Opis:
A bauxite ore from Um Bogma, Southwestern Sinai, Egypt was mineralogically characterized. It contains 70% gibbsite, 13.2% quartz and 11.0% kaolinite. Beneficiation of the ore reduced the quartz content to 2.4%. Hydrometallurgical processing of the beneficiated gibbsitic bauxite was performed by hot leaching with sodium carbonate and lime in an attritor. Aluminium was converted to soluble sodium aluminate low in SiO2 (<0.1%) and the recovery was over 95% for a short leaching duration of 30 minutes at 90 °C. The residue was essentially composed of calcium silicate.

Opis:
The dynamic of soil moisture may be studied through water flux, storage, moisture conductivity and movement into the soil pore spaces. The volume of pore space in the soil and also the size, shape, type, continuity and distribution of the pores are important characteristics related to the storage, conductivity and movement of water and gases. The movement of water by gravitational forces in the natural soils occurs principally through the non-capillary pores (i.e. rapidly drained pores), while other movements occur in capillaries which may be classified as coarse and fine capillary pores. The unsaturated condition of soil water is a common state in nature after rainfall or as a result of irrigation, therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop equations to describe and estimate the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity K(θ) in relation to soil pore-size classes that contained the available water in the soil root zone. The equations were based on a water-retention curve, saturated hydraulic conductivity and pore-size function measured from undisturbed cores. The equations were applied to three soil profiles from the Nile Delta and compared with measured K(θ) data from two field experiments, which were conducted in clay in an unsaturated condition and in sandy soil areas using the internal drainage in situ method. The pore size function f(r) represents the fraction of the total pore whichvolume, which was contributed by pores with radii from 0 to ∞ at the prevailing degree of saturation. Data showed the applicability of the suggested equations for calculating unsaturated hydraulic conductivity in the soil pores even for soils with a high proportion of clay.

Opis:
The purpose of this study is to predict the contribution of the water table in moistening the root zone using theoretical and empirical equations containing the parameters of evapotranspiration, crop factor, and capillary rise in relation to the hydrophysical properties of soil. Five alluvial (clay) soil profiles located at middle Nile Delta were investigated for the application of the assumed equations. Four areas of soils were cultivated with wheat and clover in the winter and maize in the summer, and citrus trees in 2014/2015 growing season. Soil samples from the investigated areas were subjected to chemical and physical analyses. Water table depths were determined using field piezometers in the same places where the soil samples were collected. The other hydro-physical parameters were estimated. It was found that the water table contributed 20-40% of the irrigation water applied to the root zone in winter and 20% or less during the summer in the studied soils areas. An equation was derived to estimate the sorptivity (S) under dry conditions and at steady state infiltration. It was observed that S is decreased from unsaturated state to steady-state infiltration by 23.1 to 45.7% in cultivated soils and to 55.2% in uncultivated soil. Infiltration functions were estimated. It was suggested that the sorptivity at the steady infiltration rate (steady sorptivity, Sw) may be used to predict the hydraulic conductivity and the basic infiltration rate Ib. The calculated values of Ib by Sw corresponded to those obtained by infiltration experiment. This confirmed the significance of steady Sw as a new functional infiltration parameter. Also, data showed that the values of K(θ) calculated by the proposed equations were in the common ranges for such soils. The equations used (models) related K(θ) to soil pore radius (r) which were in turn based on soil hydraulic data including water retention h(θ), field basic infiltration rate, water sorptivity (S) and the distribution density function f(r) of soil pore size. The steady Sw parameter was used in the prediction of the hydraulic conductivity K(θ) and the basic (steady) infiltration rate Ib. It was concluded that in winter the water table contributed 20-40% of irrigation water applied to the root zone and less than 20% during the summer in the studied soils areas. These values should be considered in calculating the crop water requirements.

Opis:
The objective of this paper was to develop agro-climatic zones in the old cultivated lands of Egypt in the Nile Delta and Valley using climate normals from 1985–2014 to facilitate better irrigation water management under water scarcity conditions. 30-yearmonthly climate data were collected for 17 agricultural governorates in Egypt and yearly averages and 30-year averages were calculated. BISm model was used to calculate yearly averages of potential evapotranspiration (PET) and 30-year average for each governorate. Analysis of variance was done using one factor randomize complete block design, with number of years as replicates. Furthermore, the mean, the range and R2 were calculated to test the strength of the relationship between PET and climate elements. The means of PET for each governorate was separated and ranked in ascending order using least significant difference test (LSD0.05). The results identified 7 agro-climatic zones (LSD0.05 = 0.146). These zones were: (1) Alexandria; (2) Demiatte, Kafr El-Sheikh and Dakhlia; (3) El-Behira, and El-Gharbia; (4) El-Minofia, El-Sharkia, El-Kalubia, Giza and El-Fayom; (5) Beni Sweif, El-Minia, Assuit and Sohag; (6) Qena; and (7) Aswan. Such zoning will increase the ability of the Egyptian policy makers to prepare the appropriate water management and development policies as a result of the availability of proper information on each zone aiming at efficient use of the limited water resources.
Zebrano miesięczne dane klimatyczne z 30 lat z 17 gubernatorstw o charakterze rolniczym w Egipcie i obliczono wartości średnie roczne analizowanych parametrów oraz średnie z 30 lat. Użyto modelu BISm do obliczenia średnich rocznych wartości ewapotranspiracji potencjalnej (ETP) i średniej wartości ETP z 30 lat dla każdego gubernatorstwa. Przeprowadzono jednoczynnikową analizę wariancji losowych bloków z liczbą lat jako powtórzeniem. Ponadto obliczono średnią, zakres i współczynnik determinacji R2 dla ustalenia siły zależności pomiędzy ETP i czynnikami klimatycznymi. Średnie wartości ETP obliczono dla każdego gubernatorstwa i uporządkowano rosnąco, stosując test najmniejszej istotnej różnicy (LSD0,05). Wyodrębnione strefy to: 1) Aleksandria, 2) Demiatte, Kafr El-Sheikh i Dakhlia, 3) El-Behira i El-Gharbia, 4) El-Minofia, El-Sharkia, El-Kalubia, Giza i El-Fayom, 5) Beni Sweif, El-Minia, Assuit i Sohag, 6) Qena i 7) Assuan. Podział na te strefy przyczyni się do zwiększenia zdolności czynników decyzyjnych w Egipcie do prowadzenia odpowiedniej gospodarki wodnej i polityki rozwoju dzięki dostępności do właściwej informacji o każdej strefie w celu efektywnego użytkowania ograniczonych zasobów wodnych.

Opis:
Three problems in the taxonomy of Pancratium in Egypt are the lack of publications, a lack of clarity about the relationships between recently distinguished species, and the lack of markers for examining the levels and patterns of variation in rare and endemic species; the latter hinders work in plant conservation genetics. In this study we reassessed the taxonomic status of the Pancratium species of Egypt, and examined morphological and genetic variation within and between species, using specimens from different populations collected throughout its distribution range in the country. Our assessment was based on 38 macromorphological characters mainly representing vegetative parts, flowers, fruits and seeds, in addition to RAPD data. The results revealed five morphologically distinguished Pancratium species in Egypt, of which P. trianthum Herb. is newly recorded. Species identification was confirmed by two phenetic dendrograms generated with 26 quantitative morphological characters and RAPD data, while species delimitation was verified by principal component analysis. The diagnostic floral characters are those of the perianth, corona teeth, pistil, stamens, aerial scape, spathe, and number of flowers. The retrieved RAPD polymorphic bands show better resolution of the morphologically and ecologically closely allied Pancratium species (P. arabicum and P. maritimum), and also confirm the morphological and ecological divergence of P. tortuosum from the other studied species. These results are supported by the constructed UPGMA dendrogram.

Opis:
The study of language and grammar is one of the most fundamental parts of an education, and India has a long and sophisticated tradition of language and grammar teaching (vyākarana) that is as old as the Indian scripts and writing themselves. Starting around the fourth century BCE with the grammatical treatises by Pānini and his commentators, the Indian grammarian tradition developed through several distinct schools of grammar and language study. A historical study of these traditions done on the basis of a normal literary history focused on the places and dates of textual composition yields a chronological overview, where certain major traditions are seen as remaining popular over time through a steady production of new texts, whereas other minor systems become replaced by the development of new schools. In contrast, a microhistorical study that assesses the popularity of the different traditions of grammar by examining their concrete textual representations in a particular manuscript collection reveals a local historical record of the popularity of each system within a specific educational community. The present essay provides a microhistorical study of the Digambara manuscript collection Āmer Śāstrabhandār from Āmer and Jaipur in Rajasthan dating from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. It contributes to the educational history of India by revealing an unexpected continued popularity of the late medieval Sārasvata grammar tradition in the Jaipur area long after this minor grammatical system otherwise has been thought to have gone out of vogue.

In most countries, controlled landfills are currently the most common disposal method for municipal solid wastes (MSWs). Despite many benefits, the generation of heavily contaminated leachate with substantial differences in both chemical composition and flow rate represents a major drawback. The realization of this has compelled authorities to adopt ever more stringent establishment of pollution control requirements. Landfill leachate is a serious problem in the treatments of municipal solid wastes using landfills methods. This leachate is usually heavily contaminated, but little attention is paid to its treatment. Optimal treatment of leachates to completely decrease the harmful environmental impacts is today’s challenge. However, the complex composition of leachates makes it challenging to formulate general recommendations. Leachate variability, particularly over time and within sites, suggests that the most appropriate treatments are adaptable, universal, and simple. Landfill leachate is characterized by high biological and chemical oxygen demand and is usually composed of undesirable ingredients such as inorganic and organic pollutants. Landfill leachate varies with landfill age and content, decomposition methods, hydrological and climate conditions. Recirculation of leachate does not affect alterations in the degree of bio-degradability of the waste. During landfill operations, recirculation of leachate is often applied to help stabilize landfill degradation. Leachate recirculation is widely used in practical engineering, and recirculation using vertical wells is one of the more effective methods.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are facing barriers to grow due to the lack of structured procedures for upgrading and allocating the limited resources. To overcome these drawbacks and to improve business capabilities, a structured framework to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic and upgrading study is presented in this paper. The proposed framework involves four phases. First, the external and internal strategic factors, which can affect the enterprises’ performance are evaluated using strategic planning and assessment tools. Second, key upgrade performance indicators are developed and evaluated using multi-attribute rating techniques to guide, evaluate, and track progress of upgrading process. Third, a set of upgrade strategies are generated and evaluated using resource allocation model. Finally, a periodic re-evaluation plan is introduced to monitor the implementation progress. The developed framework for performance evaluation and upgrading is suitable to be used as a structured know-how procedure in manufacturing enterprises and can support entrepreneurs in their strategic decisions. To validate the proposed framework, a data set was collected from a local housecore company. As a result, one package of the efficient frontier strategies that represents the best use of resources was proposed for implementation.

Opis:
In the early 2000s, several studies anticipated that a generation of diasporic writers would emerge in the Spanish context. This prediction has been definitely fulfilled during the last decade with the publication of the works by Laila Karrouch, Najat El Hachmi and Saïd El Kadaoui, all of them based in Catalonia. These new diasporic writers, who left Morocco being kids, set a contrast with the previous representations of immigration. The process of border-crossing is lived and incorporated by them, and not only imagined and recreated as it is the case for the writers on either side of the border. Hence, the current paper proposes a reading of Jo també sóc catalana by Najat El Hachmi and Cartes al meu fill. Un català de soca-rel, gairebé by Saïd El Kadaoui, focusing particularly on how these authors position themselves at the border as a mediating space. For this purpose, I will firstly draw a brief outline of the social and historical context in which these two autobiographies are published and the literary trajectories of both El Hachmi and El Kadaoui. In this regard, it is crucial to explore the specifics of Catalonia because these may explain why this first generation of diasporic authors occurs there and not somewhere else in Spain. Secondly, I will discuss how the formal aspects of the two autobiographies contribute to conveying a message with political implications. Finally, I will analyse how El Hachmi and El Kadaoui position themselves at the border and use their intimacy as a political tool to set themselves up as referents for the next generation. From the border, they create a space of enunciation from which they can tell their story and warn their own children of the typifications that they may experience as diasporic subjects. The border becomes not just a space for public intervention but the legacy they hand over to the forthcoming generation.

The GASVM scheme is applied on observed monitored data of a pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant (PWRNPP) to classify its associated faults. Compared to the standard SVM model, simulation of GASVM indicates its superiority when applied on the dataset with unbalanced classes. GASVM scheme can gain higher classification with accurate and faster learning speed.

Colocasia esculenta (Taro) is an edible tuberous plant; however, corms are its most worldwide consumed part while the corm powder is widely used in food industries. In this work, a sulphated polysaccharide extract of C. esculenta corm (SCE) was prepared and its cancer chemopreventive properties was explored. The amending of carcinogen metabolism and radical scavenging affinity revealed that SCE is a strong tumor anti-initiation agent via suppressing cytochrome P450-1A and enhancing glutathione and the carcinogen detoxification enzyme; glutathione S-transferase. SCE exhibited a strong scavenging affinity towards critical radicals (hydroxyl and peroxyl). It induced lymphocyte growth and modulated the macrophage functions into an anti-inflammatory profile, via elevating macrophage proliferation and its binding affinity of fluorescein isothiocyanate-lipopolysaccharide (FITC-LPS) and inhibiting nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor-α generation. Furthermore, SCE showed a potent cytotoxicity against human breast MCF-7 carcinoma cells (IC50 27.73 µg/mL), whereas SCE treatment inhibited the activity of histone deacetylase (HDAC IC50 37.70 µg/mL) and disturbed the pattern of cell cycle phases. An arrest in both S- and G2/M-phases was linked with shifted cell populations towards late apoptosis and necrosis, as detected by flow cytometry.
