Opis:
Background. The aim of our current study was to investigate the possible occurence of pyrethroid (tau−fluvalinate) resistant Varroa mites infestations in 24 randomly chosen apiaries of Warmia−Mazury province of north−east Poland. Methods. The methodology used for the analysis of resistant Varroa strains strictly followed the protocol described by Milani [6, 14]. Results. We identified 3 apiaries that were infested with high risk pyrethroid resistance mites and a further 9 apiaries that were free from this resitance. The brood samples collected from the remaining apiaries did not contain sufficient numbers of parasites to enable us to properly perform the assay. Conclusions. Our finding that 25% of the tested brood samples showed a high risk of fully pyrethroid resistant Varroa mite contamination indicates that resistant Varroa may become wide spread in apiaries in Poland. Interestingly these high risk resistant mites were found in honeybee colonies with low levels of Varroa infestation, with an average rate of 2.16%. We also discuss the role of amitraz (amidine) in the phenomenon of Varroa resistance to pyrethroids.

The mechanical properties of hypoeutectic silumins can be improved through chemical modification as well as chemical elements or technological processing. This study presents the results of modification of an Al-9%SiMg alloy with aluminium, boron, and titanium. The experiments were conducted following a factor design 2³ for 3 independent variables. The influence of the analyzed modifiers on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the processed alloy was presented in graphs. The modification of a hypoeutectic Al-9%SiMg alloy improved the alloy's properties. The results of the tests indicate that the mechanical properties of the modified alloy are determined by the components introduced to the alloy.

Opis:
The X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 duplex stainless steel has an austenitic-ferritic microstructure with an average fraction of each phase of approximately 50%. At the duplex stainless steel the nitrogen serves to significantly improve the corrosion resistance of the alloy also in the welded condition. These steels present the excellent corrosion resistance of austenite steel, and the high mechanical behaviour of ferrite steel. However, the performance presented by duplex stainless steels can be drastically reduced by undesirable phases, such as sigma phase, chi phase, secondary austenite and a lot of chromium-rich and carbides precipitates. In this case an upper temperature limit of 300°C has been placed in the use of X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 steel in the industry mainly due to 475°C embrittlement. The purpose of this work was to ascertain how 60 min isothermal heat treatments at 500°C and corrosion time influence on the relative mass loss, profile roughness parameters and endothermal process by dynamic scanning calorimetry curves of heating measurement from 400 to 600°C of X2CrNiMoN22-5-3 duplex stainless steel. The influence of boiling nitric acid on the steel corrosion resistance was investigated using weight loss and profile roughness parameters.

The article is a sort of advanced publication workshop prepared by a group of M.Sc. students in ICT participating in the course on QIT. The idea behind the publishing exercise is to try to link, if possible, individual own work just under realization for the thesis with new unique possibilities offered by the QIT. Each chapter is written by a single author defining concisely her/his research interest in the classical ICT field and trying to find possible correlations with respective abruptly developing branches of the QIT. The chapter texts are somehow moderated by the tutor but are exclusively authored by young researchers. The aim was to present their views on the possible development directions of particular subfields of QIT, if not fully mature, but still based on their own ideas, research and dreams.

Opis:
Grass silage is the basic component of diets for winter or year-round feeding of beef cattle in Central and Northern Europe, but its quality can vary considerably. The aim of this study was to determine whether the quality of silage influences the fattening performance of crossbred steers and whether higher intake of supplementary concentrate improves performance in steers fed silage of lower quality. The experiment was conducted on 52 crossbred steers with the initial body weight of 300 kg, produced by crossing Polish Holstein-Friesian dairy cows with Charolais, Limousin and Hereford bulls. The animals had ad libitum access to one of two types of grass silages (of higher and lower quality), and silage intake was recorded individually. Supplementary concentrate consisted of crimped triticale grain (785 g kg-1), rapeseed meal (190 g kg-1) and a mineral-vitamin premix for beef cattle (25 g kg-1). Concentrate was administered at two levels of 1.9 and 2.4 kg dry matter per day. The animals were housed in a free-stall system and feed intake was recorded individually. The fattening period lasted 65 days. Live weight gains were higher (P < 0.0001) in the group of steers fed high feed value grass silage than in the group administered low feed value grass silage. Steers fed silage supplemented with a higher level of concentrate were characterized by higher live weight gains (P < 0.0001) than those receiving silage with a lower level of concentrate. Average daily gains were similar in steers fed lower-quality silage with a higher level of concentrate and in those offered higher-quality silage with a lower level of concentrate (0.972 and 0.975 kg, respectively). It can be concluded that a comparable level of fattening performance can be achieved in steers fed low feed value silage supplemented with a higher amount of concentrate and in animals receiving high feed value silage supplemented with a lower amount of concentrate.

The objective of this study was to determine the degree of chemical contamination of light soil used as a disposal site for storing motor vehicles unfit for operation. Dismantled motor vehicles and parts of motor vehicles were stored in sector A, while worn-out, inoperable motor vehicles were stored in sector B. Heavy metal content was 5.3-fold higher in soil from sector A than in soil from sector B. The greatest differences were observed between the two sectors with respect to the content of copper, lead, chromium and zinc, while the slightest - with regard to the content of nickel, cadmium and mercury. Taking into account the total content of heavy metals, the investigated soils may be considered chemically degraded.
Badania miały na celu określenie skażeń chemicznych gleby lekkiej, na której składowano pojazdy silnikowe wycofane z eksploatacji. W sektorze A składowano zdemontowane pojazdy i ich części, a w sektorze B gromadzono pojazdy wycofane eksploatacji. W glebie sektora A sumaryczna zawartość metali ciężkich była 5,3 razy większa niż w glebie sektora B. Szczególnie duże różnice stwierdzono w zawartości miedzi, ołowiu, chromu i cynku, a najmniejsze niklu, kadmu i rtęci. Ogólna zawartość metali ciężkich sprawia, że gleby te należy zaliczyć do zdegradowanych chemicznie.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine changes in nitrogen fractions during the ensiling of lucerne and red clover herbage in bales. Protein nitrogen and non-protein nitrogen compounds in herbage and silage were distinguished. Furthermore, buffer soluble nitrogen compounds (BSN) were determined and divided into buffer soluble protein and non-protein nitrogen (BSPN and NPBSN, respectively). In addition, peptide nitrogen and amino acid nitrogen were distinguished within the NPBSN fraction, while nitrogen compounds were divided into those of low solubility (NDIN) and completely insoluble (ADIN). The research findings confirmed the effect of a legume plant species on changes in the content of nitrogen fractions during the ensiling in round bales. The ensiling of lucerne herbage grossly decreased the protein nitrogen fraction while raising the total soluble fraction of nitrogen. Nitrogen in the form of soluble proteins, NDIN and ADIN was the least affected. The study demonstrated a different response of the two legume plant species to ensiling with respect to all fractions. A high proportion of protein nitrogen in round bale wilted red clover silage was accompanied by a large contribution of insoluble nitrogen fractions. A large share of the protein nitrogen fraction in red clover silage does not necessarily mean a higher nutritional value of the protein because it may contain a large amount of protein compounds that are non-hydrolysable by bacterial and intestinal enzymes.

Opis:
Changes in the amino acid profile of protein during ensiling depend on the proteolytic potential of plant species, the rate of the wilting and acidifying of ensiled herbage and, on the other hand, on the microbiological processes and fermentation of amino acids. The interaction of these factors determines the subsequent efficiency of nitrogen utilization in the rumen. The aim of this study has been to determine the influence of ensiling in round bales on changes in the amino acid content in lucerne and red clover silages. The amino acid composition was determined by analyzing the content of amino acids in herbages and silages. The lucerne silage protein was characterized by a higher contribution of all amino acids except Trp in comparison with red clover silage. Ensiling in bales of wilted lucerne and clover herbage lowered the content of Asp, His (P < 0.01), Ile, Lys (P < 0.05) in both plants. The ensiling process and plant species affected (P < 0.05) the total content of amino acids per 100 g of protein, where the range of changes in both raw materials was different. The loss of amino acids observed during the ensiling of wilted lucerne in round bales should be regarded as typical, whereas changes in the amino acid profile of red clover should be considered as atypical. A significantly higher ADIN content in red clover than in lucerne silage indicates that a rapid and significant increase of temperature occurred in experimental bales, which were characterized by a low degree of density, and this temperature rise strongly affected the availability of amino acids of the red clover protein also to the current microflora in the silage. Ensiling in round bales changed the amino acid profile of the lucerne and red clover protein. The ensiling process in this technology, however, severely deteriorated the quality of the red clover protein by lowering the content of all essential amino acids except Cys and Met.

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of an organic form of mineral supplement containing copper, zinc and manganese on the concentration of these elements in the coat (hair) of Polish Konik horses. Possible impact of the rearing conditions of 24 Polish Konik foals (which originated from stables and nature reserves), their sex and duration of the supplementation on the coat’s mineral composition was considered. The research included 24 horses: 12 stabled (six fillies and six colts) and 12 captured in a nature reserve (seven fillies and five colts). Ten samples of fodder and 60 samples of coats were analysed. The influence of the rearing system on the concentration of elements in the coat was observed, for example stabled horses had a higher content of copper in the coat while the content of zinc and especially manganese was lower. All horses, both reared in a stable and from the nature reserve, showed higher copper concentrations in their coat (P ≤ 0.05) after supplementation with copper, while an increased amount of zinc was observed only in animals reared in a stable. All horses (both stabled and wild ones) demonstrated an evident change in the manganese content of their coat after supplementation with a chelate. The content grew significantly (P ≤ 0.01) with the supplementation time. An interaction between the sex and chelate supplementation time was observed only in the case of manganese administered to animals reared in a stable.

In this study a two-step short wet etching was implemented for the black silicon formation. The proposed structure consists of two steps. The first step: wet acidic etched pits-like morphology with a quite new solution of lowering the texturization temperature and second step: wires structure obtained by a metal assisted etching (MAE). The temperature of the process was chosen due to surface development control and surface defects limitation during texturing process. This allowed to maintain better minority carrier lifetime compared to etching in ambient temperature. On the top of the acidic texture the wires were formed with optimized height of 350 nm. The effective reflectance of presented black silicon structure in the wavelength range of 300-1100 nm was equal to 3.65%.
