Opis:
In the years 2005– 2006, in the Karkonoski National Park there were conducted observations on infestation of spruce trees by bark beetles (Col., Curculionidae, Scolytinae). Data on bark beetle species composition and frequency of occurrence of individual species were collected. The data on development phenology of the small spruce bark beetle Ips amitinus in the upper subalpine spruce forest sites (1000– 1250 m a.s.l.) indicated higher frequency of occurrence of this species (26.3%) when compared to the European spruce bark beetle Ips typographus. The study included analyses of population size, density, fecundity and mortality of I. amitinus. The rate of development in I. amitinus in the Karkonosze Mts. is similar to that observed in the Alps. The number of laid eggs observed was low and the reproduction success was very high at minimal mortality. Establishment of feeding galleries and egg laying lasted several weeks and 1/3 of feeding galleries were found in the second series of trap trees.

Surface photovoltage spectroscopy (SPS) measurements for Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Se single crystals between 80 and 300 K at the pressure of 10$\text{}^{-4}$ Pa were performed. The Fermi level energy was calculated. From the SPS curves the energy values connected with the electron transitions have been determined. Four types of effects have been stated: energy gap, shallow states close to the conduction band and two energy states connected with the structural defects, the native ones and those related to introduction of manganese into the CdSe matrix.

Opis:
The surface electronic structure of the Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$Se and Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Fe$\text{}_{x}$Τe crystals with x = 0 and x = 0.03 has been studied by Surface Photovoltage Spectroscopy (SPS). The change of surface photovoltage was observed due to photo-excitation of the electrons from the deep donor state Fe 3d to conduction band edge. This gave possibility to determine energy position of the Fe 3d state at 0.64 and 0.15 eV over the top of the valence band for CdSe and CdTe, respectively.

Opis:
Surface photovoltage measurements performed for the Cd$\text{}_{0.85}$Mn$\text{}_{0.15}$Te single crystal samples intrinsic and gallium doped have shown influence of gallium doping on height and sign of the surface voltage barrier. From results of the surface photovoltage spectroscopy (SPS) measurements thevalues of acceptor, donor and manganese states energies have been determined. The photoconductivity (PC) measurements confirmed the effects found on the SPS curves.

Opis:
Three elm species are native to Poland: wych elm (Scots elm) (Ulmus glabra Huds.), field elm (U. minor Mill.), and European white elm (fluttering elm) (U. laevis Pall.). The epidemic of Dutch elm disease (DED) has led to a decrease in the popularity of elm cultivation. An analysis of forestry data was the first step in the assessment of elm resources. The area of forest stands where elms are dominant has more than doubled since 1978. Lowland alluvial forests rank first in regards to the number of elm localities per unit area of a given forest site type. While this site type is clearly preferred by elms, the majority of elm trees are actually scattered among sites of oak-hornbeam or closely related forests (of the alliance Carpinion betuli). Field research revealed a clear dominance of U. laevis, a species which in the past was predominantly located out of woodland and rarely cultivated. Data analysis indicated that all trees greater than 70 cm in diameter belonged to this species. Data from plots surveyed directly also suggest that the three elm species have slightly different habitat preferences. U. laevis prefers riparian habitats, although the major part of its resources is now on potential sites of oak-hornbeam or closely related forests. U. minor even more often than U. laevis occurs at less humid sites (mostly potential sites of oak-hornbeam or closely related forests), while U. glabra prefers moist slopes. In general, it appears that the impact of DED in the last 20–30 years has been smaller than in the preceding period, however, the disappearance of the disease has not been established. Undoubtedly, U. laevis is the elm species that is least impacted by DED

Boron was partially substituted by phosphorus (3 at.%) in two Si-poor Fe-Nb-Cu-B-Si Finemets. Mostly non-significant changes were observed after vacuum annealing at 500°C, whereas equivalent Ar annealing resulted in significantly better soft-magnetic properties, which suffer from compressive surfaces stress. Possibly by hampering surface crystallization, the substitution eased the surfaces stress and reduced undesired off-axis anisotrophy at the cost of limiting the useful annealing temperature.

Opis:
Dutch elm disease (DED) still occurs in Poland. Previous studies confirmed occurring O. ulmi and two subspecies of O. novo-ulmi: subsp. novo-ulmi and subsp. amerciana. In this study the population of Ophiostoma occurred in Poland was investigated. The disease incidence was investigated on elms growing in 39 locations. The pathogen’s mycelium was isolated from elm branches and twigs collected from 22 plots. The disease symptoms were noted in 5% to 35% trees. Fungi were identified based on the PCR amplification of the ITS 1/2 rDNA together with phylogenetic analysis of this region. Ophiostoma novo-ulmi was the only agent caused DED on Ulmus glabra, U. minor and U. laevis. There were no genetic diversity of O. novo-ulmi Polish population in analyzed ITS region. All kind of specific symptoms and disease intensity occurred independently on elm species and host age. Ulmus minor was infested most sever among the three elms species.

Opis:
Co-Fe-Mo-Mn-Si-B metallic glass ribbon (Vitrovac 6030) was subjected to the isothermal annealing at temperatures in the range 523-873 K so as to produce a series of samples with gradually coarser microstructure. For this series of samples a giant increase in the coercivity, exceeding three orders of magnitude, is observed. This increase is interpreted in terms of the strengthening of the pinning effect of the nanocrystalline structure on the moving domain walls. It is shown that the anisotropy of the created crystallites is mainly responsible for the increase in the pinning force since the effective anisotropy seen by the wall becomes larger and larger with the gradual increase in the density and size of the grown particles.
