Opis:
The study offers an understanding of female gender challenges in career progression in the hospitality industry. It attempts to identify the causes of poor representation of the female gender in manager position. A survey of 30 hotels in the city of Bauchi, Nigeria was made; finding out the representation of women in the general manager position, owners of hotels and employees. Result obtained was analysed using simple percentages. A relative poor career progression of female to male gender was apparent. Conclusions reached suggest that the hospitality industry have a long way in implementing policy on gender equality and therefore recommends that Nigerian university commission build in the hospitality program in its system to enable the female gender easy access to higher degree in hospitality and a resultant effect on their career progression.

Opis:
The broadened thinking of national security has reduced the efficacy of military strategy in dealing with all the various threats that face the world now. For instance, more than half of Nigerians are living in extreme poverty, hence the least deprived can easily sacrifice their lives for terrorist attacks and engage in crime to help relieve the rest of their families from continued suffering. These new actors now have various names, but in essence, they are among the disillusioned poor people. Nigerian militant groups, e.g. Niger Delta Militant, Boko Haram, and the Indigeneous People of Biafra (IPOB) have some undertones to these realities. Due to the above reasons, there is a need for the Nigerian military to re-strategise and rethink security and other economic related roles within the country. To find a solution that could lead to success in both tackling insurgencies as well as underdevelopment, this work explores the economic role the military force can play towards Nigeria’s national development. The investigation focuses on the non-military and non-political role of the military. The conclusion of this research offers a framework for rethinking counterinsurgency, thus arguing that the traditional role of the military as the guardian of national sovereignty should remain unchanged because of the strategic uncertainties in the African region. This role has to be complemented with a new role, which is that of contributing to social projects as well as contributing its resources towards poverty alleviation.

Opis:
This paper departs from the assumption that no other drama disposes of such a broad, international, and symbolically charged interpretation history as Nathan the Wise (1779). While the play was censored in Nazi Germany, European (and often Jewish) authors, who had sought refuge in the United States, brought Nathan along to perpetuate Lessing’s plea for religious tolerance. In this transatlantic adaptation process, however, the authors chose to adjust the original text to the cultural as well as societal and political conditions both in their old and new homeland(s). Could Nathan stand up to these new challenges?

Opis:
The Panarion treatise is a dogmatic and polemical writing that earned Epiphanius his well-deserved reputation of a zealous defender of the Orthodox faith and a “hunter of heresies”. Its list of heresies was translated into Church Slavonic during the 1st Bulgarian Empire at the time of tsar Symeon and quickly spread throughout the Slavic-Orthodox world. It is a part of the oldest Slavonic version of Syntagma of XIV titles without any commentary (Syntagma XIV titulorum sine scholiis), called Efremovskaya Kormchaya. It is a monumental compendium of the centenary heresiological literature, and is the most complete treatise on heresies that the age of the Fathers left us. The paper presents a description of the three books and seven volumes of the Panarion with a list of eighty heresies, sects and schisms – twenty heresies before the incarnation of Christ and sixty of Christian times. Within the work attributed to Epiphanius, a chapter of the Ecclesiastical History of Theodoret of Cyrus and two other chapters of the theological-philosophical work Arbiter or Umpire by Joannes Philoponus have been identified. A number of 103 heresies was revealed, all of them ascribed to Epiphanius. It is presented as a preliminary study of 140 terms used by an anonymous Slavic translator. To the various lexemes, two different criteria have been applied: grammatical and semantic. The research determines 15 ethnonyms and eponyms, 60 anthroponyms formed on the names of the heresiarchs, 30 calques from Greek and 35 compounds. Among the latter, two distinct groups have been distinguished: structural calques, exactly corresponding to the Greek models, and “neologisms”, formally independent of the Greek formations. Adaptation to the original Bulgarian linguistic system was achieved by the translator (or the editor) by using interpretative supplements, i.e. glosses. It is assumed that the translator’s primary objective was to remain as faithful as possible to the Greek original. It turns out that the translator showed excellent knowledge of the comple XGreek models of word formation and exceptional skills in adapting them to the Palaeoslavic linguistic system. The compound lexemes were created for stylistic reasons and are a result of a specific translation technique.

Book of Hosea
Knowledge of God

Opis:
The document of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, called What is man? A Journey through Biblical Anthropology points out in Chapter 1 (“The Human being created by God”), par. 33 that “[t]he failure to recognise the ‘created’ nature of the human being is made explicit in history as an arrogant presumption…” (46) and in par. 34 that “[a]n extraordinary endowment of intelligence, wealth and power gives the human being the illusion of being equal to God. To expose this deception of conscience the Lord predicts the inglorious end of the arrogant” (47). Many of the critiques and prophecies of Hosea are proclaimed in a period of Israelite history which reflects false and arrogant presumptions of the people of God. During the reign of Jeroboam II (ca. 784–753 BC) Israel experienced economic growth, territorial expansion and peace with the Arameans and the Judeans. However, especially following the Syro-Ephraimite war (734–732 BC) it became clear that Israel’s political and military manoeuvres and his trust in his own strength can only lead to disaster. This is one of the recurring messages of Hosea who points out that the only way to stand is to believe and trust in God alone. Many of his images and concepts describe Israel’s false beliefs and presumptions which are based on the erroneous knowledge of God. Hos 7:8-16 can be read as an essence of this message. Its literary devices and notions emphasize that while Israel appears to be potent, he is in fact impotent, the undiscerning nation’s “strength” is withering away. Israel seems wise and knowledgeable when he is in fact unwise and does not know the way of life. In the context of the entire book this passage affirms that the basis of the relation of God and Israel is always the right knowledge of him which entails the right knowledge of the self and of its place in the universe. One of God’s greatest mercies for creation and Israel is that he is available, he can be sought, found and known through his words and deeds. Hosea as the mediator of God conveys to Israel that they can call upon God, seek him and know him. While his message is for a special historical period and circumstances, it is relevant for all ages when humans ignore their created nature and aspire to be powerful, self-sufficient, intelligent in economic, scientific, political and military matters.

Opis:
The moral reinterpretation of Jesus conducted by Kant, Lessing and Feuerbach, is an interesting matter when it comes to the philosophy of religion. The abovementioned German philosophers claimed that Jesus ought to be understood only as a moral archetype and a revolutionist in morality. This concept arose on the grounds of moral religion which was one of the most interesting ideas of the Enlightenment. Thus, exploring this moral reinterpretation of Jesus is just an excuse to study the concept of moral religion. Despite the fact that this idea is no longer current, it has immense influence on the contemporary philosophy of religion. Therefore, understanding the concept of moral religion can broaden the context of the contemporary discussion.

Opis:
Structural, elastic, electronic, and optical properties of cubic perovskite $CsCaCl_3$ are calculated using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method in the density functional theory. The exchange-correlation potential is evaluated using the local density approximation and generalized gradient approximation. Further, the modified Becke-Johnson potential is also applied for studying the electronic and optical properties. The calculated structural properties such as equilibrium lattice constant, the bulk modulus and its pressure derivative are in good agreement with the available data. The elastic properties such as elastic constants, anisotropy factor, shear modulus, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio are calculated. The calculations of electronic band structure, density of states and charge density show that this compound has an indirect energy band gap (M-Γ) with a mixed ionic and covalent bonding. Calculations of the optical spectra such as the real and imaginary parts of dielectric function, optical reflectivity, absorption coefficient, optical conductivity, refractive index, extinction coefficient and electron energy loss are performed for the energy range of 0-30 eV. Most of the studied properties are reported for the first time for $CsCaCl_3$.

Efrem nazywa Bardesanesa „syryjski filozof’, „nauczyciel Manesa”, „starszy brat (Manesa)”. Podobnie marcjonici otrzymują status przodków manichejczyków i nazwę „starsi bracia”.

Opis:
Numerous scholars argue that the book of Ruth, with its story concerning mixed marriages of Judahites with Moabite women, consciously opposes the exclusivist rhetoric of the books of Ezra–Nehemiah. However, a detailed analysis of the narrative rhetoric of the book of Ruth, especially compared to the supersessive rhetoric of the roughly contemporary books of Samuel–Kings, reveals that the main purpose of the book of Ruth was to delegitimize the claims of the tribe of Ephraim to domination in Israel, and against this background to promote the tribe of Judah with its Davidic dynasty. Therefore, the book of Ruth most probably served as a rhetorical-ideological model for the much more elaborate, likewise consciously Judean narrative of the books of Samuel–Kings.
