Opis:
The current labor market requires dynamic and broadly competent university graduates. An international trend is to promote the teaching of transversal competences. These are not only related to a particular study program or future profession, but are universally applicable in different professions, thus promoting job mobility and flexibility of persons. This is a system of competence-based learning. Universities are currently undergoing paradigmatic changes in the university education system. The paper monitors international and home experiences and recommendations for the development of the competences that prepare graduates for life in society. It specially examines the position of the students´ social and ethical competences. These findings are compared with the results of own research focused on the development of students' ethical competences through the Professional Ethics course at EF UMB.

Introduction: Dissonance between the high ‘technical’ professionalism of nurses and the relatively low level of patient satisfaction with care received is a phenomenon observed in many countries. Many studies show that it occurs in the case of an inadequate interpersonal communication between nurses and patients. Methods: Three basic scopes of communication competences were involved in the research process: a) motivation, b) knowledge, c) skills, and the following three methods were used: 1) documentation analysis (standards, plans and educational programmes); 2) diagnostic survey concerning professional communication competences of nurses in nursing care – a questionnaire form designed by the authors; 3) self-reported communication skills in nursing care – adjective check list. The study group covered a total number of 108 respondents in the following subgroups: 1) professional nurses who, as a rule, were not trained in interpersonal communication (42 respondents); students of nursing covered by a standard educational programme (46 respondents); 3) students of nursing who, in addition to a standard educational programme, attended extra courses in professional interpersonal communications nursing (20 respondents). The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis with the use of descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing. Results: The results of studies indicate poor efficacy of shaping communication competences of nurses based on education in the area of general psychology and general interpersonal communication. Communication competences acquired during undergraduate nursing education, are subject to regression during occupational activity. Discussion: Methods of evaluating communication competences are useful in constructing group and individual programmes focused on specific communication competences rather than on general communication skills.

The text presents partial results of research on theory and practice integration in future teachers’ undergraduate training. The aim was to find out respond- ents’ opinions on the level of theoretical and practical training integration in the processes of developing specific professional competences during study. Research tools consisted of a self-designed questionnaire and interviews (only partial questionnaire outputs are included because of limited content of study). The research sample was composed of 171 students of a master’s degree in teaching at three MBU1 teacher training faculties. The obtained data were processes by tools of descriptive and multi-dimensional statistics. Results indicate great discontent of the respondents with the low level of connection between theoretical and practical training in the processes of developing special professional competences during study and provide starting points for necessary system changes in the theoretical and professional practical training of future teachers.

Introduction Since 1 January 2016 certain groups of nurses and midwives (N&Ms) have been entitled to administer certain medicines to patients and issue perceptions for it (independent nurse prescribing - INP), issue prescriptions upon physician's order (supplementary nurse prescribing - SNP) and to refer patients to determined diagnostic tests. Students’ knowledge on the possibility and principles of nurse prescribing seems to be important. Aim of study To evaluate the knowledge of 1st year students of Bachelor’s studies in nursing and midwifery on the possibility and principles of prescribing authorities of N&Ms in Poland. Material and methods 2338 1st year students of Bachelor’s nursing (1941) and midwifery (398) studies from 26 state higher vocational schools of universities. Own questionnaire assessed in the pilot study; the internal reliability of measurement on the knowledge rating scale was estimated by calculating Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient Results Group of 11% to 64% (depending on a question) gave correct answers. 14 % knew criteria which N&Ms are required to meet in order to refer patients to diagnostic tests. Almost 2/3 of the interviewees also knew where to find the list of active substances allowed in medicines independently prescribed by N&Ms. The internal reliability of the knowledge rating scale was 0,389. Conclusions The knowledge of students regarding N&Ms’ prescribing powers is superficial, but most of respondents knew the crucial issues. It is necessary to correctly determine education standards and to focus on their implementation tools, so that those concerned could acquire desired competences during studies.

The present paper is the result of a reflection on the professional competences of early childhood teachers. It outlines the considerations on understanding the concept of competences, taking into account their ambiguity and varying semantic scope. The original understanding of specialised artistic competences of the early childhood teachers was presented in conceptual terms and an attempt was made to present the original model of the specialised artistic competences of early childhood teachers in the form of a three-segment structure, created by the distinguished areas of this competence, named by the author as domains of competence, together with their components and basic indicators. The study is addressed to researchers studying this issue and teachers of early school education, it is also supposed to be a voice in the discussion on shaping and development of the specialised artistic competences of early childhood teachers and, according to the author, to encourage reflection in this field.

Background: A dissonance between high ‘technical’ professionalism of nurses and a relatively low level of patient satisfaction with received care is a phenomenon observed in many countries. Method: Theoretical concept and review of current published studies. Discussion: Most reviewed studies show that a low level of patient satisfaction occurs in the case of an inadequate interpersonal communication between nurses and patients. Most studies indicate poor effectiveness of shaping communication competences of nurses based on standard education in the area of general psychology and communication knowledge, because this knowledge does not convert itself ‘spontaneously’ into communication competences during occupational activity. Conclusions: It is necessary to supplement educational programmes for nurses with practical courses in professional interpersonal communication. International experience exchange concerning the shaping of nurses’ communication competences may be limited due to cultural, organizational and systems factors.

Osiągniecie wysokich standardów w zakresie profesjonalnego przygotowania studentów – przyszłych nauczycieli dziecka młodszego możliwe jest tylko dzięki synergii teorii i praktyki. Uczestnictwo w programach stażo-wych stwarza obok praktyk pedagogicznych, doskonałe warunki do nabywania i rozwijania kompetencji zawodowych przyszłego nauczyciela poprzez osobiste doświadczanie. Konfrontacja naukowego i praktycznego oglądu rzeczywistości, przeni-kanie naukowego myślenia do działania przy rozwiązywaniu realnych problemów sprzyjają też konstruowaniu własnych teorii edukacyjnych. Ponadto łączy dwie strategie uczenia się: przed działaniem i w trakcie działania, stanowiąc swoisty pomost pomiędzy wiedzą akademicką a rzeczywistością edukacyjną. Stwarzają okazję do zaistnienia kategorii „stawania się nauczycielem” poprzez poznawanie siebie, swoich możliwości i ograniczeń, a także świadome rozwijanie warsztatu pracy.
Achieving high standards in the field of professional preparation of students-future teachers of a younger child is possible only thanks to the synergy of theory and practice. Participation in internship programs creates, alongside pedagogical on-the-job training, perfect conditions for acquiring and developing professional competences of future teachers through personal experience. Dur-ing the internship, the student may undertake a number of initiatives requiring knowledge – action and reflection. In this way, academic theory and practice integrate and accentuate, filling the space of professional competences, in which the inquisitiveness, creativity and openness of the student, its active and sys-tematic search for knowledge, criticism of research, reflexivity and analytical ap-proach to educational problems are of great importance. Scientific confrontation and practical viewing of reality, a fusion of scientific thinking with action in solving real problems also favors the construction of own educational theories. In addition, it combines two learning strategies: before and during the action, constituting a kind of bridge between academic knowledge and educational real-ity. It is a circumstance for the emergence of the category of “becoming a teacher” through getting to know oneself, one’s possibilities and limitations, as well as a conscious development of a working technique.

Opis:
Documenting the development of professional competences nowadays seems to be a challenge. How to do it? Are there any tools that help you collect and systematize evidence of your own professional development? Employees nowadays often ask themselves these questions. Keeping a portfolio may be the answer to this search for a way to collect information about your professional progress. The purpose of this article is to characterize the method of documenting the development of competences which is the portfolio. Portfolio is a tool that stimulates reflection on the current and desired level of competence as well as facilitates planning of professional development. The idea, essential for keeping a portfolio, is primarily supporting reflective learning through the analysis of knowledge and experience acquired by an individual. This tool also allows you to show the development of a person, especially their professional development and the positioning of its individual elements on a timeline. The recommended starting point for conducting it should be the education preparing for professional work. A portfolio may be kept in a traditional hard copy form i.e. a specific “photo album” or due to the progressive development of computer techniques – in an electronic form, as an e-portfolio. Keeping a portfolio allows not only to collect and systematize data in the area of professional activity of a person – it also facilitates their potential recipients (e.g. employers) to quickly find out what competences a given person possesses. In order to better illustrate the contents presented in this article, the characteristics of the portfolio have been prepared by referring to the specifics of the profession of the occupational therapist emphasizing that the implementation of systematic and thorough professional self-assessment is extremely important especially in the context of the occupational therapist’s responsibility for the quality and reliability of actions taken towards the recipients of occupational therapy.
