Minirhizotron, a non-destructive technique is based on the application of transparent tubes, located in plant’s root zone. This method has been known since the beginning of 20th century and is used for plant root’s observations, especially in forest trees (Scots pine, Norway spruce, silver fir, birch), steppe grasses, vegetables and cereals. Minirhizotron technique is also applicable to pomological plants observations, mostly apples, but many others orchard species were observed with this method last years. The study of root growth dynamics in fruit plants using the non-destructive, minirhizotron method is conducted in the Pomological Orchard in Skierniewice. The objects of the observations are the roots of: apple trees cultivar. ‘Gold Milenium’, blackcurrant bushes cultivar ‘Tiben’ and sweet cherry cultivar ‘Vanda’. The observations were carried out monthly over a period of from March to November.

Opis:
Barley is a cereal of great importance in the crop structure both in Europe and globally. The nutritional value of barley grain is largely shaped by agronomic factors, in particular by fertilisation, which can have a significant impact on the content of individual elements and their quantitative interrelations in grain. The aim of the research was to evaluate yielding, the content of protein and the accumulation of mineral nutrients by the grain of spring barley grown exposed to varied NPK and S fertilisation. The study was based on a three-factor field experiment in a randomised split-plot design with 3 replications. The 1st order factor (A) was fertilisation with nitrogen (n = 3): N1 – 40 kg ha-1, N2 – 80 kg ha-1, N3 – 120 kg ha-1. The 2nd order factor (B) was fertilisation with phosphorus and potassium (n = 2): P1 K1 – 30 kg P ha-1, 80 kg K ha-1; P2K2 – 45 kg P ha-1, 120 kg K ha-1. The 3rd order factor (C) was fertilisation with sulphur (n = 2): S0 – 0 kg ha-1 and S1 – 23 kg ha-1. The study showed that the application of 80 and 120 kg N ha-1 resulted in obtaining a significantly higher grain yield of spring barley and, usually, a higher grain protein content than did the application of 40 kg N ha-1. The increase in yield effected by sulphur fertilisation was significant in relation to the objects without sulphur fertilisation. The highest accumulation of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium was found following fertilisation with a dose of 80 kg N ha-1, as compared with the accumulation with grain from the experimental variant with the application of 40 kg N ha-1. As a result of sulphur application, considerably more nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was obtained in the grain yield. Sulphur applied in combination with a dose of 120 kg N ha-1 usually caused a significant decrease in the accumulation of the tested macroelements.

Opis:
Fertilisation is the main factor stimulating yields of herbaceous plants, including yields of active substances per area unit. The aim of the research was to evaluate the yielding and chemical composition of fruits of cv. Koñczewicki caraway grown in a pure stand and supplied different rates of mineral fertilizer. The results are derived from a controlled, one-factor, micro-plot experi- ment set up with four replications in a split-plot design. The experimental factor consisted of NPK mineral fertilisation introduced into soil at the following rates per hectare: A 0 – without mineral fertilisation, A 1 – 103.9 kg NPK (37.5 kg N+17.6 kg P+4 8.8 kg K), A 2 – 209.8 kg NPK (75 kg N+35.2 kg P+ 99.6 kg K), A 3 – 314.7 kg NPK (112.5 kg N+52.8 kg P+ 149.4 kg K). Mineral fertilisation in the control increased the caraway fruit yield, the yield of essential oil as well as the content of total nitrogen. The rates of 209.8 kg NPK ha –1 and 314.7 kg NPK ha –1 caused a distinct decrease in the content of essential oil in cara- way fruits compared with the unfertilized treatment and with the fertilisation rate of 103.9 kg NPK ha –1 . Mineral fertilisation, in general, significantly decreased the content of total phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and sodium, although it did not differentiate sub- stantially the content of potassium in caraway fruits.

Opis:
Garden thyme is a very important essential herbal plant grown in Poland. As well as being able to regulate digestion processes, thyme herbage possesses disinfecting, expectorant, antioxidant, spasmolytic properties. Research has been launched to define the effect of NPK fertilisation on yielding, the content of essential oil as well as the mineral composition of garden thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) herbage. The experimental factor consisted of NPK mineral fertilisation applied into soil at the following doses per hectare and proportions: A0 – without mineral fertilisation, A1 – 30 kg N + 22 kg P + 100 kg K (N:P:K was: 1:0.75:3.33), A2 – 60 kg N (30 kg N + 30 kg N) + 22 kg P + 100 kg K (1:0.37:1.67), A3 – 90 kg N (45 kg N + 45 kg N) + 22 kg P + 100 kg K (1:0.24:1.11). The experiment comprised 4 fertilisation objects with 4 replications, and the sowing area and the harvest area of 3 m2 plot-1. Nitrogen was applied in the form of ammonium nitrate twice: pre-sowing as well as after plant emergence. Phosphorus and potassium were used pre-sowing, in the form of triple superphosphate 40% and 60% of potassium salt, respectively. The doses of 152 kg NPK ha-1 (1:0.75:3.33) – A1 and 182 kg NPK ha-1 (1:0.37:1.67) - A2 showed the most favourable effect on the yield of fresh weight, air-dried weight and essential oil of herbage as well as the quality characteristics of the yields. The dose of 152 kg NPK ha-1 (A1), including 30 kg less nitrogen, was as favourable as that of 182 kg NPK ha-1 in terms of the content of air-dry weight of herbage, essential oil as well as mineral nutrients. Its application also resulted in a similar yield of essential oil. The application of 212 kg NPK ha-1 (1:0.24:1.11) was economically unjustified since, in general, it decreased the size of the yield of fresh weight of herbage and the values of its parameters studied.

Opis:
Over years 2005-2007 research was carried out to determine the effect of sulphur fertilisation on the content of total nitrogen and its minerał forms in Luvisol. Sulphur was applied in an ionic form as sodium sulphate(VI) and in an eleraental form as Siarkol Extra at the dose: O, 20, 40, 60 kg per hectare. Following the application of sulphur at the dose of 60 S kg o ha-1. A significant increase was recorded in the mean content of total nitrogetl in soil, as compared with the control. There was shown no clear effect of neither the sulphur form applied nor its dose on the mean content of ammonium nitrogen in soil, while those factors significantly differentiated the content of nitrate nitrogen(V) in soil.
