Opis:
The paper records some of the results and observations from a pilot scale plane-flow silo with a variable geometry hopper and a fully width slot outlet. The original objectives were simply to study the shape of arches and their failure mechanisms under a range of conditions. However, the behaviour of arches did not conform to the conventional assumptions and neither did other silo behaviour. The paper contains a summary of the main findings of this work, but concentrates on the arches formed under mass-flow and non-mass-flow geometries for the filling condition.

Opis:
This study provides the results of experimental tests of the effect of floats on the aerodynamic characteristics of the “OSA” plane in an asymmetric flow. The tests were carried out in a low-speed wind tunnel owned by Institute of Aviation Technology, Faculty of Mechatronics, Armament and Aerospace (FMAA), Military University of Technology (MUT, Warsaw, Poland). The model of “OSA” was tested at dynamic pressure q = 500 Pa within the range of slip angles β = -28°÷28°. The tests were carried out for the plane model in the so-called “plain” configuration, i.e. at non-deflected control surfaces and wing mechanisation elements. The model was tested in two variants – with floats and without floats. The effect of deflection of the flaps, ailerons and rudder on the aerodynamic characteristics of the test model was also examined. The obtained values of drag coefficient, lateral force coefficient and yawing moment coefficient are presented in the form of tables and graphs. The tests showed that the floats had a significant impact on the curves of the characteristics. They result in a considerable increase of the value of the drag coefficient and in a deterioration of weathercock stability.

Opis:
This paper shows results of numerical solutions a modified Reynolds equation for laminar unsteady oil flow in slide journal plane bearing gap. It shows a preliminary analysis of pressure distribution change in the bearing by laminar, unsteady lubrication caused by velocity perturbations of oil flow in the longitudinal direction of a bearing. Described effect can be used as an example of modelling the bearing friction node operations in reciprocating movement during exploitation of engines and machines. Plane crossbar journal bearing occur in ship combustion engine as a crosshead bearing. During modelling crossbar bearing operations in combustion engines, bearing movement perturbations from engine vertical vibrations causes velocity flow perturbations of lubricating oil on the bearing race and on the bearing slider in the longitudinal direction. Engine forced vertical vibrations frequency and crankshaft forced torsional vibrations is determined by shaft rotational speed, engine cylinder number and by engine type. This solution example applies to isothermal bearing model with infinity length. Lubricating oil used in this model has Newtonian properties and dynamic viscosity in dependence on pressure. Results are presented in the dimensionless hydrodynamicpressure diagrams.

Opis:
This paper shows results of numerical solutions an modified Reynolds equations for laminar unsteady oil flow in slide journal bearing with planar linear gap. Discussed case of the solution to the Reynolds equation for the unsteady laminar Newtonian flow of lubricating factor allows initial estimation of hydrodynamic pressure distribution and its capacity as a basic operational parameter of the slide bearing. Unsteady axial velocity perturbation on the race surface and slide has influence on the hydrodynamic pressure distribution of the capacity of the lubricated gap. Pressure changes in the bearing are seasonal and equal to the lasting period of velocity perturbation. The level of changes and its nature depends on the kind of perturbation. This solution example applies to isothermal bearing model with infinity length. Lubricating oil used in this model has Newtonian properties and dynamic viscosity in dependence on pressure. Opis:
The paper concerns the characteristic parameters of the selected isotropic failure criteria, i.e. Mohr–Coulomb, Drucker–Prager, Matsuoka–Nakai and Lade–Duncan. The parameters are determined directly from the failure criteria and stress measurements or by semi-theoretical approach, assuming that the soil obeys the associated flow rule and using the plane strain condition. In the latter case, the parameters can be expressed as functions of the plane strain internal friction angle, which is determined from measurements. The principal stress tensor components, corresponding to the soil peak strength and necessary to obtain the failure criteria parameters, are measured in a series of true triaxial, plane strain tests, on coarse Skarpa sand samples of different initial relative density, subjected to various confining pressures.

Opis:
An analysis was carried out for an unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of a generalized third grade fluid between two parallel plates. The fluid flow is a result of the plate oscillating, moving and pressure gradient. Three flow problems were investigated, namely: Couette, Poiseuille and Couette-Poiseuille flows and a number of nonlinear partial differential equations were obtained which were solved using the He-Laplace method. Expressions for the velocity field, temperature and concentration fields were given for each case and finally, effects of physical parameters on the fluid motion, temperature and concentration were plotted and discussed. It is found that an increase in the thermal radiation parameter increases the temperature of the fluid and hence reduces the viscosity of the fluid while the concentration of the fluid reduces as the chemical reaction parameter increases.

Recent field measurements of mobile-bed roughness in selected streams in Czech Republic are described. The results are collected in a database organized to a www catalogue. The field results of the bed roughness in two gravel-bed streams under flash flood conditions are discussed. A methodology is suggested for evaluation of the bed roughness of straight channels transporting sediments. A prediction of the bed roughness under the condition of intense sediment transport in the upper plane bed regime is demonstrated on the results of laboratory pressurized-pipe tests. An application to flood conditions in a steep mountain creek is shown in a case study.
