Opis:
Patients with malignant tumours of the oral cavity require its surgical removal and reconstruction of the bone and soft tissues. The grafts are obtained either from leg (fibula) or pelvis (iliac crest). The removal of grafts from the locomotor apparatus can impair the gait. The aim of this study was to find out how the localization of donor site influences the gait pattern. Methods: Results obtained for 30 patients were analyzed (16 fibula graft, 14 iliac crest graft). Patients underwent instrumented gait analyses three times (VICON system): before surgery, 2–4 month after the surgery, and 4–8 months after the surgery. Results: In both groups several gait parameters were changed. Two parameters changed in both groups: gait speed and cadence. In patients receiving iliac crest graft the changed gait variables were: pelvic rotation, hip range in sagittal plane (operated side), knee range in sagittal plane (operated side), foot dorsiflexion in swing on both sides. In patients receiving fibula flap the changed gait variables were: tilt, range motion of the tilt, minimum hip flexion (operated side), time to maximum knee flexion (non-operated side), GGI (non-operated side) and step length (nonoperated side). Conclusions: The primary gait deviations occurring after surgery, and the compensatory mechanisms which subsequently arise depend on the localization of graft donor site. The results indicate that the patients in whom fibula flap was used have less problems with gait pattern after the surgery than the patients receiving iliac crest graft.

Opis:
Species of the genus Orobanche (Orobanchaceae), parasitic on Centaurea in Central Europe, were previously considered to belong to the O. elatior group. At present, the taxon is differentiated into two species, O. elatior Sutton and O. kochii F.W. Schultz. The paper presents for the first time the distribution of O. elatior and O. kochii in Poland based on a critical revision of herbarium and the literature data, as well as the results of field studies conducted between 1999 and 2014. The majority of the species’ localities are in south Poland: Silesia-Cracow, Małopolska and the Lublin Uplands. The distribution of both species in Poland is mapped and chronologically organized, and is thus the most recent in Europe. The taxonomy, host preferences, and ecology are also discussed. Seeds of both species were also investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy, which resulted in the designation of diagnostic features. The new color form of O. kochii f. citrina is described and illustrated. An account of all revised herbarium specimens collected from Poland, deposited in Poland and neighboring countries, is presented.

Opis:
La Meseta Formation is made up of estuarine and shallow marine, fossiliferous clastic deposits 720 m thick that provides a unique record of marine and terrestrial biota of Antarctic ecosystems preceding continental glaciation in the Oligocene. The lower limit of this formation has been poorly known, and therefore it has been carefully investigated. The lowest part of the La Meseta Formation, at the southern bank of a palaeodelta, is represented by relics of a prograding sequence of sediments deposited in the wave-dominated part of a deltaic system in the offshore and lower and upper shoreface environments. The sequence is completed landwards by younger tidal plain sediments deposited at 40 m lower altitude in a relatively protected, central estuarine basin, which was dominated by tidal activity and influenced by periodic fluvial inflow. These strata were deposited during a late Paleocene or Ypresian/Lutetian lowstand of sea level, which might reflect a glaciation event or glacioisostatic rebound of land following deglaciation of hypothetic Antarctic inland glaciers. Forced regression of sea level and seaward expansion of a deltaic freshwater environment, led to local extinction of a unique assemblage of marine echinoderms, bryozoans, corals and brachiopods. These marine fossils, representing a thanatocoenosis, are perfectly preserved due to syngenetic goethite permineralisation. This process owed its origin to excess reactive iron coming from sulphide-rich bedrock through weathering processes and acid sulphate drainage of the neighbouring land area.

Opis:
The paper focuses on the attempt to improve the process of modeling the electrical grid infrastructure, designed within project SAVE (State of the Art and Visionary Energetics). The system, which is a response to a still increasing demand for electricity, will enable optimizing and planning the development of the existing energy transmission grid on the basis of the Smart Grid concept. Such an approach may support the process of setting up new companies interested in building renewable power plants and will encourage potential ”prosumers” to share their surplus of energy. SAVE may also show how to wisely use the energy and how expensive energy wasting can be.
Takie podejście pozwoli wesprzeć proces tworzenia nowych przedsiębiorstw, zainteresowanych budową elektrowni odnawialnych, i będzie zachęcać potencjalnych „prosumentów”, by przekazywali swoje nadwyżki energii. System SAVE może pokazać również, jak odpowiedzialnie korzystać z energii i jak kosztowne mogą być jej straty.

Opis:
Fabrication of low resistivity ohmic contacts to N polarity gallium nitride crystal is an important issue for the construction of the vertical current flow devices like laser diodes and high brightness light emitting diodes. Gallium nitride is a challenging material because of the high metal work function required to form a barrier-free metal-semiconductor interface. In practice, all useful ohmic contacts to GaN are based on the tunneling effect. Efficient tunneling requires high doping of the material. The most challenging task is to fabricate high quality metal ohmic contacts on the substrate because the doping control is here much more difficult that in the case of epitaxial layers. In the present work we propose a method for fabricating low resistivity ohmic contacts on N-side of GaN wafers grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy. These crystals were characterized by a n-type conductivity and the electron concentration of the order of 10$\text{}^{17}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$. The standard Ti/Au contact turned out to be unsatisfactory with respect to its linearity and resistance. Instead we decided to deposit high-n type ZnO layers (thickness 50 nm and 100 nm) prepared by atomic layer deposition at temperature of 200°C. The layers were highly n-type conductive with the electron concentration in the order of 10$\text{}^{20}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$. Afterwards, the metal contact to ZnO was formed by depositing Ti and Au. The electrical characterization of such a contact showed very good linearity and as low resistance as 1.6 × 10$\text{}^{-3}$ Ω cm$\text{}^{2}$. The results indicate advantageous properties of contacts formed by the combination of the atomic layer deposition and hydride vapor phase epitaxy technology.

Opis:
The results of the Rutherford backscattering/channeling study of ZnO layers are presented. ZnO layers were deposited on the silicon single crystals and GaN epitaxial layers at low temperature by atomic layer deposition. Deposition temperature varied between 100 and 300°C. A random spectra analysis was performed to determine layer thickness and composition. In turn, analysis of the aligned spectra allows us to study evolution of ingrown defects. The Rutherford backscattering study supports the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements, performed separately, that the ZnO-ALD layers deposited at low temperature contain a higher oxygen content. Composition measurements, performed as a function of growth temperature, show that oxygen content decreases with the increasing temperature of the atomic layer deposition growth process.

The ZnO-based Schottky diodes revealing a high rectification ratio may be used in many electronic devices. This paper demonstrates several approaches to obtain a ZnO-based Schottky junction with a high rectification ratio. The authors tested several methods such as: post-growth annealing of the ZnO layer, acceptor (nitrogen) doping, as well as the ZnO surface coating with a properly chosen dielectric material. The influence of these approaches on the diode's rectification ratio together with modeling based on the differential approach and thermionic emission theory are presented.

We report on the structural, electrical and magnetic properties of ZnCoO thin films grown by atomic layer deposition method using reactive organic precursors of zinc and cobalt. As a zinc precursor we applied either dimethylzinc or diethylzinc and cobalt(II) acetyloacetonate as a cobalt precursor. The use of these precursors allowed us the significant reduction of a growth temperature to 300°C and below, which proved to be very important for the growth of uniform films of ZnCoO. Structural, electrical and magnetic properties of the obtained ZnCoO layers will be discussed based on the results of secondary ion mass spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, Hall effect and SQUID investigations.
