based on the Nutritional standards for the Polish population (2013) was covered by one liter of sap in the following ranges: from 0 to 2.11%, from 0.85 to 21.50% and from 7.34 to 15.63%. Moreover, it is impossible to estimate the nutritional value of tree saps, understood as the mineral content, from the physical parameters of birch saps. The values of the examined parameters did not correspond reliably to the mineral content. Nonetheless, electrolytic conductivity may reflect more faithfully the nutritional benefits. The higher the EC in the saps from two out of the three birch trees tested, the higher the expected concentration of minerals important for humans, i.e. calcium, zinc and potassium.
