HY2SEPS was an EU-funded project directed at the reduction of C02 emissions. The principal objective of the project was to develop a hybrid membrane-adsorptive H2/C02 separation technique that would form an integral element of the pre-combustion process. Specific tasks included the derivation of simplified mathematical models for the membrane separation of H2/C02 mixtures. In the present study one of the developed models is discussed in detail, namely that with the countercurrent plug flow of the feed and the permeate. A number of simulations were carried out concerning the separation of binary mixtures that may appear following steam conversion of methane. The numerical results were then compared with the experimental data obtained by FORTH/ICEHT. The estimated fluxes of pure C02, H2, CH4 and N2 are shown alongside those measured experimentally as a function of temperature and C02 partial pressure in Figs 2 - 7. It is concluded that, in general, C02 flux increases monotonically with both temperature and C02 partial pressure. It is also found that the fluxes of hydrogen, methane and nitrogen reach a minimum at a temperature slightly above 323 K. Overall, a good agreement was obtained between the simulations and experiments.

Results are presented concerning the separation of the mixtures of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and oxygen in membrane modules with modified polysulphone or polyimide as active layers. The feed gas was a mixture with composition corresponding to that of a stream leaving stage 1 of a hybrid adsorptivemembrane process for the removal of CO2 from dry flue gas. In gas streams containing 70 vol.% of CO2, O2 content was varied between 0 and 5 vol.%. It is found that the presence of oxygen in the feed gas lowers the purity of the product CO2 in all the modules studied, while the recovery depends on the module. In the PRISM module (Air Products) an increase in O2 feed concentration, for the maximum permeate purity, led to a rise in CO2 recovery, whereas for the UBE modules the recovery did not change.

Background. Changes in the economic and political system that took place in Poland in recent decades had a significant impact on lifestyles of different social groups, especially in youngsters as vulnerable and open to all novelty and changes. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the healthy or non-healthy behaviours including physical activity, diet, time devoted for sleeping, leisure, stress and the use of drugs by students of four universities in Wroclaw. Material and Methods. The study involved 604 students (305 women and 299 men) from four universities in Wroclaw: University of Wroclaw - 25.0%, Wroclaw University of Technology - 24.5%, University School of Physical Education (AWF) - 25.2% and Wroclaw Medical University - 25.3%. A questionnaire developed for this study was used. The questions were both open and closed, one or multiple answers could be matched. The questions related to: physical activity, nutrition, time devoted for sleeping, leisure, stress and stimulants. Results. On the basis of the results it was found that students mostly reported an average level of physical activity. The highest level of physical activity was presented by students of the University School of Physical Education and the lowest by students of the University of Wroclaw. Just one in ten students consumed meals on a regular basis, including one in five studying in the AWF. Almost half of the respondents (48.7%) spent 5-7 hours sleeping. Every tenth student slept less than five hours. Most respondents preferred passive forms of recreation, only one in three practiced sports in their spare time (usually students of the AWF). Every fourth student declared smoking, and more than 90% consumed alcohol. Conclusions. Lifestyle of majority of the students surveyed did not follow the recommendations of preventive care. The need for more efficient education of students is obvious, which will lead to the future positive changes in their lifestyle, reducing the risk of lifestyle diseases.
Wprowadzenie. Zmiany ekonomiczne i ustrojowe, jakie miały miejsce w Polsce w ostatnich dziesięcioleciach w sposób znaczący wpłynęły na styl życia różnych grup społecznych. Grupą niewątpliwie podatną i otwartą na wszelkie nowości i zmiany są młodzi ludzie Cel badań. Celem pracy była ocena zachowań pro- i antyzdrowotnych – w tym: aktywności fizycznej, sposobu odżywiania, długości snu, spędzania czasu wolnego, stresu i stosowania używek przez studentów czterech uczelni wrocławskich. Materiał i metody. W badaniach wzięło udział 604 studentów (305 kobiet i 299 mężczyzn) z czterech wrocławskich uczelni wyższych: Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego -25,0%, Politechniki Wrocławskiej - 24,5%, Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego (AWF) - 25,2% i Uniwersytetu Medycznego - 25,3%. W badaniu wykorzystano autorski kwestionariusz ankiety. Wyniki. Stwierdzono, że studenci w większości odznaczali się średnim poziomem aktywności fizycznej, najwyższy poziom cechował studentów Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego, najniższy - studentów Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego. Tylko, co dziewiąty student odżywiał się regularnie, w tym, co piąty z AWF. 48,7% badanych przeznaczała na sen 5 -7 godzin. Co dziesiąty student sypiał krócej niż 5 godzin. Większość badanych preferowała bierne formy odpoczynku, a co trzecia osoba uprawiała sport w czasie wolnym (najczęściej studenci AWF). Co czwarty student deklarował palenie papierosów, a ponad 90% spożywanie alkoholu. Wnioski. Styl życia większości badanych studentów odbiegał od zaleceń profilaktyki zdrowotnej. Widoczna jest potrzeba edukacji młodych ludzi, która doprowadzi w przyszłości do korzystnych zmian w ich stylu życia ograniczając ryzyko chorób cywilizacyjnych.

Opis:
We present ultra-narrow line width, tunable diode laser system which will be used as a local oscillator in an optical atomic clock and for precision spectroscopy of Sr near 689 nm. Design of the high finesse optical cavity used as short-term frequency reference is optimized with respect to insensitivity to vibrations. We achieved laser line width of about 8 Hz, measured by comparison of two identical systems. The relative phase lock of two lasers is better than 150 mHz. Laser tunability and usefulness for precison spectroscopy were demonstrated through line shape measurement of a 20 kHz wide resonance of the optical cavity.

This report concerns the experiment of precision spectroscopy of cold strontium atoms in the Polish National Laboratory of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics in Toruń. The system is composed of a Zeeman slower and magneto-optical traps (at 461 nm and 689 nm), a frequency comb, and a narrow-band laser locked to an ultra-stable optical cavity. All parts of the experiment are prepared and the first measurements of the absolute frequency of the 1S0-3P1, 689 nm optical transition in 88Sr atoms are performed.

The effect of cobalt aluminate inoculant addition and melt-pouring temperature on the structure and mechanical properties of Ni-based superalloy was studied. The first major move to control the quality of investment cast blades and vanes was the control of grain size. Cobalt aluminate (CoAl2 O4 ) is the most frequently utilized inoculant in the lost-wax casting process of Ni-based superalloys. The inoculant in the prime coat of moulds and pouring temperature play a significant role in grain size control. The finest surface grains were obtained when the internal surface of shell mould was coated with cobalt aluminate and subsequently pouring was at 1480°C. The influence of selected casting parameters and inoculant addition on mechanical properties was investigated on the basis of tensile, creep and hardness testing. The effect of grain refinement on mechanical properties were consistent with established theories. Tests conducted at ambient temperature indicated a beneficial effect of grain refinement both on tensile strength and hardness. In contrast at elevated temperature during creep, the reverse trend was observed.

The aim of the study was to determine the chemical composition of pig meat, liver and kidney in terms of mineral elements, and to establish the relationships between selected macro- and microelements. Twenty organically raised pigs [Złotnicka Spotted and F1 (Polish Large White × Polish Landrace)] were investigated. At the end of fattening (100-108 kg of body weight), the animals were slaughtered and the following tissues and organs were sampled from each pig: muscle longissimus lumborum, liver, and kidney. The samples were freeze-dried and digested in an Ethos Plus microwave system. Mineral content of the prepared samples was determined by means of a Unicam Solar 969 atomic absorption spectrometer. Longissimus lumborum muscle proved to be rich in macroelements as 1 kg of fresh tissue was found to contain as much as 282.34 mg magnesium, 3 668.41 mg potassium and 329.35 sodium. Among the analysed microelements (Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe), the presence of only zinc and iron (16.13 and 0.02 mg kg-1 of fresh tissue, respectively) was detected in the muscles. Liver samples were characterised by the highest levels of Zn (64.09 mg kg-1), Mn (3.37 mg kg-1) and Fe (0.48 mg kg-1). The mean content of Cu in 1 kg of fresh tissue did not exceed 7.42 mg. The macroelements determined were Mg (180.89 mg kg-1), K (3 082.04 mg kg-1) and Na (744.25 mg kg-1). Kidneys were most abundant in Cu (9.52 mg kg-1) and Na (1 404.08 mg kg-1). In addition, they also contained zinc (24.62 mg kg-1), manganese (2.25 mg kg-1), iron (0.11 mg kg-1), magnesium (202.14 mg kg-1) and potassium (2 541.63 mg kg-1).

Silicon nitride powder with a small addition of magnesium oxide and yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia fine particles was used as a starting material. Multilayer graphene nanoplatelets were used as filler for silicon nitride based composites. Graphene content in the mixtures was 0‒2 wt. %. The composites were obtained by the Spark Plasma Sintering method at 1650°C under 35 MPa of uniaxial pressure. Separation of the agglomerated graphene platelets in the matrix was observed for these materials. Insufficient dispersity of graphene slightly decreased the mechanical properties of Si3N4 ceramics. The SEM and TEM microstructural analysis of sintered materials show that the applied pressure during the sintering process leads to the orientation of the graphene phase and in consequence causes anisotropy of properties. The differences of friction coefficients were examined with the Ball-on-Disc method for the two directions (parallel and perpendicular to the pressing axis). Also the specific wear rate of the ball for the direction parallel to pressing axis differ significantly in comparison to the wear for the direction perpendicular to the pressing direction.

The male-specific DNA markers are very useful in molecular sexing of non-flowering plants and seeds of dioecious species. In this paper we identified ten Y chromosome-specific RAPD primers suitable for identification of male plants in three Cannabaceae species with sex chromosomes (Humulus lupulus, XX/XY; H. japonicus, XX/ XY1Y2; Cannabis sativa, XX/XY). Basing on the nucleotide sequence of the OPJ-09 RAPD product we developed the HJY09 SCAR marker, which is very efficient in sexing of Japanese hop.

The aim of this study was to determine concentrations of Na, K, Mg, Ca, P, Zn and Fe in the meat of ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernua L.) and to investigate the relationship between fish sex or age and the mineral content of fish meat. 90 individuals of ruffe were caught in autumn (from October 9 to November 6) from the Vistula River, near Toruń and he local wastewater treatment plant. The muscle tissues from the large side muscle in a fish body, above the lateral line, were taken for analyses. All frozen meat samples were freeze dried in a freeze dryer and then tissues were mineralized in a microwave mineralizer. Concentrations of minerals were determined by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. As the analyses indicated, the concentrations of macroelements were arranged in the order: K > Ca > P > Na > Mg and the content of microelements was noted in the following decreasing sequence: Zn > Fe. The ranges of the mean concentrations of Na, K, Mg, Ca and P (g kg-1) were as follows: from 2.38 to 2.68, from 14.74 to 16.16, from 1.47 to 1.60, from 5.63 to 8.06, from 2.18 to 3.59, respectively. The ranges of the mean concentration of microelements (mg kg-1) were from 49 to 74 for Zn and from 26 to 29 for Fe. Statistically significant relationships between the age and the macro- and microelement concentrations were verified, and this tendency was comparable to the data obtained by other authors. Results of these studies showed that the sex of ruffe was not an important factor for the levels of macro- and microelements in this species.

The aim of the study was to determine concentrations of some elements, incluing minerals and heavy metals (Na, K, Mg, Zn, Fe, Cu, Cd, Pb), in the meat (musculus longissimus dorsi) of the wild boar (Sus scrofa L.) depending on the sex of the animals. The wild boars were shot during the hunting 2011-2012 season, in the Province of Podkarpacie (województwo podkarpackie), Poland. Podkarpacie, situated in south-eastern Poland, is known for its variety of wildlife living in natural habitat. The study involved 16 animals (8 of each sex) aged 2 years. Meat samples were freeze-dried (Lyovac GT2, Finn-Aqua) and then mineralised in a microwave mineraliser (Ethos Plus, Milestone). Samples prepared in this way were later analysed for the concentration of minerals, using various techniques. The content of heavy metals (Cd and Pb) was determined by atomic emission spectroscopy, while the levels of other elements (Na, K, Mg, Zn, Fe and Cu) were assayed using an atomic absorption spectrometer. The analyses indicated no significant statistical differences between males and females in the quantity of most metals in their bodies, except copper (Cu), whose average amount was higher in meat samples from females (7.5 mg kg-1) than from males (6.15 mg kg-1) (p ≤ 0.01). The determinations of heavy metals revealed that the average lead (Pb) concentration exceeded the acceptable limit only in meat samples from males (0.13 mg kg-1). When examining the levels of minerals in wild boar meat, a positive and statistically significant correlation was found only between the average quantities of K and Mg.

Opis:
Manufacturing of aircraft engine turbine blades requires control of blade geometric parameters at different stages of technological process. Acceleration and automation of measurement process can affect the duration of the finished item production. Modern technologies for measurement of aircraft engine turbine blades are based on numerical machines - measurement process is based on processing of numerical data obtained by measurement using coordinate measuring machines. The paper presents the opportunity of automation of aircraft engine turbine blades measurements using scanner ATOS II Triple Scan with blue light source technology. Coordinate measuring technique allows to specify full methodology for designation of complex dimensions of physical objects and transform them into a computer program space of coordinate measuring devices. Presented paper includes capabilities of device used in the study to improve the measurement process in the technological and economical aspects. Another issue described in the paper is impact of measurement performance in automatic mode on the quality of performance – the numerical model of surface, from the standpoint of accuracy and number of collected data points in time. The paper includes an analysis of conditions related to the measurement works, such as the process of preparing the model, measurement equipment and data processing capacity. As the result methodology for automated scanning measurements of aircraft engine turbine blades will be presented.
