The public space of the city was always the most important place for representation of social, national, religious and other kinds of identities. Today‘s multitude of identities and the speed of their change require new models of their coexistence within central public space of the city. Austro-Hungarian architects have already been confronted with similar issues in the second half of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th centuries. They used the space of the former defensive city walls or other vacant spaces for creating the loop with public buildings, places, streets, parks and monuments that represented cultural and social richness of Austro-Hungarian population and complex structure of authority. Their methods and strategies can be used in today’s practice of city planning.

Opis:
Waveforms measured and recorded in a ferroresonant circuit are the base for many computations, including simulation of ferroresonance circuit over - current/voltage responses and modelling a nonlinear coil. During such a study of ferroresonance phenomenon, the time dependent nonlinear differential equations are derived from R – Ψ(i) – C ferroresonant circuit. The system of nonlinear equations is numerically solved using various algorithm applications. In applied mathematics, in particular the context of the nonlinear dynamical systems analysis, phase – plane/space graphs are a visual display of certain characteristics of kinds of differential equations. The aim of the paper is a full plane/space presentation of all possible states of a test circuit when the ferroresonance occurs. Poincare maps application is also mentioned in the paper.

It is proved that the Window Average Gradient (WAG) scheme designed to detect singularities in the turbulence is approximately equivalent to the Rilbert transform of the "Mexican Rat" wavelet. Several identities are derived between these schemes and their validity are theoretically and experimentally shown through the fluctuating wall shear stress and velocity data taken in the turbulent boundary layer. The instantaneous amplitude-frequency representation of WAG at the large scale is also considered. These results indicate that the wall turbulence is significantly regular. It is shown that the near wall singularities involve in the large scale frequency shift key process and that the corresponding instantaneous phase consists of discontinuous line segments.
W pracy wykazano, że metoda WAG (ang. Windo w Average Gradient) przewidziana do wyszukiwania osobliwości w turbulencji jest w przybliżeniu równoważna transformacji Hilberta falki typu "meksykański kapelusz". Na podstawie badań teoretycznych i doświadczalnych dotyczących fluktuacji naprężeń na ściance oraz rozkładu prędkości w warstwie przyściennej wyprowadzono kilka tożsamości pomiędzy schematami WAG i udowodniono ich prawdziwość. Rozważono także chwilową charakterystykę amplitudowo-częstościową WAG dla dużej skali. Rezultaty analizy wskazały na znaczącą regularność turbulencji przyściennej. Pokazano, że osobliwości obserwowane przy brzegu w dużej skali związane są z procesem przesuwania częstości i odpowiadającym mu nieciągłym zmianom chwilowej fazy.

In this paper, we prove that the topological dual of the Banach space of bounded measurable functions with values in the space of nuclear operators, furnished with the natural topology, is isometrically isomorphic to the space of finitely additive linear operator-valued measures having bounded variation in a Banach space containing the space of bounded linear operators. This is then applied to a stochastic structural control problem. An optimal operator-valued measure, considered as the structural control, is to be chosen so as to minimize fluctuation (volatility). Both existence of optimal policy and necessary conditions of optimality are presented including a conceptual algorithm.

Some general representation formulae for (C₀) m-parameter operator semigroups with rates of convergence are obtained by the probabilistic approach and multiplier enlargement method. These cover all known representation formulae for (C₀) one- and m-parameter operator semigroups as special cases. When we consider special semigroups we recover well-known convergence theorems for multivariate approximation operators.

This paper deals with some operator representations φ of a weak*-Dirichlet algebra A, which can be extended to the Hardy spaces Hp(m), associated to A and to a representing measure m of A, for 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞. A characterization for the existence of an extension φp of φ to Lp(m) is given in the terms of a semispectral measure Fφ of φ. For the case when the closure in Lp(m) of the kernel in A of m is a simply invariant subspace, it is proved that the map φp/Hp(m) can be reduced to a functional calculus, which is induced by an operator of class Cρ in the Nagy-Foias sense. A description of the Radon-Nikodym derivative of Fφ is obtained, and the log-integrability of this derivative is proved. An application to the scalar case, shows that the homomorphisms of A which are bounded in Lp(m) norm, form the range of an embedding of the open unit disc into a Gleason part of A.

Opis:
Classical canonical correlation analysis seeks the associations between two data sets, i.e. it searches for linear combinations of the original variables having maximal correlation. Our task is to maximize this correlation. This problem is equivalent to solving the generalized eigenvalue problem. The maximal correlation coefficient (being a solution of this problem) is the first canonical correlation coefficient. In this paper we construct nonlinear canonical correlation analysis in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. The new kernel generalized eigenvalue problem always has the solution equal to one, and this is a typical case of over-fitting. We present methods to solve this problem and compare the results obtained by classical and kernel canonical correlation analysis.

In this paper we extend the well known Riesz lemma to the class of bounded \(\varphi\)-variation functions in the sense of Riesz defined on a rectangle \(I_a^b\subset \mathbb{R}^2\). This concept was introduced in [2], where the authors proved that the space \(BV_\varphi^R (I_a^b;\mathbb{R}\) of such functions is a Banach Algebra. Moreover, they characterized also the Nemytskii operator acting in this space. Thus our result creates a continuation of the paper [2].

Plate-like structures in channel flow are commonly found in engineering. This paper reports a theoretical study on the static aeroelastic instability of an inverted cantilevered plate in an inviscid channel flow through the state space. This study begins with the kernel function of the flow potential determined in the Fourier domain with the help of the mirror image method. Then, the instability equation is derived from the operator theory and transformed in the state space. Finally, with Glauert’s expansion, model functions, and error functions, the instability problem of such a plate has been modeled as a mathematical function approximation problem and solved by the least squares method. The derived instability equation is considered at the continuum level of description, and no approximation appears at the first equation level. The convergence and reliability of the proposed modeling and its solutions approximation are entirely tested, and it can successfully predict the instability boundary, behavior, and the channel effect. Numerical results show that the decreased channel height and asymmetric plate placement in the channel significantly decrease the critical flow velocity. The plate instability modes are close to the plate’s first natural ones and not sensitive to the channel parameters. This conclusion allows further theoretical exploration of a semi-analytical approximation of the instability boundary from the obtained instability equation. The current modeling strategy in a continuum sense may provide a new idea and essential reference for other instability problems.
