    Advantages of CAD/CAM systems are unquestionable and they are the effect of above mentioned capabilities. However, before appointing any system for a particular use, one should carefully analyze their own current and future needs as well as the state and requirements of machinery one owes. An emphasis should be put on the fact that there are no ready to use integrated manufacturing systems, which are to be purchased and simply to be applied in the facility. Each user should look for his own way to solve the problem.
    Zalety systemów CAD/CAM są niewątpliwe i wynikają z wielu wyżej opisanych możliwości, ale przed wytypowaniem systemu dla konkretnego zastosowania należy bliżej przyjrzeć się własnym potrzebom, aktualnym i przyszłym, oraz posiadanemu i planowanemu parkowi maszynowemu. Należy zwrócić uwagę na to, że nie ma gotowych zintegrowanych systemów wytwarzania, które można by kupić i bezpośrednio zastosować w zakładzie. Każdy użytkownik musi szukać indywidualnej drogi do rozwiązania tego problemu.

    The article presents the authors’ computer program for designing and dimensioning columns in reinforced concrete structures taking into account phenomena affecting their behaviour and information referring to design as per EC. The computer program was developed with the use of C++ programming language. The program guides the user through particular dimensioning stages: from introducing basic data such as dimensions, concrete class, reinforcing steel class and forces affecting the column, through calculating the creep coefficient taking into account the impact of imperfection depending on the support scheme and also the number of mating members At load shit, buckling length, to generating the interaction curve graph. The final result of calculations provides two dependence points calculated as per methods of nominal stiffness and nominal curvature. The location of those points relative to the limit curve determines whether the column load capacity is assured or has been exceeded. The content of the study describes in detail the operation of the computer program and the methodology and phenomena which are indispensable at designing axially and eccentrically the compressed members of reinforced concrete structures as per the European standards.

    The article contains a survey of methods of the mobile development with the FMX Application platform, which allows to build multi-platform solutions for the efficient Human-Computer Interaction. The test projects illustrate some important conclusions regarding the design and testing of mobile applications for iOS and Android operating systems. They demonstrate navigation controls designed in the skeumorphic and flat manner with some comparisons based on interviews with users in several age ranges. Test apps provide also touch gestures, sensor integration and connections to remote internet data sources. Some additional considerations about the localization and internationalization of the mobile applications built with the FMX platform were also presented. The proposed implementation of the software engineering methods for the mobile application development provides new insights, valuable for software developers dealing with the new FMX platform on iOS and Android.
    Współczesne oprogramowanie coraz częściej tworzone jest specjalnie dla urządzeń mobilnych – smartfonów i tabletów. Projekty tego rodzaju powinny spełniać szereg wymogów związanych ze specyfiką obsługiwanego sprzętu i mobilnych systemów operacyjnych. Właściwe zaprojektowanie pośrednictwa użytkowego pozwala wówczas zbudować efektywne narzędzia interakcji człowiekkomputer (Human-Computer Interaction – HCI). Istotnym problemem związanym z budowaniem aplikacji dla urządzeń mobilnych jest duże rozwarstwienie systemów operacyjnych oraz wspierających je platform programistycznych. Z tego względu celowe jest dążenie do opracowania rozwiązań uniwersalnych, pozwalających w jak największym stopniu zunifikować bazę kodu źródłowego. Założenia takie spełnia platforma FMX (Firemonkey) opracowana w firmie Embarcadero, pozwalajaca tworzyć oprogramowanie zarówno dla systemów klasy desktop (Windows i OS X), jak i systemów mobilnych (iOS oraz Android). Platforma FMX ułatwia projektowanie interakcji z użytkownikiem za pomocą pośrednictwa budowanego za pomocą wydajnej grafiki wektorowej 2D oraz 3D, uzupełnionej o efekty animacji i przekształceń grafiki bitmapowej. Za pomocą wbudowanych stylów można uzyskać wrażenie wykorzystania natywnych elementów interfejsu różnych systemów operacyjnych, w tym systemów mobilnych. Ponadto Firemonkey zapewnia wsparcie dla usług oferowanych przez mobilny system operacyjny, takich jak dostęp do aparatu cyfrowego, akcelerometru, kompasu czy GPS. W artykule przedstawiono przykłady aplikacji mobilnych zawierających podstawowe elementy interakcji człowiek-komputer na urządzeniu mobilnym pracującym pod kontrolą systemu operacyjnego iOS. Ponadto omówione zostały ważne z punktu widzenia inżynierii oprogramowania aspekty związane ze specyfiką projektowania oraz testowania aplikacji mobilnych.

    The article describes the development of fundamentals of machine elements and assemblies design processes automation using artificial intelligence, and descriptions of structural elements’ features in a natural language. In the proposed interactive automated design systems, computational artificial intelligence methods allow communication by speech and natural language, resulting in analyses of design engineer’s messages, analyses of constructions, encoding and assessments of constructions, CAD system controlling and visualizations. The system is equipped with several adaptive intelligent layers for human biometric identification, recognition of speech and handwriting, recognition of words, analyses and recognition of messages, enabling interpretation of messages, and assessments of human reactions. The article proposes a concept of intelligent processing for analysis of descriptions of machine elements’ structural features in a natural language. It also presents the developed methodology for similarity analysis between structural features of designed machine elements and corresponding antipatterns allowing normalization of parameters of the analysed structural solutions.

    Computed tomography and rapid prototyping techniques can be used to construct and fabricate large size bone models for orthopaedics. Rapid Prototyping technology enables the fabrication of a true-to-scale bone joint model based on 3D virtual models, generated by segmenting patients’ CT images. The model can be used to plan, to simulate, to assist prosthesis implantation for difficult cases of THR (Total Hip Replacements). The main restriction of implementing such models into medical practice is high cost of their production. Physical models of pelvic bones, were constructed on the basis of data collected during standard CT examinations. A method of development of a large-size model while fulfilling the requirement for reducing the price of model fabrication in the article was presented. The method can be used for fabrication the models with 3DP technique. This paper also discusses the issue of production costs when utilizing other RP techniques as well as their usefulness in practice.

    Designing distributed systems requires consideration of many, usually conflicting parameters. The problem of selection and adaptation of solutions for the set of possible tasks, including evaluation of ambiguity and variability characteristics also contributes to the indeterminacy. Since part of the parameters taken into account in the design process changes its meaning, during the exploitation, the project created before cannot meet the requirements posed in front of him. Therefore it becomes necessary to include variability in time of the selected characteristics in the design [1]. In this paper, the way of taking indeterminacy into account with evaluation of the solution quality is presented.
    Projektowanie systemów rozproszonych, tak jak wiele innych procesów projektowych, wymaga uwzględnienia licznych, zwykle sprzecznych ze sobą parametrów opisujących charakterystyki techniczne, ekonomiczne, uwarunkowania społeczne itp. projektowanych (modelowanych) obiektów. Próba odwzorowania złożonych relacji pomiędzy tymi charakterystykami prowadzi w większości przypadków do zadań NP-zupełnych. Z drugiej zaś strony, próby uproszczenia w tym zakresie modeli projektowanych obiektów, bazując na wybranych kryteriach (pojedynczych obszarach parametrów opisujących obiekt) nie pozwalają uzyskać pożądanych rezultatów. Problem wyboru i dostosowania dostępnych rozwiązań do zbioru potencjalnych zadań, z uwzględnieniem niejednoznaczności oceny oraz zmiennością charakterystyk opisujących obiekty przyczynia się do powstania nieokreśloności. Ponieważ w trakcie eksploatacji systemów rozproszonych część parametrów uwzględnianych w procesie projektowania zmienia swoje znaczenie, stworzony wcześniej projekt może nie spełniać stawianych przed nim wymagań. Konieczne staje się zatem uwzględnienie w projektowaniu zmienności w czasie wybranych charakterystyk systemu czy sieci komputerowej [1]. W artykule zaprezentowano sposób uwzględniania nieokreśloności w procesie projektowania systemów rozproszonych, a szczególnie systemów połączeniowych. Zaprezentowane własności uwzględniania nieokreśloności pozwalają na szerokie zastosowanie ich w przypadku projektowania systemów charakteryzujących się złożonością modeli ich opisujących oraz zmiennością warunków funkcjonowania.

    The paper presents a proposal to take into account the language comprehension paradigm in an attempt to improve the design methodology of human-computer dialogues. It is assumed that the user treats a system as a subject, i.e. perceives communication with the system as a kind of discourse and intuitively treats it as cognition of the world through a fixed image of objective linguistic signs. Due to the fact that every end-user of a computer system has an individual linguistic competence, thesaurus, habits, previous experiences, one can never guarantee that identical semantic references arise in a variety of audiences. The situation becomes more stable if one considers the communication aspect of comprehension on the basis of practice (familiarity of things). It may be expected that a qualified professional user will commit fewer errors, caused by a poor dialogue understanding while interacting with the system. Therefore, the main task of a designer is to speed up and facilitate the learning process, which can be achieved by running the process of constructive rational understanding.

    This paper presents an innovative solution in the form of a virtual reality (VR) and high performance computing (HPC) system dedicated to aid designing rotary forming processes with laser beam reheating the material formed. The invented method allowing a virtual machine copy to be coupled with its actual counterpart and a computing engine utilizing GPU processors of graphic NVidia cards to accelerate computing are discussed. The completed experiments and simulations of the 316L stainless steel semi-product spinning process showed that the developed VR-HPC system solution allows the manufacturing process to be effectively engineered and controlled in industrial conditions.

    This paper presents a computer simulation of reflected and scattered laser radiation for calculating the angle of laser shields performed with the Laser Shield Solver computer program. The authors describe a method of calculating the shield angle for laser shields which protect workers against reflected and scattered laser radiation and which are made from different materials. The main assumptions of the program, which calculates and simulates reflected laser radiation from any material and which can be used for designing shield angles, are presented. Calculations are compared with measurements of reflected laser radiation. The results for one type of laser and different materials which interacted with a laser beam showed that the Laser Shield Solver was an appropriate tool for designing laser shields and its simulations of reflected laser radiation distribution have practical use.

    The article presents an original model supporting the design of AOI systems aimed at the detection of surface defects. The analysis of the state of the art shows that the problem of the design of automated systems employing noninvasive measurement methods, including AOI methods, dedicated to specialist tasks connected with surface quality control, is actually a prospective future research direction, as it is directly connected with the need to speed up and rationalise the design processes. The research problem presented in the article was defined through the determination of the scope of automated tasks aimed at the support of the design of AOI systems and methods for their execution. The research method consisted in the analysis of the available numerical methods and computer simulations enabling the selection of the solution facilitating the effectiveness of the decision-making process.
    Artykuł przedstawia autorski model wspomagania projektowania systemów AOI przeznaczonych do detekcji wad powierzchniowych. Analiza stanu wiedzy wskazuje, że problematyka projektowania zautomatyzowanych systemów wykorzystujących nieinwazyjne metody pomiarowe, w tym metody AOI, dedykowanych do specjalizowanych zadań związanych z kontrolą jakości powierzchni jest perspektywicznym kierunkiem w rozwoju badań naukowych, co spowodowane jest koniecznością przyśpieszenia i jakościowego usprawnienia procesów projektowania. Problem badawczy podejmowany w artykule określony został poprzez ustalenie zakresu zautomatyzowanych działań, których celem jest wspomaganie prac projektowych nad systemami AOI oraz metod przeznaczonych do ich realizacji. Metoda badawcza polegała na przeprowadzeniu analizy dostępnych metod numerycznych, oraz symulacji komputerowych w celu wyłonienia rozwiązania, umożliwiającego skuteczne wspomaganie procesów decyzyjnych.

    Opis:
    Special conditions of applying curtain fabrics, i.e. vertical hanging and lightening with transmitted light, require a different approach to designing. It was found that weaving patterns can significantly affect the continuity of the structure, particularly in the pattern area. In such cases, the effect of patterning may be disturbed by the light transmitted through uncontrolled clearances of a fabric. The study identifies the need to modify the structure, based on basic knowledge of the geometry of a fabric’s structure. A repair system aided by an original computer program was developed on such a basis. The method was validated for structures with a stratified system of thread that were produced with a Picanol rapier loom. For the purposes of results presentation, ImageJ software for computer image analysis was used.
    Specjalne warunki stosowania tkanin zasłonowych, tj. pionowe zawieszenie, w oświetleniu światłem przechodzącym wymagają innego podejścia do projektowania. Stwierdzono, że wzorowanie splotowe może znacząco wpływać na ciągłość struktury, szczególnie w miejscach wzoru. W takich przypadkach efekt wzorowania może być zakłócony światłem przechodzącym przez niekontrolowane prześwity tkaniny. W pracy zidentyfikowano potrzebę modyfikacji struktury w oparciu o podstawową wiedzę z zakresu geometrii struktury tkaniny. Na jej podstawie opracowano system naprawczy wspomagany autorskim programem komputerowym. Walidację metody prowadzono na strukturach z nawarstwionym układem wątku, wykonanych na krośnie rapierowym Picanol. Do celów prezentacji wyników użyto program ImageJ do komputerowej analizy obrazu.
