Opis:
The paper discusses progress that has been made over the past sixty years in increasing the service life of centrifugally cast, creepresistant tubes operating in reformer furnaces. Attention was mainly focused on the principles of selection of the chemical composition of castings to improve their creep behaviour. The reasons accounting for withdrawal of tubes from service were indicated. Examples of chemical composition and mechanical properties obtained in creep-resistant Ni-Cr cast steel used by the leading European tube manufacturers were stated. Trends in current research aiming at further improvement of the tube performance characteristics were mentioned.

Opis:
In this paper, results of spectroscopic study of microwave (2.45 GHz) plasma at atmospheric pressure and high $CO_2$ flow rate are presented. The plasma was generated by waveguide-supplied nozzleless cylindrical type microwave plasma source. Working gas flow rate and microwave absorbed power varied from 50 up to 150 l/min and from 1 up to 5.5 kW, respectively. The emission spectra in the range of 300-600 nm were recorded. The rotational and vibrational temperatures of $C_2$ molecules, as well as the rotational temperature of OH radicals were determined by comparing the measured and simulated spectra. The plasma gas temperature inferred from rotational temperature of heavy species ranged from 4000 to 6000 K. It depended on location in plasma, microwave absorbed power and working gas flow rate. The presented microwave plasma source can be used in various gas processing applications.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present a novel microwave microplasma source generated in different gases at atmospheric pressure. The design, rule of operation and experimental investigations of the new microwave microplasma source are described. The main advantage of the presented microwave microplasma source is its small size, simplicity, and low cost of construction and operation. The microplasma has a form of a small plasma jet of dimensions of a few mm, depending on the kind of gas, gas flow rate, and absorbed microwave power. Presented in this paper results of experimental investigations were obtained with an atmospheric pressure argon, krypton, nitrogen, and air microplasma, sustained by microwaves of standard frequency of 2.45 GHz. The absorbed microwave power was up to 70 W. The gas flow rate was from 2 to 25 l/min. The miniature size, simplicity of the source and stability of the microplasma allow to conclude that the presented new microwave microplasma source can find practical applications in various fields.

Opis:
Perovskites are materials of very versatile properties. They may be used in various ways and structures. In this work the results of investigation of the $Zr_{0.84}Y_{0.16}O_x$ electrolyte on $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}FeO_3$ perovskite support are presented. The perovskite support was fabricated by iso-axially die-pressing of $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}FeO_3$ powders and sintering at 1150°C. The $Zr_{0.84}Y_{0.16}O_x$ layer was deposited on $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}FeO_3$ by a combination of colloidal suspension and polymer precursor methods. In this way the dense electrolyte layer was prepared at as low temperature as 400°C. This method may be also useful for high-$T_c$ superconductor layers deposition. The chemical interaction between the electrolyte layer and perovskite support was investigated by X-ray diffraction. It was shown that no reaction occurs between cathode and electrolyte until 900°C. Above 1200°C, parameters of the $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}FeO_3$ unit cell increase. It suggests that the reaction between $Zr_{0.84}Y_{0.16}O_x$ and $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}FeO_3$ is accompanied by substitutional changes in the $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}FeO_3$.

Opis:
Hybrid nanostructures are often composed of inorganic parts and "biological" ones. Optimized through million years of evolution light harvesting proteins are hard to mimic synthetically. Promising strategy in search for efficient solar cells is an attachment of selected natural protein systems to inorganic quantum dots. Such experimental hybrid structures should have improved charge separation properties. Among the most promising proteins is peridinin-chlorophyll-protein from Amphidinium carterae (PCP). It has a wide absorption spectrum (420-550 nm), optimized for sunlight. The dynamics of this protein, used in modern nanotechnology has been not addressed yet. In this work we present results of PCP computer modeling using a well established molecular dynamics methodology. The CHARMM27 force field parameters were prepared for this protein and all chromophore components. The system was embedded in a box of water, with proper counter ions, and a number of 10 ns molecular dynamics simulations were run using the NAMD code. It has been found that peridinine chromophores exhibit substantial orientational flexibility but a pair Per612 and Per613 is more rigid than the remaining two carotenoids. Orientation and dynamics of absorption and emission electric dipole moments have been also analyzed. Apparently, the architecture of PCP is not optimized for efficient Per-Chl a energy transfer by the Förster mechanism. Several practical issues related to molecular dynamics simulation of similar hybrid nanostructures are discussed.

Opis:
One of the basic elements of the technological chain of manufacturing products in the European Union is the metal processing sector, which is one of the dynamically developing industries. An important department in the aforementioned sector is the production of unconventional, large-size injection molds and tools weighing more than 10 tons. Very often large-size components in the production process must be precisely checked and subjected to appropriate corrective actions at the quality control stage, in order to avoid non-compliance with customer requirements, and thus increased costs related to reducing production efficiency, logistics of large-size elements from the customer back to the manufacturer of the mold in order to correct it, and also complaints of the final product connected with dimensional changes and surface defects in the casting process. This paper presents a case study of the implementation of the innovative quality control process to verify the production of large-size molds for aluminum high pressure casting with the spotting press machine, allowing for product quality improvement. The introduction of the innovative press for spotting molds to the quality control stage also leads to the improvement of production efficiency, which was confirmed by the results of an increase of the OEE coefficient in the entire production process. In addition, a significant reduction in the production time of products was achieved, and the cost of the mold production process was lowered.

Opis:
The hydrogen production by conversion of liquid compounds containing hydrogen was investigated experimentally. The waveguide-supplied metal cylinder-based microwave plasma source (MPS) operated at frequency of 915 MHz at atmospheric pressure was used. The decomposition of ethanol, isopropanol and kerosene was performed employing plasma dry reforming process. The liquid was introduced into the plasma in the form of vapour. The amount of vapour ranged from 0.4 to 2.4 kg/h. Carbon dioxide with the fl ow rate ranged from 1200 to 2700 NL/h was used as a working gas. The absorbed microwave power was up to 6 kW. The effect of absorbed microwave power, liquid composition, liquid fl ow rate and working gas fl ow rate was analysed. All these parameters have a clear infl uence on the hydrogen production effi ciency, which was described with such parameters as the hydrogen production rate [NL(H2)/h] and the energy yield of hydrogen production [NL(H2)/kWh]. The best achieved experimental results showed that the hydrogen production rate was up to 1116 NL(H2)/h and the energy yield was 223 NL(H2) per kWh of absorbed microwave energy. The results were obtained in the case of isopropanol dry reforming. The presented catalyst-free microwave plasma method can be adapted for hydrogen production not only from ethanol, isopropanol and kerosene, but also from different other liquid compounds containing hydrogen, like gasoline, heavy oils and biofuels.

Opis:
Introduction: People who are homeless are most often unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure, and adequate housing, or they lack a “fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence”. Purpose: To assess the attitude of secondaryschool students, high-school students, university students, and working adults towards homeless people. Materials and methods: A survey of 420 randomly selected middle school students (n=120), high school students (n=100), university students (n=100), and working adults (n=100) was conducted. Nearly half of the participants reported a fear of homeless people. Results: According to the majority of respondents, a homeless person collects scrap metal and waste paper, and also begs. The first words that come to mind when a majority of people think of the homeless were: poor, unhappy, dirty, lonely, and smelly. The participants reported the main reasons for homelessness to be: joblessness, family problems, alcohol, helplessness, and avoiding work. The majority of respondents argued that social and legal problems are the main reasons that it is difficult for homeless people to extricate themselves from their situation. The groups surveyed had a variety of opinions about homelessness. According to most respondents, a homeless person is a poor, miserable, lonely, childless man with a vocational education who begs, collects scrap metal and waste paper, and is also usually dirty and smelly. Conclusions: In the survey groups, respondents’ opinions about homelessness varied.

Introduction: Little is known about associations of attitudes of medical students towards people with disabilities and their life satisfaction and empathy. Purpose: To assess the social perception of people with disabilities by medical students. Materials and methods: The present study interviewed 451 medical students of the Medical University of Białystok regarding their perceptions of people with disabilities, especially in light of their own satisfaction with life and empathy. We used the following questionnaires: the original questionnaire about attitudes towards people with disabilities, The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and Empathy Understanding Questionnaire (KRE). Results: Attitudes towards people with disabilities people were generally positive. Almost 40% of respondents expressed a willingness to help for people with disabilities. In general, disabled people do not have full access to all fields of social (63.4%) and professional (63.2%) life. At the same time, disabled people tend to marry (84.9%), have children (82.1%), work (88.2%), and drive cars (76.1%). Respondents were convinced that contact with a disabled person teaches ways to help others (42.1%), and in fact 58.6% of respondents reported having decided to participate with helping the disabled. The average life satisfaction of the students was 22.7 ± 5.3 which indicates that the respondents are satisfied with their lives. The empathy level of respondents was 66.97 points ± 2.98, which indicates average level of empathy. Conclusions: This study shows that students’ perception of people with disabilities depends upon how the students viewed disabled people’s, life satisfaction and empathy.
